- mazerrackham, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Hell yeah. I'm swinging my arms from side-to-side!
- Sphonix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Both Paper Marios are GREAT games which are not simple or childish. Mario Parties are actually alot of fun to play, and with the Wii, it will be much like Warioware and Ravin Rabbits. Should be awesome.
- m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9This is GREAT news!
It's these sorts of games that make Nintendo consoles worth the investment. They may not push amazing new limits in terms of graphics, but they always deliver with solid game play. And that's the most important factor in gaming. - PurpleSfinx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I just wanted to reply to the replies above me to congratulate these people on having a mature conversation on Digg. See? It IS possible. Nice work people. Keep it up.
- ggypsy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@chinaman1472,
To be fair, it's not like playing a GC/Wii game is comparable to Pong, graphics-wise. Certainly, they don't have the capability of a 360 or PS3 for rendering, but I find that Nintendo games tend to play very well to what the system can handle. (Look at the Zelda games as a good example.) So it isn't that Nintendo is pushing gameplay over all else (is that even possible? If the rest of the game is unappealing, doesn't gameplay suffer as well?), it's just that they have sacrificed being on the bleeding edge of graphics in return for lower production costs, a lower price point for the consumer, and more development. (If development kits cost less, more people will develop for the system. More people developing = higher chance of innovation.) - magiclava, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I love Nintendo, but Mario Party *8* is hardly original...
- PurpleSfinx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Enjoy your PS3, man."
...I retract my above comment. - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I've seen other people say this as well, and I don't get it at all. Mario Party is fun when you have a bunch of people in the room with you playing. Playing with others online sounds ultra-lame.
However... what if you and the people in the room with you could act as a team and play against another team somewhere else via the Internet. Now THAT would be pretty cool - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"That's exactly the problem, though. People always claim that Mario games are the same old, same old rehashed crap year after year. Yes, they are up to Mario Party 8, but that's an entirely different franchise set in the same universe."
Exactly. Some people act like New Super Mario Bros, Mario Tennis, Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Mario Party, etc., are all the same old kind of game. They are all different. I mean, Nintendo even has 2 separate Mario RPG franchises going right now with the Paper Mario RPGs and the handheld Mario & Luigi games. All these games just happen to star the same guy and share a lot of other things in common, but they are all very different games.
"I am pretty sure I can count on both hands the mario games that I have enjoyed."
The last Mario game I played that I didn't enjoy was Mario Pinball for GBA from a couple of years ago. That was pretty bad. The tons of games starring Mario since haven't disappointed me at all. To each their own though. - abid786, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6What? Mario party 8? Some of the earlier Mario party games were really fun when there were LOTS of people. Mario party, mario kart 64 and zelda were some of the best games for the Nintendo 64.
- MouseCircus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's exactly the problem, though. People always claim that Mario games are the same old, same old rehashed crap year after year. Yes, they are up to Mario Party 8, but that's an entirely different franchise set in the same universe.
The normal, regular Mario games, though, change with each release. You can't sit there and tell me Super Mario Bros. is the same thing as Super Mario Galaxy. The only two popular Nintendo franchises that seem to stay the same are Zelda and Metroid. But really, how much can you change an action/adventure game and a FPS before they're no longer what they're supposed to be?
Personally, I don't mind seeing the same characters I already know in entirely different games. In fact, I prefer it. Regardless, you can't tell me Mario Party 8 isn't fun. If your only gripe with Nintendo games is the fact that the characters remain the same, then you really need to rethink why exactly you play video games.
Now the Final Fantasy series...That's another comment's worth of text. It's better left for another article. - m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@chinaman1472
That's an interesting analogy and I agree in a way. I want everything to be good, including the community in multiplayer games, but in the end for me it boils down to game play and really only game play.
I guess I'm old school in that sense. Especially considering my favorite PC game (which I still play) is Quake 3 + the excessive+ mod (released in '99). Sure it doesn't have the graphics, sound, or weird game play innovations of newer titles, but its game play is that good (IMO) that it can stand the test of time and be even more fun that those which have superior visual quality, sound, and etc. - Jesty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3At least Mario Kart is coming next week.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Final Fantasy started on the Nintendo, only 7 and above were on Sony consoles.
How can you complain about the PS3 and the 360 having the same old titles rehashed when we're talking about *more* Mario games? Silly fanboy.
Mario games just prove that 'the same old titles' can still be fun. - sonicice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nintendo just issued a press release of upcoming games and Mario Party 8 was not on that list.
Here is the press release: http://www.nintendo.com/newsarticle?articleid=SWPYuqhysvn6eRMfLeT9tiWVPNvvMp6n&page=
Some sites are saying it is now scheduled for Q2, but I wasn't able to find anything on it. Make of it what you will. - finbec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just the integration of the Wii remote will make all the difference. I don't think we'll even be able to compare it to the previous Mario Parties....the remote adds a new element and exponentially increases the fun!
- UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Parents?????
I'm convinced that anyone who doesn't like the Mario Party games must not have any friends.
One of my fondest memories: Invite a few friends over, crack open a few beers and proceed to play Mario Party games while inebriated.
Now, thanks to the Wiimote, we actually get to get up and look stupid while playing??? I am so glad I already have my copy reserved (reserved it when I bought Wario the other day). - djruden, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Don't forget Final Fantasy XIII coming to the PS3! Hopefully it takes full advantage of the sixaxis controller. You know it can sense when u tilt it to the side! Boy will that be fun!
