- 3rnesto, on 10/21/2007, -2/+42Did anybody think they wouldn't have good numbers in Sep?
- saltinekracka20, on 10/23/2007, -15/+52I have a few Sony fanboys who follow me around on Digg. This is for you guys:
Told you so. - orca94, on 10/21/2007, -4/+27So the 360 sold the equivalent of 30% of the PS3's existing North American base in North America in one month? I knew they'd sell well, but damn.
- asdfuiop, on 10/22/2007, -8/+30The fanboy force is strong with this post
- staticblake, on 10/21/2007, -4/+21Am I the only person who owns a Wii and never plays the damn thing? My 360 is played every day but my Wii hasn't been turned on for months.
- BedPost, on 10/22/2007, -5/+20For everyone that's either thinking or posting "360 wins war! PS3 sucks!" I say: to each his own. If you like the PS3, or Wii, or 360, feel free to spend your money on it, and get the games you like for it. I know I wish I had MGS4 for the 360. Keep in mind, that you should never want one console to win the "war"; competition keeps the market fresh (which is why EA is the bane of software development).
Stop being such fanboys and realize you're no more than consumers. Enjoy your damn product - and don't get upset when *gasp* a sweet game comes out on a console you don't own! Like I said, to each his own. - JEAH, on 10/21/2007, -4/+17All the math in the world doesn't change the fact that PS3 is in serious trouble.
- username9000, on 10/21/2007, -3/+16This is how it will look through the holiday season. 360 and Wii will fight it out for the top spot while the PS3 flounders. The first month that the PS3 wins will be when MGS comes out next year.
- saltinekracka20, on 10/21/2007, -10/+22"This great news for MS who's main goal this generation is staying on top of Sony."
Which they're having no problem doing. - jrbrewin, on 10/21/2007, -2/+13in fairness, xbox360 has always had a far higher attach rate than any other console. even on slow months, game sales out strip every other console.
- 1jaxstate1, on 10/21/2007, -9/+18Mass Effect.
- mythicflux, on 10/21/2007, -2/+11No it's not. Let me find a graph and prove it!
- Kazanoe, on 10/21/2007, -4/+13Mass Effect is going to be amazing, don't get me wrong. But the game simply doesn't have the cult-following that Halo 3 does.
- logicalnoise, on 10/21/2007, -2/+11Name a Multi Platform game that's sold better on the WII. OOPS
- minuteZERO, on 10/21/2007, -20/+28wow, ms is cleaning up this round.
- inactive, on 10/21/2007, -6/+14How the hell can the Wii still selling so much. Even with Halo, Xbox360 can only outsell it by a little bit. As for the PS3, looks like it is the begin of the end.
- serpanterra, on 10/21/2007, -3/+11At the time this goes to press you're only dugg down by 6, which I consider to be impressive
- inactive, on 10/20/2007, -1/+9@KingGoonie
Nintendo has said it's self that it is targeting a wider audience. Older people and the younger crowd... - logicalnoise, on 10/21/2007, -13/+20Wii fans won't always mention it but MS and Sony both admit that they don't directly compete with Wii. Few games games are being made for all three systems. This great news for MS who's main goal this generation is staying on top of Sony.
- reed311, on 10/21/2007, -2/+9This is the reason why Sony is desperately implementing their price cut.
- staticneuron, on 10/22/2007, -3/+10Wait wait..... so let me get this straight. The sales of this month automatically means the "end" of the PS3? Honestly, who thought the release month of halo 3 would be bad? I know MANY people who refused to get a 360 until halo 3 came out. Halo 3 was one out of the 3 games I bought the 360 for. Using this month to try to prove the outcome of this console war is short sighted and lame.
- jrbrewin, on 10/20/2007, -1/+7when most people are playing the game that came bundled with it.
sadly, the wii does need more excellent games, myself and every friend / relative that owns one very rarely boot it up any more. hopefully mario galaxy will change that. - inactive, on 10/21/2007, -1/+7I just noticed that. I haven't played my Wii in months.
- jrbrewin, on 10/21/2007, -0/+6alas, nintendo themselves have said they're going in a different direction, and going for the new-gamer.
- mastertop, on 10/20/2007, -3/+9Yeah, but I'm still impressed by Wii's performance, Wii's got almost as much consoles sold as XBOX 360 but without a killer app like Halo 3... That's great and depressing... Feels like Wii doesn't -need- good games...
- username9000, on 10/21/2007, -3/+8I don't consider the Wii to be in competition with the 360 and PS3. The Wii caters to a whole other market...namely kids and old people.
- jrbrewin, on 10/21/2007, -2/+7apart from practically every good cross platform game is delayed on ps3... or delayed across the board because of ps3.
and for some odd reason, you seem to think that devs will stop making games for xbox after xmas, and suddenly swap to ps3, despite the shocking console sales in most of the world, and appauling attach rate.
ps3 had its chance when the red ring of death shocker was mainstream news.. but even there they let microsoft come out with good press, and all but resolve the issue. - 0two, on 10/21/2007, -1/+6The only important number when it comes to video game sales is 3rd party software sales. Publishers don't give a damn how many systems you're selling if the only games that sell well for your system are Wii games and Nintendo franchise games. The 360 consistently blows away the Wii and PS3 when it comes to 3rd party software sales, and that's really all that matters. Even without Halo 3 sales the 360 still would have dominated the other systems in software sales. True gamers know that in the end it all comes down to the games, and unless something changes (not looking likely) the 360 will continue to dominate. The Wii is likely to continue to beat the 360 in hardware sales, but unless publishers think their games are going to sell better on the Wii the 360 will still be the best system.
