- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+51Wow, never in my life have I seen someone misspell wait.
- StarWarsFever, on 10/12/2007, -8/+30I can't wait for Nintendo to Wii Wii all over Sony next week...
- TheBrandman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Why is it that the first comment is almost always the most insipid and crudely spelled of the batch? Is it because they're trying to hard to be first on the list that they forget how to be coherent or is there some filter that makes their comment ludicrous for our reading pleasure?
- Supermanii, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11As long as the controller doesn't look like a banana I'll be happy.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I love when people try to get elitist on video games. Video games are TOYS. You are a grown adult (well maybe not) making fun of someone else's TOY. Just stop and think about that for a few minutes, k?
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Good one.
Anyway, Sony's going to have a -lot- of attention. I'm personally excited about the Wii and the PS3, but I guess that's beyond some people.
Microsoft honestly is going to be the one struggling for attention. - slash101, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Best hope that Halo 3 isn't just the same game play and such as Halo 2 / 1
- ptbw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I bet the only reason why we haven't heard anything from Sony is because they _don't_have_anything_to_show_. Duke Nukem Forever and PS3 will probably share a booth. Maybe I'll be surprised.
- snak3st, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Hoping to see some new videos or news on MGS4.
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14record sales != good game
- flyer590, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"The Playstation 3 is literality bursting with cutting edge features..."
I sure hope it isn't! - Cyborg771, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Thank you, it is a bit confusing seeing as how we shut down about the same time that you started up.
- Worrok, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Indeed, one might go so far as to say that record sales are completely irrelevant to videogames.
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I agree with EscapeArt1st.
Literally is used for an exaggerated effect. Figuratively would've worked in the first example, but to say that people were "figuratively wetting themselves" does not have the same effect, and just sounds kind of perverted.
No one who reads this article will actually think the PS3 explodes when you turn it on or that people are peeing themselves at E3. Exaggeration. - slash101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I gotta agree with StarWarsFever though, I think the Nintendo Wii will be good, I've never really been interested in the PlayStation or the Xbox, I find those consoles just to be about fancy graphics and such, the Wii, in my opinon, is all about fun, and that my friends is what I want to have! Fun! Now I'm not denying that the PS3 will be a success, because it almost certainly will be.
- EscapeArt1st, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5'Literally' can actually be applied in this context as it applies to the symbolic description of an event exaggerated to prove a point and or occurrence, where sarcasm may have been used in conversation.
Another problem is local dialect and mannerisms that occur on the net with difference accepted English writing styles.
I accept your criticisms; however when you make such comments a little tact would not go amiss. - cyrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Am I the only one not thrilled with the idea of a self loading disc tray?
- zbose, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13@phpirate
I don't understand why everyone thinks Halo 2 was so awesome looking. Sure it looked good for an xbox game, but it was pretty awful compared to PC games being released at the time (Far Cry). And I understand that an xbox is much less than a powerful PC, etc etc. My point is simply that the graphics were not impressive. - slash101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Heh, Cyborg I'll remember to add something about us not being affiliated with GamersDaily.tv if we submit another digg story.
- HotGore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Another ignorant fan boy comment against Nintendo.
- slash101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I've seen some extremely crude photoshop edits of the controller... very... very disturbing.
- slash101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've noted what you've said and will make sure to make all our articles fit the standard of what people want, thank you for pointing this out.
- slash101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Ahh wow that is kind of confusing Cyborg, how come you guys shut down anyway?
E3 is just so close now, I really can't wait for the flood of information, expect some round ups from GamersDaily. - dobesov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Man I am really getting tired of this overheating stuff. I own an xbox360 (Which will soon become known as first generation) and I have never had any heating issues. After literally 8 hours of Oblivion it still doesnt have problems. First generation anything is going to be wrought with trouble and as we should all know with CPUs some don’t roll off the assembly line in perfect working thermal condition, but that does not belie the nature of the system. Goodness knows I have had DVD players that overheat…
Sometimes I feel like we have improper expectations still drawing back to the days when a 5 mhz chip with no heat sink ran our consoles…
Oh an did anyone notice that the RAM specs in the article were wrong? - Warptera, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Heh, from the title, it sounded like you meant that all their PS3's broke down. I was like, "wtf?!"
- slash101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@fzzzy it has been a while since I've seen them, and I can't remember the links... It'll probably be on google somewhere.
- EscapeArt1st, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Agreed the Wii is an interesting console, but Sony have a lot going for the PS3 and I think it would be foolish to right such technically impressive machine and all the first party games so soon.
I hope you enjoy the article and at least find some of the more cutting comment justified. - Cyborg771, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Once again I would like to state that this website has no affiliation with GamersDaily.tv or the Gamers Daily podcast.
- Cyborg771, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, and I thought that I was a fanboy.
- slash101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Hmmm the MGS4 Videos I have seen do look pretty decent! My friend is a MGS fanatic, I'll no doubt have to play this when he gets the PS3, MGS3 was fun, I have to admit that (or my friend would kill me!)
