- inactive, on 07/08/2008, -3/+109Looks awesome, but like hell I'm gonna pay for another set of plastic instruments.
- amitlu, on 07/08/2008, -8/+114Voting Rock Band 2. The GH franchise has been a step behind ever since Harmonix went over to MTV Games and got rolling on Rock Band. Who knows what they'll have in store this time - Activision probably doesn't :p.
- FlyinWhee, on 07/08/2008, -3/+86People are so impressed by the song creation thing on GHWT, really? I mean, sounds like a fun toy and all, but let's be serious:
People who CAN make songs, probably won't. Because no matter how you tweak it in there, you're still dealing with samples, and if I've learned one thing, it's that it's near impossible to simulate guitar decently with samples. especially if your interface is a few buttons and a slide.
So aside from borderline legal, crappy covers of existing songs, we'll get crappy songs using mostly all the same guitar tones. and the same drum patterns that are available in the loop library.
And the guy that's on the verge of writing a decent rock song won't go and throw it out on a game and risk having his idea stolen by the EULA Activision will require you to accept in order to upload songs.
Rock Band 2 Here, if that wasn't obvious already. - neferiousrich, on 07/08/2008, -1/+61i'm tentatively going to stick with RB for two reasons:
1) I don't need to have 2 plastic drums sets in my living room.
2) All the RB1 songs are going to be accessible in RB2.
However, if GH:WT has an impressive showing, i could be swayed... - TsuruchiBrian, on 07/09/2008, -3/+52Rock Band is the game who's maker does NOT treat their customers like *****.
Activision (Guitar Hero 3 maker) made a PS3 guitar that would not work with Rock Band. They claimed that they wanted to make a compatible guitar, but they said that it was incompatible because of Harmonix (Rock Band creator). Harmonix disagrees but whatever it doesn't matter. When Harmonix tried to release a patch to allow people to use their Guitar Hero 3 guitars in Rock Band, Activision sued them for not paying to use Guitar Hero 3 technology.
Do not support companies that care about making a quick buck more than maintaining a loyal customer base.
I should also point out that Activision only made Guitar Hero 3. Harmonix made Guitar Hero 1 and 2 and Rock Band. - ModX, on 07/08/2008, -4/+53Rock Band songs just seem more fun to play.
- jstohler, on 07/08/2008, -2/+50RB makes GH look like a pile of puke.
- pd79, on 07/08/2008, -7/+51RB all the way!
- danmarek, on 07/08/2008, -0/+34I think what set RB apart from Guitar Hero was the fact that the developers on RB were also musicians. So, sure, guitar hero was harder, but from a musician's perspective, also didn't make any sense. I remember watching my friend play GH3 and was surprised to see chord button presses in sections where there were single notes. Often times, the notes didn't make any sense and were full of hammer-ons and pull-offs that didn't exist.
- PacoDG, on 07/08/2008, -7/+36No vocals for Guitar Hero World Tour create a song mode = fail.
- schmiggyjk, on 07/08/2008, -3/+31Mandatory comparison to real instruments in 3...2...1...
Who needs a fender strat when you can have plastic guitars! Yes! - kraetos, on 07/09/2008, -1/+25I mean, you'd see that from playing Rock Band too. I know I do...
- evil-doer, on 07/08/2008, -4/+25RB2 came out?
- dngbauer, on 07/08/2008, -28/+48GH because when I listen to the radio, I don't hear words anymore, I see GREEN, RED RED RED REEEEEEEEEEEEEED, YELLOW, BLUE, ***** MISSED THE ORANGE!
- Pillage, on 07/08/2008, -1/+17I was leaning toward GH:WT before I saw the list of songs by The Who that RB is about to release.
- adam07, on 07/08/2008, -1/+17They forgot to mention the Red Hot Chili Peppers for RB.
- crashingechelon, on 07/08/2008, -1/+17I'm going to stick with Rock Band 2. Mainly being I played games by Harmonix way back in the day with Frequency and I have more faith in them than Neversoft. Realistically though I think that GH is going to be franchised into the ground, but people are still going to buy it just because it's Guitar Hero. Since I own Rock Band, buying a standalone disc for $60 is nicer then getting a whole new band for $170.
E3 is in a few weeks anyway, lets all just wait and see what Harmonix has in store. One reason I think Harmonix will always be on top is for the fact that the developers are actually musicians themselves. - Dagny2003, on 07/08/2008, -0/+15Exactly. I'm horrified to think of what garbage the drum charts will probably be on GH. *shivers*
- w3weasel, on 07/09/2008, -10/+25And my vote goes to...
Diablo III and Wrath of the Lich King - Scopitone, on 07/08/2008, -3/+16From the article "It could all change between now and then. "
No *****! So articles like this are a little premature, blogger guy. - bdickason, on 07/08/2008, -8/+19I have to admit, the GH stuff is really wearing on me. I liked GUitar Hero 3 but the moment RB2 came out, I haven't touched it. Then again.. the RB guitar sure does blow :(
- bdickason, on 07/08/2008, -1/+11Depends how cool the track creation is, imo ;o
- AnteChronos, on 07/09/2008, -0/+9Good idea. And instead of buying Diablo 3, I'm going to go buy a real broadsword, maybe learn some simple fire magic, and start killing people.
