- jacksons98, on 11/10/2008, -9/+63Except that 360 doesn't have games like Resistance 2 that support 60 players online. Big online games is something PS3 does better than X360. Resistance 40 players, Warhawk 32 players and both with big communities and lag free.
- Zamfir, on 11/10/2008, -6/+57...and FREE :)
- littlelives, on 11/10/2008, -6/+45Why so much hate on here? Every positive comment is getting dugg down.
The game itself is solid. Nothing mindblowing, but it isn't trying (too hard) to be.
The great part about it is the online infrastructure. Lag free 8 player co-op / 60 player online based around a decent game?
60 bucks well spent for me. - inactive, on 11/10/2008, -10/+40Not a fan of the PS3, but I got to admit 60 players and lag free is impressive.
- frostydf2, on 11/10/2008, -3/+32I'm not going to try and sound fanboyish, but I have been playing R2 since it came out. What you say about having large games with no communication, no teamwork, and makes the game worse overall is not true. I am surprised at how well the coordination of objectives is in large 60 player matches in R2. Even most reviews state that they are also surprised that people actually do what the objective implies (because that's how you get exp).
I would really urge you to try and find a friend who has R2, and try out the 60 player online, it's quite fun, and coordinatd. - jacksons98, on 11/10/2008, -7/+35That's false... They have already taken games down on Xbox 360. Go try getting a game going for Madden 06 and see what happens. The only thing you are paying for with Live is more Microsoft profits.
- Ljay90, on 11/10/2008, -3/+31They actually handle it really well. They break down the 60 players into 5 man squads, and you can only talk directly to your squad. For straight deathmatches, you really don't notice it. It stands out on the skirmish mode, where each squad is given an objective and they complete the objective for points, and normally the objective pits them against another squad, whether it's for control of a point or an assassination, you get the idea. And combine that with the risk of getting caught in a firefight between two other squads, it's a beautifully chaotic experience.
- Infidelcastr0, on 11/10/2008, -5/+29Resistance 2 kicks ***** ass, though I found the split-screen co-op implementation somewhat disappointing.
- Ruken, on 11/10/2008, -1/+24Nothing beats split-screen co-op! On my HD display the screen doesn't get too squished at all, but more importantly for me is you actually get to hang out with your friends while you play. What would Rock Band be with only online multiplayer?
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -2/+24the ninjajesus, you don't have to play the 60 player battle everytime, you can play 8, 16, or 32, from what i remember from part 1
- staticneuron, on 11/10/2008, -3/+24Because the most ardent of fanboys get real offended each time a great title hits the competitors console. Thats why you see such bashing on both gears of war 2 and resistance 2. The truth is, both games are visually impressive and they accomplish the paths they set down. The titles are similar but not the same so they cannot be judged in comparison but they have to be measured on their own. After beating both over the weekend I have nothing but respect for Epic and Insomniac.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -3/+23I was playing campaign, and then came across the whole city on fire across the river. I stopped for a second, looked around in amazement. I was surprised how many things were in the screen that are part of the game, like dropping of reinforcements etc.
- analbumcover96, on 11/10/2008, -3/+22R2 does look good.. i have to admit ill probably buy it...
but my god Killzone2 beta is great - frostydf2, on 11/10/2008, -2/+20And neither of those games did it correctly like Insomniac has. I'm not going to say everything is perfect with their system, but they do make a 30vs30 game have plenty of coordination going on.
- Oronar, on 11/10/2008, -3/+20Warhawk too. :)
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/10/2008, -2/+18You realized you could have learned all that about the 60 player games by reading the article, right?
- superterrorizer, on 11/10/2008, -10/+26Resistance 2 is pretty awesome. it's my favorite shooter so far. And yes, Large matches actually are quite fun. I'd love to see it hit the status of the great Halo and the very underwhelming gears, but hey, at least I'm having fun playing it.
- BadseedJR, on 11/10/2008, -3/+19Umm, COD4?
- PopASquatt, on 11/10/2008, -2/+17Jesus H. Christ people! Every Resistance article that reaches popularity are full of moronic ***** that just rip down the game simply because it's on a console they don't own. Go ahead play Gears, I don't ***** care, ill play Resistance because I like the game and I own a PS3.
- andydumi, on 11/10/2008, -2/+17Thats because none of those predominantly rewarded satisfying those goals.
This does. And going for most kills or straying from your squad and your goal wont net you top player as in those other games.
Play it first. As Frosty said, it is surprising how well people coordinate, with or without headsets. - etruscan, on 11/10/2008, -2/+15Different strokes for different folks. Gears 2 looks better at first glance, I think. It has a better initial impact. Resistance 2 has a much better online component, though... and I think it will outlast Gears 2 because of it. It's tough to compete with Gears at all because of the larger pre-installed fan-base, given the 360's dominance and tenure in the marketplace, but overall I'd have to give it to R2 this time around.
- etruscan, on 11/10/2008, -4/+16MGS4, SOCOM, and let's not forget the first Resistance.
...the PS3 was much maligned at the beginning because of the hefty pricetag and the lack of launch titles, but that's all history now. I have a lot more fun with online play on the PS3 than I ever did with the 360, mostly because I find the community to be a little more mature... but also, I just like the PS3 controller - that's my personal preference.
Some may prefer assymetrical controllers and underaged griefing little bitches. To each their own! - leif777, on 11/10/2008, -10/+21PS3 just keeps getting better and better... their games, PSP connectivity for games and video, PS store, improved and still free online play, regular firmware updates and blueray player features puts them way ahead of the 360 as a better console in my books.
