- wafflesomd, on 11/29/2007, -0/+27The Rock Band controller kinda sucks. The solo fret buttons are cool, but the strum just doesn't give you that clicky feedback that GH's guitar does.
- Ventolin, on 11/29/2007, -16/+39Am I the only one who thinks the songs on GH1 & 2 were way better than the lineup on 3?
- garyc83, on 11/29/2007, -0/+15How about an article that lacks glaring typos?
Ugh.
Also, buried for not mentioning all the issues that the Rock Band Fender Strat is seeing right now. - jsp123, on 11/29/2007, -0/+15My guitar from Rock Band broke the first week... Anyone else's guitar only work well strumming up?
- inactive, on 11/29/2007, -2/+15Knights. Of. Cydonia.
- heiroglyph, on 11/29/2007, -0/+13Agreed on the "shame it doesn't work with GH"
But I can't stand the strum on the RB guitar. It's so mushy that you can't tell if you strummed or not.
The GH strum bar is like an IBM Model-M keyboard, loud and annoying, but extremely functional. - wafflesomd, on 11/29/2007, -0/+12Lol.
I was waiting for a retarded argument like this. - Remmiz, on 11/29/2007, -6/+18After playing quite a bit of Rock Band and coming from Guitar Hero...I'm not a huge fan. It feels sloppy and easy compared to GH. The new progress is a great idea which makes much more sense than playing down a list from place to place; but, it gets really old when you play Nirvana and Weezer 53 times because you are required to play certain "random" playlists.
The game profiles are really messed up. As it stands right now, you can't play different instruments with the same character. So if you want to switch over to drums but keep your same person, you are out of luck and have to use a friend's or create a new one.
Singing is boring, Bass is incredibly easy even on Expert, guitar is easier than GH even on expert and the drums are the only really fun part of it. If you are a Guitar Hero player...pass on Rock Band and stick with Guitar Hero. If you are a drummer or have a plethora of geeky friends, then Rock Band is right for you. - Crumbeast, on 11/29/2007, -0/+11Bandwagoning? umm... they pretty much started the whole craze by themselves.
- mv1008, on 11/29/2007, -6/+17Its a shame that the Rock Band guitar controllers don't work with the Guitar Hero games. Would've saved me so much moolah. And on top of that the Rock Band controller is amazing, i would make passionate love to it. (don't ask how)
- innocentsinner, on 11/29/2007, -0/+11If you have a regular group of friends you game with, DEFINITELY get Rock Band. It's freaking amazing and if everybody chips in for it, the price isn't that bad at all. The girls seem to like it too, although they're mostly obsessed with the character customization stuff. Not that I blame them.
- timjim31, on 11/29/2007, -0/+11that would be a dream come true
- Remmiz, on 11/29/2007, -5/+15The Rock Band guitar is horrible. The strum bar requires way too much force to hit, it doesn't click, there is a horrible grove on the side of the fret board that your thumb will dig into and the stupid preset switch thinger always gets in the damn way.
- CapeKid, on 11/29/2007, -0/+10Rock band is one of my favorite games of all time, but the guitar controller is the one weakness. It just has too little range of motion, it feels like trying to play a guitar covered in mashed potatoes.
- ShugNinx21, on 11/29/2007, -0/+8That's Rock Band's strength. Playing it solo ala Guitar Hero and you may find it easy and somewhat boring. The tracks were specifically picked so that no one instrument really had kick ass solos, that way the other band members don't have to sit there while the guitarist or whomever has all the fun.
- ShugNinx21, on 11/29/2007, -1/+9I see you're getting dugg down for your opinion, but I fell the same way except for the grove on the fretboard which I didn't notice. The strum bar was the worst tho. You can get used to it but it feels dead and doesn't give any tactile feel or response.
- Whiteknight117, on 11/29/2007, -2/+10Rock Band has better tracks, where else can you play Baba O'Riley?
- CDRaff, on 11/29/2007, -0/+7I am also a musician and I play GH and RB. I was also in the Army and play COD4. I like games because they are not real, they offer a break from real.
- Scopitone, on 11/29/2007, -2/+9Rock Band is what GH III should have been.
