- borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -2/+44Who the ***** ever said PC gaming is dead? Go on Steam server search or BF2 and you'll see how many thousands of people are playing PC games. Just because less games are being rolled out doesn't mean the PC is dying as a gaming device.
BTW...at least 3 of 4 console games are trash...most PC games are good. - crcurran, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35I love my Wii60 but my greatest hopes lie with the PC.
Quake Wars will hope fully kick ass!! along with many other great looking games on that list - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Why do people keep acting as if there is this huge number of people proclaiming PC gaming to be dead? VERY few people make that claim. And none of them have any expertise in the industry.
- mozillaman0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Knowing the past I would hazard a guess that half of these games will be on the 2008 line up as well.
- GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20It's just console gamers with their regular 'we're not jealous, PC Gaming is dying anyway'. They think that the specs on the consoles are way better than the PC because they were when they were first announced 3 centuries ago. What these people miss is PCs have already practically left the next gen consoles behind in terms of power and by the time we get to midway in the console cycle the PCs will be much more powerful again.
PC gaming will never die provided no-one makes actual good games for the console. Some of the arcadey stuff is fun but until I know I can get the likes of DoW and M2:TW I won't bother dropping my beige box just yet. Unfortunately the console scene is the place where people release as much cheap trash as possible and hope people buy. You have to be a genius just to wade through the junk to find the gems in the console world. At least PC gaming is cut throat and encourages companies that produce bad games to just go away and die somewhere. - GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Forget a PC, you'll need a time machine for that one ;).
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16I will always have a PC ready for gaming, waiting for the day that I get my hands on a copy of Duke Nukem forever.
- Burmask, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19Potential Apple buyers are you reading this?
- Monkeyget, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14It was first posted in april but it has been updated ever since.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14far from dead (though expensive) and guess what - comes with a fully working browser
how about that, heh? - rugger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13The idea that pc gaming is dying is silly. As long as there is a clear distinction between computers and game systems, computer games will be around. Worst case scenario it will be more of a niche market like it was in the early 90's.
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12What about Fallout 3!?!
FALLOUT 3 ANYONE? T_T? - NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Consoles are for women and children, just like Macs. Real men crave hardware upgrades and software conflicts.
- GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11You find FPS better with an analogue stick than with a mouse. Strange.
The mouse generally is much easier to control. Of course if your looking for a challenge then they should make a multiplayer FPS between consoles and PCs. Hell we could have the platform wars. - belfastbiker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8PC Gaming has been pronounced dying for years now.
It never will die.
My favourite games of all time are mostly computer based - Elite, Avalon, Quazatron (all Spectrum), Carrier Command (ST), Half Life 1+2, Oblivion (PC) .... only the likes of SNES Zelda and Twilight Princess make it from the consoles.... - Bartboy919, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10My wishlist:
Spore
Unreal 07
Crysis - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8PC gaming is "dead" because people are still enjoying games they already have instead of throwing away their whole computer and buying a new one every Christmas, and they're playing games they bought six months ago or longer which have real replay value.
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I second that.
I love my Wii60 combo. But no one will ever convince me that a FPS is played better with a gamepad. Besides the game, anyone who's ever done this will agree with me:
half the fun of PC gaming is building your own rig. Putting the pieces together, powering on, feeling the power.
I'm sorry, consoles don't give me that. They have their own strengths, but PC gaming will just never go away. - mr1337, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13On my list for '07: Age of Conan, UT2007, Crysis, Stalker, Natural Selection 2, Portal, HL2 Ep. 2, and heck, maybe even Team Fortress 2 just because the first one got me into modern FPS gaming. (Been playing TFC almost since it first released.)
/me cherishes his GeForce 7950 GT ^_^ - treetree888, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You are missing the point of why PC gaming has a rougher time than consoles, and why the industry would like to pronounce PC games 'dead.' The benefit of consoles is consistency. Developers have to design their engines for one set of hardware, and one controller. This is opposed to a PC where they must rely on the 'lowest common denominator,' or risk alienating a big chunk of their fanbase. This brings up the point of controllers. Lowest common denominator on a PC is a mouse and keyboard, which just doesnt work for things like fighting games. Sure, they can require a controller, but once again, they are instantly ignoring a big chunk of the market. Past this, video card differences, processor differences, and overall machine spec differences make the development process hell. DirectX was supposed to normalize this, but has failed to do so thus far.
