- SamSks, on 01/03/2009, -1/+53Roy can sing! That guy had over a 3 octave range (Most of today's singers have a problem with one octave.).
The Beatles actually opened for HIM.
One day, he lost his coke bottle glasses and the only pair he had around was his prescription sun glasses - a look was born!
"In Dreams" was a song about his first wife who was killed and how much he missed her. Unlike most rock stars, he was a guy who valued his love and his wife. He also stayed with his second wife until the end.
Anyway, he was a talent that you don't see much of anymore in pop music. He had more talent in his pinkie than today's entire top 40.
Yeah, I'm old. - mediamelt, on 01/03/2009, -2/+35I'm 31 and play Rock Band on a regular basis. I have about 75% of the DLC, just about everything but the obscure metal stuff. I'm single, work in tech, and have plenty of money to spend on entertainment. I am HMX's target demographic when it comes to DLC, not the Guitar Hero kiddies who believe only bands like Metallica should make it into the game simply because their songs will contain "m0r3 not3z".
Pretty Woman and You Got It are classic karaoke songs, and will be well fun to play as a full band. Looking forward to it! - xprojects, on 01/03/2009, -0/+19It's nice that these music games are bringing classic music to the ears of the kids, but will they download it? Roy is a well talented dude, I hope his Rock Band offerings get some love.
- Rapter09, on 01/03/2009, -0/+17Time to bring Rock Band over to my grandparents. They'd get a kick out of this.
Despite being a 20-something, I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate Roy Orbison, and his music will always bring great memories of my grandparents. - Ravenhaft, on 01/03/2009, -1/+18Awesome! I love Roy Orbison. Somehow I don't think this is going to attract his original audience to the game, but those of us who were fascinated by Blue Velvet might download these.
- elliotys, on 01/03/2009, -0/+15Im only 25 and I agree that his voice was truly special.
- TheKipper, on 01/03/2009, -0/+12Dugg for actually adding something valuable to the story.
- lordwow, on 01/03/2009, -0/+11I love the comments on Kotaku, it's not like this guy is a Rock and Roll LEGEND or anything.
- codyman, on 01/03/2009, -0/+11The Man, The Legend.... Roy Orbison
Would really love some Traveling Wilbury's songs put on there... probably best super group ever even though Roy unfortunately was on only volume I - tavallai, on 01/03/2009, -0/+9Orbison may not be what you want to play, but a surprising proportion of the latest generation gamers is over the age of 35... Hell, AC/DC's fanbase are older than Roy Orbison's casket and have their own track pack out.
On top of that, this can be an "evangelism" title, bringing the parents of young kids who already own Rock Band into the fold and thinking, "Hey, I could get into this!"
Putting classics into games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero could be the Tetris/Brain Age of music games - bringing in people who otherwise wouldn't have considered playing. - Burrito, on 01/03/2009, -1/+10You falsely assume that you represent their entire demographic.
- Sherman901, on 01/03/2009, -2/+10Holy ***** you guys are annoying.
- Wolfboy, on 01/03/2009, -0/+8Mercy!
- Jimmerz, on 01/03/2009, -0/+8So you don't play that track. Perhaps they are trying for a wider demographic. Perhaps some people in your demographic appreciate more variety.
- neogreat, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6I wonder if there'll be a mod to show him wrapped in clingflim?
http://www.michaelkelly.fsnet.co.uk/karl.htm - holeepenguinpee, on 01/03/2009, -0/+6Kotaku is only slightly better than Youtube's comments
- jeuhrn, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5It's a game, it's not about instruments, *****.
- seinman, on 01/03/2009, -0/+5I don't understand this argument. Nobody tells me to join the Marines because I like Halo. Nobody tells me to race cars because I enjoy Gran Turismo. But as soon as I say I like Rock Band or Guitar Hero, it's always "OMG fag go play guitar hahaha!"
I'm very confused. - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4i wish World Tour would actually release songs with the same frequency as Rock Rand does
- deaftly, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4kotaku sucks
- Spoomeister, on 01/03/2009, -2/+6I may go out and get some of this, simply for the possibility of a mystery setlist that contains Roy Orbison, folllowed by Yngwie Malmsteen, closed with Norman Greenbaum.
