- killbert24, on 04/28/2008, -10/+96Of course they fear change. That is what conservatives do. There will always be lame asses who want to stop the progression of society because they have illogical nostalgia causing them to believe that the past was somehow a wonderful utopia and the present is going to hell.
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -4/+49Conservatives like Hillary Clinton?
- Dan11023, on 04/28/2008, -5/+42in other news, i cant wait until Take 2 buys EA
- GregIsLegend, on 04/28/2008, -1/+28The people who criticize gaming, much like the people who criticized Elvis' hip shaking will soon be dead and the controversy will be gone. At which point you people will become what you once hated and try and ban something that will be culturally accepted by the next generation.
- random12345, on 11/16/2008, -4/+24I can't believe Hillary's ovaries haven't been hurting over GTA4 yet. I guess she doesn't want to lose the little bit of the young crowd she has.
- getbusylivin, on 04/28/2008, -1/+19He is absolutely right. These control freaks need to back off and let the market decide what is acceptable and what is not.
- inactive, on 04/28/2008, -2/+18I didn't have difficulty. The trick is reading.
- SuperSunny, on 04/28/2008, -4/+18Holy ***** this is so true
- dafunkmonster, on 04/28/2008, -1/+14Actually, I've found that AGE, not political persuasion, is a better metric by which to gauge one's feelings on video games. I've met plenty of old liberals who think that video games are the work of the devil, and I (and many of my friends) are conservatives who adore violent video games.
Please, find another platform from which to wage divisive partisan battles. - bloodwings, on 04/28/2008, -1/+14critics don't fear change, they fear not being read. they want to appeal to the masses for their own personal exposure, therefore they write what mainstream people want to hear. people want to hear that video games are bad so they can blame their bad actions, or not knowing how to raise their children, on someone other than themselves.
the formula is: people want to blame others for their actions in life, critic tells people who to blame, critic gets money.
conclusion: ignore mainstream media. - blahtastic, on 04/28/2008, -4/+16No.
Critic is a person who voices their opinion on something. Anti-gaming is against gaming. Anti-gaming critics voice their opinion against gaming.
Bad reading comprehension in the comments for this story... - Drahkar, on 04/28/2008, -0/+11I'm guessing you are a bigot.
- kinerry, on 04/28/2008, -2/+12Which makes no sense because traditionally the conservatives were the ones that believed in doing what you wanted in your own social life
- pogfreak, on 04/28/2008, -5/+14Both left and right want to back to the old days of a supreme entity that rules over the people (ie - for "liberals" its the nanny state, for "conservatives" its a theocracy). Even though the entity has changed - its the same idea of a few in charge of many! Libertarians are the true liberals who desire true change and true freedom for the individual!
- kinerry, on 04/28/2008, -0/+8Are we also forgetting that joe lieberman was the jack thompson of ten years ago?
- Rioracer916, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7I see nothing wrong with the above comment.
- SilentRamble42, on 04/28/2008, -1/+8Oh my god! That was such a good one! You totally got me. Man, that was clever of you. I just, I just can't get over it. Y'know, how you were able to come up with something so clever that you would never say without the comfort of online anonymity. Good for you. Really, I mean it.
Now go let your testicles drop. - Rosco, on 04/29/2008, -1/+8killbert24, You were making a great point right up until you made the dumb-assed Conservative/Liberal association, which is pure *****. This IS NOT a partisan issue, this is an ignorance issue. Like many above me have stated, Hillary Clinton(who Jack Thompson copied emails to frequently) , Tipper Gore, Joe Lieberman, many on the left side as well as the right have fought against games. Are you familiar with the name Sen. Leland Yee? If you are a gamer, you damn well better be, this is the next up and coming Jack Thompson, and this guy is a senator (D) from California. Next time, pull your head out of your ass before making a blind statement like that.
- orias6891, on 04/28/2008, -1/+7At the end of the day it comes down to education. When we have kids or those that already do, will know what is an appropriate game for our child to play. It's a media we're all well accustom to.
As for damaging brains, studies already show that computer games actually improve reaction times, logic and decision making. As I know that's a lot better than anything that films or talk shows provide us with. - ferrariman60, on 04/28/2008, -2/+6Amen to his accurate quote about people fearing change. Games are almost on par with Movies now for emotional involvment and story, and in some cases, are beyond them in terms of sounds and visuals. Games are here to stay, and I think that they will become more and more a tool to tell a story, like a cinematic experience, as time passes and developers and writers master this still relatively new medium. Especially since graphics are now almost parallel to real life.
And also I'm terribly excited about GTA 4. Midnight is fast approaching...... - Nevarius, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Many of the current conservatives are not traditional conservatives. Pretty much the religious right took over much of the republican party and is trying to put their collective noses into every ones social/private life's. Pretty much why they tweak on gay marriage etc, not that it will destroy families (like they show any proof or logic to how it would), but the bible says so.
