- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Seriously, I think this is going to turn out to be awesome.
They were totally right, I never, ever would have expected this, especially from Rockstar.
I love it. That's so punk rock.
Rockstar could sit on its laurels, just keep turning out increasingly violent and "controversial" games, but that's so easy. Now they've stirred up a whole new kind of controversy.
It's like Johnny Rotten dancing ballet. Totally ***** with you.
Besides, I doubt Rockstar would be turning out something lame - I haven't seen the game, obviously, but I expect it to be pretty freaking fun if they went to the trouble of developing it.
I'm ready to like it. I hope it lives up to the Rockstar name. - flakmunkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11sooo, wait
can i still beat up hookers? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You know what?
You guys are all wrong.
You're endemic of what's wrong with gaming today; no guns or explosions or blood = a bad game. Call me crazy but I'll choose pong or tetris over some flashy game without substance any day. - MPSinclair, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I wonder how you get to the secret mini game where you get it on on the game table? *lol*
- danterner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"can i still beat up hookers?"
you can paddle them... - mcaaronice, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7if this isn't a bad joke, then somebody should be fired.
- pmullen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow. I can't believe Rockstar went from GTA to Ping Pong. I will probably never play this game

Ya know what, I agree with you completely! But only on one condition.... the game has to be FUN! These are the same people who say Nintendo games are for kids... WHO CARES if the game is fun to play!
Though, one must wonder if there will be a Hot Coffee mod for this game! LOL - ricodued, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It will be interesting to see Jack Thompson react to THIS.
"In other news, leading anti-video-game advocate Jack Thompson died of an aneurysm today after recieving word that arch rival Rockstar was making a table tennis game, rather than the next generation murder simulator." - lovelylad80, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wouldn't it be more fun (and cheaper) to go play Table Tennis IN REAL LIFE?
Coming Soon: Shuffleboard EXtreme. - pierre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21) Table tennis rocks. 2) It doesn't always have to be guns and explosions...
- mcaaronice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2but what if the paddles were VERY sharp, so there it made the game DANGEROUS!
ok there's no saving this game. - Retuobak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How is it incomprehensible for some people that something that does not contain an excruciating amount of blood and violance can be fun? If Rockstar does this right this might well be one of the more enjoyable games available on the next-gen consoles. I for one can't wait to see if Rockstar managed to make this game truly fun, if they did, this might well be an underground hit.
Guess we'll soon find out, IGN has it slated for May. - Boredom431, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2JACK: Hitting a small with a paddle aimed at the person's opponent CAN cause visceral shocks which over time brainwash you to kill people and attack hookers
NEWS REPORTER: Whats your proof of this?
JACK: I'm Jack Thompson I don't NEED proof! - SUPERZERO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm afraid that this is Rockstar's "Jersey Girls."
- Braxo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seriously, this could be an awesome game. What if they sold controllers shaped like paddles that will use the Nintendo Revolution controller technology. It could really be like playing table tennis.
I have never placed that dancing revolution game, but a table tennis game could be a good work out. - anubisgamer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2HOLY CRAP! I guessed it right
- WhiskeyTango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1felchdonkey hit the nail on the head. Releasing a title like this, when you're companies known for some of the most violent game's around, it takes testicular fortitude. And let's face it, Rockstar's not stupid. They're not going to release this game, unless it seriously plays well, is really well polished, and above all, is fun. Obviously, if they're taking the chance of actually going forward with it, and announcing it to the masses, they've gotta have something that they're really proud of. After reading through the whole article, it sounds too like they've managed to do a ton with the play mechanics of the game, and though we all know static screen shot's, a year or so in advance of a game show NOTHING of the final product...early indications are that the game really looks pretty nice. All in all, I'm curious to see what it'll bring to the table, and what Rockstar can do with something so mundane.
Here's to keeping gamers on their toes! :) - Satanstorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why not? Dumber genres like golf and chess came out, so why not ping pong?
- xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1haha, i can see 5 copies being sold, good lord
maybe you get to beat up your opponent if you lose - Trjn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"360 users just got owned!! Good luck with your tennis while we PS3 owners play the next GTA!!"
How the hell did you get your hands on a PS3 AND the next GTA? Do you perchance travel through time? If yes, I need the lottery numbers for any lotteries running in Queensland, Australia for say. . . the next 3 months.
