- rocketboytom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20If you speak french and scroll to the bottom of the page, you find that the next article is an admission that this article is an april joke or 'poisson d'avril' as they call it in french. Here is the link to that article: http://www.inpactvirtuel.com/news/Sega-Console-5643-SEGA-NE-PREPARE-RIEN-DU-TOUT-COMME-CONSOLE-.htm
Babelfish is how stupid rumours get started. - bluehouse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.inpactvirtuel.com%2Factu%2Fnews%2FSega-Console-Hedgedog-5640-SEGA-PREPARE-UNE-CONSOLE-PORTABLE-POUR-2007-.htm&langpair=fr%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools
- Heretushi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13It may have something to do with the fact that Nintendo doesn't have to quit making their own consoles to stay in the business. Why would Nintendo make Mario games for other consoles when they don't have to do it to stay alive?
- joehobbes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Here's an English recap and analysis:
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2006/04/segas-new-retro-friendly-handheld.html - levi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Do you remember the Deamcast controller? Aside from the cable being on the wrong side it was arguably the best controller design so far.
Other than that they don't stand a chance against Nintendo and Sony unless maybe they partner with say Microsoft and sell it as the Xbox portable in the US and SEGA Gamegear in Japan. Maybe? - joehobbes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"emulate older sega hardware"
that's good enough for me!
Maybe they can tie this is in with the Revolution Virtual Console.
Buy game downloads on there and play them on this.
Don't know if Nintendo would like that or not though... - modsuperstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8If you can actually read french it admits at the bottom that it was an April Fools joke.
- tobb555, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I would sell my soul for this to be true. I miss you Sega !!
- kkaabboomm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9i'm sorry - i reported this as inaccurate - because it's fake - back when it had 2 diggs. how it made it to the front page i dont know.
- trash115, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7hmm, i'm not sure if i'm ready to believe this yet........
- Cowboy5995, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15Silly Sega. Game consoles are for successful companies.
- breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Marketing and management mistakes killed Sega's hardware. The hardware itself was generally extremely good (with a few notable exceptions).
- PicklePower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I think this would definitely succeed if they can get the battery life and expadability right...I should be able to use this to play my music and movies. Add some Wi-Fi, so we can do the whole DS-downloading-type thing and so I can play online games and remotely control my desktop. There we go.
- funkytaco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I thought Sega was out of the market? :O I loved my DreamCast. I played NES emulators without any mods!
- trimsheenapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Post: *Link showing that article is April fools day joke*
Post: "Aw this would kick ass, Hope it's real".
Post "I wonder if they'll emulate all of Sega's consoles?"
Post "Another link showing the article is a load of nonsense".
Post "Those specs are pretty impressive, the design is terrible though"
Post "I'm pretty sure this is fake"
Post "Yet another f$%king link showing the article is *****".
Post "Sega are so stupid for trying to re-enter the console market, They should stick to games"
Post "OMG! I want one!"
Post "This has to be fake. I mean Sega would be slaughtered by Nintendo and Sony"
Post "And another link showing the article is nothing but a joke"
Post "Ugh, what a crap design"
And so on....
The paucity of attention around here never ceases to amaze me. - joehobbes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It says it will support standard flash media cards (like the Revolution), so it's expandable to a few GBs if you want
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It was an APRIL FOOLS JOKE.
- merdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"this is retarded.
SEGA is a software company now. they will never produce hardware again (thank god...)."
ok Kip,
The Dreamcast was one of the greatest consoles ever made, dont know about you but im really excited about this! - SoulMaster2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The Revolution and Xbox 360 aren't handheld systems...
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5how big will the storage be? im pretty sure that any smart portable dev will have emulation on it and a big HD
- HellaBAD, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Sorry man, but this one's a fake:
http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&langpair=fr%7Cen&u=http://www.inpactvirtuel.com/news/Sega-Console-5643-SEGA-NE-PREPARE-RIEN-DU-TOUT-COMME-CONSOLE-.htm&prev=/language_tools
Sega's already said they aren't doing consoles anymore, and if they do, there's no way it would look that ugly, haha. - joehobbes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"It will be out for the Christmas 2006."
