- braineater2448, on 05/07/2008, -15/+87I really dislike how Digg now has these pompous arrogant pricks that think they know everything. VGChartz has been getting increasingly better at estimating video game sales. The problem is that too many of you have your heads too far up your asses to ever read the stories or check the numbers when compared to NPD or company Financial Statements.
You have to realize how hard it is to estimate every game and console on a week to week basis. Without direct numbers from the companies themselves, it is a very complicated process. One that sometimes proves to be slightly inaccurate due to the speedy nature at which the info is delivered.
Everyone who puts down VGChartz, I challenge you to find a better week-to-week source. If you think you can do better, please try. The truth is, it's free, weekly information. They aren't claiming to be 100% accurate. NPD isn't 100% accurate either. It is like comparing a Ferrari and a Honda. Of course a Ferrari is the better car. But you pay more for it. Sure NPD may be a more accurate source, but you pay for it. The way I see it, VGChartz and NPD do similar tasks in very different ways. I wish some of you would do more research before you commented and buried articles. - xcelx1023, on 05/07/2008, -3/+62Wow $400!!!! I bought the Special Edition GTA4 so i alone account for almost 25% of the profits! Go Me!
- soundsofreason, on 05/07/2008, -21/+78Ah, the overrated Halo 3 gets a well deserved boot.
- cyrix, on 05/07/2008, -2/+39Thank ***** god.
- CTK14A, on 05/07/2008, -5/+39Does this mean we won't have "Grand Theft Auto IV 2: Pro Street 2009" by Christmas?
- fadetoone, on 05/07/2008, -0/+26Indeed. Considering I spent $48 for my copy of the game, those 5,999,999 other people sure got a steal...
- Shuk, on 05/07/2008, -0/+19This is what happens when developers TAKE THEIR TIME and make a good game and advertise it well. Rockstar and Take Two understand this, and that's why they can make a killing. Too many company companies (*cough* EA) think that they can market an idea or a concept and sell a crappy game. If EA were in charge of GTA, it would probably be just as controversial, but instead the game would be contrived, cheesy, and boring, but you could still steal cars and kill hookers. They would then advertise the game as "you're a criminal who steals cars! Buy the game!". It would sell, but not nearly as much. I hope EA steers clear of Take Two.
- richmomz, on 05/07/2008, -10/+28Where are they getting their info from?
- littleodie914, on 05/07/2008, -7/+22Those are the ***** looking graphs I've *ever* seen... =-o
- inactive, on 05/07/2008, -0/+14I really like the game, but some of the stuff I loved about GTA:SA is missing. I hear you cant You cant customize cars, no skill improvements, cant buy new places, its even harder to beat people that are already on the ground! (yes, I know I have problems).
I say "I hear" because I have not finished the game yet and some of these things could be unlocked, but I have read on the forums that they are just plain gone. I loved these things, and they should have been expanded on and not removed.
Still a great game, I love the new more realist driving too. - joebeastie, on 05/07/2008, -0/+14you are a douche

- terplox, on 05/07/2008, -2/+12Hell no.
- 9mmCensor, on 05/07/2008, -1/+11Buy good tech.
Hire great artists and coders.
Expensive things like pro voice acting to make things seem real and cinematic.
Details and polish are extremely manpower intensive. - chaos7, on 05/07/2008, -1/+10put EA out of business PLEASE.
- AndrewDB, on 05/07/2008, -1/+10Four years development time, keeping employees happy, food.. etc.
- makkaveli19, on 05/07/2008, -2/+11^and the fanboys come
- HanSolo69, on 05/07/2008, -0/+9what's with the ($400) in the title?
- MrLunk, on 05/07/2008, -4/+12Sales will freeze soon... just like the game... :(
- Rodalli, on 05/07/2008, -1/+9Talent is expensive. What's even more expensive is keeping that talent from losing their minds; game development is an extremely stressful job. It's completely normal for development teams to have to work 60 hour work weeks for weeks at a time as a project nears deadline. That's a lot of overtime.