Also, yeah, my guitar's strummer wasn't all it should be so I contacted EA online and now they're sending me a new one for free. - JZeFF, on 11/29/2007, -0/+7Because we diddnt buy a video game system to learn to play a real instrument.... dumb ass.
- DRINKxREDxBULL, on 11/29/2007, -0/+7I got an idea, we will play COD4, but for real! Then I can kill you - for real!!!
- LooseSeal, on 11/29/2007, -3/+10Slipknot sucks.
- CapeKid, on 11/29/2007, -0/+6My brother and I both got rock band. His guitar is having the crappy guitar downward strumming problem, mine isn't yet. What is strange is that his drum sticks had the rock band logo printed on them, and mine didn't. They were completely blank. Which leads me to believe that there are two different manufacturing plants or at least two different batches of problems.
Does anyone who is having the downward strumming problem have blank drumsticks? And does anyone who has blank drumsticks have the strumming problem?
I would like to see some responses to see if my theory is right. - amyfamb7, on 11/29/2007, -1/+7My boyfriend got me GH III for my birthday, but I quickly put that down when he brought home Rock Band. Not only do I get to play guitar/bass, but I get to SING at the same time! FANTASTIC! I've yet to have a problem with any of my "guitars", but if I had to pick one game it'd be Rock Band FTW. We've invited several friends over and rocked out all night long :)
- Lou3000, on 11/29/2007, -1/+7I just hope the people at Activision realize that I would happily go buy their game sans guitar if it worked with the Rock Band guitar. I have the GH2 X-Plorer and a Rock Band Strat. Even though the GH3 Les Paul is the best guitar to play with, the fact that I already have two guitars makes it stupid to spend another $100.
Making sure the guitars work on every platform only helps Harmonix and Activision. - ZachSka87, on 11/29/2007, -2/+7Rockband is closer to actually playing an instrument (i.e. the drums) than Guitar Hero is, and I think that pseudo-realism makes it more fun.
- Rockmaninoff, on 11/29/2007, -0/+5Rock Band's guitar controller will NOT work with Guitar Hero.
Guitar Hero's controllers for the Xbox (both the Xplorer and the Les Paul) WILL work with Rock Band, without the functionality of the solo buttons and the 5-way effects switch.
The PS2 GH controller will NOT work on the PS3, even with the adapter.
Not sure about the PS3 controller working with GH3 on the PC, but the Xplorer for the Xbox 360 should. - DRINKxREDxBULL, on 11/29/2007, -1/+6Why not get both? By the time that I'm sick of the songs on RB, I'm sure I will be able to pick up a used copy of GHIII.
- doshindude, on 11/29/2007, -0/+5GHIII has that rediculous easy HO/PO timing window
RB has the GHII game engine with the real precision notes. - CDRaff, on 11/29/2007, -0/+5Being a musician I feel like Rock Band feels more genuine. I am a guitar player by trade, been playing over 10 years now, and I really like the way that RB on harder settings really tries to emulate really playing. Where as GH will add notes or a rhythm pattern that is not genuine to add difficulty.
I see the same in Bass on GH, adding notes or strange rhythm patters to make it harder. Remmiz said that Bass feels too easy. I picked up the bass about 2 years ago, and while not Les Claypool, I am a much better bassist than guitar player because it is easier. Bassists play less notes and have a less rhythmic role than guitar.
Drums are great fun on RB! I know 'how' to play drums IRL, I just can not do it. My body has trouble keeping syncopated rhythm in my hands and feet, but other than not having enough pads, and pedals, RB drums emulate real drums very well. I had to start on easy in RB, and often even failed. I am getting better now, although I would not trust my self with people around. I really want to go to a drummers place and see if I have improved on the real drums.
Singing is another story. I HATE singing covers exactly like the band, because I have a different voice. I often find myself going from my falsetto in a mid soprano range to a mid barritone because the songs have a weird range(ie Maps.) I do not enjoy singing but my cousins enjoy it, and I imagine a good singer might too. - djbon2112, on 11/29/2007, -0/+5WTF happened to my comment!?
