- somesthetic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Sony said their production problems were over.
I guess they were telling the truth.
Good for them. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19I have a funny feeling this is a dupe, but I don't know why....
- NerveBand, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Man, I live in NYC and can't find a PS3 ANYWHERE. How are you guys doing it?
- TMelcher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I'll upvote you for not being hiveminded. I'm an Xbox 360 owner, and I'm tired of all of this "Sony sucks" stuff, not to mention the fact that digg refuses to accept any Sony product as quality anymore. I own a CyberShot camera and a WEGA HDTV, both of which are absolutely fantastic. Hell, if it gets some good games, I'll even invest in a PS3.
- Daedalus81, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"Those are empty boxes dumbass. EB always has empty boxes on display."
Nah, thats actually from my EB store. They had 7 in stock. The boxes displayed were empty boxes of course, but the sign was funny no less. :)
Anyway, another story like this today is a bit much. Lets just go play our consoles now. ok? : ( - edilclyde, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12i think its not the product, its the fact that after christmas, people are broke... i went to best buy yesterday and was shocked that there are only a handful of people inside.. and i live in LA
- nickstl77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Why do people keep digging the SAME OLD "OMG PS3'S WERE IN STOCK AT MY LOCAL STORE" *****.
This has to make the 20th article in the last 5 days about the exact same thing, the fact that someone managed to find PS3's in stock somewhere, and somehow its a huge news story.
If you even care about which gaming console is doing better than another, you should probably shoot yourself in the head along with any offspring you've produced. - ggriffit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10http://img15.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=92302_010107_14281_122_364lo.jpg
Same thing at Best Buy Store #17 - subject117, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Wow! A store has PS3's! That means the entire system will fail!
- MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Kotaku is looking to increase traffic by feeding ***** to the trolls. It never fails. The fact that no one is buying those units is because normal consumers are unaware of their availability. Those units will sell sooner or later.
- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm not sure if it's true if there's plenty of PS3's across the nation that are not selling, but what I am certain of is that there are 1,000 of these stories on digg and it's ***** annoying.
- gooch2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Fry's is one of the last bundle holdout places.
20GB Bundle = $900.00
69GB Bundle = $1000.00
You will see PS3s behind the cages at Fry's until they stop bundling - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10it makes them pointless because it's just an isolated incident but people are taking it like gospel.
- kettlechips, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9All the Best Buys I know about were closed today for New Years.
- FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@TMelcher
It's good to see I'm not the only person with common sense on Digg. - unusualbob, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11many times stores leave empty display boxes out to advertise the product although they have none. its very hard to get them in NC. stores get 1 or 2 a week. i have a friend who works in best buy who tipped me off about having 3 in stock, i got there in 5 min and there was only 1 left. Either this is BS or is in a place where no one has the money to buy one.
- jz68, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Seriously, is this what digg is all about? This is starting to look like the system wars forum over at Gamespot. Somebody please tell me I'm wrong.
- F9Phoenix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Please send those PS3s to NYC. WE NEED THEM!!!
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13FrankieB078 = pissed off PS fanboy.
- angrynori, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Can't find them here, either.
These articles are uber lame.
They were lame the first 5 million times they were posted.
They're still lame now. - xbob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6my locals Fry's has stacks in the cage behind the cashiers
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I would say this is sad.....but that would require me to have some sympathy for Sony
- shirosamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This same exact article with slightly different wording and a different URL is on the Digg homepage twice each day. Give it a damn rest, people.
- harrisonpowers, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8haha nice one
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Uh, perhaps because Best Buy was saving units and ALL stores had 25+ in stock yesterday....yet my Best Buy was sold out.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6ya but Fry's only sells in bundles, and those are crap.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8"It appeared he was also buying a Blu-ray movie and a copy of Madden for the system."
A Sony + EA whore...how touching. - razordancer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5They're sold out in my area as well. I also can't find a Wii, which I actually want to buy.
- LanceHardenburg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How many times do I have to say this????
"And once again I will say
'Erhhh, who cares? I work at best buy and we had plenty of the ps3 on the shelves on numerous occasions. Is this really something worth digging?'
I could go take some pictures when I go into work tommorow and post them on digg but I have better things to do beyond letting people know that stores have merchandise for sale. OMG Stores have items for sale I'm so taking a picture of this!!!!!" - cru99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5They had two 60gb PS3's at Target when I went today, but unfortunately, I didn't have the 600 bones to buy it,
well I did, but couldn't justify spending ityet....waiting for Assassin's Creed. - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Could you guys post where you live when you put these pictures up? Anyways, I'm happy with my Wii, my 360, and will be happy when my PS3 arrives. Stayed up all night on amazon.com only to have them release it in the last minute of a 4 hour long window. but the 60gb's still sold out in under a minute from how I saw it, 20's not as fast.
- rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3there a $100 dollars less in japan, soon they'll be here too if this keeps up.
- yoda715, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5LOL. "Please buy them!" Whenever I see a sign that says 'please buy', I never do buy. Those words always hint bad things.
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9It looks like EB Games is actually begging people to buy their PS3's...
http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/8659/ps3lu9.jpg - FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Well said. I agree 100%.
A price drop would be greatly appreciated as well. - brstilson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It's all preference dude. I just didn't enjoy the fact that the game in the store demo unit kept freezing. You'd think Microsoft made it.
- MateyO, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Okay, now that's just too damn funny. I have a sneaking suspicion I was at the SAME Best Buy... looks like _someone_ bought a PS3 after I took my shot.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/33743995@N00/341835399/ - drn666, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Buried as lame.
I saw 20 or so PS3's in my Best Buy a few days ago. When I finished lunch, 10 were gone already.
For every "i-am-a-loser-who-saw-some-PS3's-sitting-in-a-Best-Buy-and-figured-I could-get-to-the-front-page-on-Digg-by-appealing-to-the-moron-diggers-who-have-nothing-better-to-do-than-hate-on-the-PS3" post, I can given an example of PS3's selling quickly.
Quick polluting digg with this trash, haters.
The PS3 -is- selling. They've sold 1.2 million of them, at least. End of story.
Deal with it. - mc4_a, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I went to Best Buy this afternoon and they had plenty in stock. They actually had a whiteboard at the front of the store advertising it.
- bustaballs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't worry, PS3. Once Sony fixes you up, you get a decent library, and your price drops a good bit then I'll be sure to buy you!
- Jcsmooth52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Look all bias aside I am a gamer and a normal consumer. I own a Wii and a 360 I will more than likely own a PS3 but not until they have the games to justify the price tag. To be honest I was a little iffy about buying my Wii because 250 for gamecube graphics kinda turned me off. But I am a lot more willing to part with $250 than $600.
- mrkmrk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Could someone perhaps rehost that? The imageshack link has been dugg into oblivion :(
- Jeepxj206, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@ FrankieB078:
"The reason there are PS3's at the Best Buy in Poorest-town-USA is because no one can afford them."
"As I said below, if I had the cash I would own one, and I am sure millions of other people feel the same way."
So you are criticizing people that can't afford to buy a $600 PS3, then go ahead and admit that you cant afford one either..... riiiiiiiiight buddy.. - drn666, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The AI isn't better. They said it had 'improved threading', this is obvious, since the 360 needs threading to give it performance increases as it's whole 'thing' is that it has 6 hardware threads. They made this announcement at X06, so consider the venue and it's not a big deal.
The PS3 version may not be threaded at all .... it may just, say, be tuned to use all 6 of the available SPE's on the PS3. If that was the case, threadless and all, it would crush the 360 version computationally.
I'm not saying that's the case... just saying that 'improved threading' means nothing.
Am pretty sure Assassin's Creed on both platforms will be identical. - Qenton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Noooo not the cage.
Fry's + Cage = 3 hours waiting the DMV which is fry's to get it from the cage. - andreo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Why is it that every time one of these stores pop up someone says "they are just display boxes!".
Honestly now. Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, Etc. Places that put so much emphasis on maximizing shelf space is really going to clutter up the sales floor with a pyramid of empty PS3 boxes? I've seen this before at Gamestops, although normally in the display windows. But not at the big box stores. They just have better things to do with the free space, like put things there that they expect people to pick up and take to the register.
With that said. I've not seen any PS3 consoles here in Des Moines since launch. I've looked while doing my normal shopping. Over the past week I've been to: 1 Best Buy, 1 Toys R Us, 1 Wal-Mart and no extra consoles were around.
I've not checked other stores because, well, I already have my PS3 and Wii. But when I get really really bored. I will take a look at the Ebay situation and it doesn't look good for the scalpers. Oh well. - cyberwarriorx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@andreo:
I'm not sure if all the Best Buy's do this, but the one I work at has a ton of stuff on the floor before christmas and on boxing day. It's all because we have far too much stock and not enough room in the warehouse. Besides, considering the amount of sales during the season, it's more efficient to have product on the floor instead of constantly downstocking large products. Normally though, it is SOP to have no product on the actual floor. - Phoenixus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Story number 562113254 regarding PS3's sitting in stores.
My Wal-mart has 20 Xbox 360s just sitting there on the shelf....It appears no one has an interest in the console, must be selling poorly after Christmas. Just letting you guys know. - Matrix_Prime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2because they are stupid, and bought into the hype.
- davidszcz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think they were expecting them to be sold out immediately, so no use locking them up...
