- Propapanda, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29This rumour brought to you by: The common sense department.
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19"all the broken TVs"
OH, come on! You, I, and everyone know that anyone who broke a TV with the wiimote doesn't deserve a TV or a wiimote. It's ridiculous.
*still needs to get his hands on a wii* - mvanhorn, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24It is such a hassle to replace AA batteries on the Wii. It's my biggest and only complaint.
- somunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I hear they're going to add a teeny-tiny sub-woofer to give it some oomph on the bottom end.
- Capisano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The only other thing I hope they fix is the speaker. It's such a great looking system and has that cutting edge feel, then you hear that little speaker. It's just way too "tinny".
- sanman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I want it to have a rechargeable electric shaver built in, too. That way I can play Nintendo in the morning while not falling behind in getting ready for work.
- spooniep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You should check out the Nyko charging kit for the Wii. It gives you better grips for the wiimotes, rechargeable batteries and a nice dock:

"1) Open drawer in kitchen
2) Grab 2 batteries from pack
3) Open slot on back of Wiimote
4) Take out old batteries, toss in trash
5) Put in new batteries
6) Close slot
"
You forgot #7: Profit!! - cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5And a VERY long recharge time (compared to the 5 minutes a good Energizer AA charger will get you for half the price).
The Wiimote is going to be a real cash-cow for Nintendo. One thing to keep in mind is that it wouldn't take much to produce completely different wii controllers in the future (above and beyond add-ons). - terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31) Go to big box store of choice
2) Grab 4 Ni-MH batteries + charger for about $30 (more for the 15 minute charger)
3) Charge batteries and install in Wiimote (Ni-MH seem to last longer than alkalines, so this won't happen too often)
4) Play games
5) Never throw out batteries
6) Karma! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+41) Open drawer in kitchen
2) Grab 2 batteries from pack
3) Open slot on back of Wiimote
4) Take out old batteries, toss in trash

You forgot some steps:
1. Go to the store
2. Pay five bucks for a package of batteries
3. Throw them away instead of recycling them like everyone else
4. Repeat - Sprules04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Shoooting and drawing have nothing to do with the accelerometers. My roomates Wii is very accurate when using it as a pointing device. Maybe you should look into removing IR interferences or upping the sensitivity to the remote.
- AClayeJ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Replacing the batteries isn't that bad. I don't see why it's such an issue. Takes like what? 2 mins? Buy rechargeable batteries. I keep about 10 of them charged up so I have fresh batteries whenever I need them. Real simple.
- Takfam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Don't we all? My girlfriend wants me to have a black wii too.
...wait, sorry, what were we talking about? - keiths, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yea it really is annoying. I saw a product that was a charger for 2 remotes, can't remember the name anymore though.
- keiths, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@dugdig
When you have 4 controllers it is. - muikano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow is someone trying to Osbourne effect the Wii? The Wii is different from the DS revision. The DS phat was ugly, dim screened, small stylus and the buttons were misplaced. DS Lite perfected everything. But the core gameplay was left intact.
The Wii is already sexy as hell. It's got the Out-of-Order CPU that can rearrange the instructions so that that the fastest ones get sent out first, good for AI, easier to develop using existing PC devtools; you'll see faster games come out for Wii than the 360 by a factor of 4 with better AI as well. That's why you see so many shooters. Shooters are primarily multiplayer fare. No need to depend on AI that needs costly and custom devtools to build. Crossplayer would be perfect for Out of Order processors like the xenon and the Cell. Not to mention the cache misses that would happen if code happens to bottleneck. Game will stall, and your frames per second will drop.
Wii also has a good low heat GPU that can be left on standby indefinitely, a small point but it is the thing that defines it as a gaming console instead of the masquerade MS and Sony had been dancing in order to get ppl to accept a computer into their Eye of Mordors. Remember when consoles were just for games and weren't great big plans to replace Personal Computers by tempting us with better UI experience but lesser system control? The reason so many people like MACs are because they are both simple to use and powerful.
Wii has a innovative control system, much like the DS. The first party developers are top knotch. Unlike the DS however, the developers for the N64, and the Gamecube have been burned once before. Iwata needs to be commended for convincing the creator of Kirby to come back and work on Super smash Brawl for nintendo. Ubisoft is having a good Wii year. But Nintendo needs a 3rd party dev to succeed so bad, i really doubt that there isn't something shady between UBI and Nintendo. I really doubt the Red Steel numbers.
So really, the Wii is a finished product. They won't change the core gameplay. The DS Lite only upgraded the aesthetics and the annoyances and not the controls, nor the kernel.
The Wii is lacking rechargeable/dockable wiimote batteries, thicker cords, 480p cable, DVD playback and a greater range of games. The lack of games to me, should be the priority.
The Wii has many faults but it is one sexy Apple-inspired device.
I suspect that the influx of funds from the quick flood of early Wii adopters will be used to fund a new Nintendo 1st party studio--or to buy out a certain company with heavy experience in producing PC games. Out of all the presidents of all the consoles, which one has the most experience as a game software and hardware developer? That's Iwata. Don't bet on the Wii. Bet on Iwata. - motang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4yeah I agree, I use rechargeable but still. with this new one that would be a welcome addition.
- scotl89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There's a practical side to the replaceable batteries. If I'm playing Zelda and my battery dies I don't want to wait an hour or two to until the battery recharges to pick up again. This is even more important in multiplayer games where you don't have an extra controller lying next to you (assuming, of course, that you've managed to find one).
- akshay626, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It would be cool if they made a NERF Wiimote, similar to the NERF PS2 controllers... that way when they fly out of your hand and hit the tv, it would be okay.
