- Undead98, on 10/12/2007, -8/+52I can finally say Sony is headed in the right direction. They have been through a great deal with people complaining and this seems to be much more then anyone expected. I, for one, am looking forward to using it in the Fall. Hopefully this will sell more PlayStation 3 systems between now and then!
- johngardiner, on 10/12/2007, -4/+46lol its not related to the dashboard.. the XMB is.. this relates to live and it does indeed look cool... props to sony. I just hope its as functional and practical as xbox live and ill keep my fingers crossed!
- charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -13/+45It makes Mii's look silly is what it does. I say this as a happy Wii and PS3 owner. This is something that's actually useful. So far Mii's are funny and were entertaining for a few minutes, but outside of that there isn't much use for them. They look like tinker toys compared to the PS3's new system.
- sysoprock, on 10/12/2007, -28/+55Dear PS3 Owners,
Since all of our third party dev's left us, you're going to have to keep yourselves entertained.
Please enjoy our Phantasy Star-esque lobby and try not to end up on "To Catch A Predator" if you can help it...
Thanks,
Sony - gt3k, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32Neat idea... hopefully Sony can avoid the pitfalls Second Life has fallen into.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+34no one talking is a bad thing? *****, i prefer that to 12 year olds screaming
- Jiffylush, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32Well, they said I would be very happy this week and I am.
Basically because when I leave work I am picking up Motorstorm.
Some of this looks like it might be cool, but this stuff should be an afterthought, not a focus. (it is a gaming console not some sort of myspace 3d emulator) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -23/+47I am so proud to be a PS3 owner right now *sniffs*
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -15/+37It's funny to find people scrambling for bad things to say about this development..
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+29"A "live" like online service. Check."

"A system to "track game achievements" Check"
E-penis was launched with internet 0.1 alpha. Check. - psycho79, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Depends what you mean by out. It's not even launched in all territories yet (says the UK guy).
- i4mt3hwin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18I love how the first piece of good news for sony hits the front page like 5x today. It is pretty sweet though.
- swrostmore, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18its not a game, fool, its an interface to the playstation network. imagine if XBL, only instead of menus and chatrooms you have a massively multiplayer environment.
- 2ndrookie, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23I agree 100%.
- sparkalex, on 10/12/2007, -10/+25Looks great and its free. The only reason I dont play online games is because of the subscriptions.
I just may have to pick up a PS3 sometime in the near future.
- A Wii Owner - catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17It won't be as bad because sony can ban a user's PS3 entirely.
- ironrex, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17"(it is a gaming console not some sort of myspace 3d emulator)"
Its thinking like this that stalls revolutions in the gaming industry. Let them try new things if they want to! - KenDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Sony will never render "Microsoft's garbage can of a console obsolete." It will still be a decent console, no matter how well it does.
That said, it is quite enjoyable to see all this positive Sony news on the front page while all the fan boys struggle out: "But-but-but-It's still expensive!" - cbreaker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Well, it doesn't really look like a clone of Second Life. It looks like anything you'll get in there will be a result of some form of micropayment to Sony at their in-game store. I doubt I'll ever pay anything to have some virtual apartment on a virtual PS3 world, but it looks like the free stuff is going to be pretty fun to play around with. I think it's a great idea if for nothing else but to be able to find people to play games with.
And it's no monthly fee. Sure, the PS3 is expensive, but this does count for something.
Unfortunately, I'm guessing chatting with people will be frustrating, since most won't have keyboards. But, you can use a Bluetooth or USB headset and/or keyboard, and those are pretty cheap now, so who knows.
This, plus Linux, plus some of the really kickass looking games on this system make it a really neat system in my opinion. I can't wait until a store around here actually stocks one! - ripper365, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19Actually, tubejay, it's been out nearly 1/3 of a year.
- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19I thought it was a blu-ray player. Or some sort of computer. Or some kind of pseudo-entertainment system. This week it's a games console?
- franksmith, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Well... I for one do not have a life.
I think it looks great! - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"I thought it was a blu-ray player. Or some sort of computer. Or some kind of pseudo-entertainment system. This week it's a games console?"
It is and has always been all of the above, Blu ray works fine, all my media and data works fine and I am sure enjoying VF5. Getting motorstorm asap. - DarkStalker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11You don't. There's just additional stuff you can add-on if you choose to.
- dephrye, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Wow, now that is looking amazing. Congrats to Sony. I wonder if the character you create. will be compatible with future/current games. And how (if) it will interact with the PSP.
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12You own a home but can't save $600 over a period of months? Where did you learn financial theory? At a casino?