So, this is why gaming is 'bigger' on consoles than on PCs. I, personally, own zero consoles (except an NES) and would like to keep it that way, but as I get sick of tweaking every game that comes out for proper performance, I lean further and further towards a console. This is generally the idea of the gaming industry, as far as I can discern. - kirashira, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6All I want is Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3.
- TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Natural Selection 2?
Ha ha, that game won't be out for years, and I do mean years. Go read up on Flayra and Unknown World's, 2008, and thats a maybe.
And Quake Wars needs to be on this list, hands down, looks amazing. - Calypsoaf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I wish that Warhammer Online would of stayed independant instead of hooking up with EA, so much promise...
*weeps quietly over the corpse of Ultima Online* - madhaha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Anyone can write a game for the PC. The flip side is no-one has to follow your standards. You can take a multi-format release like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, plug in a wired Xbox360 controller into your PC with XP installed and it wil not only detect the controller, it will actually change the in game UI to the console version. Microsoft has provided the tools and they already work. They have also provided XNA platform for free which allows cross development between windows and the 360 so you'll probably be seeing more games that let you use a controller with zero configuration in the future. But it is totally unreasonable to expect any old 3rd party controller cobbled together from god knows what and out of date custom hacked taiwanese drivers to work with every single PC game given the depth of development. Frankly its a miracle that even indie developers support these frankenstein devices provided you remap the inputs. Yet you bitch. And at Microsoft.
- shugz601, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I can't wait for SPORE!!
- Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4All this does is makes me sad that I am still stuck with a 6600gt:(
- SkittlesUSA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4PC gaming IS far from dead.
I prefer gaming on PC over console. - mr1337, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8@shadowsword232
Bioshock IS on the list! It's just near the bottom of the page. C'mon people, is it really that hard to CTRL+F to see if your favorite '07 game is on the list? Numerous people have been asking about Bioshock. Maybe if you had been reading comments before posting your own, they would have answered your questions. Hopefully this comment will be kept dugg up so people that at least read this far will go back and see Bioshock.
BIOSHOCK IS ON THE LIST!!!
/rant - Stevethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I can't get how PC gaming is dying and how are there people believing something like this. PC IS the most productive gaming platform and apart from the few exclusives that consoles have PC gets ports from any other system in existence, hell even console exclusives come to PC sooner or later (take Halo series). Apart from Gears of War and/or Resistance, there is nothing appealing to me in the "next gen" consoles, not even their hardware as it is weak compared to my PC's (Wii is another story of course).
What gaming consoles always offered was affordability, but they hardly filled the needs of hardcore gamers, I don't expect this to change with this generation either. - lacronicus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6stupid? crysis, the best looking game to date, including anything set to be released on the 360, is on that list. stupid? Supreme commander, the biggest real time strategy game to date, with over 5000 units in a game? stupid? World of Warcraft? the most played online game ever? stupid? homemade games such as infinity that can map out hundreds of thousands of entire worlds seamlessly, all while providing a fast paced combat sim? stupid? wow. I dunno about you, but that sounds pretty good to me.
- d3sp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4
Hell Gate London and Crysis FTW! - mr1337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@TheG2
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is on the list.
(unless, of course, there's another game with a similar name that you're referring to.) - VeryAngryJim, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11because RTS rocks.
- jedioniram, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@mr1337
Unless things have changed Team Fortress 2 will be shipping for free with Half-Life 2 Episode 2. So, you get one, you get the other! I'm personally looking forward to it. - rasty, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Cool, but how come that 80% of the games are RTS?
- blankoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4only if Spore doesn't get EA's spyware treatment that is.....
- swiftekho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Most I'm hyped about > Spore Spore Spore Spore Spore Spore Spore Spore Spore Spore Spore Spore Spore Spore Spore Spore
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Not only is Starcraft the best RTS of all time, it is also one of the best games of all time. Period."
Starcraft was a great game, but the best RTS of all time is Total Annihilation.
A great TA player would WIPE the floor with a great Starcraft player in a test of strategy and tactics. Just because crazy South Koreans play it doesn't mean it's the end-all, be-all of RTS. - lacronicus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3if you add the 600 dollars you would spend on everything you need for a console to the 900 dollars one would (should) normally spend on a pc, you get a very good system capable of most any game out at good (med-high) settings. plus the 50 dollars a year you dont have to spend on xbox live, which comes out to a new top of the line gfx card every other generation. and thats not mentioning the hdtv that is necessary for some console games. dead rising required one, which brings our total to at least 900 dollars for a console setup if you only get a 20" display, which is considered the very low end, and given that many console gamers pride themselvews on their 50" setups that they got for the 360 (which were well over 2000 dollars at launch) you have over 2600 dollars that could be spent on a pc. that would get you an extremely good pc that could run ANYTHING at over 1080p. and i mean anything. ive played ocarina of time at 720p on my computer through an emulator. try that on your 360.
