- DragonQuester, on 12/07/2007, -13/+125NOOOOOOOOO SEGA!
Imagine the fanbase you would have this time around! - SellotapeGuy, on 12/07/2007, -3/+76They're making a Dreamcast 3.
- colincornaby, on 12/07/2007, -10/+74Imagine the fanbase? From where? Sega hasn't been putting out all that great of games.
- DukeMojo, on 12/07/2007, -13/+58People already have a Wii.
- emomakesmecry, on 12/07/2007, -4/+48I think Vader said it best.
NOOOOOOOO!!! - chucali, on 12/07/2007, -2/+40If you guys love Dreamcast so much there's this thing called a Dreamcast you could buy.
- rikwakefield, on 12/07/2007, -1/+32thanks for ruining christmas
- Cerebral, on 12/07/2007, -0/+28I got a question... Which will come out first, a new SEGA console or Duke Nukem Forever?
- objectcode, on 12/07/2007, -1/+26you only say that because you read they are not making one
- FyreDragon17, on 12/07/2007, -6/+29This needs to be Dugg up to the front page instead of the article that Sega IS doing another Dreamcast!
- Aharoni, on 12/07/2007, -1/+22Is anyone surprised by this? re-registering your trademark doesn't mean you plan to use it. The Dreamcast is a great brand that can be used for many other purposes ("Dreamcast classics on the Xbox 360"). Why would Sega ditch it? the fact that it isn't used today doesn't mean its not worthwhile. Just look at all the comments above!
While the window of opportunity to enter the market with a new console is still open (as the market currently in a state of growth) - Sega isn't as big as Microsoft, Sony nor Nintendo - which means that the only business sense to get back to the console market is to create a niche console (niche is defined as a target audience which is NOT addressed by the big players. If its addressed by a big player - it is NOT a niche). Casual gamers and hardcore gamers all over the world are already catered by the big companies' consoles, so it should be a pretty small niche = not profitable to create a whole new console for.
In other words, while the market is still growing the competition in it is fierce and dominated by really big players. Hence, Sega should not develop a new console for it. - sagat, on 12/07/2007, -0/+18um...

Jet Grind Radio - manitoba98xp, on 12/07/2007, -0/+17Yeah, but it's not sequential. Everybody knows that the next PlayStation will probably be the PlayStation 4, but Microsoft still keeps us guessing. The Xbox 720? The Xbox 2π? The Xbox 2i+3?
Just kidding... :) - MDKAOD, on 12/07/2007, -6/+23I think he means the fanbase of 28 people. I miss Dreamcast and it's ability to boot backups with no issues. I might have to pull mine out tonight...wonder if my VMU still works...okay 29 people.
- rikwakefield, on 12/07/2007, -0/+16The reason 360 was chosen as the name is because XBox 2 may psychologically be worse than PlayStation 3 for some consumers. 2 vs 3.
- MagicalTrevor2, on 12/07/2007, -1/+16Quitters. :(
- cambob76, on 12/07/2007, -1/+15It would have to be Dreamcast 4*** to compete with the PS4 and the XBOX420.
- patthew, on 12/07/2007, -2/+14If you honestly believed the original article about there being a DC2, you probably deserve this let down.
- Ricky8765, on 12/07/2007, -4/+14I'm pretty sure console business encompasses... well, any console
- john2kx, on 12/07/2007, -0/+9lol, the xbox 420. First time i've heard that.
- Dgen_X, on 12/07/2007, -1/+10I'd rather live in a world made of hope and lies ok?
- jct821, on 12/07/2007, -1/+10I miss my Dreamcast 1. I can't believe I sold it. I should have sold my then girlfriend instead. Because I would still be with my Dreamcast today, playing RE: Code Veronica, Typing of the Dead and Crazy Taxi.
And I miss the beep sound the controller made when I booted that console up. - DukeMojo, on 12/07/2007, -2/+11More like 'Duh'.
- jstone, on 12/07/2007, -2/+11"The unoriginal naming scheme of adding a number to the system is reserved for Sony."
Xbox 360 anyone? - greenriver572, on 12/07/2007, -0/+8they should just re-release the dreamcast, but make it better, more durable, and sell it for as cheap as they did when they phased it out.
