- johlorax, on 06/18/2008, -1/+53Hmmm, wonder if the inverse is true. If I take up smoking and excessive eating, will that help me kick my addiction to casual gaming?
- Vorin, on 06/19/2008, -0/+20Drugs are my Anti-WoW.
- brandanf, on 06/18/2008, -3/+22I know that i smoke alot more while gaming. In my opinion getting out of the house is the best way to kick a bad habit.
- Praetor1684, on 06/19/2008, -6/+22You think your addicted?! You ever Smoke dick for games?
- PhonicUK, on 06/19/2008, -1/+9Seem's like you're just replacing one habbit with another? Or I rather suspect on an emotional basis its one 'comfort item/action' with another...
- dudefather, on 06/19/2008, -1/+7kick the cigarette habit, get addicted to peggle
just as planned... - calibration, on 06/19/2008, -1/+6Have you ever learned to reply to the correct comment?
- bman1984, on 06/19/2008, -1/+6I agree. Sometimes when I am gaming I forget to smoke. I also used marijuana and video games fairly heavily to get over cravings for cocaine.
- 1337d00d, on 06/19/2008, -1/+6I quit doing drugs when I started playing MMORPGs. Nothing has really changed though. I still live in my own filth, and now I just give all my money to gold farmers instead of drug dealers.
- ThantiK, on 06/19/2008, -2/+7I have to agree. Playing World of Warcraft has helped me kick all sorts of bad habits! - Everything from smoking, drinking, hanging out with friends, that pesky eating habit, I've even kicked the habit of sleeping (almost entirely!)
Now, there's that pesky goblin from Booty Bay in my room again, excuse me. - flowaus, on 06/19/2008, -1/+6Nup - still masturbating!
- chicaneuk, on 06/19/2008, -2/+6To put this on its head, my flatmate (a casual gamer) recently decided to take up smoking for no apparent reason.
No, I didn't see the point either. - mrzeero, on 06/19/2008, -1/+5Jack Thompson is going to be all over that one.
- inactive, on 06/19/2008, -0/+4Doesn't help me kick back my gaming habit though does it?
- bman1984, on 06/19/2008, -1/+5You are correct. There are natural ways which trigger dopamine release in the brain. There are chemical ways of doing so as well. Exercising is another way to kick addictions, but video games is way easier.
- TwoKill, on 06/19/2008, -1/+5I'm pretty sure all addictions can be kicked through other addictions, isn't that the idea of the nicotine patch.
- BigCheezy, on 06/19/2008, -2/+6Replace one addiction with another :/
- KaiUno, on 06/19/2008, -1/+5CrossworDS is keeping an eye on you. You think you turned off your DS? Think again.
- futoranime, on 06/19/2008, -1/+4http://www.dsfanboy.com/2008/04/17/show-and-tell-t ...
Did and done. Also, a quit smoking game is coming out this year from Ubisoft for the DS. - GordonClass, on 06/19/2008, -2/+5Anything that takes your mind off your bad habit will help you kick it.
- shondell, on 06/19/2008, -3/+6OH MY GOD. I just finished the game, I think it was the only time I have ever cried playing a ***** video game. The game is perfect in every way possible.
It makes me sad because this is how games should be made today. Developers nowadays just crank out ***** games almost monthly just to make money. ***** that *****. Kojima is a ***** genius. No game(s) can compare to the Metal Gear Solid saga, nothing comes close. - BoSuu, on 06/19/2008, -1/+4I am a hardcore gamer that tried to play some casual games. Now I am addicted to both. WHAT NOW?
- KaiUno, on 06/19/2008, -1/+4Yeah, but did it get you off the crack pipe?
- SharkyTech, on 06/19/2008, -1/+3I can hear Jack Thompson now: "Casual gaming=methadone"
- YellowSnowDemon, on 06/20/2008, -0/+2MGS4 is deep and involving. Other games are not.
- Barackalypse, on 06/19/2008, -1/+3I'll also bet it helps people in pain too, because it distracts them from it. Can I have $500k to study this and publish my results?
- djpray2k, on 06/19/2008, -1/+3I used to like playing online casino games and while I wasn't harcore I thought this is a bit of a waste of money - but I enjoy it. So After being out of gaming for a while I bought an Xbox (think it was 2004/2005) and thought I'd rather spend £100 on this - In the end it stoped me throwing money away online (no comments about Xbox Live ok!). So I think its true, if you need a distraction its a pretty harmless one.
- Marijuana, on 06/19/2008, -1/+3MSG4 stopped me from smoking weed, not that it's a bad habit...
- DirtySanch, on 06/19/2008, -1/+3I tried to quit smoking then was on and off for about 6 months, actually controlling it. Now I'm just sick of it. Nothing about it is appealing to me anymore. Running is what helped me quit the most. Actually seeing first hand how poorly my lungs functioned was reason enough. Any kind of exercise or light exercise to get the adrenaline going helps.
- coyote1284, on 06/19/2008, -1/+3Only in Soviet Russia...
- Kornstalx, on 06/19/2008, -2/+4Games ever smoke dick for you?
- toker200, on 06/19/2008, -0/+1Nope I smoke just as much playing as not so there's no difference really.
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+1It's largely a matter of logistics, at least for me. I always say that gaming is a low-calorie activity because you really have to work at it to game and snack (gluttony - my favorite deadly sin) at the same time - especially if you're a console gamer. Reading and watching TV, on the other hand, are high-cal, because the don't occupy my hands. If distraction were the main factor, popcorn wouldn't sell well in movie theaters. =P
- inactive, on 06/19/2008, -0/+1I cried at the end of Final Fantasy X.
- tonytheshoes, on 06/23/2008, -0/+1Yup, running or any other physical activity is pretty much tailor-made for smoking cessation. Not only does it make you realize how badly smoking affects you, but it also helps you eat up some of that nervous, anxious energy and seething anger you feel for the first few weeks when you stop.
Also helps combat the potential weight gain that often goes along with the whole process. - atact88, on 06/19/2008, -1/+2It's all about distraction, not the activity. Anything that holds your attention will help.
- lukeyd2006, on 06/19/2008, -1/+2I smoke, usually quite regularly. Though when I play video games, I do find that I don't crave nicotine, even after a good few hours. Though when my session is done, I light up :)
- InsaneOni, on 06/19/2008, -0/+1Wouldn't it have been more fun to play the game while stoned? I know I always light up before playing a new game.
- hellbent187, on 06/21/2008, -0/+1BS. That report is stupid it's not true.
- broodking, on 06/19/2008, -1/+2lol a few of ppl on wow smoke
eg "brb going for a smoke" - dafragsta, on 06/19/2008, -1/+2Yeah, but what do you do with your life then? Play casual games all day? Life is moving from one addiction to another, be it a substance or an activity. The trick is being nimble when moving between them.
- SharkyTech, on 06/19/2008, -0/+1"Life", thats that new one isn't it? You snort it in much the same way as "Fresh Air" I think.
- MrVeal, on 06/19/2008, -1/+2When I'm at home and bored I used to go out for drinks and dinner, that got expensive. Then I bought WoW and I noticed a spike in savings.
- LiquidShield, on 06/19/2008, -0/+1You see him too... Half the time its gnomes trying to steal my underpants...
- Chris4, on 06/20/2008, -1/+2STFU?
- 3tcp, on 06/27/2008, -0/+1This article made me want to go out to buy a pack of parliament lights and bag of cheetos to smoke and eat while playing 'dice wars'.
- secondwheel2, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1well you can end up dead, addiction solved.
- Zihuatanejo, on 06/20/2008, -0/+1It's obviously Big Tobacco's fault.
