- jacksons98, on 10/10/2007, -21/+128What I'd like the Rockstar rep to say is the "complete GTA4 experience" is included in the $59 price of the game to begin with. Gouging X360 owners for the "complete experience" thru Live fees doesn't make it all that special.
- Nethid, on 10/10/2007, -49/+101In further news, PS3 owners "give up".
- nihility, on 10/10/2007, -10/+49He also said this:
"They're identical games," Simon continued. "We're not hardware makers, and we're not like a pawn between these companies, we try not to be as much as we can. We make great games for people to enjoy on whichever system they want.
So sort of inaccurate. - NsertNameHere, on 10/10/2007, -4/+42there's 50 million reasons for Hosi Simon to say that.
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -7/+41Sony has never heard of compression. I saw it in a .bmp they posted.
- AzDraon, on 10/10/2007, -10/+43Basically if you want to spend $10-20 on expansions for GTA4, go right ahead and get the 360. Otherwise the choice is yours. (I just got the Captain Planet theme stuck in my head)
- reed311, on 10/10/2007, -4/+29Yeah and you only have to wait two years for the port, what a deal.
- elvenseven, on 10/10/2007, -12/+37Their consoles don't give up though :)
- vawksel, on 10/10/2007, -18/+432 to 3 months for a 360 repair? I call shenanigans you Sony fan boy.
- Sirocco, on 10/10/2007, -7/+29How about putting all the content into a single package and stop dinging your customers for overpriced content that should have been in the game from day one?
I tell you, this is a ***** trend. - untzboy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+25Niko:"Give me your money!" Pedestrian:"Please visit the Marketplace for more information."
- readme, on 10/10/2007, -12/+33For $50M I'll say anything too.
- username9000, on 10/10/2007, -11/+30This isn't about how much it is going to cost or what the content is. It is about the fact that there will be additional content on the 360 that will not be on the PS3. That additional content, along with the fact that the game will be "identical" to that of the PS3 means that if you have a PS3 and a 360, the 360 is the one to buy, if only to have the option to get the DLC if it turns out to be worth it.
Anyone who scoffs at this choice is simply a fanboy.
If this content was on the PS3, you think it would be free? I don't think so. - truspector, on 10/10/2007, -12/+31That's what Sony wants you to think. Unfortunately for them, there will probably be a few GB to spare.
- quentinp, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19As a major 360 fan, I have to say I'm getting tired of the 360 vs PS3 war already! I'll have both eventually and my personal sense of self-worth won't be tied up to either. Both systems will have sufficient following that the games will flow for both and that's really all that's important.
- NSMike, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19Warning: This whole thread is for trolls. Extreme possibility of brain cell death if read.
- untzboy, on 10/10/2007, -19/+35No. Im not going to leave my PS3 for Halo.
- Phyltre, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21I don't see why people are afraid to pay extra for extra content. I understand the logic that in the future, they might shorten games while maintaining cost, in order to push people towards secondary purchases. But that's not the case here--the PS3 version won't be capable of having the added content, but the game will still cost the same.
So what's the problem? It's no worse than episodic content for Half Life 2 coming from Steam, or anything similar. - chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -7/+23and it was then confirmed last month that Microsoft paid $50 million for the content. So no, PS3 won't get anything. Do try and keep up.
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16And on top of that, games are hosted on dedicated servers. I have an XBL account and don't understand why I have to pay to host games.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17Breaking news: electronics break.
SNES, Genesits, Gameboys (esp the pixel issue), all broke.
The 360s have a known defect in them, which is why MS upped the warranty to 3 years to cover everyone.
Do PS3s break? Sure. As much as 360s? Hardly. And a warranty is a warranty. If your system is busted, they will fix it. - samdu, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17Downloadable content, by definition, isn't on the disc.
- username9000, on 10/10/2007, -7/+20are you serious? if it is good, most people that enjoy the game will...
- staticneuron, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14I think there is nothing wrong with paying for extra content. As long as its worthwhile and as long as it doesn't feel like they left it out on purpose just to charge you for it later.
- m4szyman, on 10/10/2007, -7/+18The PS3 and Xbox360 versions are exactly the same out of the box, its not like the PS3 version is gimped. I personally don't pay for DLC anyway so its not a selling point for me, not to mention the GTA games are massive anyways (I spent over 50 hours on San Andreas and still didn't 100% it), its not like you're gonna beat it over night. If DLC is your thing then cool, but I personally wont feel like I'm missing out on anything
- slaystench, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13I'm shocked that Rockstar would say this after the 50 million Microsoft paid them.
- jolieve, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I have a ps3 and know a lot of people with ps3s. I have friends with 360s. I've only ever heard of the 360s being returned.
The truth is, Microsoft rushed the 360 to market and failed to work out all the glitches in the hardware. Sony has been in the electronics business since 1948 and is honestly much more knowledgeable about how to get functioning electronics out to market than Microsoft.
Does this make the ps3 a better console? Not necessarily. It just means that Sony has more experience with launching electronics than Microsoft does. If Microsoft had waited and spent more time on R&D of the 360, I doubt that it would have these problems at all. - Zamfir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10"...and we're not like a pawn between these companies..."