- Scyth3, on 12/07/2007, -1/+9That made very little to no sense at all....
- fataluber, on 12/07/2007, -2/+10ITS A TRAP!
- Walkboss, on 12/07/2007, -1/+8Made sense to me. Elranzer didn't read (or at least ignored) the description where it states "that they have 'no plans to get back into the console business.'"
- shadyk8o, on 12/07/2007, -0/+7Only true game lovers know how great the dreamcast is. Since there are not alot of us out there dreamcast failed.
- radink360, on 12/07/2007, -3/+9/sad.
- insllvn, on 12/07/2007, -2/+8I think this is a big mistake on SEGA's part. The "hardcore" console market is ripe for infiltration. I think a SEGA entry would be uniquely positioned to capture the segment of the market that doesn't want a Microsoft platform masquerading as a console, or an under priced blu-ray player. If SEGA could design an architecure that invited working ports from the 360, and took advantage of online content effectively, coupled with a harddrive and a built in HDDVD player, they could recapture some of their former glory. Nintendo has already proven that content, gameplay, and price point trumps the shiniest new graphics and unconventional architectures with little exploited performance gains. If they focused on quality of games rather than being the new media hub, I think they could produce an excellent product. I have never owned a SEGA console, back in the days when they were competitive I was a loyal Nintendo fanboy (PS2 was my first non Nintendo platform, and by the time I got it Dreamcast was sunk), but I would definitely pick up a Dreamcast 2. I want a hi-def console, with a traditional controller, but I am not eager for any of the current offerings. Am I alone?
- apec766, on 12/07/2007, -0/+6It flew under the radars that had becomed wowed by the PS2. People to this day don't realize what Sega's Dreamcast has done for current and nex gen gaming.
- MarkOfTheDead, on 12/07/2007, -0/+6It'll work, it just might need a new battery to play mini games on it.
- crimsonnblue, on 12/07/2007, -1/+7oh hai... Im on all of ur consolezzz creatin softwarezzzz
- inactive, on 12/07/2007, -0/+6wtf are you talking about? Get some Ritalin.
- pyrotix, on 12/07/2007, -1/+7Sonic. The. Hedgehog. They could just release every single Sonic game ever made and it would instantly sell a million units.
- lewhich, on 12/07/2007, -0/+5Ubuntu XBox
- Ricky8765, on 12/07/2007, -3/+8"Sega's new console will have a new name."
-Elranzer
"Sega has no plans to get back into the console business"
-Sega
I'm pretty sure that statement encompasses the design, production and manufacturing of any and all consoles, hence it means there will not be a new one with a different name.
There, is that better, douche bags? - apec766, on 12/07/2007, -0/+5I can haz gamez?
- rdoger6424, on 12/07/2007, -2/+7ya got de tree green rings mon
- SamWest3, on 12/07/2007, -0/+5Wait, you mean something that was written on the Internet is somehow...inaccurate? My whole world has just been turned upside down!
- Waskonator, on 12/07/2007, -8/+13I knew it. Damn you digg, your media hype is as bad as a cheerleader lockeroom sometimes.
You know, i even prayed for this.
I asked GOD to make a video game console. All because I was filled with false hope, from all of you. - freff, on 12/07/2007, -0/+5Are people seriously still waiting for this game? I figure once a game has been in development for a decade or more, it's time to put it out of its misery.
- plizard, on 12/07/2007, -10/+14i could have told you this back in 2002
- rarson, on 12/07/2007, -1/+5What the hell are you talking about? MAKING a console is entirely different than programming for one. They'd have to do just as much R&D as they did on every other console they ever made. Programming for all three consoles isn't going to give them a shining bit of wisdom on how to create the ultimate console or something.
- adoggz, on 12/07/2007, -0/+4Thank you for ruining my hopes and dreams.
- SEGA4life, on 12/07/2007, -0/+3No, it started a couple days ago with "WooHoo" then after reading this it went into "DO'H"
- Romanito, on 12/08/2007, -1/+4DO NOT WANT
- nomore, on 12/07/2007, -0/+3I think Sega should get back into the console market. Let Nintendo and Sega sort out MS and Sony.
- inactive, on 12/07/2007, -0/+3well *****.
