Rock Band (XBox 360/PS3) Guitar!

- yeshuu, on 10/11/2007, -23/+1kinda looks like the older guitars.....
- Tunguska, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16That's gonna be so awesome soloing on the end of the neck, then racking up a few climatic bars right at the bottom. Feel the Kirk Hammet within ye.
- nipterink, on 10/11/2007, -25/+3i still don't see the purpose of the 5 extra frets.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -2/+29"i still don't see the purpose of the 5 extra frets."
Higher notes? Solos? That's usually the use of those extra frets on real guitars. - ilyag, on 10/11/2007, -7/+12I know that a different company took over the Guitar Hero franchise, and they're doing some weird-ass crap to the multiplayer modes (power-ups and all that useless crap), but I'm still going to stick with that series over Rock Band. I'm sorry, but I do not have the $300 to shell out on all of the accessories just to enjoy the full game, and for guitar-only modes, it'll be about the same experience as Guitar Hero anyway. Plus, who wants to listen to some kid butchering a classic rock song with his Rock Band-branded microphone accessory?
I just want to play rock songs. On a guitar. In the same way Guitar Hero has always done them. I'll stick with that, thanks. - nipterink, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4@mywhitenoise :
yes, i know what extra frets do. but the way harmonix described them, and from the look of the in game fretboard, 5 frets will only be used at a time.
"You will use these new buttons during specially designed solo sections using ONLY hammer ons and pull offs, no having to worry about your strum bar."
Seems as if you just use them at special solo sections (and stop using the main ones). It's not like you will have a scrolling board with 10 frets, so unless you have read about some other gameplay mechanic, it seems like a gimmick to me. - Iknockstuffdown, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8The new guitar has tweedlies AND diddlies on it!
- Harbinger67, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7HO/PO only on the solo parts? How retarded is that. Just because it's a solo doesn't mean that you quit picking :|
- Buckiller, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3@nipter
a gimmick I would LOVE
A few times playing GH when I wanted to move down the neck of the guitar to play the higher frequencies. - Herald42, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Want to know what the extra frets are for?
One word: Eruption.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Kb1wuBFfALs - jvnane, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Yah man those high buttons (he he high buttons smoke w33d 420!) could be used for some two handed tapping just like in eruption.
- Buckiller, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11:44 in is a good example: http://youtube.com/watch?v=gilzUtOA_UI
http://youtube.com/watch?v=QjA5faZF1A8
Yeah pretty much and guitar solo ever that goes into a high note... freebird... stairway... the list is endless.
- bigbadgoat, on 10/11/2007, -44/+2maybe thats because a Gibson SG looks reasonable similar to a Fender Stratocaster.
- razmig, on 10/11/2007, -0/+22except not at all.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13What the ***** are you talking about? SG's look NOTHING like ANY Fender.
- schavira, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4...what?
- paranoidbrick, on 10/11/2007, -7/+0I've been telling people since the first guitar hero game that the controller should have five more frets and now it does and on top of that the strat looks sweet.
- logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1the extra frets aren't needed in the main gameplay they only work on solos(you can just HO/PO without strumming).
- eneshelon, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15great more ways to ***** up "sweet child o mine" on expert...
- dhVyse, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2Pfft that ***** is hard enough on hard.
- ilyag, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Are you kidding? If you already play Expert, you'd know that Sweet Child o' Mine is one of the easiest songs on that difficulty. Now if you want some truly impossible stuff, try Jordan or Hangar 18. That ***** will make your fingers fall out.
- postal21, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Im stuck on "stop" on expert. =/
- ghost116, on 10/11/2007, -45/+3digg me down, but games like guitar hero and the like are for posers. learn to play a real guitar.
- ilyag, on 10/11/2007, -3/+26ghost116:
Stop playing Madden and learn to play real football. Stop playing Wii Tennis and learn to play real tennis. Stop playing America's Army and sign up for the real thing.
Also, get lost, *****, we don't need little ***** like you in every goddamn discussion about these VIDEO GAMES. Because that's what they are. And you're just too ***** dumb to comprehend that, aren't you. - MrFatalistic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1ditto, I 5 stared sweet child, it's tough if you're not good (I'm not good, it was pretty tough) but compared to the other expert stuff, it's pie.
