- M00nshadow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How old is ping? :)
- FunHeadlines, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As a kid, my best pong memory was playing it in a bar (yeah, my dad snuck me in just so I could play this cool new toy, and the bartender was cool with it as long as I limited my whiskey intact to reasonable levels --- oh relax, that part's a joke...) and getting it set just right so that the pong ball would go back and forth forever between the two paddles. Then I would back away from the game, and watch the adults stare in wonder as they went by and saw this unattended game playing itself. Silly adults!

Quick poll between some fans about Pong:
Xbox360 fan: "What? No textures? No 3D graphics? I cannot see the pixel perfect cracks in the ball everytime it is hitted! Who would want to play it!?"
PS3 fan: "One processor for the ball, two processors for the paddles... I have 4 unassigned! Why would I play it?"
Revolution fan: "Why would I play pong if I can't control it with my hand?"
Another Revolution fan: "It is innovative! It doesn't have blood, gore, curses! For the family! It is my kind of game!"
GTA fan: "What? No blood, gore, curses? Who would want to play it!?"
EA fan: "Playing basically the same game with slightly updated graphics between versions again and again after 34 years... Yes! It is my kind of game!"
4 votes against 2. In other words, 50% of the people don't like Pong

- borderpatrol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Go pong!
- cosmicrob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holy crap!
Pong is one day older than I am.
We're like.. twins.. or something. - z.unit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0man i love pong, i actually still have a "text based pong t-shirt". the original site is gone but archive.org has it here: http://web.archive.org/web/20040724051421/http://www.karber.net/textbased/pong/
and another shout out to Pong Kombat, arguably one of the best parodies out there (if you can get it to run ;) )

- daze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i still had my pong until around 1984. dad and i pulled the old pong out of the closet to play and he got a little too into the game. ended up ripping the knob right off the console.
- Squeegee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 Shoot, I remember my family going to Sears to buy the first Pong
game. Hourse of fun with that. Wonder where it is. I guess it
got tossed out later. - jervana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey!
Happy 34 Pong. - dolby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am playing pong right now, go pong.
- ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Spacewar was the first game designed specificaly for that purpose, Higginbotham's tennis game was primarily a technology demonstration device and so was soon forgotten, but nonetheless is indisputably the first ever videogame.
Apologies for being pedantic. - theWaterboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's still the best game ever!
- daument, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I had one....jeez I'm geting old.

- hadak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0/me hides his pong screensaver
- kevinmoore, on 06/13/2009, -0/+0peeonyou, Activision made Pitfall, not Atari.
- ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was seriously wondering who would bring that up.
The first video game was created by William Higginbotham, for a 1960 university open day.
T'was appropriately, a tennis game.
(What are the chances of a Rockstar Games remake?) - ilselu1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hurray for pong, and now it's younger-smarter brother...
http://www.liquid.se/pong/pong.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Happy Birthday Pong!
- jpturner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sweet Jesus!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think I'd be a gamer if I started out playing pong. I woulda just held off until atari came out with some of their kewl games like Pitfall.
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love pong!
- peterhirschberg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0First *arcade game* was actually Computer Space. First videogame is somewhat unclear as it depends on your criteria for what constitutes a videogame, but it is usually considered to be Spacewar. But yes, Pong was the first commercially successful videogame.
- n3tfury, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0happy birthday pongeh
- orangetiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0and believe it or not, the first coin op pong machine filled so fast that the hopper overflowed with quarters on the thrid day that the machine failed.
- Ghostgum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Many happy returns Pong!

- BQ27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, I must be old!I remember pong when it was new! HB Pong!
- sirplus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh, wow! i played pong when it first came out, and man it was really fun. simple but it still stands up as an entertaining game. everything started to happen faster after that. space wars was not far behind. ok, anyone remember a game called Phoenix? with the hovering pod birds who erupted into porridge when you zapped em?
- terminalfreeze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Actually I'm gonna go ahead and undigg this since the site is
0&&parent.frames.length) { d=parent.frames[n.substring(p+1)].document; n=n.substring(0,p);} if(!(x=d[n])&&d.all) x=d.all[n]; for (i=0;!x&&i - stalkingu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0wow what a birth day. to think how far technology has come in that 34 years. from a square 'ball' to like games like FEAR and Far Cry
- toddm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0How does this stuff get dugg? 34 years? Yippie. If it were 30, 35, 40, et cetera then I could understand. But 34? Come on guys.