Seriously, if Rock Band continues stretching "rock" like this, they may want to consider a patch that further classifies some of the music and keeps genres / eras together in mystery setlists. Or it's only gonna get weirder.
But yeah, as previously noted, Roy can sing. Singers who think throwing Roy into a setlist is going to be a cakewalk are in for a nasty surprise. - seinman, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4How narrow is your taste in music? There's like 300 DLC tracks available (edit: I was wrong! The actual count is 399, including these six coming out on Tuesday) covering dozens of genres. Everything from modern hits to classic deep cuts. I've yet to meet a person who didn't find at least one of those tracks appealing.
- johnroth, on 01/03/2009, -2/+6This is cool... but where are They Might Be Giants? I would buy that ***** up so fast it would make my ***** burn.
- floydax, on 01/03/2009, -0/+4Damn, no "Only The Lonely"...
- Chooxo, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4I like that they mix it up a bit. Not every week suits me, but I prefer the diversity.
- Spoomeister, on 01/03/2009, -3/+6Buried comment for a being a 'power digger' whiner.
- GMofOLC, on 01/03/2009, -0/+3I just told this to my dad and he went "Ooooooooooohh!!!!"
- christopheles, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4They're still working on the accordion add-on.
- WhoDoneIt, on 01/03/2009, -1/+4So you are saying that when you purchased RB it was just luck that most of the songs on the disc you liked?
I have a hard time believing that out of 399 songs available for download, not one you'd consider to buy. - inactive, on 01/03/2009, -3/+6Out of all the power users, BWC consistently has the best submissions, and his seem to rise on merit, not by shouting, im, etc. Also, Orbison is the man. If you don't know that, you don't know enough about rock history to even play Rock Band.
- xprojects, on 01/04/2009, -1/+4Behind/around him playing the bass, guitar and drums.
- jfg84, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Time to reenact Blue Velvet!
- gabbagabbahey, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Link Wray btw
- Zippo, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2God dammit, I want Stan Bush on Rock Band... and possibly some Barenaked Ladies (aside from that one Hanukkah song)
- dafragsta, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3My mom told me not to get a tattoo of Roy Orbison on my chest. Did I listen to her?
- Frophauser, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3Please explain. They chart the music and make the tracks available for download, what's to find distasteful?
- inactive, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2Its cool that Rock Band is becoming a tool to discover new music as well as bringing back classics.
- BannedEagle, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2I wanted to belt that one out as well
- microview2007, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2Apparently the demographics you speak of do not extend beyond the four walls you live in. I personally love Roy Orbison and have recent purchased his Black & White Night on BluRay. He is awesome and I look forward to playing Pretty Women or Blue Bayou on RB.
- factotum218, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Badass! Now all we need is some Link Ray and Eddy Cochran to round it out.
- internetcoward, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2the way they present the bands, the way the game just IS is general. Its ***** moronic.
- Ultrace, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3Sorry, you're too restrictive. If in the hundreds of songs that have been released you haven't been able to find something that you like enough to purchase, you use too narrow a net. You are definitely not the target demographic of Harmonix. As a matter of fact, as narrow as your preferences are, it's amazing you bothered to pick up the game at all.
- Lucifugerising, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2That sucks, no Life Fades Away.
One of his saddest songs.
Still I'm really excited for this. - BrokenVisage, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Van Halen's version of Pretty Woman might play a little better on RB *hint hint cough*
That being said I can't wait to play 'You Got It' which is one of my all-time favorites. - fuzzynyanko, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Hm... do they have Tetris music in Rock Band?
- johnroth, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2Yeah they use the accordion a lot, but their newest album The Else has a lot of awesome songs on it that I'm sure would work really well for Rock Band.
- holeepenguinpee, on 01/03/2009, -0/+2wtf?
- bastardo, on 01/04/2009, -0/+2Rrrrrrrrawwrrrrr
- inactive, on 01/03/2009, -1/+3Guitar hero is nothing WITH metallica. Great band, one of my favorites, but the guitar hero franchise is almost dead. World tour was terrible.