- HarryEast, on 05/07/2008, -5/+13Funny that Take Two have just announced the exact same thing today. Looks like VG Chartz were right again

- insanecee, on 05/07/2008, -5/+11***** yeh and everything that says GTA 4 is dugg and made popular in no time at all its a ***** badass game thank you rockstar
- mattyice11, on 05/07/2008, -5/+11Do you want your numbers fast or do you actually want them to be right? You'll have to wait a couple weeks if you want the latter.
- anillop, on 05/07/2008, -5/+11Go away fanboy. No Mario here so just move along.
- xtrench, on 05/07/2008, -2/+8They made money? But how? There's piracy and stuff!
- blackhole82, on 05/07/2008, -1/+7That's probably the xbox360 hardware there.
- BadBosco, on 05/07/2008, -1/+7buried for said like 5 comments ago
- dfsjdkflasjk, on 05/07/2008, -1/+6You don't like giving companies profits. Alright, that kind of makes sense. But what money was it that gave them the ability to develop GTAIV in the first place? Oh right, the profits they made off of GTAIII, GTA:VC and GTA:SA. But if everyone pirated like the douchebag that you are, these games would be nonexistent. But, since we're all selfish, or at least clearly you are, let's ignore said fact and decrease the quality of the next game by however large the margin of pirated copies are out there. And the 300+ people who spent 3-4 years developing the game? Screw them, they don't need money to live, they already have enough, right?
- HarryEast, on 05/07/2008, -5/+10Agreed. The VG Chartz bashing is totally out of hand, how many of you actually check the site out and follow the numbers before posting garbage and burying stories just because they are from vgchartz? Seriously, grow up.
- mciampa1214, on 05/07/2008, -9/+14shut up, commie
- hendriks, on 05/07/2008, -0/+5A patch has been released. I turned on my PS3, and it's downloading now. I hope it will work!!
- inactive, on 05/07/2008, -1/+6They could but they are entitled to two things, one to make a profit and reward the employees and owners that made this game possible, the other is to save some of that to pay for development of games that flop. It can take years to get a quality game on the market, years when you are paying salaries, benefits, office lease, electricity, and finally you put the game out and it flops, rather than going out of business they should be entitled to keep this.
Now with that said, they can more easily lower the price, but again see #1 and #2 above, especially #1. - inactive, on 05/07/2008, -0/+5Yes, and yes.
- xGrill, on 05/07/2008, -0/+5From that blog
Update: Rockstar today confirmed that 6 million copies were sold in the first 5 days but posted a total revenue figure of $500 million rather than our $390. In hindsight, the game sells for closer to $100 in Europe (when taking the exchange rate into account) and $60 in America with the collectors edition being around half again so our initial per game cost of $65 was pessimistic and total revenue will be more like the $500 million Rockstar reported. - diggapleeeze, on 05/07/2008, -0/+4Easily. The general cost per person working on a game is $10k/month (that's not their paycheck). If they had an average of 200 people working on the game for four years (which I think I read they had an insane number of people working on this) after four years you've spent $96 million.
- adidos, on 05/07/2008, -1/+5They only made $400. Read the title of this article again. Duhh!
- brokencode, on 05/07/2008, -1/+5Hopefully! EA will undoubtedly try again.
- Pyehole, on 05/07/2008, -0/+4The game deserves to have a sell through like that. It's just that good.
- inactive, on 05/07/2008, -1/+5I do agree with the darkness, plus everything is blurry, it's really hard on my old eyes. Kinda looks like those early xbox360 games graphic wise, like Test Drive Unlimited for example. And if you put contrast too high it's just plain ugly.
But I also think this is one of the best games I ever played (ever). There's so much content, I usually finish games in an afternoon or two, I've been playing this since it came out and I'm still not half done. Once you're done with the missions, you still have a lot of stuff to do. Kind of game I have fun just fooling around. Which is really rare when you think about it. I'll have a blast just fooling around with a scooter. You could spend hours playing this game without even attempting a single mission and still have a lot of fun. I can't think of many games that are this way aside from GTA copies like Saint's Row.
I think it does deserve maybe a 9.5, removing .5 for the graphics not being "perfect". -
