- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -3/+66The actual answer to the multicolored wii question:
We are going to release a multicolored wii once every early adopter and Nintendo fan has purchased a white Wii, we expect to wait about a year and a half for this to happen, then we will release sexy colours in a staggered fashion causing geeks and fashion conscious gamers ridiculous amount of sexy electronic envy. They will then sell their 1 year old Wii to game stores for poor prices or give them to family members as gifts, thus lowering the cost of entry to new people on the fence about buying a Wii, and deepening our market penetration.
If only marketers were honest eh?
PS: I love my Wii, and DS... DS Lite... DS Lite Onyx.
Damn you Nintendo!!! - KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -11/+72I'll bet the black one'll be bigger.
=D - browwiw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+59At the center of each Wii is the heart of a little orphan boy.
- AshWii, on 10/12/2007, -2/+54My favorite Q & A: GP: Sony appears to be having difficulties moving a large number of PS3s. What, if anything, do you think is to blame for this? A high price? A lack of must-have games?
Fils-Aime: Happily, that's a question you'll have to put to Sony. - StevoCJ, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38What's the difference between the pink Wii and the purple Wii?
It's how hard you have to grip. - wyrdness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34The real answer to that was his reply to the previous question: "At a certain point just doing more of the same is self-defeating. You've got to give people a fresh perspective or eventually they'll start to lose interest, no matter what your entertainment medium."
Give them more of the same with a very high price tag and they'll lose interest very quickly. - colincornaby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31Your Best Buy sounds unique. Everywhere I visit the Wii is out of stock. I should know, I've been doing TV shopping. Some places even have signs in front saying that they are out of stock of the Wii.
Plenty of PS3's though. - baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30it would totally be worth$250 just to watch my Grand Pops swinging a wiimote. the guy has never even used the internets
- milomilomilo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Are you on crack?
Wii's lying on store shelves? I'm sure glad you didn't tell the rest of the country this, because we are under the impression they are impossible to find.
idiot >_> - rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -8/+35Alright, your an idiot. They mentioned of a DVD capable Wii in the article. There are games that will be Wi-fi capable and even online for the Wii. Also, the Wii is looking to have some excellent 3rd party support. That Godfather game looks great. Next time RTA and think before you comment.
- browwiw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30I actually bought a Gamecube last night. Gonna go to EB next weekend and get a refurb X-Box. That's right, I intentionally stay five years behind the times on game consoles. Cheaper that way.
- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29http://www.flickr.com/photos/rockforever/sets/72157594445839689/ check out those photos. My GRANDMA had the high score in bowling on Xmas day. It was great. We played the hell out of the Wii. Sorry if you think its spam, but seriously, all those Fanboy Nay-sayers who dont believe it. Its great.
- apotheos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24"I haven't seen anything but gimiky controls, and shallow mini games."
I must commend you for typing such a extensive and eloquent comment given the fact that you must be totally blind. - browwiw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22I'll break my 5 year rule and buy a Wii when they put out a zombie survival/horror game. The Wiimote is begging to emulate a crowbar for bashing zombie skulls.
- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -9/+29What are you talking about? Are you trying to be sarcastic? Are you just trolling?
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Thats funny, because if you had even a little bit of sense you would buy every one of them and sell them on ebay for a $100 profit each.
This is quite an enjoyable situation because either you have to admit you lied, or you are too stupid to see easy money. (And no, don't try to lie and say you make so much you don't need to sell on eBay, because 1500 dollars in an hour of work isn't bad no matter how you try and spin it) - mancat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20you are the comic store guy from the simpsons.

take another look at that list. as you can see, there is (tentatively, providing there are no delays) at least one major nintendo game per month for the year. and i don't doubt nintendo will market the hell outta these games to get them selling.
do you even know what the gamecube's problems were? the gamecube continuously had 1st party drought, where nintendo sometimes went for months before releasing a good first party game. in addition to that, it was also missing, according to your words: "a bunch of crap from third parties", which btw, was what pretty much kept the ps2 and xbox afloat, between the releases of their 1st party games.
unlike the handheld market, which generally has smaller budgets and take less time to produce, it is almost unreal to release 3-4 1st party games, on a console, on a regular monthly basis. not only that, it's downright foolish to do so, particularly because those games will end up competing against each other at the same time, and console games cost much more. so while you can easily get at least two psp, ds, gba, games for at $60, chances are, you're going to end up 'choosing' between two console games, where ~$60 is generally the price for just one.
their release schedule is fine, so long as delays are almost nonexistent (or as short as possible, if they are inevitable). in the meantime the "crap from third parties", the stuff that was virtually absent from the gamecube, hence a huge role that played a part in its (consumer standpoint) market failure, will fill in the gaps along the way. - gadgetuk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19That's just the stuff that nintendo are releasing - the 3rd party "crap" may not be so crap this time around. From what I've read (mainly though digg stories) developers are much more interested in the potential of the wii than they have been for the previous nintendo consoles. Let's also not forget that Resident Evil 4 for GC was superb.