It should read 2007, not 2006 - HellaBAD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Sorry to debunk this so soon:
http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&langpair=fr%7Cen&u=http://www.inpactvirtuel.com/news/Sega-Console-5643-SEGA-NE-PREPARE-RIEN-DU-TOUT-COMME-CONSOLE-.htm&prev=/language_tools
Not to mention that design looks completely horrid. - SysErr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hmm, seeing as how it's old news that they posted on April 2nd, I'd guess they got taken by an April Fool's Day joke...
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is really fake. Sega doesn't have the kind of money or resources they did 12 years ago, so a console launch is out of the question
- DannySpace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If I could only find Altered Beast for one of the cosoles today.... Damn, that is the only reason why I miss my genesis.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I spilled water in mine.... on purpose.
- zeebo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I have no doubt that there will be a portable that will tie in to the Revolution's virtual console, but it won't be something from Sega. This is as fake as the PSi, or the early second revision DS mockups. Actually, its more fake then those. Sega would not be getting back into the console race after retreating to just making games with a portable to compete against the gameboy. That would be suicide.
I could see a device in the $20 range that played only a handful of games on a rom, but there are already genesis controllers with A/V cables as a cord that fill that niche, and adding the cost of a screen good enough for genesis games would put it into the $40-$60 pricerange where it would compete directly against the gameboy advance SP.
I'm still hoping that there will be a way to play dreamcast games on the revolution, or at least its decendents. - Dreamtwister, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This was mentioned in other forums...came around April 1st... can you see where I'm going with this?
- alai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Agreed.
And as much as I hate to say it, I don't really think we need another competitor in the handheld market. - SoulMaster2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Well in the meantime I'll just play Genesis games on my PSP. They've finally done mulitplayer through wifi so co-op Streets of Rage here I come =P
- koheed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I call shenanigans !! I realize it's an obvious fake, but shenanigans none the less.
- trash115, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The portable market is extremely tough to break into.
I see that they are incorporating parts of both psp and ds, but not doing any of them any better.
There's just no technological advantage... - dtaylor05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3it's the 13th and we're still getting fooled by april fool's jokes
- briansalo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Wasn't it already announced that the Revolution or 360 had the rights to put old Sega games for download on their new systems, and wouldn't that make it less worth buying it? I mean, playing the DC Sonic Adventure on it would be nice, but albeit a little too expensive at the moment.
Something seems hoax-y about this. - Shivoa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Posted on April 2nd. I suspect they put the article out a day late.
- ggko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Give them to Ben Heckendorn and they will be.
- AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The Dreamcast still is in arguably one of the best consoles to date. Its far better than any crap Sony or Microsoft has pushed thus far.
- viciousnet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yeah, in all honesty i believe keeping mario and things like zelda on nintendo was a conscious decision. they dont want to branch those characters out. those are the ones that continue to bring people in.
now if only they could come up with something similar in terms of buyer craze to another pokemon game for the ds.. thats what they need.. a high demand for a game to get their expensive handhelds - nights0223, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm sorry but SEGA Hedgehog sounds like a fake and unoriginal name to me. Definately not something SEGA would come up with.
- ErinIsADrunk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Sega just licensed a bunch of their older games for use on the Nintendo Reveloution download service didn't they? If they did this then why would they then turn around a make a portable system that emulates all their older consoles?
- Julz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2thank god its just a joke..... coz that consold is ugly! lol i used to like SEGA (alex the kid rocks!) but they just couldnt keep up with nintendo or sony.
- SoulMaster2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://dl.qj.net/DGEN-for-PSP-v1.40-for-1.50-PSP-PSP-Emulators/pg/12/fid/5910/catid/133
There you go =P - Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why would Nintendo give up its intellectual property like Mario and Link? Sega had to put Sonic out on other consoles because he was a successful-enough figure that could earn them money elsewhere when they couldn't do it themselves.
- disillusioned, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Really?
If that's the case, Digg must be how stupid rumors proliferate... - Ralphy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I hope it's real but probably not :(
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i could poop out a better design then that. while it might be cool for them to come out with something, i would hope it'd look better. i don't think this thing is real though. there isn't a big enough market for it, they'd be better giving their back catalog to nintendo to put on the DS
- evilpettingzoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6After the death of the dreamcast I swore never to buy another console from Sega ever again. I don't think i could take being abandoned by Sega again.
- SkaAgent11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3For nostalgia purposes going back to the days where it was just nintendo and sega would be great.
This is off topic but let me just say...I'm really ***** excited for the revolutionl. -