Traditional conservatives are basically out-casts to their own party, and many have left/condemned it. (William F Buckley which many consider the 'Father of modern conservatism' comes to mind)
It does make sense if you keep up with whats going on within their party. Sadly their trying to combine religion and government in a sneaky bastard kind of way 'slowly and/or under another guise' which will only shred freedoms that we hold as any absolutist ideology does. - YoctoYotta, on 04/28/2008, -1/+5I know you're a Venezuelan, but I'll guess you're Mexican.
- fkr3, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4And knowing what the words mean too.
- credence, on 04/28/2008, -0/+4Says the guy on the internet w/ a lolcats-esque username.
- Fordi, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4She's a nannyist as far as game censorship goes. Yeah, it was a pot shot, but it was in line with how people view her because of her position on games.
- DarkDx, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3I hope you guys don't live in USA because if you do...
- DarkDx, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3"Need for Speed: Grand theft auto, steal cars and pimp them, get a paint job and get the hell out of there before they notice it! and best of all, did you lost in a match and don't have the money? Kill the guy!"
- insanebrain, on 04/28/2008, -0/+3yes. . we know you are.
- BingoPower, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3***** off, *****.
- ccfccp, on 04/28/2008, -1/+4I'll go out on a limb here and guess you're a *****-tard!
- PunishedOne, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3Something tells me you were denied the first GTA when it came out. I still remember that day, and remember all the hours I spent screwing around.
- mCanada, on 04/28/2008, -3/+6He's right. if you were a critic of gaming you would be a "gaming critic" , an "anti-gaming critic" implies that you are critical of the negation of gaming or as the OP stated "pro-gaming". Mind you if you're playing video games all day that distinction might be too subtle.
- Fordi, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3"You say that it is the parents decision which is 100% true but many parents have no idea what they're buying."
And... so parents shouldn't be arsed to look up what they're buying... or to just look at the ESRB rating on the ***** case, or perhaps the marketing material on it?
When a game has a review on the back that says "A spectacularly visceral gore-fest - IGN" (which is not far from some of the quotes used for the review blurbs on the back), you should realize you're not buying Mickey Mouse's Magical Queef, for ***** sake. - getbusylivin, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2For ***** sake. The issue is video games and the negative stigma that surrounds this blooming art form. But you want to talk about slavery?
You wrote - "let's see what the market has to say about the issue...".
I doubt you really even give a damn about human trafficking or you would be aware that it is alive and well in many parts of the world. Hell, slaves are a lot cheaper today than they were in 1850.
Here are some links for you, after all, you do wish to know "what the market has to say about the issue..."

- blahtastic, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2A critic is a neutral person. They offer negative or positive criticism depending on the situation, not just negative.

Like at the ***** i just wrote.
And yet my post is still better. - thestranger, on 04/29/2008, -1/+3Joe Lieberman doesn't count as a 'liberal"
- cdawzrd, on 04/29/2008, -2/+4No, he's not necessarily right. "critic" has more than one definition. Stop being retarded about it.
- jessehadden, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2The comment about video games vs. other forms of media is spot-on. Nobody minds exposing their children to a photo-realistic and endless bloodbath every day after school, or Saturday morning... and nobody seems to mind their kids being inundated with images that teach that women are sex objects... *unless* it's in a video game! Then it becomes bad!
- DarkDx, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2yeah, I like that encoder.
- Torley, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2They should take these asinine critics, lock them in a cryo capsule, and bring them back in time by a few decades. Then, they'll fit right in with regressive views, and (hopefully) not harm anyone.
- getbusylivin, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2Yes, the market will decide that also.
- N1tro, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2I remember the days when mortal kombat was too much, now this. I am looking forward to the games that make this look like nothing.
- Fordi, on 04/29/2008, -1/+3Dugg up for insight into the modern conservative dinosaur.
- NuclearWookie, on 04/29/2008, -1/+3Conservatives like Tipper Gore?
- Rioracer916, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2The little bit of young crowd she does have are impressionable parrots that will latch on to any flavor of the week crusade she decides to wage. It's a non-issue for her what they "think".
- settlesdown, on 04/28/2008, -4/+6WTF? Are you a retard? Ever heard of Tipper? She's about as liberal as they get and she's also one of the main characters who headed up the "let's ban everything I deem to be offensive" movement of the late 80's and early 90's. Were you alive then? *****. DIAF.
- BN2L, on 04/28/2008, -0/+2Met Leslie a few times. That guy knows how to party, ended up in the park early next morning playing baseball with a tin can and a shoe.
- Fordi, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2~s/inexcusable/politically indefensable/
Seeing as both men and women partake in misogyny, misarrheny, philogyny, philarrheny, etc, constantly, it seems somewhat irrational, but not detrimental to the point the guy's making in a colloquial situation.
In short, stop building mountains; he's not a politician. -
