- ifonly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15WHY DO ALL EBAY SELLERS TYPE IN CAPS LOCK? I DON'T THINK IT IS VERY COOL.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Skip the lame blog linking and just go directly to ebay:

- bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11A prototype Zelda 3? A prototype Tetris? Those would be fun collectibles to own. A little geeky, but oh well, its something to really enjoy.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I still remember when my mom (without my knowledge) sold my Nintendo and over 2 dozen games for something like $20. Not to mention there was a Gold Legend of Zelda cartridge included in that bunch. I felt like someone had punched me in the stomach and stolen my soul...
- btipling, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18***** bloghoppers.
- RadiatedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11now make me an image of those roms so we can join in on the fun >:D
/action runs away from RIAA/MPAA/anything AA - thebogdan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I'm hoping he uses the money he makes from the auction to purchase a keyboard with a working caps lock. Clearly it's stuck.
- PicklePower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That, and an english instructor.
- abiding99, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I remember playing the Star Fox Championship at a local Toys R Us... I still have the T Shirt I won.

http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZjollerancher - FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7God I love garage sales. Flea markets are good too!
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Most of the legit demo's did, y'know.
Nevermind that it's unlikely they're pirated, if only because the ROMs are utterly unavailable on the internet. No one has 'em. - ZekeSulastin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The StarFox Competition ROM has been out for a while - try looking under the name Starwing for it ...
Cool find, but I feel really REALLY bad for the garage saler this guy bought the carts from. If I was the buyer, I'd give the original guy a little more than $40 :/ maybe 5 or 10% of the total proceeds ... especially at a selling price of $275 a pop. - Aiwanei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sadly Gold Cartridges are easy to find now. When I worked at gamestop, we had like 3 Zelda and 3 of Link (zelda 2) in the gold cartridge form. So goto your local gamestore, you can probably buy back everything you lost for oh... 20$
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'd really like a copy of the Starfox, but not for 200. Cool, though. They'll end up as ROM's now, I bet.
- Subtonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3...Super Star Fox Weekend cartridges are worth almost $300!?
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Earthbound Zero rocks. I have played a little bit of the rom, but I need to get a controller for my pc. Just not the same trying to play with a keyboard.
- lemorex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I wonder why the guy that worked for Nintendo never had the idea to sell these Rare games.
I think if sold individually, they would make more profit. - chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i agree, it doesn't sound realistic.. anyone smart enough to have worked for nintendo should be smart enough to realize that they're sitting on a collectible goldmine.. most likely he is the original owner, and the garage sale story is made up.
- andreo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If this guy is pulling a scam then it's a darn good one. After reading his version of what happened I have to wonder though.
It seems that the person he bought the carts from seem to know that prototypes = Cash. Since there are more games, but the guy doesn't want to part with them. Why would he let go of any prototypes at a garage sale, for less then 40 bucks for the lot.
I also have to add that the labels on those protos are in pretty good condition to be over 10 years old.
I'm sure I'm being way to skeptical. But bigger debates have been raised over far fewer carts before. - D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Never would I EVER sell these games...He (yes I assume its a He) Must be crazy! If I bought stuff on eBay, this is what I would buy...... WOW
- 022A, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I know exactly what you're referring to. I had the issue of EGM that previewed the game.
It was a SNES version of Comanche which was going to use the FX-2 chip.
http://snescentral.edgeemu.com/0/1/5/0153/box.jpg - TGZRyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The NES version was never released here in America. Hence the rarity of it.
- 022A, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Hilarious that everyone is crying for this "garage sale" story.
It's pure *****. Like so much of the "background" people post about items on eBay.
If the guy selling this stuff told the truth that he worked for Nintendo, some partner company or something of that sort then it just wouldn't be as interestin would it? Furthermore, it could potentially cause problems and devalue the auction. Instead of being a little jealous and dreaming of one day scoring such an impossible find all these nintendo-net-nerds would be pissed. They'd talk about how what he's doing is illeagal or immoral and raise a huge stink about it.
This story protects the guy and more importantly lets people buy a miracle...Stumbling into retro gaming goldmine. - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2completed listings (you need an ebay account):

- sark666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One game I was excited about way back when, was this 3d chopper game for the snes using some supped up fx chip that allowed graphics like starfax but textured. It also was going to come with a link cable so 2 snes's could play head to head fullscreen with 2 tv's of course.
I even looked to see if I could find a leaked rom but no such luck.
Anyone know the game I'm referring to? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hope that bastard gets DRM from them.
- Ionik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2To me, the Earthbound cart is by far the one I would want the most. I never really saw how much that one went for at auction, anyone know for sure?

