- NOAMattD, on 10/12/2007, -2/+89Yeah, and XBL copied the internet and shareware.
Oh wait, the internet is free. - daridave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+54you must not have been a PC gamer.
demos have existed since forever. Ever heard of SHAREWARE ? Anyway ... n00b. - Taromsn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Why blocks though? It seems like a totally arbitrary measure of data.
- Ub3rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Has no one looked at when this was posted? 12-3-06.
- GravyTrain6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25So...is it rumored? or confirmed? no, i didn't rtfa, but the title should at least explain itself.
- Taromsn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21How much IS a block anyways?
Why blocks instead of MB and KB? - o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18It's hard to reach those really high rumors without a ladder.
- Danners, on 10/12/2007, -0/+161 block is definitely 128KB
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18"Even though everything Nintendo's ever done wasn't invented by them. This includes analog, touchscreens, motion sensing, shoulder buttons, connectivity, etc."
Plus-shape directional pad? - dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16At least, *RUMOR* is in the title so I know to not even bother reading the article.
- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I read TFA, and I stil dont know.
The information was "translated from a german website". They pose the question "is this site to be believed?". They didnt even mention what german site it was from (I didnt see anyway)
I only wish Digg had more news articles than speculation and rumors. All you people that digg articles like this are the ones to blame. - twigboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16the xbox is a giant block
- APHughes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17The PS2 is still outselling the PS3 and VHS are outselling Blu Ray movies, yet you can say the PS3 will win? This is the Neo Geo all over again. The PS2 sold at launch and kept selling throughout the release of the GameCube and Xbox. When PS3's are waiting on store shelves and no one wants them then it is a problem. Sony didn't look at the normal world, they looked at a small group of people to market it to. Do you think Billy Bob in Iowa knows what the hell Blu Ray is? Sony will put up a banner in 9 months that reads PHISSION MAILED.
- imikedaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12@fuzzzy: *whoosh*?
The question was obviously referencing how the title says the demos are confirmed, but then there's a question mark at the end. If there's uncertainly about whether it will happen, then it's not confirmed. - MikeD606, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I think I still have "50,000+ blocks" on my xbox 1.
- nakile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10http://digg.com/gaming_news/Wii_DEMO_download_service_announced_DE
Same website, 100 days ago. Rumor is right. - freetyme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Why stop at SD cards, if smart decisions are made this is what Nintendo will allow.
The two USB ports will be able to support external hard drives, and wireless keyboards (I guess its fine using the Wii remote as a mouse), and then using the bluetooth enabled technology allow wireless headsets for online play...if or when they get to that. - wildrice128, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Contrary to popular belief, not all Iowans are oblivious to the world, APHughes. :-)
- jacobmp92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I believe 1 block is approx. 1/10 MB.
For example, Mario 64 takes 90 blocks, but on the SD card it uses ~11 MB (I think). - AhrenBa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That is a VERY good point!
Wow, even though a demo channel is likely, I don't trust this source (especially since the story was posted three months ago!) LOL! - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7taromsn,
I'm not sure why blocks are still used these days; esp. since console memory storage is all measured in Megabytes/Gigabytes now. - TheTjalian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Nintendo of Europe is hosted in Germany. Good enough for you?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Why does the title have a question mark after confirmed? How can it be confirmed if you have to ask? FFS
- jacobmp92, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I really hope the thing about being able to run game demos off of an SD card is true. If they let you run demos off of SD, then full games will be sure to follow once gamers begin to run out of space.
I have 800 blocks left. :( - slightlyoffbeat, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10How can something be "Confirmed?"
- rpgguy1o1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah!
I can't believe I wasnt able to play super mario bros 3 as a demo before I bought it! - cam503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The average long-term memory of a digger is absolutely worthless.
- APHughes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8The people who bought a PS2 for $150 and bought 5 games for the system will not pony up $600 for a shiny replacement. The majority of them will keep the PS2s and buy something other than a $600 PS3. IF a year from now Sony chooses to drop the price they won't drop it by much. The 360 hasn't dropped in price and it has been out for 16 months. The PS3 is bound to fail and stock holders will get wind of the loss each PS3 has plus the lack of software sales.