I say time will tell, I have every faith that there are going to be some incredible games within 12 months from 3rd party developers. Until then there's plenty to keep me going, I don't tend to finish games like Zelda in a single 6 hour thrash and Wii Sports/Wii Play/Wario Ware are all sufficient for getting me and lots of mates drunk for many many evenings to come. - rhesuspieces00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Uhh, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, SSX Blur, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Super Mario Galaxy...
That sounds like enough to keep me busy for a while. Granted, if you want Halo 3, then the Wii isn't your system, but there are lots of fun games coming. - browwiw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19I have a friend who still has a functioning NES, Super Nintendo, and N64 (as well as having a Gamecube and DS). Why do they all still work perfectly? Cause he grew up a poor ass kid who had to scrimp and save for all his systems. He knew he couldn't afford to replace them, so they stayed pristine.
He also has duel degrees in Physics and Philosophy, so he's a pain in the ass in general.
Oooo...Halo 2, thanks for reminding me! - aschocobo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18"I can't tell you how many people I have talked to or read about who played Wii Sports during the holidays and were suddenly surrounded by relatives who wanted to give it a shot."
dammit! there'd be one more of those stories to tell if i only find a console! - OUChevelleSS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Guess what, Wench: Those games are FUN.
Does it really matter what they are as long as they're fun? - MiDri, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Have fun with halo 2, and what ever fangled games they had back in the 2000's, HA!
Seriously though, I worked at a pawn shop (family owned one for 4 years) a few years back and we had XBoxs and PS2s in stock all the time, we could not keep Game Cubes or N64s in stock... WTF? Poor people LOVE Nintendo, no way around it. - MatttK, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Yeah, I know what you mean!! All my friends have been watching DVDs on their Xbox but I've been left in the dark with my Gamecube and, now, Wii. I'm still watching Betamax... can you believe the NES AND the SNES AND the N64 all didn't play VHS cassettes? What a joke!
- lonnieh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Gamecube all over again? Do you realize how in demand the Wii is in contrast to the Gamecube at launch? Do you honestly believe 3rd party developers will turn their heads to a console this high in demand? Wii systems are everywhere?! Check http://wiitracker.com/ or even http://www.refreshthing.com/index.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.refreshthing.com%2Fwii%2F&timeout=30 . You hate the Wii, we get it.
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@ GfxWench
The PS3 is currently available online at Circuit City, CompUSA, NewEgg, Sam's Club, Toys 'R' Us, Wal-Mart, and other stores--not counting all the places you can buy it in store (PS3s are readily available at Wal-Mart, EB Games, Best Buy, and more where I live). On the other hand a quick review of http://www.xpbargains.com/wii_locator.php shows that Wiis are still impossible to find online, and I haven't seen any on store shelves yet. People are still lining up for them. I'd love to see a picture of all these Wiis gathering dust on stores shelves, or a link to one store where the system (not an outrageous bundle) is available online.
The fact that Wiis are still going for a 64% premium on EBay (based on the last 10 core systems sold incl. shipping) testifies to how difficult they are to find. I know you're just a troll GfxWench, but could you at least try not to be so pathetic in your efforts. Have some pride.

Translation: Sony sucks. Your thoughts?
Answer: Don't care. - aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Yeah, my grandmother got a 160 on her first game. She loved the Wii, and talked about it weeks later.
- browwiw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Yeah, but its very possible to have the money to buy a Wii but not an HD television.
- derelictmindset, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14saying that nintendos handhelds are keeping them afloat is akin to saying that the ipod is keeping apple afloat. Gee I wish i could only get by like that.
- randokam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11It's the Gamecube all over again? I don't think so. I'm a PC gamer first, and after seeing the Wii in action at a local EB games (I saw someone fishing in Zelda TP), I knew I had to have one. And that says something, because the last console I actually owned was a PS1. I have been quite happy playing mostly PC games since basically Half-Life 1 came out years ago... Now I'm playing Zelda TP, and I've barely touched my PC for gaming since.
While I would agree with those who say that the touch screen on the DS is more of a gimmick (I really don't care for it, and I own one... I play mostly GBA games on it), I disagree with those who say that about the wiimote. For one thing, my main complaint with the touch screen is that I always felt like it was an added effort to use it. The wiimote on the other hand, feels natural to me as I navigate through the system, as well as when I play games. I 'forget' that I'm using some new-fangled control system with the wiimote. That's how I know it is more than just a gimmick.
As for the future success of the Wii, who the hell knows? Look at how many people weren't even interested in the Xbox 360 until Gears of War came out
(i.e. almost all of the people I know that own one). I think that we should also keep in mind that Nintendo seems to be taking the same strategy that made the Gameboy such a success in the last couple of years and applying it to their consoles. Reggie mentioned a "premium DVD version" coming out in the near future. Who's to say there won't be an HD version not long after that? If the percentages of households with HDTVs in their homes jump from 17% to 50% or higher in the next handful of years, then I'm sure Nintendo will respond. Making a cheaper system that they can update according to what is going on in the market is a totally smart way to go.
The fact that my dad hijacked my Wii for 2 weeks because he liked it so much says something. That man has never liked video games. Actually, it kind of freaked me out! Now he wants one but can't find one anywhere....
