http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/195/62/ - ditoa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27The touchscreen on the DS makes this useful for actually remotely using a PC though, PSP would be good for monitoring but actual use with be painful. Not knocking the PSP though. I love all games consoles :D
- Pottersquash, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28Wow, why doent Nintendo and Sony advertise this fact??? This should come standard out of the box,
- akostic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20VERY cool. Another reason to buy a DS. :)
I haven't bought a console in 5+ years, but this and the mario sidescroller will make me buy the ds. :) - sgstair, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Thanks to engadget/etc incompetents, everyone seems to have this wrong. The DS wardriving application is part of the test app I devised to test the ds wireless library, It doesn't help that since I released the source for that app, most of the homebrew for DS that uses wireless presently merely uses my test app as a base, without bothering to clarify or modify it in any way. As such, while the ds2key app does include the wardriving capability, it originated in the wifi test app - see http://www.akkit.org/dswifi/
[/rant] :) - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13No kidding. I've always been baffled by the opposition to homebrew software. To me, it just makes the hardware that much more appealing. It'd be like Dell trying to keep you from using OSS and freeware on their PCs.
- GameCop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13The app used in those pictures is not the only one that can allow you to remotely access your computer using the Nintendo DS.
There is a 2nd app as well called Win2DS, it can be located on the same site:
-> http://www.1emulation.com/forums/index.php?showforum=89
Some say its even better than PointyRemote (app used in the pics), but that's for you to decide.
Or if you want to see all the other apps available for the Nintendo DS using Wifi...
-> http://www.1emulation.com/forums/index.php?showforum=81
All these apps are a derivative of DSWifi by SgStair (Stephen Stair) who cracked the Wifi capabilites in the Nintendo DS not too long ago.
Have fun! :-) - vapb400, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Then they would end up getting sued somehow by a person who didn't take proper security precautions and ended up getting hacked.
- ivc-, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10There's also a DS Wardriving and Windows Remote Control application on that site, called DS2Key, http://www.1emulation.com/forums/index.php?showforum=88
- Destinatus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Another reason to get the sexy new DS Lite, sweet
- johnoneal, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12time to add a DS to my list of toys
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Also cool is Linux running on the DS. Some links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DSlinux
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_DS_homebrew - sinner0423, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's basically a proof of concept - you wont be controlling random systems with it, it needs a server to be installed beforehand. Think of this as VNC for the DS, in beta form. It's slow, bug ridden, and prone to packet loss.
It got a digg from me because it's cool, although, it lacks any sort of practical use at this point. - Magreger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Someone help. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't read one thing on that page explaining how to do this. Everyone seems to talk about it like it's commonly understood. Not one dude saying, "How in the hell do you do this!". That's me
- Foma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Console makers are against homebrew because they don't make their money on hardware. All their profit comes from licensing games, which is why they are so invested in preventing ways of people getting a free ride by using their hardware to run unlicensed software.
- D4RKfantasy, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14Oh Snap, Im buying a ds now...
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -27/+31but, unfortunately, you cant play good games
- lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Has anyone heard of a project anywhere to broadcast homebrew games to a ds like what you can do with Mariocart DS? I heard of Nintendo having a kiosk somewhere that would let you download a metroid game to your ds to play while you were at the access point.
I think that is the most promising thing the DS has to offer. You could just run the DS server on your computer and broadcast the signal with WiFi. The server would serve up home brew games and apps like this so you wouldn't need a cart. Putting the applications on a cart is a real barrier to homebrew adoption, but a homebrew server could make things really slick.
If anyone has heard of such a project, email me at lane dot montgomery at gmail dot com. I'd be willing to donate to it. - enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3^^ I concur. Everyone seems to be saying "oh awesome!" and "This rocks". I still don't understand how its done. Can someone please point to a page that explains HOW to set this up?
I digg, but c'mon...throw me a friggin bone here... - rmccabe916, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Opera and my computer on the DS??? I want one now!!
- devoinregress, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8It looks like he is 13 or at least his friend is says the tags.
Smart kid. - jdivis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I can attest to this first hand as well. Saw my friend turn up the music on his computer which was in the other room while we were sitting there playing Mario Party... I love technology that enables Links (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0738206679/002-4023199-0033636?v=glance&n=283155)
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Haha I had to chuckle when I read parent.
