Rock Band hits 500 songs ahead of schedule

stevestreeting.com — When Harmonix promised at E3 that 500 songs would be in Rock Band by the end of 2008, that seemed an awfully ambitious number. But over the past few months the DLC release schedule has been going nuts, including many full-album releases.

    1. Ala cart purchasing, instead of blocks not predetermined by me.
    2. Weekly roll outs of tracks.
    Whether I like the tracks or not at least I don't have to wait months for new tracks, and can always look forward to next week. It's crazy to think that with all the tracks that they have, there are still hundreds, if not thousands of other tracks that I'd love to play too.

    They definitely need to make a single format for music/rhythm games in the future - no more paying twice to have the same song in both Rock Band and Guitar Hero!

    Other then that, its been a great ride for the entire family. Here's hoping to 1000 songs.. why stop at 500!

    i have serveral songs on my iPod that i didnt before i played the song on rockband

Maybe he's like me and sucks at rhythm games and therefore he doesn't like it, but that's not a good reason to digg him down. Is it?

They have included a lot of recognizable songs, and many of them have become favorites of mine even though I have never heard them. Of course the fact the Rock Band has the entire (minus Gonna take you Home Tonight) Boston album makes it better than Guitar Hero by default.

    And, the company behind Rock Band and Rock Band 2 were the same company that worked on Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero 2, and Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80's.

    Besides, FoF isn't nearly the quality of any of HMX's games.

    I'm actually a bass player. My view on it was I never was really interested in buying a music game, when I could just be practicing the real thing.
    I've played Rock Band and Guitar Hero at parties though and it is a ton of fun with a bunch of friends.
  • Baronvontito1, on 12/08/2008, -1/+7Frets On Fire is so buggy. The note charts are always incredibly inaccurate because 15 years olds think it's rad to make something unreasonably hard. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a good challenge, but I played a version of Stairway to Heaven that had notes where there definitely shouldn't have been. And, regardless of how solid this "update" is, the note charts are what make or break it, and in this case, they break it into tiny little pieces.

  • styx31989, on 12/08/2008, -0/+6and your opinion is fact? Because of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, I learned how to play guitar. If you were smart you would realize that it's bringing in more talent that didn't even realize they wanted to play an instrument before.

    And even for those who aren't interested, IT'S A GAME. It's not supposed to compare to real instruments.
  • inactive, on 12/08/2008, -0/+5There always has to be at least one "Oh I'm a REAL guitar player" in every Rock Band or Guitar Hero post. We get it. It's cooler to play a real guitar. But you know what? I don't have the time, patience, knowledge, musical aptitude or coordination to learn a real guitar. So every once in a while I pop in a video game and have fun with it.

    "by the end of 2008" does not mean to submit the 501st song at midnight on the 31st of december. it simply means some time before that and clearly now is some time before the end of the year.

    And Frets on Fire doesn't exactly have multiplayer support, vocals, or actual drums... sure you can hook it up but it's not same. Plus the visuals are NOWHERE close and most FoF songs are charted like ass.