I mean, really, what does does the xbox360 have that PS3 doesn't have?... price, bigger library and xboxlive? you're getting a way better bang for your buck, PS3s library is getting bigger and better and live is laggy and you have to pay for it. I donno, xbox fan boys prove me wrong I'm all ears. - InnerBlueAbyss, on 11/10/2008, -9/+19You go ahead and enjoy your brick, ill be playing on my functioning PS3, thanks.
- danwallace, on 11/10/2008, -5/+15Resistance 2 is ***** awesome. The haters need to ***** off and go play gears of war.
- staticneuron, on 11/10/2008, -3/+12No, because R2 is not squad only communication. It has squad, and team communication and proximity based chat.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+9the argument you're starting has been beaten to death dude
- FuZi0nDET, on 11/10/2008, -2/+11For the most part I'm a big fan of the new Resistance. There are a few things I don't like about the ranked set-up, the biggest pain is that at least 60% of the games I've played haven't been even. Most of the time games are + or - 2 players, which is annoying. It happens frequently where people will get stuck 8 vs 4. Then every one but one guy quits, if they can fix this I'll be happy.
On a side note what is up with the extra perks that higher ranks get? Some guys ranked at Sgt. and higher seem to take way more damage then a PFC. - iRoy, on 11/10/2008, -3/+12***** this RESISTANCE 1 was a blueprint if any, what a damn great game. They just "ratchet"ed up everything like parties and clan support etc. etc. R1 was so good even games that followed like COD4 failed to emulate all of R1's online features and the stability of its servers.
I wish I could be enjoying R2 (I rocked the hell out of the beta) but my launch 60GB PS3 recently failed on me (Yellow Light)... Can't wait to play R2 though the online beta was the best beta I've played thus far. - etruscan, on 11/10/2008, -1/+10I'm not sure why that happens... maybe a fear of having chose the "wrong" console. I'm glad I went with a PS3, but Gears 2 makes me wish I had my 360 again... and I can't understand why people would attack the other. That's how you know it's actually a good game, when the opposite side relentlessly belittles it.
- SilverSeraph, on 11/10/2008, -0/+9Good point! misterAsshole.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 11/10/2008, -2/+10Thanks for the input. I'll file that under "W" for "Worthless opinions never to be taken into consideration."
- BestJaxx, on 11/10/2008, -0/+8@TheNinjaJesus: BoonTobias pointed out that you can play smaller matches, but there isn't even any need to. The large matches are far from unorganized, and are a lot better than you would expect. Also, you mention headsets...let's just say the headsets have their pros and cons.
- FredFredrickson, on 11/10/2008, -2/+10Some devs, like EA, host games on their servers. Most 360 games let players host, however.
- TheNinjaJesus, on 11/10/2008, -3/+11Yes, because you playing on a PC somehow makes you "l33tsauce"? I bet you have pussy just lined up.
- grat2001, on 11/11/2008, -1/+8And while bejayel is playing those, I'll be playing WipeOut HD, SOCOM, Motorstorm PR, some Bioshock DLC, and top it off with my Killzone 2 beta (fun as hell!).
- JayD16, on 11/10/2008, -0/+7wat?
- apena89, on 11/11/2008, -0/+7The official PS3 blue tooth headset teabags anything the xbox360 has. GG.
- staticneuron, on 11/10/2008, -0/+7No, you actually get damage perks in R2.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -2/+9Sony games can peer to peer as well, COD4 does...
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -2/+9Yes, i do watch movies, in real 1080P, not just upscaled 720. I will also be playing my excellent games like resistance 2, LBP, Guitar Hero, Rock Band and others.
- apena89, on 11/11/2008, -0/+7Plus you are put into squads within the teams, each squad has their own objective to help the overall team.
THAT's where Resistance 2 does it amazingly. Do your research before you bash the PS3 and its games. - ttate90303, on 11/10/2008, -3/+9Played R1, Played R2 Beta, Playing R2. Good stuff - 8 player co-op is a great challenge.
- apena89, on 11/11/2008, -1/+7And while grat2001 is playing those, I'll be playing LittleBigPlanet with all my friends via the FREE PSN.
:D - kjones555, on 11/10/2008, -1/+7Resistance 2 is insane! I love Halo online, but R2 is a great replacement. The 8 player co-op play is insanely fun and the 60 player competitive multiplayer is nuts in a good way. This game is worth $60 just for the multiplayer alone. And joining games is very easy. If every PS3 game uses the system Insomniac used for R2 and combine that with HOME, the PS3 could be just as good if not better than Xbox Live. Xbox fans, don't shoot me.. X.x
- TheThirdWheel, on 11/10/2008, -3/+9Have fun playing Gears of War and Resistance on your PC, oh wait...you can't. I'd rather have auto aim than no games.
Some could argue that the Wii has the best control set-up out there, but does anyone actually play it after the fun of Wii Sports wears off? - gamerzworld, on 11/10/2008, -3/+9Halo 3 has flawless multiplayer? Have you been smoking something?
- xelloss, on 11/10/2008, -2/+7Its better to have the option then not. Most games I don't really want to play single player anymore, coop is where its at. I think almost every game should be 4 player coop min.
- mobislink, on 11/10/2008, -2/+7Great game period. Is it better than Gears 2? That is subjective and you can answer that for yourself. I will say that most people either have a PS3 or and 360 and not both. So most people will never know which one is better for them. This includes me. I would love to play Gears and suspect that I would enjoy it but it seems like a completely different experience than Resistance.
- Sornos, on 11/10/2008, -5/+10I've been following this game a bit. I have a 360 and I can't exactly afford a PS3, so I'm going to miss this one. Looks fun though. The co-op mode looks excellent. Cheers to those who can play it.