- piper999, on 10/21/2007, -0/+4The PS3 may not go the way of the Dreamcast but it is certainly NOT doing fine unless you mean 'fine' in an unorthodox sense like for instance 'selling much less than anyone expected'.
- dissident, on 10/21/2007, -0/+4it's the games, stupid.
- KompressorV12, on 10/21/2007, -0/+4metacritic might disagree with you
- Malhavoc, on 10/22/2007, -1/+5This is just regarding North American sales, right? Anyone know where to find the worldwide sales for September?
- saltinekracka20, on 10/21/2007, -0/+4Ok, so he'll be saying that again in...2012?
- Phyltre, on 10/21/2007, -1/+4The only problem is, I can only justify buying one $300+ gaming console (in addition to a middling gaming PC.) So of course I'll be disappointed when I can't play a game I truly enjoy due to the platform it gets released on. Your argument only really makes sense if you ignore the money involved in buying that other console/controllers, which can easily top $400. $400 is plenty to get disappointed about, in my book.
- Inverno, on 10/21/2007, -2/+5Sure they're competing, the same way a home made steak dinner competes with Outback. They're different classes, but they both feed you.
- LawSchoolBound, on 10/21/2007, -1/+4I love Halo, its truly awesome, but the real reason for me to get an xbox 360 is going to be Ninja Gaiden 2. That game rocked so hard on xbox, it was actually hard to beat and had great graphics and more importantly great game play. It may not be a console mover but that is the reason I am going to get a 360.
- Gremlinclr, on 10/21/2007, -3/+6So what? Is it eating all your food and hitting on your girlfriend? It'll be there when good games like Smash Brothers, Mario and the new Resident Evil come out. I've never seen the need to "justify" buying a console by having to play it every single day.
It's there when I need it. - Thorlord, on 10/21/2007, -1/+4oook, so if the PS3 was launched at the same time as the 360 it would have done better? im not sure what you are intending to do with your math, the PS3 is competiting with the 360 NOW not the 360 from last year. as in, it needs to play catchup, not "hey we did better than you did last year!"
- Thorlord, on 10/21/2007, -0/+3the 360 is on top there too.
- inactive, on 10/21/2007, -2/+5your mom outsold the wii.
- unfuccwittable, on 10/21/2007, -1/+4thats true but microsoft has an amazing track record in regards to addressing those design flaws. and now, with the 65nm processors shipping, those problems have been addressed so it shouldn't worry you or anybody else interested in getting a 360.
- Thorlord, on 10/21/2007, -0/+3so apparently halo 3 will only be bought in the month of september..... im sorry, but is it at all possible that the 3 months of game-releases and the fact that it is the best shopping part of the year have any factor in giving the console a prolonged increase in sales?
- Thorlord, on 10/21/2007, -3/+5.. and adults, and women, and men, and teenagers, and everyone.
- dunlop, on 10/21/2007, -1/+3"so for it not to sell at least 600K units when the best selling game of all time drops makes me wonder if the red rings issue is still hurting them"
lol..if they would have sold 600k, my money is your quote would have been 700k....
"Team Microsoft"
Um, in case you didn't notice each month MS/Soney/Nintendo "gloat" about whatever the figures are. - the_atomic_ned, on 10/21/2007, -1/+3I invested in a Wii and a a 360. I'm happy to see that both are making money and will be well supported with games through their lifespans.
- dunlop, on 10/21/2007, -1/+3%1000 agree. I own a Wii and a 360 and I will probably never buy a non nintendo game on the system
- GUTTS, on 10/21/2007, -3/+5mastertop-" Feels like Wii doesn't -need- good games..." What you feel is more like fact. So far the games on the Wii suck balls. Looking forward to Smash and....uhh....thats it, I guess.
- darthsnoopy, on 10/21/2007, -2/+4So, going by your logic, if I were a gamedev my first picks would be 360 + pc, which is what you're seeing alot of. over 110 million pC gamers out there. The game dev cycle has to take into account porting costs.
Unless I'm trying to come out with something that can make an innovative use of the wii controller, or trying to target families, then I'd target the wii.
The question becomes..what does the PS3 offer that would make me target it? - Ignignokt01, on 10/21/2007, -2/+4Maybe because they don't like Metroid Prime games? The difference between the Wii's library and the 360's library is that the 360 has consistently at least a few solid rockin' games coming out every month, whereas the Wii just had one.. for like the entire summer and early part of fall: Metroid. So if you happen to not really like Metroid games, like me, then you don't like anything coming out for the Wii until SSBB or Galaxy
- orca94, on 10/21/2007, -1/+3Same.
