- canti32, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39No. Ars Technica gets dugg up because their reviews are well thought out and written. Plus, they're usually right.
- wild, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35Maybe because they have a "Digg This" button on the bottom of every review?
Just a thought... - negativefx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17canti has it right...Ars doesn't buy into the hype and reviews a game for what it really is, not just what the title of the game is, how much cash was chucked at marketing, or which geek produced it.

What is "What is best in life?" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11PS2 is still the most popular console even with the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii being out. Games like Guitar Hero and GOW2 are keeping this sucker alive. Plus the PS2 still hasn't dropped to 99 dollars yet.
- Eallan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Finish GoW, i put it away, and picked it up to finish it before GoW two and beat it probably 2 years after i bought it. I'm so happy i beat it, it's incredible. DO IT.
- MaynardJK, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10The PSP is the only other system Sony would port a first party game to.
- EricCiccone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This game is so good! I enjoy watching my friend play it as much as I enjoy playing it.
- Extracheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I have noticed that ars is more popular on Digg...Though sites like IGN and Gamespot probably get more traffic I would question how many people would *like* them as websites, which might be why they aren't as popular on Digg. I personally can't stand the ads and all the unnecessary ads on those sites even though they have lots of information, you get the impression that they're meant to appeal for kids. You could say the same about the NYtimes, Engadget and Kotaku which are popular on Digg too. And I think Digg just picks up anything on those sites and just runs with it, i.e you can see that pretty much every major article on sites like Engadget, boingboing and consumerist gets dugg.
- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Finish the first one. What makes it great is not that anything is revolutionary about it, just that it's done so damn well. But if you find that you still don't really like God of War after you finish it, don't worry, you're still human despite what anyone here says. God of War II isn't just "more of the same", but if the first one wasn't your thing, you're not gonna feel much different about the second.
- spoiled1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The game is a beauty.
- illahtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think Ars just has a little more geek-cred than IGN, GameSpy, or some the other major review sites that cater to 13 year olds who want cheat codes. And I actually see 1Up dugg quite a bit.
As for GoW, the first one pre-sold me on this game ages ago...good to know the reviewers are saying it won't be a crap sequel! - im2emo4myshrt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I am almost defiantly going to buy this, but I am a little annoyed that he said the puzzles were cliche. I love it when games have cool puzzles, like the first God of War had a few that just made you feel good when you realized wtf to do next.
- RichOfTheJungle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That was a whole string of words

"Yes, there is another sex minigame. Get your Kratos on."
Right on. - spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Is this game better than the first? Would you recommend GoW2 to someone who didn't necessarily enjoy the first one?
I've owned GoW for several months and it can't keep my interest long enough for me to finish it. I like the presentation but the gameplay feels very rehashed and done to death, like Prince of Persia (the first one for DOS and Mac) meets Rygar (the ancient arcade game, not the remake which I haven't played). - Apeezee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am almost at the end of GoW2. I played GoW1 through at least twice. When i first rented GoW1, i played it non-stop until i finished it, i think i was up for like 18 hours or something. GoW2 has yet to disappoint. I think it is far and above better than the first one, all of the things that generally pissed me off about the first one, have been altered just enough to make it a better game in the second edition. It is rare that i will be playing a game and my roommate's girlfriend will just sit there and watch and say things like "Wow, that was awesome!" Mind you, she is a hippie and does not by ANY means play videogames. She remarked it as "looking like a movie" when i was playing. That is a rare thing, it is a great game, and i suggest anyone with a PS2 to put down guitar hero and go get this game. :P This title is one of the last great games for PS2, now that guitar hero will be shipping for 360 in like a week or two, can't wait for mine! :)
- negativefx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2good thing you haven't played the remake of rygar...it's scary how similar the fighting system in that game is to gow.
- offspring06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm currently playing GoW2 and it is awesome. I liked the first game but this one is better.
- Goken, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I liked this game but my only beef with the game is the way the story played out.
First off, if Kratos was to go back in time to the time of his betrayel, why would he go back at the moment Zeus kills him? Why not go back far enough to push kratos out of the way of that giant roman statue? Or why not go back far enough to warn himself of Zeus betrayel? Stuff like that. - jayhawk88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Girlfriend emails me this morning at work

