WHAT IS KNOWN SO FAR
- Affects mostly 60gb units, but not consistent if it's a launch system or not
- Freezes during cinematic scene but audio still continues a bit before completely locked up
- Trying the same disc on another model often results in it working
- Deleting your install does not fix the problem
- Deleting both install and save file does not fix the problem
- Hard powering off your system does not fix the problem
- Not using Dual Shock 3 does not fix the problem

My xbox red-ringed during the opening of Call of Duty 4 the first time I played it, and I have never been so frustrated in my life. Clue to Microsoft and Sony: Look, we buy consoles, and developers develop for consoles, so we don't have to deal with ***** like this. - TR41NWR3CK, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2660gb ps3 owner right here, after about 5 hours of gameplay I experienced a freeze. Its the same type of freeze I encountered a few times in Assassin's Creed. A ps3 patch was released for Assassin's Creed that fixed the problem.. no lockups since. So I am not too concerned with gta4 freeze-ups, in a week there should be a patch available.

Try working tech support for any company. The thing is, yelling is absolutely unneccesary and it doesn't help your problem get solved any faster. Unloading into a person just because they're not in the same room as you is immature, and only fills the person on the recieving end with stress. I wouldn't be surprised, however, if the people taking these calls do actually feel personally guilty for having shipped out this long awaited game only to have lock-up issues.

If they could find the specific configuration/setup that is causing the problem and replicate it, they would probably already know what is causing it and have a fix in development. Since the article is saying their techs don't know what's causing it, more than likely it's one of those extremely hard to replicate bugs, the kind the you can almost never fix, because the moon and stars have to be in just the right alignment to see the problem.