5 Starring STOP! is a lot harder - shdwghst457, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1no, 5 starring "psychobilly freakout" on expert is challenging. so far i'm up to 4 stars on both hangar 18 and free bird, expert.
- sinembarg0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hangar 18? There are harder songs than that. Harder songs like Six.
- jvnane, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@ghost116
I play real guitar and guitar hero. I would say that playing guitar hero isn't even that similar to the techniques required for real guitar, but they are both different and fun. - m4szyman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Jordan on expert is easily the hardest song in the game - I've five starred hard and 3/4 of the songs on expert and Jordan is the one song I cant finish. You're literally shredding solos for 5 minutes in that song, it just brings me to my knees every time I play it
- TalkingBanana, on 10/11/2007, -16/+1"Hey Bob, how can we milk gamers for more money in Rock Band?"
"Let's make a new guitar controller so they will be forced to shell out an extra 50 bucks or so instead of being able to use the Guitar Hero guitar."
"Great Idea!"- dhVyse, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2Any real fan would shell out the extra money if the extra functionality is fun. I've always hoped they would add a second row of buttons or something like that.
- Akaji, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3They've already stated that the original guitar will work, you just won't be able to get the extra functionality such as the Wah.
- mesmeriffic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Actually it won't be forced, you can use normal GH guitars for the 5 fret feature in solos.
- doshindude, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12@talkingbanana:
the original GH guitars are still compatible, they just can't do certain things.
that was confirmed a while ago. - dhVyse, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Is it just me, or does this look possibly fake? Looks like a real stratocaster with no strings, and painted buttons on it....
If it's real, thats sweet, the extra buttons on the high note part of the neck!- Protoss, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/rockbandguitar2.jpg
Looks more legit in that pic. - dhVyse, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I guess so...
- logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1EGM scans confirm it's official and likely a final prototype. There's pics of the drum controller out there as well.
- Sixcolors, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1They are legit photos... scanned right out of the pages of July's Game Informer. They just replaced the black background with white. It even states in the article that this news is a week old. "Considering we haven't seen the in-game interface, we assume these are for the designated solo sections mentioned in the Game Informer info released last week."
- Protoss, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2007/06/rockbandguitar2.jpg
- transeth, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I like the fact that you can play up an octive. I totally would shell out the extra bucks for that controller that ACTUALLY DOES look like a guitar.
- transeth, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3The "authentic" drums will end up costing $400.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -29/+5I'd rather have a Tele.
Actually, I probably wont even buy this crap. It's a great looking guitar, and the concept of starting a band with 3 other friends on your console is cool, but I think the overall execution of Guitar Hero and the like are lame. It's a lot cooler to try and learn a real instrument.- ilyag, on 10/11/2007, -3/+26Congratulations. You're "that guy". If you don't know who "that guy" is, it's the prick who posts a comment in every discussion about these music rhythm games about how they'd rather do those things for real than play videogame versions of them. So, this time, it's you. Bravo, sir. Bravo. Now ***** off.
- mywhitenoise, on 10/11/2007, -20/+1You guys have yourselves an exclusive crew where you actually label people like me 'that guy'? Holy *****, what a jack off.
Look, what sounds like the better deal? Paying $400 for the Rock Band set to play pre-selected songs, or paying $400 for an acoustic and book on chords and scales to try and learn any song you choose?
I'm not criticizing the Wii for Wii Bowling because you can go out and bowl outside...that's different, that costs money, and you can't bowl any time of the day. With a guitar you can stay indoors, just as you would playing a game. - MCHampster, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Listen: not all of us want to spend the time to learn a real instrument. This is a GAME, and just like any GAME, it is typically easier to perform than it is to do the actual thing the GAME is simulating.
And $400? Don't exaggerate just to try to make your point. That's lame.
Yes, you are "that guy". - igraham09, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10@mywhitenoise
See http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20070509
And while you're at it; shut the ***** up. - kinseyincanada, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2but someone can pick up a guitar hero guitar and be able to play it on at least easy. and have a ton of fun
- MewTwo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1ilyag, graham, hampster: You guys don't have to be such *****. Why do you have to have 10 times more malice than mywhitenoise did in his comment? Totally uneccessary, especially since he was making a valid point. Just cause you lameasses feel really cool that you're good at guitar hero doesn't mean you should be blind little fanboys for the damn game.