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Klarth
The final fantasy's normally have different stories, characters, and gameplay mechanics. The only staples that seem to have appeared are the moogles, chocobo's, cid, crystals (recurring theme) and certain names such as shiva, ifireet or bahamut.
There is no real compariaon between Final Fantasy XIII and a mario 8. Only people who haven't played the series would try to call the Final Fantasy's rehashes. - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@bpapa
I don't mind mario games or mario in games but you have to admit nintendo is pretty excessive with it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mario_games_by_year
I am pretty sure I can count on both hands the mario games that I have enjoyed. - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can't wait for Mario Party 8 - Considering just how stale installments 3 through 7 were (seriously, a microphone?), this ought to be absolutely stellar.
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@chinaman1472
gaming is steak, potatoes... wine?!?!?!?
is that you mister kojima? =) - Braingoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh yhea its time to go do the Mario!
- CamoChris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm presuming these are all US release dates, seeing as Wii Play is on the list (and that's already out in the UK). So when will I be able to get these games in the UK?
- BuGz213, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1says it on the offical site... http://wii.nintendo.com/software_mp8.jsp
i thought it was pushed back also, was so disappointed but not anymore... - tanukiudon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5wow maz, you made me register for digg.
I watched that show so much as a kid.
C'MON DO THE MARIO! - Alphateam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Damn it Nintendo.
Party would be perfect for online. Why not make it?
Why yes I do have friends to play it here, amazingly enough I have friends else where too. - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I never got the whole idea that using a franchise character repeatedly was unoriginal. I mean, who the heck plays video games for characters and stories anyway? Like 1% of video games actually have a QUALITY story. Just because we aren't provided with a new set of characters each time out doesn't mean that the gameplay isn't going to be unique or original.
Would Mario Party 8 be better if it was Johnny Tree Swinger Party 1? - Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3chinaman: "While there are many factors, and gameplay being probably the most important"
Probably?
*Probably*?
Enjoy your PS3, man. - Rustbucket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Notice the "8" after Mario Party? I think it will be a lot of fun because it will take advantage of the new controller but just remember that this is still a "somewhat" rehashed title. Speaking of rehashed I can't wait for MK64 on VC!
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"Don't forget Final Fantasy XIII coming to the PS3!"
Read the part where anamanaman says "rehashes of the same old crap". You're talking about Final Fantasy THIRTEEN here, and that's not counting the thirty or so spinoffs and remakes within the franchise. Admittedly Mario Party is on its eighth game now (ninth if you count Advance), but at least this time it's actually going to be something different rather than the four utterly identical titles the Gamecube had going for it. - chinaman1472, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Srsly. MGS is up to its 4th game and Halo on its 3rd. Jeez!
Original ideas are once in a blue moon these days :( - RafaelVilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that sounds cool!!
- vakh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0GREAT news!
but i love online remix mario game:
look like: http://www.gamezhero.com/online-games/arcade-games/supermafiabros-online.html
Fun and Nostalgia ;) - loof, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1chinaman1472
I like the analogy. Going with the food theme, I believe it's more important to have food that goes well together than tastes perfect. If everything meshes together nicely the game as a whole becomes better. If the gameplay is superb then the other pieces can be little lacking as long as you don't find a hair in your potatoes. - Chubbly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought the microphone one was pretty fun.
Spruced up the formula (5 and 6... eh.).
An example of Nintendo trying new things, perhaps? - aaronm67, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1:-/ I wish they would come out for the Gamecube.
I tried the Wii. When I want to play a video game, it's usually because I had a long day of walking around, going to work, classes, etc, and all I really want to do is sit on my ass and press some little buttons on a controller. I wish the Wii had the option to use a regular controller, because it has some really cool games coming out for it. - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"It's these sorts of games that make Nintendo consoles worth the investment. They may not push amazing new limits in terms of graphics, but they always deliver with solid game play. And that's the most important factor in gaming."
I don't know. I was dissapointed in mario Sunshine and windwaker. I am happy about twilight princess but I am still worried about galaxy and paper mario. - m3mn0n, on 10/12/2007, -10/+8@Chubbly
heh, no not at all.. but I think I'm slowly turning into a fanboy. :) - PurpleSfinx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Digg me down. Clicked wrong thing.
- chinaman1472, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4m3mn0n - gaming is an entire package. While there are many factors, and gameplay being probably the most important, it by no means overshadows all other elements of a game. Sound and music, graphics, presentation, replay value are factors that need to be looked at just as much.
It's sort of like a steak dinner. While you want to have a great piece of steak (gameplay), you also want a good potato (music), wine (sound), an appetizer, salad, or soup to get you started (graphics), presented nicely, and of course, desert to finish it off (replay). Is your game still all that once you get an undercooked potato, tasteless wine, and served to you on a paper plate with no desert even though it was a wonderful piece of meat?
When I purchase a game, rarely am I just buying one particular aspect. I want everything to be good. Having crappy voice overs, crummy sound, pixelated graphics takes away from the experience of gameplay, regardless of how good the gameplay is. - anamanaman, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Cant get enough mario. PS3 and Xbox360 just has rehashes of the same old crap. Nintendo is the only one putting out original stuff.
Yeah! - ch28kid, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1sigh, another game for my parents.
- Chubbly, on 10/12/2007, -18/+2@m3mn0n
Not to sound like a complete *****, but you're not a Nintendo marketing Rep, are you?

What is Digg?
