Hey, show some respect for the real Muppets. - zediker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+50Honestly I have no intention of getting a PS3, nor do I care about Sony at all, but has this even been confirmed by Sony?
All we have is a quote oh what one man said:
"The honest answer is it's more of a target. Clearly we've had production issues.''
This doesnt say that it will not be released on the 17th at all. Don't start bashing them till its confirmed they F'ed up. - truspector, on 10/12/2007, -7/+50Why am I not suprised?
- philhansen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24From the Kotaku page for the story:
"My advice on getting a PS3 at launch? Club those who have successfully pre-ordered the PS3 over the head, then devour their heart, thus absorbing their strength, energy and EB Games deposit."
Hilarious - Peat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21The article that this article links to actually says they're going to miss their units sold target, not the ship date target.
Marked as Inaccurate. - DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -7/+25It appears as if they're talking speculatively about how MANY consoles are going to ship.
I would venture a guess and say this doesn't mean they WON'T ship on the 17th, rather the numbers may be reduced. (How many is anyone's guess)
At any rate I'm not worried. As someone who has both the PS3 and Wii on pre-order and a 360 at home, I can say I'll have enough software to keep me busy that I wouldn't even miss Sony's weak launch line up. CoD3, Gears of War, Rainbow 6: Vegas, THP8, PSU, and all the Wii has to offer is enough to keep me going until late next year, when the meat (See: MGS4) of Sony's software arrives. - Thrasher9, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21Man, it's hard to say anything good anymore about the ps3.
ummm...
Any press is GOOD press! - TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21The only thing Sony and the RIAA have in common is that they are both Muppets. Who screw the consumers in the ass with bull ***** excuses.
- stewacide, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17This is about missing their ship targets for the period, not the launch date!!!!
Buried as inaccurate. - toasty168, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18it's just so fun to hate sony
- weprin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11The article title is misleading, and the article itself is inaccurate.
Here is the quote:
"Sony Corp., which slashed its profit forecast yesterday, said it may not reach this year's shipment target for the PlayStation 3 game console because of a parts shortage in the Blu-ray high-definition disc drive."
Source: http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/sony/sony-may-not-hit-playstation-3-shipment-target-208947.php
They are talking about the launch numbers, not the date!!!
Edit: @Peat you beat me to it. - Benad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Marked inaccurate. Original quote ( http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aFlCbcejTr_M&refer=home ), in context:
Sony plans to ship two million PlayStation 3 players this year to the U.S. and Japan, and six million worldwide by March. The Tokyo-based company said yesterday annual profit would fall 35 percent to its lowest in five years on price cuts of the console in Japan and a recall of 9.6 million computer batteries.
``The honest answer is it's more of a target'' for PlayStation 3 shipments, Jack Tretton, co-chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said yesterday in an interview. ``Clearly we've had production issues.'' - Kolenka, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Problem is that this is actually an article about 4 articles removed from the source. Each article clipping down and taking things out of context in various ways.
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601101&sid=aUar.WY0i2aU&refer=japan
^ Original article
The article discusses the EOY ship quantity targets. And anyone who thinks Sony hasn't /been/ having production issues, is living in a cave, with their eyes shut, and their fingers in their ears. Yes, it could lead to numbers fluctuating downward, but I don't see anything in that article saying that Sony would miss the launch day...buried as inaccurate. - meebio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What I love about all of the PS3 speculation is it's always negative. Then in the next breath you see comments from said rumor mill, "hit people over the head to take their pre-orders". I love all the negative comments towards teh 3 on digg. I was a fanboy once... when i was like 12. LOL.
Down with digg fanboys. lol - cal01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8How the hell did this get to the front page? The blog article is inaccurate, it's from kotaku which automatically earns a -50% chance of me digging it up, and... did I mention it was inaccurate?
OMFG. What's wrong with digg these days.
edit: BTW, Stephen Colbert talks a lot about the use of a question mark for sensationalism. :( - Xarou, on 10/12/2007, -12/+19Yeah, Square, leave Sony and come to your original company of Nintendo!
- Smwbigboss, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15"Digg is getting lamer and lamer each day for gaming news."
Then go the ***** away! - EochaidRiata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Is it really too difficult to link to the original story?
Instead we get a link to the Gizmodo blog that just links to a story at the Kotaku blog which links to the original story at Bloomberg.
