Right now, everything is a scam, every company is being investigated and every blogger has the 'inside scoop' on some new secret.
It's not that hard to conceive that someone would actually believe something as blatently outlandish as this. I thought it was funny, but I could see someone actually putting this on the net claiming it to be real.
