- keiths, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35Well they would hopefully put more time into making Punch-Out then they did Boxing in Wii Sports. I like boxing in Wii Sports but I do agree it doesn't respond well all the time.
- Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Keep in mind that Wii Sports was originally nothing more than a tech demo. With a full-fledged game, I'm certain they'll put considerably more effort into making the controls intuitive.
- seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22I don't know if I really want this to be true. Boxing in 'Wii-Sports' was a bit of a pain in the butt. I just didn't feel as thought I had enough control over how my punches were being dealt-out.
- mrgreen4242, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Naw, gotta be Punch-Out with the over-the-top opponents, Mario as the ref, crazy unrealistic combo's, etc. Since the controls are going to be "immersive" but not realistic it wouldn't make a very good game to try and make it a boxing sim. An arcade style Punch-Out game seems like a much better match.
- MrBig101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I don't want Punch Out...
I want Mike Tyson's Punch Out! - niradg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11i didn't "get" the wii boxing until i read some tips online, and then I enjoyed it immensely.
see here: http://boards.ign.com/nintendo_wii_lobby/b8270/132704729/p1/?28
and here: http://www.hackmiiwii.com/2006/12/31/wii-sports-tips/ - aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Boxing got easier once you figured out how to pace your punches so you dont confuse the computer.
Then its easy to start aiming and getting combos left and right.
Really while the wii sports motion sensing is very good for the dodging and the leaning, its really only half there for the punching, Most of it's problems could have been solved by a wii baseball style "?!" appearing above your head if you are confusing the computer by firing to rapidly.
Hopefully a future punch out would take into account certain things, like if it senses a rapid succession of punching, it will stop treating them like individual swings and put you into an aggressive "pummeling" mode, where you are undefended, and quickly delivering a lot of short blows, for when your opponents are on the ropes.
but truly, I think wii sports boxing's issues are a software issue, and not a hardware problem. Give it some time, we will see a great boxing game. - trunks13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Awesome, Glass Joe comes out of retirement.
- Jwoey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7it wasnt impossible.. stick and move! stick and move!
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7the real question is... in this version, is Mike Tyson's special move, the ear bite?
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Blame it on the software, not the hardware.
Punchout can and probably will be a lot better [and more responsive].
I have to deny myself of wishing this game or I won't sleep at night. Super Punch-Out!! still pwns, and I would totally get the VC punch out if it was the version with Mike Tyson (and not Mr. Dream) . - Miso117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6They need to keep the music from the original Punch Out!
That would be AMAZING!!! - mymidgetfriend, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I never read the articles that say "RUMOR", but I'll digg a rumor that I like.
Nintendo would be stupid not to make a new punch-out wii game. Both punch-outs are instant classics and I'm pretty confident that the Wii can carry another great punch-out title. - charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7No kidding, it would have to be a HELL of a lot better than the boxing game in Wii sports. The controls on that game are so unresponsive it's just painful to play. Every time I play I just sit there flailing, and my guy does about 1/10th of the punches I'm throwing. Ugg, I don't understand why they didn't put the airplane game in instead of boxing.
- SilleeString, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes.
- FakeFakerson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I certainly hope so..... 3D bike theft YTMND's here I come!
- mvanhorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wonder of it'll still be impossible to beat the boss
- squishee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I can't wait to punch King Hippo right in his band-aid-covered belly button.
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I imagine it would be more like Super Swing Golf - that game has crazy accurate swing sensing - and if you screw up, it's probably because you swung it wrong. I'd like to imagine the first "true" Wii boxing game would be like that.
- canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5we need a great boxing game w/ online action! while punch-out would be fun, i'd prefer a 'fight-night' with the top boxers of all time. wii boxing sucked hard, but with a more intuitive/accurate control scheme boxing could be a big winner.
- SilleeString, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Would Punch Out for the Wii be a great game, or the greatest game? You decide.
- SaintStryfe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Note, the Wii boxing is actually quite responsive, If you know how to actually throw the punches. It was not like a real boxing match. The movements of the Controller did not match the screen. Once you learn the actual method to fight, it's quite fun and responsive. Just not accurate.
- TheRingmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One thing they could do to make it worlds better than Wii Boxing would to have it use 2 Wiimotes.
- xpliclt777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Considering the TM was registered on April 2005 leads me to believe that development for the new title started around the same time. I doubt that they would register it that early for VC re-releases of the original titles.