I got the Wii because it truly is something different, and I applaud Nintendo for taking that risk. Also, it's the first console I have ever bought near launch. - meepus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Zelda much?
And Smash Brawl, if it's anywhere near as good as Melee, will have enough gameplay depth to last for a decade. - MouseCircus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9People still pay attention to GfxWench? Granted, he/she doesn't post much, but whenever he/she does, it's nothing but flame-bait. GfxWench is a troll, and is best left ignored.
- eurocrisp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12"Third party games are what Nintendo needs to work on."
No, third party games are what third party developers need to work on. It's not Nintendo's responsibility to babysit them. - Lososaurus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11The Wii is a person...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wii_games - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9It was a big suckup interview.
reporter> Mr Reggie why does nintendo Wii mean more to me than life itself
Reggie> Well because its Wii of course.
reporter> is it true that the Wii is fantastic in everyway
Reggie> Indeed it is - TheRingmaster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Ass.
- nmoline, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8How do you do an interview and not talk about the lack of wi-fi enabled games? I have been playing Rainbow Six Vegas because I can only play so much wii sports and twilight princess alone. I need online multi-player to feed my gaming fix.
- sychodelix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Of course when people are putting down the Wii because of games they think are lame, they aren't mentioning the new Zelda game. It's because it's friggin' awesome! Also the list of games coming out later left out the new Metroid game. New Zelda and Metroid games alone are probably a good enough reason to get a Wii, not to mention all of the 3rd party games that will be coming out.
Developers haven't had the time to explore all the ways that the controller than be used yet. Give it some time and I think you'll see some revolutionary new things for the Wii in the next year or so. - loof, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5People are still lining up to get a Wii where I live. I'd like to see where you see them available online maybe I could buy one.
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yeah, the non-existent canon Pokemon games (read Leaf Green/Diamond/Pearl/etc) for the DS are what are keeping it alive. Yes, they're out in Japan, but the DS was picking up steam long before those games were announced.
- browwiw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8When I bought my Gamecube at Wal-Mart (Madisonville, Ky) last night, they were fully stocked with X-Box 3s, had no Playstation 3s, and was told that they were still selling PS2s faster than PS3s. They don't even get X-Boxes anymore.
My Gamecube will pretty much be a dedicated Star Wars: Bounty Hunter/Resident Evil 4/Animal Crossing gaming machine. When I get an X-Box it'll be a dedicated KotOR and X-Men: Legends gaming machine. All the games I wanted to play in my early 20's when I was broke as hell. - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Some types of games simply need buttons and analogsticks and by not offering enough of them Nintendo makes it impossible to develop such titles for the Wii."
It's true there are some kinds of games won't work as well on the Wii. So what? Other games will work much better. There's a reason the Wii version of Rayman Raving Rabbids has received better reviews from critics (76 vs. 65) and users (9.1 vs. 4.0!) than the PS2 version on MetaCritic. There's a reason the Wii version of Madden NFL 07 scores higher (82/78 and 8.6/5.4) than the PS3 version. You'll never see games like Elebits or Trauma Center for the PS3.
Yes, there are limitations to the Wii, but there are also truly unique possibilities. For some the Wii may not make sense as their only system, but for almost anybody it offers a unique experience and a tremendous amount of fun. - 5hop4orce, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Why did they use his high school yearbook photo?
- chrisinsocalif, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Where are all these Wii's that people say are on the store shelves? I have been looking for WEEKS and still nothing available in Southern California. I see plenty of PS3's, but no Wii's. Best Buy and Target stock piled their Wii's for a Sunday sale, and there were long lines at those stores before they opened.
One great feature i love about the Wii, is that you will be able to play old Nintendo games. I grew up on those games. I sure hope to see classics like Super Tecmo Bowl, Super Mario Brothers 3 and many more. - chicbicyclist, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7@SteveOCJ
Who said the Wii is not outperforming the 360 even though it is always sold out? Especially in Japan. The Wii is outselling the 360 at least 10 to 1. It's harder to gauge the American market because Nintendo doesnt love us as much as its homeland and only provided us with so few units!!
Even so, the Wii install base is a little less than half that of the 360 in only about 2 months and the 360 has been out for over a year now with an ultra killer app in Gears of War(10M units for the 360 and 4M units for the Wii). - EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"not accepting licensing from cutting edge fanchises & companies (Rock* Anyone?)"
Proof? I haven't heard of Nintendo refusing a license to any third party developers.
"the ability to play CD's and movies"
Why would I want to? I have had great success, however, streaming audio and video to my Wii via Orb.
"graphics technology that is outdated at the time of launch"
While it can be argued the Wii's graphics technology is out of date, it certainly wasn't a problem for the Gamecube which had better graphics than the PS2.
"Whew! What a relief! I thought we were in trouble there for a second! ;)"
Sales of the Wii are tremendous, the system is easy and inexpensive to develop for, upcoming titles look great, and third party developers have been showing a lot of enthusiasm for the Wii. Where exactly is the problem? -