- MewTwo, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Hi, I'm a huge dork, and I'm going to post a link to a lameass/unfunny website to pretend that I have a real rebuttal/discussion of the topic. Then I'm going to follow it up with a "shut the ***** up" to pretend that I'm a real hardass.
- ilyag, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2mewtwo:
Shut the ***** up. - MewTwo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1ilyag: you
- TonksKC, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There are some third party controllers for GH that have the extra five frets. Though, the buttons are small and kinda annoying to use. This looks a LOT better. :D
- MrFatalistic, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1now for the bass:
http://www.milezero.org/images/i_am_waiting_to_buy_a_bass.jpg- viggenguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0oh man, a rickenbacker bass would be delicious
- cynic573, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Now how long before someone says beatmania is a ripoff of THIS? haha
- logicalnoise, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1no one because beatmania isn't very poplar in america and beatmania doesn't try to emulate anything it's just a straight up rhythm game. Difficult yes but it emulates nothing.
- alvination, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1So I'm guessing I should start saving now?
- BlackCow, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Wow, that looks almost exactly like my bass.
- vegasbright, on 10/11/2007, -11/+1Y ***** awn
- voodooatl, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1OK, I got a good deal on my fender - but it was $200. The toy should not cost even 1/2 that, for that matter the Squire line (the '51) are a lot of fun and could be had for $80 + fret job (if you can't dress them yourself). So the MSRP of $200 sounds a bit high, we will need to wait and see what all is in the package
- Balanced, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Pricing is up in the air, as the article says. The $300 price often thrown around is generally for the entire set, which includes controllers for several people... Drums, microphone, guitar, etc.
- terminalpariah, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Not to mention that they're doing away with covers wherever possible. I'm sure the record companies are running them through the wringer on licensing.
- freakygeeky, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1There was a while where the '51 was on sale at Guitar Center for $50. In my opinion, that's about all it's worth. And no, I'm got a logo snob. I play a Squire P Bass Special.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I'd argue that there's more tech in the GH guitar than in most real guitars...
- blankblix, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Oh hell yes!
- kinseyincanada, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1god damn it now i have to but the new guitar, and i know you can use the old ones, but the news ones are more badass.
- thekronz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Where can I buy this. I could look really super cool doing solos up on higher frets.
- blijack, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Gamestop says $200 for Drums, Guitar, Microphone, and Software:
http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=200345- MagikOvenMit, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2And the last time Gamestop was correct was...
- capevapor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2the volume/tone knobs and pickup selector is a nice touch, and I like the plug-in too. plus it's a fender. :)
- Skanadian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I think they should leave out the singing in this game. A pre-pubescent child could REALLY butcher some songs.
- Lazyboy0172, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1for those wondering about the extra frets:
just for rockin out or solos or such, i dont think they will be required, just to be more like a rocker
also, wishful thinking here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2sfelvHAlU
eric clapton playing Layla on the very same guitar to be featured in Rock Band (well, its real-life counterpart)
it looks perfect for this song, especially with the added frets; heres to hoping! - Urusai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wow, that game Simon sure has legs.
- Hoffer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That guitar looks awesome!! I'm very much looking forward to both Guitar Hero III and Rock Band.
- KobraKommander, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I think the concept looks fun with all the extra controllers and having your buds over to goof off with.
Only thing I don't like is the new controller I would have chosen something a little more edgy than a strat.
my top choices would have been:
B.C. Rich virgin
Jackson King V
Jackson Warrior
Jackson Kelly
gretsch white falcon- elhaf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm sure Fender had more money than any of the rest of them.
- c64plus4, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Digg me down for this..... but...... It's a toy used for a game. Everyone would be better off paying for and learning to use with the real thing (even if it is a Strat).
--Ray.
Proud owner of a '72 SG and I can solo! :)- Tippmann5150, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I didn't dig you down, mainly because I can play guitar. I have a sort of love/hate relationship with this game. I LOVE the idea of getting people interested in music and listening to actual rock music. I personally find it boring to play, i love playing real guitar more, but it is fun in a party situation.
- SillyHatMafia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0It looks really close to teh actualy Fender, it also is MUCH thinner than the Gibson GH guitars, that look liek Fisher-Price toys. I cant wait for Rock Band.
- hockey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Will they make wah pedals too?
One can dream. . .
