- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+62a bigger city does not constitute 'innovation'
- Smoktiludy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+49I vote for Rocktar's Table Tennis for the Wii instead. This is still one of my favorite multiplayer games for 360. I think it could get even more fun with a Wiimote.
- Eth4n, on 10/12/2007, -8/+52That'd be pretty cool. There hasn't been any innovation because they've made the last 5 games on basically the same engine. It'd be a solid way to break the kiddie image too.
- mtownand1, on 10/12/2007, -6/+47this would take ho smackin to a whole new level.
- ezweave, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40@gardnmi
I think you are mistaking gradual progression with innovation.
Gradual progression: Vice City adds more story, bigger area, etc; the same with San Andreas.
Innovation was: GTA 1 & 2 being overhead, GTA 3 being 3d...
Vice City and San Andreas are just logical refinement on 3. Sorry. - RWVolkl158, on 10/12/2007, -3/+38@Jeffh
Resident Evil 4? - guitarh3ro, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31If Rockstar knows whats good for them, they'll do it. I mean, after all, opening up the game to a bigger audience rakes in more cash.
Plus, I'd really like to see how they'd use the controller in the games. I can pretty much imagine how they might do it, but I'd nonetheless be interested in seeing how they would pull it off. - martinj88, on 10/12/2007, -7/+35With the low cost development of games on the Wii compared to PS3, 360 and if they reach there 6 million sold by march, Rockstar would jump at the chance to make a GTA for the Wii.
Only problem is if MS and Sony have some type of clause in there contract with Rockstar. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23The funny thing about this whole "Nintendo is a kiddie console" is that they got that stigma when they refused to add blood in the SNES version of Mortal Kombat. I guess a lot of Diggers are still bitter about that. I know I felt gypped when I had the "sweat" version and my friend had the legit Genesis one.
- trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23Reggie is the main man at Nintendo who took over for Howard Lincoln.
- kahnspiracy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21President & COO Nintendo USA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reggie_Fils-Aime
- Ashex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20When I think about new actions with the Wii controller, first thing that pops in my head is ho' slapping.
Seriously, just think about it, grab a woman when you push the C button, and swing the wiimote to bitch slap them. - Easty, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21I think it'd be interesting to see it multi-platform. All nice and pretty on the 360, but cool and innovative and different on the Wii.
It's good to see that Nintendo really are trying to shake the 'kiddy' image (although I wouldn't call RE4, Eternal Darkness, or Sadness kiddy...) - monkeyrun, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21one minor problem, GTA's graphics has never been on the cutting edge (aka next gen) though.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I do blame Nintendo--for making a really fun, affordable system. Damn them!
- Tainek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16@Joe 91210
"it'd be too much work,
1) the hardware is too weak to handle the ps3-360 engine, rockstar would need to create an all new game to make it work for the Wii"
Or they could just scale down the graphics and models , and reduce the scripts for less CPU Load (ala less pedestrians)
"2) Wii controls would probably be too limitiing to work for GTA"
What kind of bull-***** is that? exactly why wouldnt they work for GTA? oh right, your talking out your ass, my mistake
"3) the Wii will sell less than the other two, so that's too much extra work for something that won't make them as much money"
Again with the ass talk, there is no proof that it will sell less, and everything idicates opposite, the public demand is for the wii, it will sell, and sell well if trends continue - daridave, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18I personally hated the RPG crap of San Andreas. Vice City was in-between "not enough" and "too much" (GTA3 and SA), which is why many people consider it the best of the 3D series.
On the Wii, it would be one of those decisions that may sound like fanatism, but it would actually be an insanely powerful BUSINESS decision. Nintendo could profit from it by slamming the "kids only" reputation that sort-of still hunts them, while Rockstar would make a lot of money from this... because hey, "different" seems like it's exactly what people are buying into these days.
However, just to contradict my own personal hopes (to not be disappointed), it is true that the direction Grand Theft Auto has been going and its so-called "innovations" from one game to another, it would probably benifit more from the 360/PS3's horsepower than the Wii's different input(s).
I'm not sure having 1,000 people walking around in a crowed down-town region is what will make the game more fun for me, but I've got a feeling that's what they'll push with the next GTA... but I hope I'm wrong! - motang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Yeah I can just imagine like fighting, and shooting. Not to mention driving. It would be cool to experience GTA on the wiimote.
- coldphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16"The Wii controls would be too limiting for GTA"
WTF, it's motion sensor, if anything the Wii has more controls than GTA can handle. - bmc152006, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13reggie kicks ass and takes names
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11shooting has always been the poorest aspect of the gta games, god help me trying to play the andreas shooting missions, it's tough.

Resident Evil 4 GC Capcom 885,000
Resident Evil 4 PS2 Capcom 643,500 - b0neman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Think of the beat down you could lay on the pimps and I can only guess what it would be like to bang a few hos with that wiimote!! ;)
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14that's pure speculation and you know it. You have no idea what Rockstar would be able to do with the Wii hardware
- gardnmi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12You sir are a genius!
- nonesupplied, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@mabhatter
Or, you know, WATCH your kids? - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Certainly there would be some work involved in porting it to the Wii, but you're incorrectly assuming that it's significantly easier to port between 360 and PS3. The difference between their respective processors is substantial.
