Pre-Square Enix Party details: 3 new Star Ocean games, Last Remnant 360/PS3

thelastboss.com — The Square Enix 2007 Conference Report details are in, with 3 new Star Ocean games announced: 2 remakes for PSP, and a new Star Ocean 4. FFCC: Ring of Fates should be more of an RPG than the GC game, and the Wii FFCC game should be more of an adventure game. The Last Remnant was also confirmed as a 360/PS3 game. More details on other games as well.

    • RonPaulPres2008, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4The tactics remake is going to be amazing. It's such a shame that the Nintendo DS tactics game is a sequel to FFTAdance though. FFTA sucked but FFT the original was a classic. I'll be praying for a true sequel on consoles even though I know it will never be like the original because Square is different now. So sad.

      FF Tactics was little more than Tactics Ogre with a Final Fantasy theme layered on top of it (the two games were developed by the same developer, Quest). FFTA at least was original, in terms of look & feel and its own interpretation of the tactics battle system, rather than directly using Tactics Ogre's engine.
    • djSyndrome, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1FFT for the PSP has not been announced for a US release yet. That's not to say it's not coming - Square does like money, after all - but it's kind of odd that it's already out in Japan and there is *no* news of a localization process in place.

      FF1+2 Anniversary Edition - More ports of FF1+2, just the GBA version high-res.
      FF Tactics: The Lion's War - Yet another port.
      FF Dissidia - A Final Fantasy Smash Bros-style fighting game.

      The PSP's Final Fantasy line-up isn't as thrilling as the DS's line-up (FF12:RW and FF4 3D).

They probably wanted to announce their non-Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest games early so these games weren't overshadowed by the big games SE shows this weekend.

  • sictransit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3All I can say is Yay! I played the first Star Ocean with the Dejap ROM translation, and as my hat's off to those guys. Ahh, those were the days....*rambles away for a bit and then falls to sleep*
    And, Star Ocean *so* kicks Final Fantasy's ass...
  • SaintStryfe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Steek: Well, they've all ready announced KHII: Final Mix, which will include a re-done version of Chain of Memories for PS2 (with improved graphics), and new bosses and side-quests.

    KH3 is several years away. There is talk of there being another "inbetween" game like CoM was, possibly for the Wii.

      Last I heard it was just Japan, with no announcement of it being ported over..

      Source? It was announced as being for a portable. The specific platform was not mentioned.

    Reasons why people hate them now:

    1. FF VII remake - people have been asking for this for like 10 years, they wont do it.

    2. FF XII - a disgusting game for disgusting people that most people just hate. awful to its core.

    3. Feminization of male characters - no strong male jawlines allowed

    4. No more chrono sequels

    5. No Chrono remake

    6. they make lame games now.

    7. they rehash old games on portable systems.

    8. no ff6 remake

  • KenDigg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1It's a great time to be a Square Enix fan. Let people jump all over the fact that some of these games are ports. SE is making ports as well as making new titles, not instead of. My only complaint is they continue to announce new games but they still have yet to release games that were announced years ago.

    Here's to hoping that soon we'll be buried in SE goodness. FFTactics, FFXII RW, FF: Crisis Core and more! I can't wait.

    Anyone who played Star Ocean 3 would think that the story was pretty complete... or should I say, they didn't leave any room for a sequel because of the ummm... interesting plot-twist.