- modifiedbears, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3they beat you to this. the 'games for windows' series makes having a control scheme a standard thing.
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3PC's have such a market penetration it's nowhere near dying in entertainment. It has always survived new consoles in the past, understandably too. Sure, it can be a pain upgrading hardware now and then, but on the other hand, you always get better hardware on PC's quicker than on consoles besides in some rare circumstances when consoles are just released. They're also useful for so many applications besides gaming, and that versatility makes it even harder for them to "die", including as for gaming because it's not exactly uncommon for a family to buy 1 PC and using it for gaming as well as productivity. It's a synergy doing a lot of good for them.
As for these games, they look awesome, and I'll be happy to experience many of them with my upcoming PC.
I was mostly looking forward to Hellgate London and Spore before, but then again, I didn't know a lot of those, and especially the space games look intriguing due to the scarcity of great games in that genre. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5'Pwned' a short story by *flamebot*
mac guy>> look i can make cool videos, make a podcast and do stuff right out of the box
pc guy>> (too busy too respond because he is having way too much fun gaming)
mac guy>> well, at least I can play WoW
pc guy>> BOOOM! HEADSHOT!!
mac guy>> ...goes on *insert white noise here*...
*later, mac guy´s shiny mac book pro burns it´s lame graphics card because of 8 hours straight of WoW at extreme temperatures, so he goes to the nearest apple store (far, far away) to get a brand new mac book pro (because he can´t just buy a new graphics card and replace the damaged one)
* pc guy end his gaming session, creates a video/podcast on the remaining free time, goes out to meet girls (at this stage, mac guy is logging on to youtube and digg to post on how great macs are) - DoTheFandango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Where's Duke Nukem Forever?
- raindogmx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3OVERDOSE... so much, so good, so little time.
- madhaha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It was pretty established when Quake 3 for the Dreamcast came out and PC Quake players, Razer Boomslang in hand railgunned the hapless console players into submission although some of that could be attributed to the Dreamcast's crappy connectivity.
- xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Haha, I remember posting on this back in June, its an awesome List, and got me back into PC gaming a lot more.
- pozzoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is from 2006...

For those who still live in 2006. :D - GMorgan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Pity they are intentionally crippling it to only run on Vista really. It's a nice idea but I think they'll find the PC version to be much more responsive than the X-Box 360 version leaving the gap to be quite large.
Essentially you control velocity with an analogue controller. You directly control position with a mouse giving you more instantaneous control. With a console controller you have to adjust for overshoot by bringing the control to centre as you are turning to face your target. This not only slows down your targeting but far more is likely to go wrong. With a mouse you just point and shoot. - fufubag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Almost agree. Racing games are not better on consoles.
- Silt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Seems every month someone is saying PC gaming is dead, then a 20 page thread follows with heated discussion from console fanbois and PC gamers.
The way I see it, play what you want, and enjoy. Personally, I'll stop PC gaming when they pry my cold dead hands from my PC. I'm into RPGs and strategy games mostly, and for those, don't kid yourself, the PC is king.
For those other times when I feel like a FPS, again, I'd rather play on the PC. Keyboard/mouse vs. control pad? No contest. Been playing FPS online/via modem since Doom..what's that..15 years now almost? Always amazes me the Halo kiddies think that game created the online shooter. Yay for you..you can finally play online vs. others. Enjoy your time gaming vs the other 13 year olds on Xbox live.
For sports, fighting games, and racing games...sure the console is better...that's what it's designed for. Multi-person play has never been, and never will be, a strong point for the PC. For the times I want that I'll just head over to my buddies house and play his 360...though when I do I look thru his collection of 360 games(which is almost all of them) and I really see nothing I feel I'm missing out on. The ones that do look interesting have no depth..hell I can sit down without reading the manual on just about any console game and figure it out in 10 minutes..
BTW, to those claiming better graphics on the 360 and the 360 costs less. Sorry, but the 360 looks like ass on anything less than a high quality HDTV...which then puts you at a price point of a gaming PC...which can do much more than game. -