- ptbw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2coke...all over the monitor. nice one
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ahaha, hide the cat!
- gabebear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The real frequency for the XDR RAM is 400 Mhz, but it transfers 8 bits per clock so you can call it 3.2Ghz.
The specs are otherwise identical to wikipedia's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3 - gabebear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The GPU(RSX) can render out of main memory, although the latency will be higher. I don't know why ^cyrix is being so snooty because the article didn't explain that at all.
- gabebear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yep, same here, I'm still hoping they redesign it to use the same tray as the little PSTwo.
- cyrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No. And obviously you didn't read the article correctly.
- dioscaido, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lit·er·al·ly ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ltr--l)
adv.
1. In a literal manner; word for word: translated the Greek passage literally.
2. In a literal or strict sense: Don't take my remarks literally.
3. Usage Problem.
a. Really; actually: “There are people in the world who literally do not know how to boil water” (Craig Claiborne).
b. Used as an intensive before a figurative expression.
Usage Note: For more than a hundred years, critics have remarked on the incoherency of using literally in a way that suggests the exact opposite of its primary sense of “in a manner that accords with the literal sense of the words.” In 1926, for example, H.W. Fowler cited the example “The 300,000 Unionists... will be literally thrown to the wolves.” The practice does not stem from a change in the meaning of literally itselfif it did, the word would long since have come to mean “virtually” or “figuratively”but from a natural tendency to use the word as a general intensive, as in They had literally no help from the government on the project, where no contrast with the figurative sense of the words is intended. - slash101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There are plans to make a banner that cycles through several different images.
- passivejj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The GPU description says "512 MB of Graphics Render Memory". Later on for RAM it says "256 MB DRAM clocked at CPU die speed (400 MHz) and a further 256 MB GDDR3 VRAM clocked at 700 MHz on the main board." So are they saying 512MB for the GPU and 512MB for the system? I heard 256MB for each?
- balloot, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4What a poorly written article. In addition, it uses my biggest pet peeve TWICE. That is, the use of "literally" when the meaning is "figuratively."
"The Playstation 3 is literality (sic) bursting with cutting edge features ranging from the Bluetooth controller connection to the HDMI ports."
That's weird - it sure looks to me like the casing holds together quite well.
"Before the great blackout that followed E3, were those terrific E3 [05] demos (Killzone, MotorStorm) that made all that watched them, literally wet themselves in anticipation."
I had no clue that E3 consisted of video game writers all hanging out and soiling themselves while watching demos. That convention center must smell like an old folks' home... - tylerni7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://the-magicbox.com/0505/ps37.jpg that is what it is supposed to look like, or possibly http://playstation3.wordpress.com/files/banana.jpg .....
- losvedir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, I do seem to remember reading something a month or so back that the Playstation 3 is literally bursting at the seams. That is, the cases they've shown us are too small to hold all the components they're promising. I can't find the link to the joystiq or kotaku article, though.
- bchang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They have an advertisment for Pre Ordering Starcraft Ghost thats a no go.
- bignate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I disagree strongly that MS is behind PS3. The hardware diffs between the two systems is MARGINAL (especially considering the recent upgrades announced for 360). XBOX is a strong leader in the console market because they've invested a LOT of time in developing the Live system, which kicks the ***** out of anything Sony's come up with in the way of multiplayer.
That having been said, I don't own a 360, nor do I plan to anytime soon (nor a P3, for that matter). I AM looking forward to the upcoming releases by the only true innovator in the console market, Nintendo. It's gonna be a huge week. - fzzzy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1link!
- dioscaido, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@distrbnce: "Also, as for Sony's online multiplayer, it looks to be just as comprehensive as Xbox Live, only online play is free. So what are you talking about?"
All we know about Sony's online offering is essentially sony saying "Oh yeah, we'll have an xbox live clone, and it will be better, and free." Lets be honest, would you be surprised if Sony may be overselling their solution a bit? How about we wait to see what they actually come up with. It's not that easy to build up an online play system. MS has the advantage of being well into version 2 of their offering... whereas sony's will essentially be a Beta at release. - phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -11/+11Halo 1 was a huge success. Halo 2 was an even bigger success (despite all the whining that was going on, it completely killed all the other games in sales and its still one of the most popular games played), and whatever they do next, I just can't wait. They totally rocked with the visuals on Halo 2 on the orginal xbox, I can't even begin to imagine what they're doing on the 360.
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Okay, well we'll know for sure in 3 days.
Phil Harrison said they have been working on the online service since just after the release of the PS2 Network Adapter.
But you're right, all we have for the next few days is what Phil Harrison outlined and pictures of it in games. - v0yeur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's off the main topic, but anyone else get to the end of Halo 2 and think to themselves: "that's it?!?"
something about that ending felt unfinished, not like a REAL cliffhanger. My feeling is Halo3 will really be Halo2.5 - Bigcat151, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"In a recent article, we learnt that the Playstation 3’s backward compatibility will be dealt with by an emulator."
I know learnt is considered correct in British English but it still doesn't settle well with my grammar radar -