one more starfox game left - JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3PLEASE RIP THE ROMS FOR THE REST OF US!!
- jonshipman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2SNES or NES, cause this one in the lot is for NES.
- wtfunkymonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wouldn't be surprised if nintendo recycled cartridges in-house.
- TGZRyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They are refering to the "second known english copy of Earthbound" for the NES not the Super NES
- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He also must've gotten quite a haul of games for $40 if they were 40 cents each...
- sark666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@022A
Thanks a lot man! Damn cool someone knew what I was referring to. I can't believe they had the box art complete and still it never saw the light of day. I read the reason a lot of last games for snes were killed to not still any thunder from the n64. I didn't realize it was the same (or a port of) commanche that was on the pc, which ya I remember used voxels.
And yes I remember that preview in egm showing a couple of screens that looked awesome. I was so ready to grab that game, and rent a copy, and bring my snes over to my friends.
I'd still love a beta leak of that game to try in an emulator. Or I'd atleast like to see those in game screens again. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1please point me in the direction of the ROMS of these? w00t! hook the community up! after all they have done for you
- digitul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i dont buy the garage sale thing at all. if he really bought them from someone that WORKED for nintendo, he would have to know how rare they were and wouldnt just let them all go for 40 bucks
- nstern2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think the starfox one was already ripped. There is a championship rom in the full romset, and also a starfox 2 beta rom.
- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Never have I seen so much utter crap spoken and swallowed from one ebay auction.
"AFTER I BOUGHT THE GAMES FOR $40 HE MENTIONED TO ME THAT HE USED TO WORK FOR NINTENDO--I GUESS HE REALLY DIDNT KNOW WHAT HE HAD CAUSE THIS IS WHAT HE SOLD ME FOR ABOUT 40 CENTS EACH"
Right. Sure. An ex-Nintendo worker who "didn't know what he had". The average idiot in the street would know they could make more money from ebay or such with finds like these. Secondly and despite what most people like to believe, Nintendo DO NOT give out free samples/prototypes just on a whim. Even to any employee and keep VERY tight security checks on ingoing/outgoing games, hardware etc. Seller also rather convieniently notes that he was unable to get a few of the games working.
And then screws up in a rather stupid way (besides the all-caps)
ONE OF THE GAMES HE SOLD ME WAS ZELDA 3(NO LABEL ON BACK) FOR SUPER NINTENDO(COULDNT GET THIS GOING ON MY SYSTEM) WHICH I DONT THINK IS SUPPOSED TO EXIST.
Funny, I could've sworn I was playing Zelda III the other day...
Ah well, at least he knew what game it was without it even being labelled. Or it working... somehow.
Either this was the dumbest Nintendo employee EVER who sold very valuable carts off for tiny sums of money (hey, always makes a great part in any made-up story doesn't it?), or someone just got a nice line of hacked up roms and dead carts. That as someone mentioned are in surprisingly good condition. I have carts half their age (and even one snes) that've barely left the boxes in all that time yet the plastic or labels have yellowed with age.
I also find it interesting that these amazing finds are always not only dirt cheap or gotten through ex-employees, but that the person selling them is always stupid enough to sell them so cheap and the person buying them "never knows anything about this kind of thing".
Not that this happened a few months ago with the supposed Zelda proto cart or anything, too... - Scooley01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What does the article mean the "second known english copy of Earthbound"? I have an English copy of Earthbound...
Unless they mean the prequel that was only released in Japan, in which case that would be QUITE the find! - jollerancher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0not really sure why my story is so hard to believe. im just some jackass who goes around to garage sales and thrift stores looking to find things to sell on e-bay. my "story" is 100% true. as i stated on digital.press.com i think his wife put these games out on the table at the garage sale. and after he sold them to me he told me he used to work at nintendo but i wasnt really listening because i was busy trying to get the games in a box and into my car. i had no idea at the time what i had found. i was hoping i turned my $40 into maybe $200 on e-bay which isnt to bad for a few minutes work. and i describe my auctions in all caps cause i feel its easier to read. and yes i did get quite a haul of games for $40, he sold me over 100 games. and picklepower im using some of the proceeds to buy myself hooked on phoincs so soon my english will be very goodly. and im not sure if you folks know this but as i was packing up the games the seller told me he had some real rare games(1 of 1's as he described them) that he was holding on to. i went back to his house the next week and he told me he had another huge box of games in storage he would sell me, he took my number and im waiting by my phone for that call. the only difference this time is if i go back im bringing my gamebit and the knowledge of nintendo prototypes ive gotten the last 2 weeks and letting him know what he has. he was a real nice fuking guy and looked like he could use the money. what he sold me at the garage sale is done, but im not gonna go to his house, sit in his living room, pet his dogs, and lie right to his face. in 2 weeks ive made some contacts with people all over the world interested in the items he has and i will offer to help him get the most he can for them(for a small fee of course). like i said in the beginning, im just some jackass who got lucky.
- EvilTesdall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I rented earth bound from blockbuster back in the day....it was english...
- trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm sure at NOA they have more of these lying around. Maybe it's in a secret vault that a hidden pipe can take you to.
- 022A, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Something I wanted to mention in my first post...
Comanche was a voxel based game. Voxels (volumetric pixels) are a pretty interesting topic that most people especially the younger set have likely never heard of. Though still heavily used in medical imaging, polygons and fancy new things called "graphic accelerators" basically wiped them off the gaming map back in the late 90s.
