- unabsolute, on 03/19/2009, -31/+166Thats ok. I have no immediate plans to purchase a PS3...
- eramos, on 03/20/2009, -2/+79Why would anyone believe this? Even if it's true, they wouldn't say there's a price drop coming, because then people would stop buying and wait till the price drops to buy one.
- FFXIfrohike, on 03/20/2009, -18/+83SCEA - We have NO immediate plans to be competitive.
- chadsmith729, on 03/19/2009, -4/+61This just in, nobody is shocked to hear that the price of the PS3 will not drop. Back to you Bob.
- sugarazor, on 03/20/2009, -0/+45No idea why you're getting dugg down. Every company denies price drops until they happen.
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -4/+47Dunno.. maybe the whole recession thing or the rapidly improvement of technology dropping production costs and thus retail price.
- defenswens26, on 03/20/2009, -15/+57I bought mine for $400 last summer and I'd say it's worth every cent. I guess I just don't see why some people will hold out for this long rumored $100 price drop. If you want it, just get it. If that $100 is gonna break the bank, maybe you should take a second look at your priorities.
- fadetoone, on 03/20/2009, -2/+44I have no immediate plans to eat mexican food this week... but I probably will.
- tadj, on 03/19/2009, -1/+36"Most major analysts expects Sony to announce a two-stage price drop for PS3 this year - $50 around June time and a futher $50 before the holidays"
That sounds like the most likely senario... - kinseyincanada, on 03/20/2009, -0/+34i dunno to catch up the the 360 and sell a ***** load more consoles.
- retral, on 03/20/2009, -1/+29Of course they're not going to announce a price drop.. they wouldn't want to kill sales before the fact.
PS3's would be doing better sales wise if they weren't so damn expensive. - deealf, on 03/20/2009, -10/+34That's ok. I already own one...
- GMaldonado, on 03/20/2009, -8/+31You know that game is multi-platform right?
- Jhiaxuz, on 03/20/2009, -1/+22To get people like me interested.
- otakugeek, on 03/20/2009, -1/+21Not really a good indicator as Killzone was only out for 2 days of February.
- hartley, on 03/20/2009, -16/+33Frugal Gamers - We have NO immediate plans to buy a PS3.
- c010rb1indusa, on 03/20/2009, -3/+18Good point, I love my PS3, I use it for all my media but it's way to pricey for people who just want to play great games without having to spend double for them. PS3 has many great games but so does the 360, difference is a 360 Arcade will run you $200 while the cheapest PS3 is $400...it's kind of a no brainer for someone without a disposable income.
- chaosblade77, on 03/20/2009, -1/+15But this was a PlayStation. Just having that in the name makes it a god among game consoles. A majestic force that no other game system could possibly surpass. If they wanted, a Sony executive could crap in a box, throw in a controller, and consumers would still line up to buy it. A $600 console? Big deal, people will eat it up.
At least, that's what Krazy Ken Kutaragi thought. - inactive, on 03/20/2009, -1/+14To compete rather than fail?
- Jrr6415sun, on 03/20/2009, -1/+14yea i came here to post the same comment.. it doesn't matter what company it is they will never admit there is a price drop coming. Do you think anyone would have bought a $600 iphone if apple announced that they were going to lower the price in the immediate future?
- defenswens26, on 03/20/2009, -0/+13It's "Dig your own grave"
The more you know! - spiralspirit, on 03/20/2009, -3/+16the xbox 360 launched @ 399.00, and the PS3 @ 499. Regardless of the built in wireless, the blu ray drive, etc, people kept saying that the ps3 was prohibitively expensive compared to the xbox. The price difference was only $100, 20% of the price of a ps3.
- richiegecko79, on 03/20/2009, -1/+13How many times are people going to repeat this comment?
By the way...I have no immediate plans to buy it. :P - MasterPlayer, on 03/20/2009, -1/+11I wouldn't be surprised if they have one at around E3.
- TheRealDj, on 03/20/2009, -0/+10Evidence is that there's a price drop coming for GDC:
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/03/17/target-receives- ...
http://www.gamezine.co.uk/news/formats/playstation ... - GrooTheWanderer, on 03/20/2009, -0/+8In other words, there are plans to drop the price - otherwise they wouldn't have to qualify it with "immediate".