Also, Blu Ray IS competing with DVD. Sony has to convince the masses to trade in their old collection of DVDs for a similar disc that looks slightly better. Both HDDVD and Blu Ray will fail because they only added slightly better picture, nothing else is new and normal consumers WON't buy it.
As for the PS3 and the PS2 competing, they are competing with each other. Every new PS2 sold is one less PS3 out the door. Also, Sony doesn't want any more companies to make PS2 games in hopes that it will try to make consumers buy the PS3 instead. Look at the Xbox to Xbox 360 conversion. Madden 06, 07 for Xbox 1 will not play on a 360. So what does a consumer have to do, buy a 360 with the 360 version of Madden.
PS3 has crappy software and philosophy. PS3 costs too much and includes Blu Ray, which nobody wants. - gmtwilight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well Nintendo in a sense already does this with their "Nintendo DS Download Station". This would just be an online version that could be integrated to the Wii Shop Channel.
But I have to agree with other comments in the fact that, if they could make it so that you could get DS demos in addition to Wii demos, it would be huge. - DAVIDPOWERZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5wait? the its been rumored that its been confirmed, or its confirmed itsa rumor? id go with the ladder
- jayyoung, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is from December, not NEWS.
- marspidey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It hasn't been confirmed or else "*RUMOR*" and "Confirmed?" wouldn't be there. It would say something like "Nintendo released news of ..." or "Demo Downloads for Wii Confirmed". Demo Downloads are not groundbreaking either. Nintendo is just behind.
- birch25, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i suppose they wouldn't...if they were giving out demos in the first place
- LukeEsntlPdx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This story is from last year. Please bury.
- larrykoopa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I hope this will be confirmed.
- notredamegrad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like to dream, so I hope this comes true. I would love a free demo. If they expect me to drop $50 bucks on a game I want to know Im going to like it.
- phort99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ooh, it's *RUMOR* AND it's 'confirmed?' This has all the makings of a Digg story!
- cam503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why wouldn't they? Xbox Live offers downloads through their service and at the same time you can get demos off of disks included with certain magazines.
Why would this be a bad thing for the Wii? - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2well technically your hdd uses blocks
ever wonder why you get size and size on disk?
its because not every block is filled but its marked as taken even if it holds 1 byte.
I would prefer mb aswell, but blocks works just aswell - TheRealDj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Notice how these sorts of rumors makes the front page, yet bad news Metroid Prime being pushed back to 2008, a rumor reported by sites like 1up and IGN, are ignored?
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Why does the title have a question mark after confirmed?"
I don't see a question mark, I see an Apple logo. - N1XUK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3i honestly think nintendo would make a killing if they follow XboxLive's micro transaction ehthos.
Imagine paying the equivalent of £5 of Wii points for another Wii Sport game. Fishing, Cricket etc All the niche stuff that are country specific.
Demo's? If they get this right we could see DS (download & play) demo's as well as Wii titles. When Metroid first hunt was included with the DS the developers loved the amount of feedback they got, and i can just imagine all the Wii owners loving being able to beta test a game and being able to give feedback. - scabbers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't think the people who sell Wii magazines would be very happy.
- freetyme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1maybe because the Metroid Prime rumor was based off of nothing than 1 Best Buy page, for preorders.
- mornif, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, this is a pretty old story to be making the front page of Digg.
- aptiva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1because block is easier to comprehend than kb
- Jezmund, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hey i am glad they copied them, I would rather get this then some other lame channel release.
- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1avidlinuxuser
Thanks. Of course, that was the one place I did not look... - avidlinuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@MrSidnet Where it says German Source, the words are a link.
- Exhaust, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Why is everyone is talking about whether its confirmed or not?
Is this so crazy of an idea? God damn they should already have demos available. Since day one. What the hell is so complex about serving demos? We going to have to type in a 16 digit number to Friend up with the Nintendo server?
I own a Wii and really like it. Certainly worth $250 but I'm starting to get impatient with Nintendo and their online service. Overpriced classic games, no multiplayer games for several more months and freakin Wii Codes!
The bar is so low for Nintendo's online service people are actuallly debating whether this is true? It's a rumor.... I got a rumor... At some point in the future Nintendo will have downloadable content expansions for games...... Is it true?? DA DA DAAAAAAAHHHH -