- soundofmind, on 07/09/2008, -0/+9John Titor!
- iamjack1nthebox, on 07/08/2008, -4/+12why do i have a haunting feeling that im going to drop $300 on 2 sets of plastic instruments?
- shakin, on 07/09/2008, -0/+8Downmodded and nearly blocked for insulting one of the two most legendary guitars of all time. And this is coming from a Gibson player.
- theandy1, on 07/08/2008, -1/+9I completely agree. Besides that my tv room already looks like ***** with all the plastic instruments, I really don't need two sets.
- bdickason, on 07/08/2008, -1/+8The question is... are the high quality cymbals? Cuz I've played electronic drumkits in the past where the cymbals randomly trigger and go off which would ruin my high score!!
- badz24, on 07/08/2008, -1/+8I guess I'm the only one who has had problems with all of my Guitar hero guitars? Atleast with rock band when they broke they were willing to replace them, even if it did take a while
- SkippyDoorknob, on 07/08/2008, -1/+8Neither the GH4 or RB2 drum sets have been tested as far as sturdiness goes.
- bdickason, on 07/08/2008, -3/+10So ***** bad. I kinda like the Les Paul but I still enjoy using the GH2 explorer.
- dagooh, on 07/09/2008, -2/+9As a Wii owner after being treated like a second class citizen by Harmonix I'm choosing GH:WT.
- ginestony, on 07/08/2008, -2/+9on a completely unrelated note... that site design is pretty sweet
- inactive, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6There's one in the picture (FTA)
- BoneheadFarker, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6Do your fingers twitch at the same time too?
- idleminded, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6He's a time traveler!
- cheeseron, on 07/09/2008, -0/+6they sell the game by itself
- overkilpro, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5Diablo lll and Starcraft ll
- aphex1112, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5Gotta go for that Rock Band backwards compatible songlist.
Now I just have to hope they release it in Australia!! - nonsomniac, on 07/09/2008, -4/+9I personally am a big fan of RB, but if your only console is the Wii than you should get GH:WT. The Wii version of GH:WT will actually be full featured with DLC, unlike PS3 and 360. If you own a 360 then RB is probably your best bet as the GH guitars work with RB. The recently released GH: Aerosmith actually worked with the RB guitars (though I don't know why you would want to use the RB guitar), so who knows there may be full cross compatibility at least for the 360.
I have to admit that the GH:WT drums look great, but the drums are by far the least played instrument within my group of friends.
As fars as the song creation mode...it sounds very advanced. You cannot just upload a MP3, you must essentially use a synthesizer program for each part and no vocals. Kind of cool, but no replacement for real songs. - mnemy, on 07/09/2008, -3/+8RB for sure. I'm still pissed at GH for not allowing their guitar to be compatible with RB (PS3 version). Retarded ass move. They get sales on their guitar since the RB guitar sucks ass, and I would have bought their game since I would already have the guitars.
Unfortunately, my friend didn't do his research and bought me GH3 thinking that we'd be able to play 4 player. That junk is getting dusty in the corner taking up space.
I admit the GH drum set looks fun, but unless they make their ***** compatible, I'm not giving them any money. - bdickason, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5I have to admit, I like the IDEA of the custom song creator but at the end of the day I'd rather use a hacked setup like the PS2 which allowed (if your ps2 was modded) you to define the paths, use your own mp3's, etc. Dragonforce and some other great tracks popped up here and users tweaked the layouts via collab areas.
The game has to be OPEN if they want these things to be viable. I don't want to work within Activision's box, that's the whole reason I write music in the first place! - DaFunk, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5Exactly. People think, "man, I'm going to make some awesome tracks that sound just like Band X." If you're a professional musician using professional equipment, that might be the case, but for the "average Joe," you're not going to be able to sit down and write a song worth anything. It will be a novelty that people will mess around with but soon abandon as they realize writing songs (especially for an entire band) is a lot harder than they think.
- BrokenVisage, on 07/09/2008, -0/+5Rock Band: On 2or
- zephc, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5v-drums + ipod = win
- Andrwmorph, on 07/09/2008, -0/+4Its because the Rock Band guitar charts are realistic as opposed to Activision's BS wall of notes in every song.
- Stwo, on 07/09/2008, -1/+5Nobody has played either game yet... let's wait and see
- Jaymoon, on 07/09/2008, -1/+5Internal flash? What's that going to hold, 2 songs?
- TsuruchiBrian, on 07/09/2008, -7/+11A Wii is really not that much more powerful than a PS2. I don't think they could do a lot of the fancier stuff that was in the PS3 and XBox 360 versions. It is basically a gamecube with fancy controllers.
I have the PS2 version, should I be mad that the PS2 version wasn't as good as the PS3 version? Should I be mad that the PS2 version wasn't better than the Wii version?
Why are you so mad at Harmonix? They made the only game like this for Wii so far. Why aren't you mad at Activision for not having made one at all yet? Harmonix was the company that has been pouring their heart and soul into music related games for decades.
Why aren't you mad at Nintendo for making the Wii without HD, powerful CPU/GPU, DVD drive? Because you probably only paid $250 for it. You need to realize that if you don't by a modern gaming system, you can't expect the games to be as technically impressive as those that run on PS3 and XBox 360.
You get what you pay for. Harmonix did the best they could. You don't have to buy it. -