...but we would gladly change our mind for about $50 million. - reed311, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12I think the obvious reason for him saying that is because they expect to make big paper with all the "micro"-transactions that go along with xbox live. I have a 360 and I am interested in seeing what additional content we will be getting. Rockstar is a quality company, so I don't think they will be ripping us off content wise when it comes to purchasing additional things.
- KyleMistry, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I'm selling my Wii for PS3 money.
- staticneuron, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10People repeating compression and how it should be used.... seriously this is a fanboy point of contention. With HD textures there is an issue with balance between speed, memory consumption and quality. Instead of storing the textures in ram and taking up cycles to process data the PS3 doesn't have to do that because of the disc space, so devs are streaming this data off of the disc. Lair devs have claimed to stream textures and geometry while naghty dog has claimed that uncharted streams "everything"' textures, geometry, particle effects, animations and sound.
This produces unique animations and visual effects and this is done because the PS3 has so much space on the BR disc. The 360 could try, but there are bottlenecks to this technique on the 360's hardware. The 360 is actually very good at doing things the old fashioned way with notable improvements because of the USA and memexport function.
The 360 cannot do the same techniques because of the limitation of the space on the disc. Thats why designs for each console is going to change and its going to become more of a headache to make straight ports.... because it is going to be easier for users and reviewers to call out straight ports because of quality. Seperate teams and engines are just going to make ports more expensive and time consuming to make.
Better exclusives for all will come. - untzboy, on 10/10/2007, -9/+18But PSN is free....
- jostheller, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I was talking to my coworker(s) about this the other day... One of them worked at Microsoft on the 360 team before he took his position here. Anyways he told me a few things...
1. The CPU (or maybe it was the GPU) has a heatsink design which is rendered almost useless if the 360 is standing on its side... which most people do and it is how microsoft even markets it. Long story short, the heatsink is a c shape on the horizontal. If you stand it on its side then it is a u shape and keep the heat closer to the processing unit. If you set it horizontally then it will properly cool it.
2. I have read in several places on the internet that in general the heatsinks that Microsoft put on it do not adequately cool the system. I have heard there is a respin planned that will put a new chip on it that will run cooler because it is a smaller technology. I suspect they will resolve the heatsink issue with that release.
3. Another of my coworkers told me that he opened up his 360 and noticed that the fan controller was not working as it was supposed to. It was not kicking the fan into overdrive when the system became too hot to handle. He was hours away from manually fixing his 360 himself when they announced they were extended the warentee
This is all I know. For what it is worth, here is my background so you can judge my neutrality. I own a wii and PS3, and plan to get a 360 when I feel the manufacturing flaws are fixed (I am hoping it will be soon). I absolutely love my PS3 and my PSP. I think the wii is cool, but somewhat of a gimmick but it is worth owning the console for Nintendo exclusives. In my career I am a hardware design engineer. I design, implement, test, integrate computer boards, and computer chips including CPLDs, FPGA's, and ASIC's. Recently I have been even writing some embedded C code, but I am a far better hardware design engineer then a software hacker. And the coworkers that told me the above points are also hardware/software engineers. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/10/2007, -9/+18Well, on the flipside there aren't a lot of people willing to leave their Wii or 360 for Metal Gear Solid.
- username9000, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13This is not Rockstar pulling ***** from the game. Its called ADDITIONAL CONTENT.
- NSMike, on 10/10/2007, -9/+17Does that make it a less valid point?
I certainly don't think so. - A14049752, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12You are aware that most downloadable content on Live requires you to pay in addition to the Live Subscription? I think that's what he was talking about, not the Gold Membership fee.
- shinelikeitdoes, on 10/10/2007, -7/+15i like the comments that are trying to push an angle as if offering extra downloadable content is bad. the point is, you get the same game on both consoles, but if you enjoy it and want more, you will have that option on the 360. there is no negative aspect to this.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7That's a valid question. Ask me after I finish the original portion of the game. To be honest, after finishing GTA:SA, I didn't want to play anymore. But after finishing GTA:VC, I would have loved to have more content.
And the price matters too. I just paid $40 for GH:Rocks the 80s, and I feel very sensitive about prices right now. I got $10 off, and it still turned out to be a ripoff. - bilbravo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9It depends on what they sell. If they use it as an outlet to sell additional levels and missions (as has been alluded to), that's fine. It's no different than buying an expansion pack.
However, if it's stupid things like more cars or clothes, then that is a rip off. - ScrewedThePooch, on 10/10/2007, -8/+15My roommate's 360 ***** the brick, and it took over 2 months to get it fixed. In fact, I'm not sure if it even got fixed.
- Dochtuir, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12$ony?
- slimthps, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12You have to pay for the downloadable episodes.
- Synn, on 10/10/2007, -7/+14The PS3 plays games?
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Maybe, but instead of having 3-4 discs like Final Fantasy, all the games on PS2 were 1 disc.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9No, more like, for 50M, they will make their game worse on another system by not selling the DLC there. Don't act like MS did gamers a favor.
- xerus, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Microtransactions!
- TheMeatball, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8You don't have to buy the expansions. They are optional. You aren't losing out by buying the Xbox version. You simply have access to more content, should you choose to buy it.
Oh noes!!1 Choices!! - username9000, on 10/10/2007, -11/+17No more like, for 50 million I will make my game better on your system than any other.
