QuakeCon 2009 Announced, Quake Live soon

sk-gaming.com — id Software has announced the dates and first details of QuakeCon 2009. Id Software's upcoming browser-based upgrade to Quake 3, Quake Live, will have a prominent showing at the event.

    And for those who wonder what it's like: It's like an improved version of Quake 3 Arena, but launched with a browser. Well worth the effort for finding an invite.

  • Tecton1c, on 12/20/2008, -1/+3You need a computer from like the 1999-2000 era to play Quake Live...it's on the Quake 3 engine with some minor improvements. If you've bought a computer in the last 5 years you'll definitely be fine.

    Nothing's quite matched the feeling of the original in deathmatch yet. All the open source updates kind of suck as far as not-feeling-like-2001-material goes.

  • crushfan, on 12/20/2008, -0/+2Tecton1c, that's not entirely true. I have a 4.5 year-old computer and it was a bitch to get steady 125 FPS with config tweaking and stuff. Yes, it works -- but you need to tweak a little.

    woohhaa, my 128 MB graphics card handles it _fine_ but at least a 256 MB one would definitely make it much much better. (Other specs: 1 GB RAM, AMD 64 2.2GHz CPU)

    Yes, yes.. I need a new computer. :(

  • zigzagitry, on 12/20/2008, -0/+1Man I used to be a big fan of quake on pc, but nowadays I just can't play anymore. There's always some douche using wallhack and aimbot. I've migrated to playing cod4 on console where at least the cheating is somewhat negligible there.

    Check out vids on youtube artificialaiming, they already had aimbots for the beta of quakelive.