$600 is not that hard to save if you really try. And if $600 is impossible to save then you need to focus on something else other than video games/media centers, like maybe focusing on improving your financial situation.
Oh, yea, I get the sarcasm - 2ndrookie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Honestly, f*ck Miis. I have both a Wii and PS3, and 5 times out of 10, Miis don't even look like the actual player anyways. Sure their cute and all, but I don't understand why everyones hating on Sony for doing this... remember people, it's FREE... if you don't want it, then don't DL it. Go play some Wii Bowling then. Sheeesh. It's amazing how hard it's to please some of you people... ugh.
- truspector, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14@darkcyde
No one talking in a team strategy game and running around pulling a Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeroy Jenkins sucks. You have the ability to mute 12 year olds, use it. - Boyblundr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11It's funny all the douchebags that say "oh this ripped off second life" and "Oh, they're copying wii because you can have an avatar" and that kind of stupidity. I, personally, this this is incredible. I can't ***** wait.
- Brew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Wow I am impressed, it is a really ambitious idea Sony is trying to put together, I hope they can actually pull it off. Except If it does there goes 600 of my hard earned dollars. Damn you Sony, giving me a reason to want to buy your system.
- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11or get an Xbox and pay $100 for Wifi, $50 a year for Xbox Live, purchase points that don't reflect the value of your money, and watch movies in HD for an extra $200.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Well since there are public and private areas. I wonder what kinda private things they'll let people do in the private areas.
- Futurama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I dislike the PS3, but this really does look cool.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9You're not allowed to complain. Us PS3 owners have seen "Omgz, 30 PS3's available in *store X* Sony = LIARS!" on the front page probably more than 100 times.
- DAVIBE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The part I LOVE is ..........its FREE!
- Blue_Eon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I would consider myself a Nintendo fanboy (although I do play my PS2 quite a bit), but I'm an even bigger fanboy of gaming and new ways of bringing gamers together. This does seem like a good idea and I hope Sony can make it work.
I really have to give them kudos on this. - steverl22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8So much hate for sony around here that even great news gets twisted by the "Diggers"......Sad really.
- ontain, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9If i need to buy any virtual items to take advantage of this community then it's worthless.
- manicdvln, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9After seeing this and littlebigplanet, I am done with Nintendo, i've been a loyal customer since colleco ninty games, no more.
Nintendo failed to give us reasonable next-gen gfx. Failed to give us HD resolutions. Failed to deliver their online promise. Failed to keep Wii exciting with good amount of quality titles for each month, we are once again facing a software drought. On top of that, Nintendo also failed in originality and innovation upon their new controller, I see nothing but ported games with gimmicky controllers. Yes, I know some Nintendo titles are truely being made for the Wii, even so, I dissapointed to say we will see nothing but mario, metroid and zelda spam. What happened to new original titles like pikimin?
Frankly, I say bravo to Sony, for building an immersive online experience for free as well creating new original titles like littlebigplanet and locco rocco. I praise Nintendo only for their new motion sensing controller, other than that, they pretty much failed to impress in any other domain. - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sony would be stupid not to include microtransactions to support this system. According to what they've said, money will not be used in anything in the general system, but you might have to pay for premium additions on your character or in your house.
That is - you'll get the complete experience without money, but if you want to wear a suit of armor around and wield a flaming sword or something you'll be paying a bit extra for it. - hulk, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11All I know is I'm not going to go spend realworld $ on some bullsht furniture for my virtual apartment.
- Gio14, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7WOW, did somebody say next gen?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6All Nintendo now has to do is ditch their sorry ass of an online system and come up with something that unites gamers online.
I'm very shocked that nothing on the Wii is multiplayer and rather user-unfriendly when it comes to the online stuff (the wii # is ridiculous) - Boyblundr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's optional to use Playstation Home.
- quentinp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Wow, this looks very intriguing. If they do this right, and when some decent games start popping up for the PS3, this could get me to buy. (Well maybe after a price drop or two heh)
- Phoenixus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yeah. I'm tired of this copying BS.
Do mii's that much customization on their character? No.
Does the sim's have a trophy room, and all videos and music to be shared? No.
Does Xbox live have anything exactly like this? No.
It would be copying if Sony made a service called Playstation Live, and it looked EXACTLY like XBL. Otherwise, it's not. - Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You don't have to use it.
- Phoenixus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Then don't. And that means you lose the privilege of complaining about it.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8This actually looks pretty awesome and if it turns out to be good I'll be missing it on XBLive.
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8ITS OVER. MICROSOFT AND NINTENDO ARE FINISHED.
