- dudeman88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+193Can't blame him. Guitar Hero has very little in common with playing a real guitar.
- luvs2spooge, on 10/12/2007, -4/+67Guitar Hero is to guitar as Dance Dance Revolution is to dance.
- JesusFaction, on 10/12/2007, -1/+40technically he misspelled hilarity ensues
- RedHerringHack, on 10/12/2007, -5/+35Dudeman is right. Don't fool yourself into thinking that being able to play anything in Guitar Hero even comes close to the real thing. That being said, Guitar Hero, and 2 is fun. ( This from 30 year guitar playing veteran studio musician ).
- m99stump, on 07/29/2008, -2/+29Which is funny cause the article spells it right.
- asdfer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28If you don't play guitar at all, you might have better chance at playing Guitar Hero.
Mashing the buttons != playing guitar Scott Ian's style! - lockfist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19It's a madhouse. Or so they claim.
- mittortz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20ensues
NOT
insues - molsen311, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21too bad that game teaches you absolutely nothing about playing guitar
- sinfony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Playing Guitar Hero may not make you any good at playing the guitar, but I don't think there's any question that playing the guitar can make you good at Guitar Hero. I've been playing guitar for a little more than ten years, and I plowed through both Guitar Hero games on expert with very little effort. Obviously, it takes some time to get used to the button placement (witness Mr. Ian here), but once that's done, the game becomes very simple.
- XivGNP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Dude's playing it on easy! Guaranteed, if you really, really know the song, easy's gonna ***** you up. Especially if you wrote it (heh). He should've gone straight to expert.
- logicalnoise, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12my favorite quotes:
"you should just write easier songs.....20 years ago"
"Aww this is ***** I play rhythm not lead. "
"Man I bet the guys from dragon force are ripping me right now"
In all fairness a guy who's memorized a song he wrote via his hearing would have trouble playing any song absed on visual cues. Guitar hero requires a different skill set for rhythm. The real thing is indeed harder. - phronko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Did you really think it was? Seriously?
- Br0wn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Ya its nothing like playing a real guitar and even worse when its a song you've wrote and played at so many concerts that you can play in your sleep, instinct is gonna make you reach for the next chord.
- Drtyrock, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20Sorry for misspelling "ensues"
I forget how anal you guys get here. - bendedavis, on 10/12/2007, -18/+28I agree, I play guitar and can't stand this game.
- Mexrocker, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15"Firefox 2.0 in Mac OS is not yet supported. Please use an earlier version or Safari."
***** that..... I gotta get some sleep anyway.
too lazy to press Apple+spacebar then type in Safari
but not lazy enough to type this comment out.... =/ - chumprock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Its a game with five colored keys on a fret board and a toggle switch you pick. How could it ever be accurate?!
It's fun for what it is. I ragged on it until I played it, and now I have my own copy.
Seeing him struggle with his own song is amusement to the nature of the game, not a diss on his ability. - SakisRakis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I can't imagine why a 5 fret 1 string style guitar wouldn't help with a real guitar.
- straxus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@FiveIron
Have you ever clicked one of those links? If not, you should. You'll be pleasantly surprised. - mvsmom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I'm sorry Mr. Jeter, we're going to have to cut you from the team, given that you can't field a ball in a video game using your own likeness.
- actorboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Still waiting for the hilarity. Has not yet ensued.
- postal21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I played guitar hero2 at a friends house... its so hard, but so fun and addicting at the same time.
Im sure after like 3-4 more rounds he would figure out the system and own it up... just a matter of figuring out how it plays.
I cant wait for this on xbox 360... omg. :) - BHRecon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i don't understand people who rag on this game.. i play guitar.. i play guitar hero.. the 2 are not mutually exclusive.
- Gazthrak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I don't understand why people feel the need to ***** on guitar hero. What are you afraid of?
Anyway, once upon a time I was learning how to play guitar. I took lessons and I had a lot of friends who knew how to play guitar real well, one who lived with me. However, I couldn't find it within me to really trudge through the basics that helped get you to the point all aspiring players want to go: Practicing regularly, building up finger dexterity, and developing rhythm. So I put it away and got into other things. Fast forward to now, having played GH2 considerably and gotten pretty good with some songs on expert and most songs on hard, I came back to my guitar and found the same exercises I used to do were a lot easier. My fingers had a lot more range of motion and could act independently of my other hand. I could keep tempo much better and I can play a section well enough that my motivation to keep going is "I almost got it." I'm not the only one I know that it has helped.