I was saying, I love the song (Muse kicks major ass!) but I hate the chart; in some places it just doesn't flow like the actual song does. You can tell the guitarist is doing hammer-ons and pull-offs a lot during the rock out part near the end, but the chart doesn't do that, and adds all kinds of awkward notes that don't belong (the beginning following the nearly-inaudible acoustic guitar strums in the background WTF?).
And wondering when us PC GH3 users will be getting some DLC, or if there's a way to import songs into it? I'd kill for some GH2 and GH1 songs in my PC version as quickplays, as well as the boss battles *thumbs up!* - heiroglyph, on 11/29/2007, -0/+5The repetition of songs sucks. Many of the songs we just wanted to get out of the way and never play again but it forces you to play them over and over.
I think that the difficulty level in GH series progressively got artificially harder. A lot of the songs in GHRT80's and GH3 use strange 2 and 3 note chord patterns that are obviously added just to make an otherwise easy song harder.
In GH1 and Rock Band, easy songs are easy, hard songs are hard. - Rockmaninoff, on 11/29/2007, -2/+6both gamez pl0x.
- innocentsinner, on 11/29/2007, -0/+4I can't wait until Rock Band gets Muse DLC.
- fadetoone, on 11/29/2007, -4/+8IMO, the GH3 song list is MUCH better than the song list on Rock Band. I don't have any feelings concerning the comparisons to the first two. I guess that means I think they are similar.
- heiroglyph, on 11/29/2007, -0/+4Which problem? Mush or failure?
- Lou3000, on 11/29/2007, -0/+4Really? Are we still having this argument? I don't really want to join the army, but CoD4 is fun.
I play guitar and guitar hero. Amazed? - DRINKxREDxBULL, on 11/29/2007, -1/+5"The game profiles are really messed up." That has to be the worst aspect of RB. I set a up a band with my wife, with me as the drummer (as the band leader). Now the only way we can play is with me on drum, which gets really old. I wish I could play bass once in a while.
- innocentsinner, on 11/29/2007, -0/+4I really like the Rock Band guitar..in theory. Problem is that they're put together in the shoddiest way possible and tons of them have all-out failed, requiring EA to send out replacements -.- The only thing worse than a strum bar you don't like the feel of is a strum bar that doesn't freaking work at all.
- johngf2, on 11/29/2007, -1/+5huh?
- ran24, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3You're also forced to double strum in some areas, like a rapid 3-note pattern of the same note. I'm able to hit those on a GH controller all with a down strum each, but the fricking rock band controller always misses registering one of the notes. Combos break very often because of it.
- amyfamb7, on 11/29/2007, -1/+4My boyfriend HATES the clicky feedback when I play. He's constantly telling me to use the RB controller over GH III's.
- CDRaff, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3Yeah Harmonix = Guitar Hero... But I agree that I want to see another Frequency/Amplitude game.
- wafflesomd, on 11/29/2007, -8/+11No.
Story Of My Life is possibly one of the worst songs ever made, and it's in the first Tier :( - doshindude, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3well sometimes fake things are better than real things.
- nicktheawesome, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3Real guitars are for old people.
- wabbiteh, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3re jsp: This seems like a fix for that problem, though I believe it voids your warranty (which might not be worth it considering harmonix will probably be repairing them soon, seeing as how many people have been having trouble) http://www.quartertothree.com/game-talk/showthread ...
re CapeKid: There are at least two versions of the guitars - notably, some of them have extra screws holding them together (so it was probably a design change halfway through production or something). I think the downstrum problem happens with both, though. - andy17null, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3Yup, mine broke, EA will replace it. If you give them your credit card number they'll 2-day air a new controller to you, and you mail back the broken one in the same box. My drumsticks have the logo on them.
- CDRaff, on 11/29/2007, -0/+3I hate that clicking. But I also hate that if you strum the RB controller too hard it misses the note.
- Mrstupid7, on 11/30/2007, -0/+2I wish my brother hadn't stolen mine. It was the only keyboard that my hands seem to work on the best. I never double hit a ***** key on that thing.
Plus the loud clicking just made being on a computer so much cooler, and the damn thing couldn't break. -
