- JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -20/+181Geez...you guys are never happy
- readme, on 10/12/2007, -6/+124Unlike Xbox Live, people can see that I am white and stop calling me the N word.
- timmyboywonder, on 10/12/2007, -7/+110C'mon pull your collective heads out of your asses. I for have not been happy with the way that Sony has been doing things lately. But I think that this is a pretty cool thing that they are trying to do. Hopefully they don't find some way to mess it up before its release
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+98I have been a big Wii lover and a big Sony hater...but the Miis just got pwned!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -23/+98This looks exactly like Phantasy Star Universe. And I mean EXACTLY. Every single feature shown here exists in the lobby sections of that game, and looks and functions in the same way as well. The only difference is that Phantasy Star Universe has a distinct Japanese art style, whereas this is very much Western-looking.
That means one thing:
Whoever chooses to look like a girl will be followed around by about 5-10 men soliciting naked pictures. Everyone else will mill around aimlessly, staring at the surrounding graphics until boredom a few minutes later. Good times. - miketheburrito, on 10/12/2007, -13/+83I was expecting something really dumb for PlayStation Home (seeing how Sony developed it and everything), but this is actually a pleasant surprise.
- JimmyB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+70Ok guys, come on. I'm a 360 owner, also a European and thus have had quite a lot of Sony hate in my blood for a while now. This however, is quite redeeming. Its like high res Second Life meets Nintendo's Miis meets Xbox Live Achievements (trophies). I gotta admit, a PS3 is looking more tempting now that it looks like there will be a decent online community feature. Also, at the moment it is intended to be free of charge, which is never a bad thing.
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -4/+64Sorry for the comment abuse, but IGN has a 3 page article with much more detail:
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/770/770998p1.html
Sounds really cool!
EDIT: make that written detail, you can still watch the video on this link. - Ryokenshi, on 10/12/2007, -11/+71Great, reminds me of second life...But hey , its free. Who can complain?
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -6/+55It pains me to say this.... but it actually looks pretty cool.
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -15/+62You know, most people are very excited about this. The angry little corner you trolls hang out in is getting very small.
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -14/+59Why on earth would that pain you?
Just be a happy geek for once and get off the gloomy anti-sony bandwagon. - aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42You do know seccond life wasn't the first to try this right? They were just the first to actualy suceed and make it popular.
And now.... (drum roll) My first positive PS3 comment on digg (boo's and hisses) I know I know, But this is actually a very good idea, that seems to be executed rather well.
A little too commercial for my tastes and and the users will probably wreck it (I'm imagining 400 people all doing the same dancing animation and shouting "*****!@" with personal pictures to match.
Mainly the personal home seems like a great idea, if it really allows you to share media remotely and all that, keep a video room, very good ideas. An integrated online home media center metaphor, would actually have a legitimate use. The public spaces... will probably be less frequented. (assuming we can have our own pool tables)
Very un-sony, but imagine being able to buy virtual console titles, setup an arcade in your home, invite people over, and they can play your systems while your online. - vampiro852002, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40I own all three systems, and I am very excited about this. I don't understand all of the fanboy BS that is on this thread. If you don't like the PS3 don't read about it, or post about. I love my 360, and my Wii. But, I don't feel the need to trash other systems.
- keybsnbits, on 10/12/2007, -2/+39Yeah this just might be the killer app for PS3... I'm intrigued. If they get the games to back up the network, count me in.
- smartsingh24, on 10/12/2007, -4/+40They aren't half assing anything, they're just being hardcore. If you were hardcore like me, you could see that :D
- TRUEPATRIOT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39i said same till i read that there is ads =/ i still want it though now to get a ps3
littlebigplanet looks good too.
best line from vid is "infinetly more exciting than anything available on other consoles"
ahhh sony sure knows how to brag =) - BigLou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37Could we please put aside our hate for the PS3 and look at this objectively? If you can honestly do that, you'll notice that this PS3 Home is quite an unusual and remarkable system. It looks like they're trying to emulate the good things about LIVE, but build on top of that. If this actually works out, I may start to get on Microsoft's back about doing something more innovative. This could potentially be a very deep game within itself, and the best part is that it's completely free. Now, of coarse I realize you will probably have to purchase a few things here and there, but it sounds like an excellent deal for now.
- RooDoG, on 10/12/2007, -3/+38@ sultantraviI
No, they are digging you down because of your arrogance and the fact that you are closed minded. - zerokill, on 10/12/2007, -12/+43jzs its xbox live in 3D. check out gametrailers video of Home. Its amazing.
- HeadBussa, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32Wow!! this is the best virtual social network I've ever seen. This is exactly what I need for my PS3. Too bad its not coming out till the fall :(
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30Anyone thing the big wigs aren't gonna be happy about the "virtual stereo that you can share" aspect?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+34"PS3 sucks ass anyways, this won't help one bit"
I sure love unqualified responses like this. It lets me easily clean up digg by banning morons. - chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28To answer both your requests: give it time. Don't expect 50 perfect games and a price drop in the first 4 months, that is absurd.