- BedPost, on 03/20/2009, -8/+16With the release of Killzone 2, they only pushed 73k more units in February than they did in January. That's why.
- GMaldonado, on 03/20/2009, -1/+8What a fool!
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 03/20/2009, -0/+7480p isn't standard definition...
- zeebo, on 03/20/2009, -3/+10Not dropping the price is fine, but they need to add some more value to the PS3 to make it worth me picking it up at a time like this. I don't get why Sony insists on punishing people who didn't have the cash to drop $599 for the thing at launch.
My PS2 isn't going to last forever, I've got quite a bit put into games for the thing. As soon as Sony releases a new model with backwards compatibility I'll pick it up. Till then, no sale. - serif69, on 03/20/2009, -1/+8I hope you do have immediate plans to evacuate your bowels, because you're not gonna have a choice in that matter.
- inactive, on 03/20/2009, -0/+7Congratulations, you're the millionth person to say that in the comments for this article. You get +5 "I'm original" diggs.
- solmakou, on 03/20/2009, -0/+6Just let me know what the cost of a PS3 is when FFXIII comes out, until then it's just a waiting game :<
- daywalker2676, on 03/20/2009, -1/+7I have no immediate plans to eat. But I'll probably eat in an hour or so.
- danwallace, on 03/20/2009, -1/+7Why would they drop the price? You're already getting more than you pay for with the current price. Great system.
- GMaldonado, on 03/20/2009, -1/+7Isn't it "Dig your own grave" ?
- scottinks, on 03/20/2009, -3/+9You obviously don't know a damn thing about the PS3
- noangelcame, on 03/20/2009, -1/+7Well, to be fair, those consoles really had very little to offer compared to the PS3.
The 3do was $700 when it first came out,. huge difference, and yet didn't really have a gaming experience to match that price tag.
The Jaguar was just a sick joke of marketing a system as a 64-bit console, when it had visuals that were only marginally better than the SNES and Genesis. Also, their were hardly any quality games to ever come out for it.
The Neo Geo,. while it had amazing games, and great visuals, you had to fork over $200.00 or more for each game at the time.
While the Saturn had some solid games, it was $100.00 more than the Playstation. And with the Playstation proving to be a more powerful 3d machine, comparing any two examples side by side, it was destined to lose.
At least with the Playstation3, you have a growing library of solid games, and a top of the line Blu-Ray player. You're getting more, for less than what you would have paid for any of the consoles listed above.
I'm not saying that the Playstation3 isn't in a dire situation and needs a price cut badly. I'm just saying that the comparison you are making to those other console failures is way off the mark. - dandonia, on 03/20/2009, -2/+8I don't know anyone that went out of their way to pick up the machine just because Killzone 2 launched. It's not like anyone even knew what Killzone 1 was.
- MrFisty, on 03/20/2009, -0/+6I already own a PS3 but the lack of price drop really ***** me. It just comes across as obnoxious and prevents the system getting into more homes.
360 vs PS3 debate aside, it's a good system, it's just too damned expensive this far into its lifecycle. - UNDERSTAR, on 03/20/2009, -1/+7Who the hell is Bob?
- CanadianSixPack, on 03/20/2009, -0/+5Enjoy your meal.
- ericrous, on 03/20/2009, -0/+5So they wouldn't still be in a distant third place?
- jeremymccurdy, on 03/20/2009, -2/+7Well RE5 isn't a PS3 exclusive, so Killzone 2 is really the only current reason.
- AndrewDB, on 03/20/2009, -0/+5Why would they tell a ***** website like VGChartz their plans anyway if they did have plans?
- Cheesepuffly, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4yes but it does MUCH MUCH MUCH more than play blu rays.
- jeremymccurdy, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4360 and PS3, no word on a PC version yet despite the game being developed originally for the PC because porting is easier that way.
- dandonia, on 03/20/2009, -3/+7And that means that he can't be glad to own a PS3, you know one of the consoles that the game is released on? And one where he doesn't have to pay a fee to play it online with his mates.
You do realise that multi-platform often means PS3 included right? - mywhitenoise, on 03/20/2009, -3/+7horrible example, it's widely known that Oblivion is one of the few games that DOES perform better on PS3.
RE5 and Fallout 3 on the other hand are much better on 360. - Mpwns, on 03/20/2009, -0/+4neo-geo's are still at or little above what they retailed for, and they are used.