Also, your assertion that Wii will sell the least is very poor speculation based on the present numbers. The Wii is in high demand, and I've never seen a console that's attracted interest from such a broad group of people. I've heard people talking about buying one who would never have considered a previous console. And there's also the fact that the Wii is currently outselling the PS3 by about 3 to 1. Yes, it's because of Sony's manufacturing problems at the moment, but from Rockstar's perspective, that's irrelevant. You can't sell people games for a console they don't have. It doesn't matter WHY they don't have that console. - CKR600, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"son what are you doing with that remote?"
"punching whores"
".... oh" - answr42, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7If it gets brought to the Wii, they have to include a "slap a ho" feature!
- AncientWeird, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3hot coffii
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4GTA is pretty cool but has crap controls, maybe they could fix this on the wii? I would love to see this game. wii needs some 3rd party killer apps.
- Monchberter, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Nintendo are following the market forces. That seems to be the current company ethos at the moment; cheaply produced innovations (DS / Wiimote) and consolidation (back catalogue) by offering all things to all men (inc GTA).
They're coming out of their (koopa) shell in a big (dare i say it 'aggressive') way after playing 3rd fiddle with the GC.
Apologies for amount of brackets! - sideshowRAHEEM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060515-6836.html
Microsoft vice president Peter Moore exact Quote:
"People are going to buy two [consoles]. They're going to buy an Xbox and they're going to buy a Wii ... for the price of one PS3." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sweet, GTA with wack controls and ***** graphics.
Sweet! Cant wait! - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2GTA:SA and GTA3 have far less in common than GTA3 and GTAII. That "lack of innovation" BS is getting old.
Not that I feel any argument is worth it, since some people hate GTA just for being GTA. - JurneyAhed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Any figures for RE4 PS2 and Cube sales?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Has anyone here played Red steel, it is so hard to control the aiming and turning using the wiimote. However if people get over the very steep learning curve with the wii and first person shooters, then it would be a great game. I also think Rockstars Table Tennis would be great. Wii Sports Tennis with better graphics. I mean, i love wii sports tennis, but better graphics and more control over the actually ball (topspin and things of the such) would be greatly beneficial.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5This is really interesting. I always thought that Nintendo shyed away from Rockstar for the GTA series to preserve their 'family friendly' image. Looks like it might be the other way around.
But, if a GTA game does come to the Wii, I think it should be a ground-up build of the game, not just a port of GTA IV (or whatever it'll be called) that will appear on the 360 and PS3. If Rockstar can make a GTA game that truly utilizes the Wiimote, I think we could be talking game of the year material - TLAKABM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Screw GTA! Rockstar should be making Space Station Silicon Valley 2 for the Wii.
- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can see it now...
"Today on news at 6...Grand Theft Auto, the controversial game that had millions of parents concerned over the years with its violence and sexual suggestions, can now be acted out by your kids thanks to Nintendo's new system: Nintendo Wii...more on this controversial news after Dick with the wheather..." - smitting, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4IMHO, I think the wimote would add more fun to GTA than any graphics updates.
- Mex1can, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You do realize that the GAMECUBE WAS CAPABLE OF BETTER GRAPHICS THAN THE PS2? I don't understand why everything has to be fall back on how the Wii's graphics are inferior to PS3 or XBOX360. Is your penis small or something? Are you trying to compensate? Wii is about 2 to 3 times more powerful than the Gamecube. Did you see RE4 on the Cube? Wii can produce better than that and it will. Sony trolls need to get a life.
Seriously. - Rell812, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Hopefully they'll give Nintendo an entirely new game. Because, as fun as GTA is, it would be nice to see them move the series foreward a bit and not put out rehash after rehash.
- vhold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nintendo definitely is the most family friendly of the game companies. Look at all the restrictions on their online experience. Their online components will never let you directly communicate with strangers.
If you read any of their interviews about the design of the Wii and Wiimote itself, they make a lot of reference to trying to keep a prototypical mom happy. - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd totally be down for it. I loved the GTA games last gen, but this time I have no interest in buying a console in addition to my Wii. So it'd be hot to get another chance to play a GTA game.
- seneyr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Interesting. I always thought it was Nintendo that didn't want GTA on their systems (which makes really doesn't make any sense in retrospective since there have been several GTAs on their portables). I would think R* could find something new to do with the series and the Wii-mote.
- otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, I cannot express how fun it'd be using a bat.
- saggygrandma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Could you imagine it showing you how to hold the controller like it is a baseball bat, BAM BAM COP THAT CRACK WHORE!
- Sakumi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would love for them to create a GTA for the Wii, but not just a clone of the titles for the other systems, but something unique to the Wii. I'm sure they want to push high-end graphics with the next-gen GTA, but with Wii they could focus on gameplay and use of the controller.
I'll still most likely get the next GTA for my Xbox 360 (if available) and Wii (also, if available). I won't buy another console just to play it, however. - Linkin4, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Hopefully Rockstar can recognize just how succesful a nintendo console can be, being as what that's what scared them away in the first place.