- Aiwanei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1those fast chargers usually heat the batteries up so much that they shorten the life span of the batteries considerably if used in a fast charged consistently.
- brotherfranciz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"...but I think I need to find a Wii rather then playing some demos in the store before I can say for sure if its necessary or not."
Ha, I could tell that you don't own a Wii from reading the beginning of your paragraph...
"One of the things the Wiimote doesn't have is an analog trigger that allows you to accelerate faster or slow down depending on how hard your press it."
Answer: the freakin' nunchuk!!! It works like a charm too - in Zelda, when you're riding Epona or in wolf form you can accelerate faster or slow down depending on how far you push the analog stick. - rickytan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Plus the nyko is meant to dock/charge your controllers while they're not in use... so it really shouldn't be an inconvenience waiting for it to charge unless you're going like 20 hours straight.
- uberchaoslord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I can't wait for Jack Thompson to get all riled up about the inevitable gun-shaped Wiimote for FPS games. And actually, that shape of remote might be better anyway, seems like I'm always forcing my wrist forward to hold the wiimote flat. Something like a star trek phase (nexgen, not tos) might be more comfortable, even for basic games.
- Denver80203, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1More ergonomic (like tivo) would be very nice.. my hand cramps after a short while... only problem is when you're supposed to hold it differently like in excite truck -ergonomic changes
- Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5@AClayeJ
Wow you can do it in 2 mins. I heard it takes like 2 days for some people, you must be really smart or college educated cause I couldnt figure it out for the life of me.
Mazerstar for example thinks it is really hard and ruins the overal fun of the system. - Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know, honestly hearing this, if there is any merit to it, it sounds like Nintendo didn't put really too much thought into the design of the Wiimote. I mean, it might be central to the Wii's entire strategy, yet with the easy to break wriststraps and really the stupid rectangular design of the current Wiimote, it is no wonder they might be developing a new one. One of the things the Wiimote doesn't have is an analog trigger that allows you to accelerate faster or slow down depending on how hard your press it. I mean, this would have made Excite Truck a decent game, rather then one where you go full speed and see how long you can last before rolling off a cliff. Also, without a rechargable battery like every other next gen system out there and the ability to charge the Wiimote, I mean, what was Nintendo thinking? Did they really need to sell 4+ million of the units to get enough user feedback to find out what they could do better? Hopefully this is true, but I think I need to find a Wii rather then playing some demos in the store before I can say for sure if its necessary or not.
Nintendo, lets just focus on upping production and selling the friggen things to everyone that still wants one. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Rumor: Nintendo at work designing a new, less awkward case to replace the intentionally awkward design for the same hardware you already own so you'll want to pay more for something you technically already own.
Naaah, couldn't happen. - burndive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Fixed:
1. Go to Costco
2. Pay ten bucks for a package of 40 batteries
3. Throw them away instead of recycling them like everyone else
4. Repeat eventually, when you go through all those batteries - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0@dugdig
Unless you've got one of them controller skins that, like, everybody has. - Gooogler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0you're right httpgeek, this is not news, and no one else is talking about it : http://www.trendio.com/word.php?wordid=456&language=en
- httpgeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1yay another rumor to drive traffic to a site...
great idea come with something more than he said she said...
or hii said shii said... - davidrools, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Are we all overlooking the obvious? Can they please make the wii remote ACCURATE, for once. Stop cutting corners with the accelerometers and put a real GYRO in there instead! My Gyration mouse is rock steady and is sensitive to small movements without being jumpy. The Wii Remote is so frustrating to use for anything that requires precision (shooting, drawing, etc-anything besides swinging)
- Merrick178, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1OMG! RUMOR: Apple working on iGame!
http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/179/igame6bg.jpg
Rumors don't do much for me. - chrisinsocalif, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0My main complaint about the Wii is..... I can't freakin buy one! I find one in stores. I want a wii but dont want to pay the inflated prices on Ebay.
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Screw new Wiimotes, I want the black Wiis! White electronic gadgets ruin my feng-shui.
- AClayeJ, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Crass22
Well, it's not rocket science you know. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1i suppose the strap will be stronger on this one too?
- cr4ft, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0I bet someone at Nintendo broke their TV's or Window while playing and said "you know what, maybe we should change this"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2It's safe to say that this generation Nintendo is applying its handheld mentality to its console. Sacrificing graphics and processing power for cheaper parts, focusing on the gameplay over graphics (There's no reason why you can't have both, but I digress), etc. And if there's one thing Nintendo has done with EVERY handheld they make, it's releasing another version of it. Sure, your Game Boy plays games, but this Game Boy Pocket is slim, has a better battery life, and comes in tons of colors at launch. Sure, your DS Phat is the best selling handheld of all time, but your life is incomplete without the sleek sexiness that is the DS Lite.
Face it. Nintendo is coming out with a new version of the Wii. I haven't bought a Wii yet for this very reason. - andydumi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1I wonder if the better grip is on response to all the broken TVs. Still this is the kind of thing they should have had from the beginning. Especially rechargeable batteries.
- aksum4586, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0Yeah, my friend broke his Wiimote and called Nintendo to get a replacement(which he got today), and it had a rubberized B button and I guess the 1 and 2 buttons were slightly different and he said something about the clarity on the A button was different too.
- brickguy, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2W-I-R-E-L-E-S-S
- Crass22, on 10/12/2007, -16/+5It is so hard to take my batterys out and put them in the recharger for a few hours. I mean it really ruins the gameplay having to manually charge thoes batteries every 2 or 3 weeks. I read about one guy that couldnt open the battery door on the backside of the wiimote and he had to turn his whole system back in to Nintendo to fix it cause it was such a major problem and would have been a big inconcieniance if they hadnt.