- SoulMaster2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Neat, people always seem to push the limits of the DS and PSP, I've been using a similar program for the PSP quite often, like starting torrents when I'm downtown or something, here's the link to the PSP version if anyone is interested:

Very welcome digg.. doubleplusgood. - heyimlance, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ya it appears to be in its early stages, but being able to bring your ds with you on the go, check your email, calendar, utorrent, and browse the web without having to buy the software opera browser?
I really hope that this becomes a robust solution for the things i listed, i would bring my ds everywhere, all you need is a free hotspot and there are mcdonalds on every block for that. - Trianth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6sorry, this is probably a stupid question, but what exactly does it do? just shows your monitor on the ds screen? can you control your computer by using the ds???
- heyimlance, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Anyone know of a good spot to get information on running homebrew stuff on NDS in general? Link to a flash cart / movie player thing to buy? +Digg this
- monkeymad2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3damn, that's cool, shame i dont use windows nor have a passme type device....realllly dugg.
The guy seems to like pies....yummy.. - o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't you mean it 'never' ceases to amaze you?
- VSKBadCRC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm really looking forward to the future development of this kind of software, it'd be nice to see it made to be easier to use for those of us who might not want to invest in all the copying devices one needs to do this. Oh well, I'll probably end up picking up some of the blank GBA carts and try this myself sometime in the future.
- theragu40, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To be fair, Nintendo actually does make money off of their systems. Thus they don't necessarily "fight" the homebrew crowd, especially on the DS. If they were really trying to stop it, they could have done so. It's more of a passive "let it happen if it happens" kind of approach.
- LordofChaosIori, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4This is the last straw, as soon as the DS lite comes out I'm selling gallons of blood to get one. I can't wait to see what the Revolution is capable of either. Awesome! Digg ++
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It sounds like you're talking about Wifime, which can be used with original firmware DS'es to wirelessly transmit games from a PC to a DS. It's kind of old news by now.
- dtrinh, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Wait - is this a DS VPN client - or does it simply let you view whats on the desktop.
If it only lets you see whats on the desktop - I'd see very little reason to use it. However, its very "DS Opera Browser" like :P
The whole / big picture on the top screen / magnification on the bottom. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If he prefects it so you can connect to a regular vnc server then you can connect to a unix/linux vnc server and use the ds as thin client. may not have the greatest resolution but would be nice to have a little fun with it.
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3wait, so what hardware do we need? I already have a DS but I'm not exactly the type of person who runs homebrew :-s
- kenplaysviola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I downloaded the application and this is what his readme.txt file says (this is HIS spelling and grammar, not mine):
"to use it ull need an ap [access point] , and the server [server.exe] running on the host computer
configure your ap as u did on wifi ds test, when you are connected, press the udp test button
and thats it, it'll look awfull, but it works....
press A to use a zoomed view of the screen
press B to se the gral view of the screen
while in zoom mode, u can do clicks with the stylus, and while in gral mode, u can select wich portion of the screen zoom
to send text, press select ( is return)
if the text is not send, u can repeat the last sent text with LEFT trigger" - jonin85, on 12/22/2008, -0/+0wow great!! very nice..come and ding it.can also remote pc here
http://remote-pc-anywhere.blogspot.com - TheFjatKid, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5+Digg! This rocks. This is just another reason why DSes rock.
- heyimlance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I believe something like this is what you need to get started, and there are other things on the site.
http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=252&products_id=3983& - KevinJ, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4How is this done? Wat do I need to purchase and how do I configure? The readme was useless
- besouza, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I'll hold out for the DS lite.
- galaxykidgamma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0has anyone actually used this? i have and it's terrifically useless. i'll wait for the opera browser and remote my pc with that thx.
- chewbaka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I agree. I've only just realized how much smaller and damn sexier the lite looks in comparison to the original DS.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ds_lite#Gallery
Especially in this pic:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Basic_DS_comparison.JPG
Anyone else think it almost looks like a mac laptop? - jenor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hi,
I'm interested in purchasing a nintendo DS and was wondering does it have the capability to be used on a PC. For example such as hooking it up to the computer and playing the game from the computer screen. Asking because my nephew can't see very well and really wanted this system.
Thank You - fxwebmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is so cool, but I'm not sure what hardware I will need.
- xixixix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0but how did he manage to display 1024*768 or even more in that low low resolution screen? yeah, there is software to do that on pocket pc, but i couldn't find anything for neither windows nor linux!
- LethaLImpuLse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Just one more reason why the DS pwns.