- Nobiting, on 10/12/2007, -7/+32As a proud PS3 owner I just need to say this. Okay, it was bad. It was very bad. Sony's launch of their newest PlayStation was nothing short of a complete nightmare. This console was launched 'behind schedule' when it was really launched before it was even done. Now we're starting to see the Sony we all used to know. Backwards compatibility is fixed, some good titles are starting to come along, a price-drop is amongst thoughts at Sony's HQ, we're about to be READY TO RUMBLE, and now PlayStation Home. So what I'm trying to say here is this: The PlayStation 3 is not a failure. It had a horrendous launch but come on is a next-gen console's fate determined by its first 4 months? I think not.
Now, LET THE GAMES BEGIN ;-) - RooDoG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24This is a very good surprise, I totally did not to expect to see this. It seems as if this was supposed to be part of the PS3 for Launch, but Sony wasn't able to have it ready in time. If this pulls threw well, i will be getting a PS3 this Fall for sure. I own a 360, I own a Wii... I used to have a love for Sony which was nearly crushed over the past year or so... But this is very refreshing to see, it looks to me that Sony isn't going to let a poor launch hurt them.
- RooDoG, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26I'm going to have to agree 100%
Sure the community is free, but of course you are also paying $600 for the console itself. But such a vast and expansive community should make the $600 purchase much less painful. Oh, and you also have some top notch games to add to that :) - damienoneill, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Anyone notice the home in that looks remarkibly like one of the ones Bender and Fry stay in in Furturama
- KyleRayner, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Wow! That does it, first price drop, Im buying a PS3.
Never wouldve imagined Id be saying that, but this is cool beyond belief. Its so simple, yet so deep, makes me wonder why nobody has done this before now! - JimmyB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Well there's a beta beginning in April. Not sure if its fully public or not though.
- Nocturnalis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22NICE!
Sony not going down without a fight. - xioner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20I think one thing we all tend to forget is that while the XBox360 is cool now, last year everyone was trashing it for being too loud, eating discs, coming in two versions, and being impossible to get.
Both systems are very powerful and just need some time to gain traction, as can be expected of something that costs as much as a basic PC.
And as for the Wii... different market.
That all said, I still don't own a console :-P - Finster, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24this is why i will purchase a ps3
- StateofMind09, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Well, Sony just owned GDC...
- c0dy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Wow. I must say I'm impressed. Feels weird to say, but well done to Sony.
This has huge potential to grow into something big, and Microsoft should really react fast. It's certainly a good time to be a gamer :) - weeeeeeee, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22Exactly how I feel. This might actually save the PS3. I bet we will start to finally see some much needed Sony love on digg so things will start to balance out more.
- xymor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17This *is* great.
One of the aspects that make Wow such a success is the social component, people meet online and chat(and play of course). This functionality certainly seeks to take advantage of that social need of online players, the big problem is the game component.
Ps3 desperately need, and fast, a big quantity of quality titles. The 360 had a year and almost(or maybe more than) a hundred games and there's at least a dozen great games. In order so succeed, the Ps3 need at least to catch up in the number of great games available before 360 lead is unreachable.
And if the provide 3D poker tables, chess and go boards count me in. - chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16@sultantravi
No, people are digging you down because you are a: trolling; b: stating subjective opinions as "facts"; c: using first-impression reviews of a console with a 6+ year lifespan as evidence that it is doomed; d: stating the obvious (yes, it is more expensive); e: using Avril Lavigne lingo (boi?)
- swifty12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14This will be the first time anyone will embed a "game" of this proportions into an actual console. Hopefully they will include some type of PSP interactivity as well. I'm looking forward to see how this turns out.
- Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I really like the looks of PS Home. Looks like Sony's at least trying to differentiate the PS3 from the 360.
- Eallan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Looks like it's high time for me to buy one. I'll have HDDVD and Blu ray covered, and this looks neat. Now if they'd hurry up with that tax return...
- daveisfera, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I'm a 360 fanboy that has to admit that this definitely is a neat idea with a lot of potential, but we'll just have to see how it really pans out.
- pegisys, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20from my experience it's white kids that call every one the n-word, and all types of other racial slurs, every couple of seconds.
Since I'm black I thought every one I ended up playing with was racist, but still I don't play on live with people that I don't already know. - DarkJC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@ MouseCircus
LittleBigPlanet is a game. For the Playstation Store. Why would this not be released to the public? Sony isn't going to just let it sit around after getting it developed.
Also, I understand where you're coming from on the Home issue, but honestly I doubt they're going to have 'x' million houses attached to Home and you've gotta go all the way down a massive hall to your friends house. More, you're invited to someones house, you hit X (or whatever) and you're there. Or if they're on your friends list, you already get access to your house. Stuff like that. I don't see why it would work any different than an invitation to a game. - Bobalobabingbon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10HAHAHAH Runescape is horrible
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+27Come to think of it, Xbox Live just got pwned too. This makes Xbox Live look cold and empty.
- Bobalobabingbon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I didn't know that you played home to be able to compare it so well.
- Zoids, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Where does the PSP stand with all this? I'd like to see come cross-platform integration...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"Oh, and I forgot, but you can also use a USB keyboard... but that's not ideal either."
What the ***** do you consider ideal then? You can chat via a bluetooth headset, you can type on a keyboard, you can use canned phrases.
My god. Do you expect the PS3 to have some kind of psychic interlink that jacks directly into your brain stem so you can lay on the couch and drool while wandering around the virtual world?
MORON. - StateofMind09, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10You could say the same thing every time a new game or application comes out. Oh wait, you guys already do.
