- tombomb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its been proven time and time again: It isint the hardware which sells consoles, its the software. Gamecube had a good system (argubaly more powerful then $ony's) but they didn't have the killer apps. to back it up. It has not had the market share that nintendo hoped because they could not get any good 3rd-party software. The PSP would have been good, but a lack of good games is really hindering it. The DS has a lot of solid games and is outselling the PSP (price played a part too, but Software is a big part, in my opinion)
- Mysk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This just in: PS3 to ship with cerebral interface, quantum processors, use crystal storage devices. Will also launch with Duke Nuke'em Forever.
/doesn't believe anything about the PS3
//didn't RTFA - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Stop with the ***** rootkit stuff. This has been explained multiple times, SCE and Sony BMG only have their names in common, nothing else. They have the Sony name, but that's it. The Sony Computer Entertainment company is really good, lead up by good people.
As for the story, I think that it's obvious that the PS3 will have a hard drive. For all the things they're promising, a hard drive is a requirement - BBX25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Okay. According to Sony, the PS3 will have:
-A strong GPU
-A Blu Ray Drive
-PVR/TiVo features
-Media Centre Features
-Large Hard Drive
-Online Service
PS3 to cost $3000. Oh, and it plays games too. - mc1123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thats good. originally they said it would just come with a 2.5" SATA port on the back.
- Pooavenger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah big news......................
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If the PS3 acts as a computer also then how would Sony prevent you from buying the PC version of a game on the PS3?
- TKEG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2this just in-- PS3 to have controllers!!!!!!!1
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well of course it's going to have a hard drive, since it's supposed to act as a computer as well.
- ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can I play games yet?
- xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Didn't they say they will have a HDD, but you will not be able to run games off of it, just for media and to save game files, no MMORPG or extra download content to be used for games, but Time will tell.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Engadget today also reported that more of their stories end up on Digg.com after they are posted than on any other tech news related site.
- Maajid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0These stories are getting repetitive. As the first comment suggests, Sony BMG and Sony Computer Entertainment are two seperate divisions - is that so hard to understand? I would think not.
- iloveazngurlzs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0PS3 my guess is they are actually stock pilling these bitches, Sony waitng so long to release the PS3, the only smart thing to do especially by keeping everyone in the dark, is to stock pile it. why ***** up like microsoft did TWICE!!!!!! Enough of this adding to the hype crap, we just gotta be patient and then if its not out in spring ***** it...
- merdeisel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0PSP has all kinds of features but theres one problem... THERE IS NO GAMES! hopefully the PS3 doesnt revolve around features and gives us something good to play.
- vagrantradio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not news.
- GhostFreeman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Would it be possible to network the PS3 to a conventional SMB/CIFS machine and use it as additional storage space?
- Dradien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nyxero, you sure are an intelligent one.
- Andrew12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"PSP has all kinds of features but theres one problem... THERE IS NO GAMES! hopefully the PS3 doesnt revolve around features and gives us something good to play."
You guys didn't like infected, wipeout, lumines, medievil, or battlefront? - megsme85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0PS3 to have hard drive ... will it have affordability? Availability? Developer support? Good games?
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if sony delivers on most of these rumors... i'd sell me left nut to buy a PS3... but as for now my Xbox 360 is delivering every day...
- cr4wley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0NEWSFLASH!
PS3 TO COME WITH A POWER SUPPLY

I've seen the original article before. I chose not to read it because it sounded boring. The commentary however pointed out something useful that would otherwise have been overlooked. The Poster did right to link where he did.

Go ask the people who played Star Wars Galaxies. :-P - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
I'll buy a PS3 when they add a COWBELL - oyourmom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i dont really *fracken* care, i only pay 40 bucks for my 300gb western digital hd's anyway. and yes i do have Battlestar Galatica on them...
- Crazy_8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"who cares if it has a hard drive? it's still gonna get rocked by the x360.
Sony = DEAD
PS3 = DEAD"
---
...Do people even listen to what they say these days?
Sony isn't "DEAD", and they are not going to die. Same for Xbox360. Its far from dead, and certianly isn't going anywere. Saying that any of the 3 companys are "DEAD" or dieing is just stupid beyond all imaginable belief. - Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0*insert obligatory ROOTKIT!!11! flames here*
Just getting that out of the way, hopefully the idiots see it's already been done, so they don't start. I wish. - Xipher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"sony's logo:
"Sony, overhyping, underdelivering""
Um... this is Sony's logo: http://sony.com/i/hdr_logo_sony.gif
I don't see why everyone is saying Sony overhypes stuff, they have barely said anything as of late about the PS3, it's the media and the gamers speculation that fuels the hype. - TheRappingShoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0*insert rather clever, humourous, yet still cynical and knowing comment here*
- dielawn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0sony's logo:
"Sony, overhyping, underdelivering" - 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The PS3 looks to be a beast. I'm sure it'll have more games than the PSP. I just hope that it manages to strike the right chord and the loser sentimental video gamers who'd rather play asteroids all the time don't ruin it.
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i don't know why sony can't realize how important internal storage is!!!
for example the PSP would be 10000x more popular if it had a HD or flash memory built into it. (1-4GB) that would be amazing because it is much cheaper for them to do that and people would be willing to pay even $50bucks more. If they did do that that would immediately kill all ipod video sales. The PSP would have speakers/headphones, good amount of internal storage, and wifi for Internet access.
http://www.SkatterTech.com - Xipher, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I'm with Lumiras, sure they have the same name, they are seperate divsions. Just because one line of Chevrolet vehicles have a recall, doesn't mean that it's another GM brand say Pontiac's fault.
- weirdone, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0sad because i know this crap will make it to front page and just add even more to the hype train
- Ian_Dass, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Lumiras you are mistaken. They both fall under the same Corporation of Sony and therefore answer to the same stockholders.
Keep your head in the sand about their DRM policies if you want, but I'll wait to see how responisibly they control the content i purchase before i drink the sony koolaid.
since you seem to know the sony leaders personally, say hi to sir howard for me.
and yes it will probably have a hdd and a gps system and a [insert marketing hype]...hopefully soon we will have some real specs and a price point. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0who cares if it has a hard drive? it's still gonna get rocked by the x360.
Sony = DEAD
PS3 = DEAD - Ian_Dass, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Great...more speculation. The real question is will the rootkit come preinstalled or do i have to do that myself?