As for the game, someone already beat me to it, but it looks like something to test out what they can do with the hardware, whilst diversifying their game range so that they don't appeal to be JUST violent whore bashers. - plkrtn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not to be picky. But Table Tennis uses a bat, not a raquet!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is gonna be big. In China.
- myxyplik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All the ones hating on this game are pubescents who think playing something like this will lower one's cool factor at the playground. I for one applaud Rockstar's audacity. If the game is fun to play, nothing else will matter. Dugg.
- DeadlyCouncil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does somebody at rockstar just crap onto a dvd and put in into a case? It seems that's the quality of every game they've made n the last 3 years...
- Grodius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They'll probably make an amazing game thats better than any other tennis style game for the console and all the serious companies will be sad.
And then in GTA4 there will be a table tennis minigame - DeathSun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And yet Jack Thompson will probably still sue.
- BryanQ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Seriously, I think this is going to turn out to be awesome.

I honestly couldn't agree more. - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And if you doubt Ping Pong can be cool, you've probably never seen this movie:
http://www.pingpong-movie.com/ - psxotaku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this has got to be a setup for an April 1st joke, or they might be doing it to make Jack Thompson go completely bat-***** crazy
- crazyfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Instead of playing virtual table tennis or pong, doesnt anyone read books or do sports?
- klane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dude, this game would so rock on the Rev!
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know. Mario Tennis and Virtual Tennis are pretty friggin' fun...
++digg for thinking outside the box. - imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1afpunk... I agree, I suck ass at table tennis, and am very mediocre at regular tennis, and I'm NOT a lazy-ass couch potato. I love skiing, surfing, baseball and mountain biking. (and nice walks on the beach.... JUST KIDDING!! HA!)
- perler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this would be perfect for the revolution controler - but for the xbox?
- SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Remember. Rockstars parent Company Take-2 purchased the top-spin engine and IP from microsoft... this falls right in line with that IP. I'm looking forward to this.
- fsjonsey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1maybe there will be a cheat code to rip the opponents head off and ***** down their neck.
- csimpkins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Next up from Rockstar...
A re-release of Penn's Bus-Crossing-the-Desert game. Upgraded to look good on 360! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This game could be awesome... on the Revolution...
- sherlock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You're a month early on the April Fool's.
- hordak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1oh my - this is hilarious! Especially since its a good swift punch in the face of those who say video games promote violence. Very good strategy, Rockstar. Very good.
- cwilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, it wasn't what I was expecting... Though, it could be a fun game at parties.
I am disappointed because I bought into the hype and expected something like the return of an old game series. My disappointment is my own fault. - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All that really matters is whether it is a fun game. There have been some awesome tennis games over the years--a table tennis game could be like tennis on speed. For all those who say why not play the real thing who says you can't do both? It's not like one has to come at the expense of the other. You can actually play golf and still enjoy a few rounds of Tiger Woods. You can love to dance at a club and still get a kick out of DDR. Time spent playing this game is much more likely to come at the expense of playing other computer games not "going to the Y".
Personally I don't care if they come out with an X-Box 360 game of tiddly winks if it's fun. People need to open their minds a bit and wait until the game is released to pass judgement. - duke_nate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2might as well be "Nada 3"
- lbermude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow, the chic from the snapshots looks hot... I wonder if she would give you some hot coffee...
- Obsydian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not bad that a table tennis game is being made it's just these two things. why the hell would you want to play table tennis in a game? Maybe a minigame, that's cool, but it shouldn't be the sole purpose for a game. Otherwise I'd just go to the Y and play table tennis!!! Second. Why the hell are you trying to change your image? Just give us the IP's you already have, we love them.
- ckpcw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WHAT?? A game that's not the traditional FPS/Racer or Mainstream sport game? GASP!
I personally am sick of all the "same-old stuff" that has been coming out for a while now.. I'm looking forward to this. That said, it could be horrible (but it could also be great)
Give it a chance, people - subzero256, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am a Huge fan of Table Tennis, I have several gigs of videos of the world championship 05. I play at least 4-5 times a week and two of those times are at a table tennis club. When I saw the article at IGN it excited me more than any other game could have. This is actually the system seller for me. I cannot wait. I am so excited. Finally someone who looks like they truly understand the SPORT of table tennis.
- cainrok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Isnt Bono trying to buy rockstar. Maybe he did........