So don't knock it. Its not for everyone and some people are cut from a different cloth. However, I can't deny what I've seen.
EDIT: Thank you EmmSee - bagboyrebel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@skywake
Have you ever played a rhythm game? What were you expecting? - Mufflegrump, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6You're an idiot. I don't really feel like going into specifics, but it doesn't have anything to do with your opinion of Guitar Hero. :)
- tf5bassist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6people seriously need to stop wanking off to the "GH/GH2 sucks cause it's not like playing real guitar!!!!11!1!" argument. i'm a guitarist and a bassist, and i love the game for what it is: a game.
that being said, i'm still waiting for this freakin' video to play. :/ - shit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Next up: Scott Ian can't make his own Mii because he can't select a goatee that absurd.
- nyccharlie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"I couldn't hear myself, the monitors were horrible"
Nice XD - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Seems like Duggmirror didn't catch it, neither did Coral.
What kind of dumbass doesn't use YouTube when submitting videos to Digg? I could understand it if you were sure your server could handle the load, but c'mon. - sixarmedgod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It worked for me.
- CapeKid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4no duh, same company
- CardinalFang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wouldn't say so much that a real guitar has nothing to do with Guitar Hero. But I will say that if you're used to an actual guitar, you might not grasp Guitar Hero as easily. I can play a couple of songs on the real thing, but when I play those same songs in the game, I mess up because I'm used to different hand positioning, especially on high notes since you'd normally hit the frets closer to the body of the guitar, rather than closer to the head in the game. Like everyone else above me said, it just takes some getting used to.
- MaXiMuM32, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I agree with sinfony. I play the guitar and i have played guitar hero a couple of times. I was pretty good at it so it leads me to believe that some skills acquired through playing a real guitar can help when playing Guitar Hero. Even though it's a completely different experience you still need a good sense of rhythm to play both of them. The fact that I'm used to similar games such as Gitaroo Man and DrumMania probably helped more though.
- mariusaz, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13Playing the real thing is a hell of a lot better than this spank off game.
- d4v3l3r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It's a madhouse. Am I insane?
Great song! :) - Memitim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Only if your last name is Ramone.
- jpyun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Sinfony's right. If you play guitar, you're more likely to have finger strength and dexterity. Like he said, once you get used to the button placement, it's easy.
I'd guess the opposite is also true, although to a lesser extent. Guitar Hero adds to finger dexterity, so you become a little bit better. - oMeSSiaHo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I played Queens of the Stone Age's "No One Knows" at a friends house and it was a mess. Since I can play the real song I kept reaching up further on the neck where there werent even any buttons! =/ Instinct makes that game hella hard to play.
- technoweenie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What about those losers playing America's Army or Battlefield? They wouldn't last 2 minutes in a real battle!
- SakisRakis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When someone has played guitar they have the finger dexterity built up that someone who hasn't played guitar lacks, which is what makes GH/GH2 easier.
- deadlikeoscar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maybe it was just me but while I was watching that, Firefox kept connecting to 127.0.0.1 Which then made me think of my T-shirt I got from Think Geek.
- Cink420, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6http://duggmirror.com/gaming_news/Scott_Ian_of_Anthrax_Can_t_Finish_his_Own_Song_In_Guitar_Hero/
- EmmSee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2GH came extremely easy to me since I'm a professional musician. So it obviously helps to have some rhythmic background... and if you've never played an instrument and started with just GH, GH will aid your development in dexterity and rhythm when you move to the real thing.
- brotherfranciz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes.
- soulonefifteen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's especially great that Scott Ian is totally a good sport about it. He had to know that footage would pop up all over these internets, but he smiled and kept trying. Good for him.
- shm0edawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's because not everyone has enough talent to play an actual guitar, and even if they did, many would need lessons, which can be costly, in order to sound any good. Guitar hero lets you sound like a rock star without actually putting the effort in. Some people just don't have what it takes to play for real. I find it fun anyway, even though I do play guitar.
- dmerc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Not true. Guitar Hero helps train left hand/right hand coordination. Possibly the most important part of playing a real guitar.
- SeppukuBLUE, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3He would have passed if he used the Flying V. The original guitar tears off fingers. :
