- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Me and my friends used to spend hours playing the original.. alternating back and forth on one computer for our turns until someone managed to purchase the inevitable "Death's Head" weapon.
- josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I love this game... I still have the original...
- borchard76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I digg it, but it is old news. Scorched3d has been around for at least 3 years or more.
That said, although it is not a 'sequel', but a 3d remake, it is a really good remake, and the 3d is amazingly good.
If you liked the original (and who didn't?), then you need to check this out. Just make sure you have a decent video card. - VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11the original was great.
- Cheeseness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Scorched3D *isn't* Scorched Earth. Scorched3D was inspired by Scorched Earth, no doubt, but they're completely different games.
As far as the 3Dness of it goes, Scorched 3D is really good. There's a few camera issues that'd make it a little more accessible, but on the whole, it's a great game. I've been playing it at LANs for a while now, and all my mates think that as far as enjoyment goes, it's as good as Scorched Earth. - etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Yeah it's not a sequel - it's a remake (like the headline says) in a 3D environment. It's an excellent way to waste time and take some vengence out on your co-workers. Now if only they would do Loderunner 3D.
- atdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I agree, I think that sometimes 3D (and bells and whistles) take away from the game instead of adding
- Rosewood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The original is all I want ... just updated so it runs properly in XP
- JazonBladen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I remember in 9th grade when I installed Scorched Earth on all of the computers. I was one of the best in the school, until an accident involving Funky Bombs and forming an equilateral triangle with the traced line of said Funky Bomb. I shot it out and it bounced off the top, bounced off the side, and went back into my barrel. Needless to say, I didn't win that round.
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Does this remind anyone else of that old qbasic game where the gorillas threw exploding bananas at each other from the tops of buildings? THAT was a classic game.
- Cheeseness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Scorched3D is awesome once you get the hang of it.
- Cozmcphish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Holy Crap, been looking for this game for years!!!! Couldn't remember the name of it, you've just made a fellow gamer extremely happy!!!
- Sukino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think you can go visit a psychologist now.
- jbarket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Gorillas.bas
It was a great poorman's Scorched Earth. The best part was that a ton of random computers would have it, so if you were stranded somewhere with a random DOS box, it just might be there. - stan205, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4ahh, remembering the days of being a huge nerd spending many hours after school in the computer lab playing scorched earth from a 3.5" floppy.
I LOVE IT - thing-fish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Let me tell you right now: I'd pay $50 and wait in line overnight for Scorched on Nintendo DS. Maybe have a zoom of your tank on the bottom where you can adjust the turrent and select weapons and stuff, and the top screen could show the whole terrain like the DOS version. How RIGHTEOUS would 8 player DS wireless/internet play be?
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Rosewood:
You may be able to play the original using DOSbox. - Imagine3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I loved going though the files and changing the quotes used. So I would write something like "your mom was good last night" or other stuff similar to that. But is backfired on me so many times. lol. go figure.
- jbarket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That is *genius*. Let's hope you inspire somebody.
- Cheeseness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Quite old? A new version was released two weeks ago.
http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=432146&group_id=85144
As you can see, version 40 sports quite a number of fixes and new features. - ElectricKetchup, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3it has been around for a while and each year it gets better :) That's what's soo great about free software games :)
- ElectricKetchup, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6The IBM PC compatible version or the Amiga version?
I liked the Amiga version better myself. - inkyblue2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this rocks. much better than the old ti-82 version i wrote in high school. :)
- cmw72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2OMG those screenshots are sweet! I was not expecting that level of quality.
I miss the old Scorch .... this might just ease the pain. ;) - gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I still use the reference when something needs to be destroyed to using death's head. I am sure it has some other reference pre-scorch.
- ryllharu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you want to play the original, just download it from www.dosgames.com
The version they had before needed to be fixed, you had to delete a few files, but I just downloaded it to check it out, and it works fine on XP. - interiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Both the 2D and 3D versions are old, but both are good.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well yes - I get tired of it after time... but it's the same with any game. Scorched was great because a bunch of us could play in turn. Warlord was another game like that. I appreciated the simplicity of Scorched though. I still do.
But 3D is simply... rad. - Dosquatch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3nostalgic quote: "Holy ***** on a stick, Mr. Stupid's got The Bomb!"
- farrellj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ah, yes, it was a fine year for gaming when Scorched Earth came out! And so too was it great when the 3D remake came out. It's been a while since the 3D version was released, but I had totally forgotten about it. I'm sure that others had forgotten about it too, so it's nice to be reminded about it periodically. Thanx to the person who submitted the story!

Farrell - evizaer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone remember Blast Doors? It was the original 3D Scorched Earth remake. Fred's Friends released it such a long time ago. Nowhere near as fun as Scorched3D. Truly S3D inherited the awesomeness of the original.
- 000jr000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1as long as I can still edit a config file and give myself a bazillion dollars....
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh my gosh *blushes*
I thought It was a glorious day when they released the Kings Quest remake.
I wasted by youth in 2D spritely goodness, and now hopefully I can waste my 20's in Shaded 3D polygonal goodness! Ahh progress! - JiMiThInG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I spend countless hours of my youth playing the orginal. I was always the one who didn't mind killing all my own guys as long as got you too. I of course moved onto be a big worms nut. I'll be checking this out as soon as I have some free time.
- dimatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1neato. I actually haven't seen this before.
- thorbergdt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my buddy and I played this game like it was the only game out!...good bye cruel cruel world....ill be playing Scorched earth
- hygraed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I tried this a while ago; I found it too difficult to gauge where my shot was going to go, with the behind-the-tank perspective. The 2D version for me, please.
But it's a good game. - crobinso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1we have had this installed on atleast 6 machines at work for months now , so when it gets slow we all blast each other.
- crawf061, on 10/12/2007, -0/+140 versions and counting
- JangoFett, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4No thanks, that's just one too many dimensions for me.
- cenithx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed.. dugg for the addictiveness of it, but very old..
- Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OMG!!!! No way! It's amazing to see a crowd like myself who loved this (I played this and C-Dogs all day long as a kid). Too bad version 1.5 was where support for the original died =(
WOOT to the MAX! - doggy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I absolutely loved this game when I was a kid.
- Cheeseness, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's worth persevering with. Much like Worms and the original Scorched Earth, there's a learning curve involved. The relationship between power/gravity/wind isn't too hard to get a feel for.
- bailmark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, thanks for this post, but i've been playing Scorched 3D for quite a while at LANS. Its a good game.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I used to love shooting out the ground underneath my opponent, chipping away at it until they crashed down and blew up.
...the only problem is that sometimes when they blew up they took you with `em. Kinda like, poetic justice. :( - LoungeActx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this game totally kicked ass...but always ran way too fast on my XP machine. Great to see someone take it to the next level...i'm downloading it now for OS X. Can't wait to see how it runs.
- spindrift, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My favourite Scorched Earth clone ever - and please tell me I'm not the only one who remembers this - was the clone hidden inside the old Epic Megagames space shooter Tyrian. I forget what you had to do to get to it from the main menu (a very simple code) but I could have spent (actually did spend) countless hours playing.
- EmmSee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow... I haven't heard "Scorched" forever. That game was incredible.
- PlJack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg for the link to the original.