That being said, I'm sure that the controls will be more fine tuned by release. The golf controls in Wii sports needed fine tuning, which led to a different style in Super Swing Golf, which led to praises from critics on the motion control for the up and coming Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007. I'm sure the same will be said for future boxing titles as well. - Le3f, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3...stole my bike
- robotsongs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It would be cool if it was "Muhammad Ali's Greatest of All Time Punch Out"
that would rule. - wonkavsn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If this happens, then let's hope that the Wiimote controls better than the Powerglove did!
(I'm sure everyone remembers the Powerglove ad showing "Punch Out!"). - xtardox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1**keeps pressing select until the next round**
- Tweedy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Wii boxing wasn't made for uncoordinated nerdlings to pick up the controller and go. It takes awhile to get accustomed to it's controls.
- MartyMcFly713, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The controls in Wii Sports Boxing are pretty bad, I hope they fix it if they actually come out with this.
- puskar49, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Punch Out was an arcade game before there was MT Punch Out. Furthermore, there was 'regular punch out' before there was a Mike Tyson branded punch out. Mike Tyson is just a sprite modified version of 'Mr. Dream' the champ in regular NES Punch Out."
You have that backwards. The original NES release was Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! After a contract dispute, Nintendo replaced him with Mr. Dream and re-released the game as just "Punch-Out!!"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punch-Out%21%21 - tdp05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope this happens. I like the Wii Sports Boxing game, but I've already seen some of the limitations so far.
I'd love to see a footpad to make it so you could move around too, ala DDR or the old school Nintendo Track and Field game. - colouredlights, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"but I don’t think this is at all related to a Virtual Console release of the original title."
Based on? Great source we've got here! - Hax0rJimDuggan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Mike Tyson's IS the original.
- XStatic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I agree, but my son seems to have figured it out, he knocks down those punching bags in 1 or 2 hits each.
Have to take your time hitting the mits though... - diggapleaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dugg down for unnecessary exclamation marks
/sarcasm - neolarthytep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Even though this is nothing more then a rumor, it certainly gives me hope. I'd also be hyped for a fight night for the Wii, due to the excellence that is Madden on Wii. EA seemed to get it right there, guess we'll have to see if the trend continues with Tiger Woods.
- FrogMuffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nintendo _really_ needs to do games like this!!
Make a standard classic Punch Out!! game with Wii controls, add in the Mii's w/internet play and it would be gold. - silverweed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah exactly, in wii boxing you hold the remote and nunchuck so the top is facing the ceiling and then tilt forward to punch, you don't actually punch. After figuring this out I can get mid 30s on the bag game, and I can get 40+/6- on the punching accuracy game. I can completely own my roommates because they just punch. A punch out game would be much more accurate and well designed. Wii sports was a FREE addition, its fun as ***** but nothing is completely fleshed out.
- rampy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Mike Tyson's IS the original."
Punch Out was an arcade game before there was MT Punch Out. Furthermore, there was "regular punch out" before there was a Mike Tyson branded punch out. Mike Tyson is just a sprite modified version of "Mr. Dream" the champ in regular NES Punch Out. - xSEED, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1given what wii sports is they did a good job. basically a demo of what it can be. when the real things come out they'll pwn
- alberto24, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1haha that would be great - up up, down down, a, a, a, swipe!
- toothpot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Mr. Sandman is the real champ. Tyson is a gimmick.
However, it would be cool if Mike Tyson bit your ear off to get disqualified. - Darksoul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Oh what not Mike Tyson's punch out now, yeah I can see it now Mikes two new moves he first when you do an uppercut bites an ear off then when your dude is on the ground bleeding crouched he rapes you. Come on you all know that's funny haha......
- doocefan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If true that would be so sweet. I'll break out my credit card no problem. Chaching!
- verb0ten, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Secret footage of the Wii PunchOut!!
http://www.transbuddha.com/alphamonkey/mediadir/media/java/punchout.html - Waiting2awake, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0 Huge fan of the original punch out. Not so much the MT punch out. Fight Night Rnd3 for the Xbox is pretty good.
I am a huge boxing fan and have trained and had a couple of exibition bouts. A real boxing sim I think would be awesome, but probably not a big seller. Too many people have been conditioned to think that boxing is like Rocky, instead of a very subtle sport.
If there was someway of making a home system like http://wiimedia.ign.com/wii/image/article/719/719698/arcade-evolution-20060719114552187.jpg
that would be so super duper awesome.. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Am I the only one who never cared for "Mike Tyson's Punch Out"?
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Yay! More old games. Can we get more mini-games too?
- SqueakyWheel, on 10/12/2007, -33/+2Wii Sports is the very best sports game that can be made with the limited controls. Quit looking for something to improve on it. It is never going to get better