That's Gods way of telling you to marry her. - Kallius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1GoW was good, GoW2 was fantastic. What I really liked about #2 wasn't the better graphics, great story, or the combat system being at least as good. No, the one thing I really liked about #2 over #1 is that in #2, there aren't any "instant-death" puzzles. #1 seemed to be full of lame "walk the balance beam" puzzles that if you got knocked off or misstepped, you died (including one near the beginning). The spiked pillars near the end of #1 were particularly grueling, and the sheer difficulty (for me, anyhow) somewhat ruined my enjoyment of that game. But #2 took everything they did right in #1 (which was a lot) and fixed the few things that needed to be fixed.
- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Put down Guitar Hero? Preposterous!!
*headbangs* - duddles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1She didnt wait for you? Dump her!
- napinsa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My PS2 broke too, I have to open up (psh warranty =p) and mess with the gear that sets the distance between the laser and the disk to get it to play God of War and most other games unfortunately.
And i find that i save a lot of money not buying the latest and greatest games that comes out, WoW only costs 15$ a month and it gets updated all the time. - ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2While the obvious hatred of any semblence of PS2 opposition is clear by the diggdown, I haven't "forgotten" about my PS2 because I think it's a bad gaming console, I've forgotten about it because it broke. Period.
If it hadn't, I'd be all over this. - Owange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amen brother. I really tried to like GoW. The presentation was phenomenal but the gameplay just did nothing for me. I resold it after about 4-6 hours into it.
- sobe86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't relate to this at all, I thought the gameplay in God of War was inspired. If the gameplay in GoW wasn't enough to keep you interested for the whole thing, what game was?
- Drewsky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0man this game made grab some Tylenol because i stay up 18 hours playing it

"It seems any game with the acronym "GoW" is sure to be a winner."
Good thing there isn't a game called "Garden of Wombats" otherwise that statement would be heinously incorrect. - imikedaman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"No. Ars Technica gets dugg up because their reviews are well thought out and written."
And yet they don't even mention if the combat system itself is more balanced than the first game. My main beef from the first game is that the combat was horribly unbalanced - if you had magic or knew how to press L1+X and mash the O button you could absolutely DOMINATE the entire game, but if you were facing an enemy that was immune to that combo and you were out of magic you were in for a long, hard, and tedious battle with an enemy that has way too much HP.
I remember one time I was stuck in a room with a single Cerebus dog without Poseidon's Rage, and I had to repeat [ ]+[ ]+∆ and O for three straight minutes to kill it. If I had PR available he would have died in two seconds. Satyrs were the same way.
...but hey, the graphics are pretty, right? The other reviews didn't mention that! - crossers, on 07/21/2008, -0/+0Is this strategy game?

- masskurec, on 03/03/2009, -0/+0actually it is wine and roses
http://xptweak.net - dennyn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This game will be amazing no question about it, probably better then gears, since gears was over rated, and ***** the Wii just to get that out there.
- spoiled1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1hmmmm Ars Technica doesn't sound right ... can't point to whats wrong with it... the word Ars .. doesn't sound right .... what could it be?
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"...in just a few minutes of practice you can pull off some sick combos..."
People REALLY need to stop using that word. - TheSeraph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Loved the first!!!!! STILL play it. Can't wait to explore the 2nd. PROOF that quality games can be made without fancy pants graphics.
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I honestly don't care that God of War has a button-mashing-friendly combat system. I don't have the patience to learn combos and *****.
- YouRookies, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1You are a rookie. The difficulty in GoW was perfect. GoW2 better not have turned noob friendly.
- dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I'm a 360 owner and G(ears)oW fan. I've been sucked in by the original GoW on PS2 just recently. It seems any game with the acronym "GoW" is sure to be a winner. have at it!
- cockmaster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1no
and stop using exclamation points - Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Who cares if you LIKE the site... they are sites whose purpose is to review electronic games which they have been doing for years. I often disagree with reviews but thats anyones perogative. I fail to see how much more credibility arstechnica would have over a dedicated review site like gamespot or ign.
A more sensible way to approach reviews would be to link to an aggregation site like metacritic or gamerankings then let everyone fuss over the average. - wild, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1In other news, Wild steals punkdemons girlfriend...
- ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1I didn't realize it was a Sony game as well. So much for that. And probably so much for GoW3 as well. :/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Why the ***** is a review of a game that has been out since March 13th and reviewed a thousand times make the front page again???? Rigging the dig vote?
- ringo380, on 10/12/2007, -18/+2I've long since forgotten about my PS2. I really hope this gets ported to.. something. Something besides the PS3, that is.
Does anyone who has actually kept up with the development and news surrounding GoW2 know anything about future plans for it? Or am I just going to end up waiting for GoW3? - boing11, on 10/12/2007, -45/+13Why is it, that every time ars technica posts some review it gets a lot of diggs? There's is just one more opinion out on the internet ... among hundreds of game review sites. Nothing against ars technica, but I find it odd that you never see gamespot, 1up, IGN, Gamezone, or any other major reviews get dugg the way ars technica's do.
I'd put money down that ars technica has a bunch of people who all are involved with the site immediately digg any review they post on digg. And then once they get enough "primer" diggs, a bunch of diggers in true sheep fashion follow suit and digg it as well.
Amirite?