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aFlCbcejTr_M&refer=home - TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14This wouldn't be the first time this console has been delayed! :P
- RandomSkratch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Nelson Muntz: Haa haa
- isthisnametaken, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Am I the only one that doesnt get the RIIIIIIIIIIDGGGGEE RACCCEEEEERRR and such comments?
please explain without burying me too hard - Benad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Welcome to Digg!
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@tchawla... A company saying they will ship a product for that date and a company actually delivering on date is two completely different things. They said this about the previous release dates.
- Guard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Buried as inaccurate. Comments point out the "target" they were talking about was the console amount, not the ship date.
And reading the original article on Kotaku makes that apparent.
And i was hoping for a good reason to kick the PS3 fanboys down too. - Michalson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Watch this

It's a 3 minute "summary" of Sony's E3 presentation. It should bring you up to speed on the source of many of the resulting catch phrases like "riiiiidge raaaacer", "giant enemy crab" and "real time weapon changing"
(video is not mine) - ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Titles ending in question marks are sensationalist and inaccurate?
- eur0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Is it me or do most people on Digg leave a negative connotation on the PS3's release and its capabilities?
- horanghee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@DBiz,
If you wouldn't even miss it, why not save that $$$ for something else? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I counter your "fan boi alert" with an anti-fan boi alert! I think he's right though, similarly to how the PS2 shipped with less than the expected amount of units, even if the PS3 isn't ready I think they'll still ship what they have.
And the quote doesn't say anything about the release date being delayed. The article doesn't even say how old the quote is. I'll need more proof than this to believe a change in the ship date is even close to probable. - gweedo767, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This couldn't be taken anymore out of context. They are concerned about hitting their near 2 million units mark by years end. The console is launching Nov 17th.
Here comes a bury as inaccurate. - Innotech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4As much as I hate this system and sony in general (even for nongaming reasons) this is innacurate. The article says they might miss the 2 million unit shipment, not the release date. The date is when the console will set off, for better or worse. So far it seems for the worse.
But despite my loyalties to other systems I had to report this innacurate. - uberphildo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I believe this comes from their E3 press conference. Kaz Hirai was demoing how you could download and play PS1 titles on a PSP. He showed off Ridge Racer and pretty much no one cared.
He actually said, in an effort to pump up the crowd: "It's Ride Racer! Riiiiiidge Raaaaaacer!!" - hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is inaccurate, the original article from Bloomberg was misquoted.
- WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"BIZ: Sony will only have 500K units for day one. How is the manufacturing process going as you prepare for launch? And how many units do you expect to have by the end of this year?
PD: We're on track; everything's gone smoothly from a manufacturing perspective. We're focused on making sure that we've got strong supply on day one, but also making sure that there is steady stock of hardware for the retail channel, so that there aren't long periods of droughts between shipments. And the numbers that were talked about for a while still stand; the 2 million units by the end of the calendar are still forecast and everything looks to be on track with that number."

but meh you guys won't listen anyway. - Jayeugene, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Very misleading title, no evidence to support that they wont release it on the 17th of Nov. Inaccurate.
- ZeroMP, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Remember how the Wii was supposed to launch before the PS3?
...and then when they announced Nov 19th for the Wii everyone was surprised that it was actually 2 days AFTER the PS3 launch?
Nintendo knew just as well as Sony did that they aren't making a Nov 17th launch any more than they are having 700,000 consoles ready or sending any to Europe.
But at least they have Blu Ray - Bllllluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu Raaaaaaaaaaaaayyy... and who could forget 'Giant Enemy Crab'? I'm sure nobody minds waiting a few extra months at this point right? ...right? meh. - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The possibility is precisely why people shouldn't be allowed to sell their preorders on eBay. It's also why people shouldn't be stupid enough to pay for someone else's preorder.
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I thought I felt a disturbance in the Force...
I sure hope the Wii takes off. I'd hate to see Sony hand the gaming market to Microsoft on a silver platter through their endless parade of screw-ups. - sethworld, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8no biggie... this system will go down in history as one of the biggest failures.
- triplehelix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5i'm guessing your not surprised because its not true?
- aegis9975, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8>>Wait a minute, isn't Kotaku the game world equivalent of a Star or US tabloid?
Kotaku can be pretty bad at times, but not as bad as the AOL Weblogs duo Joystiq/Engadget. . . - Brog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@xarou
I'd just be happy if Square-Enix would launch FF XIII cross platform. Of course, if PS3 fails badly, most of its currently exclusive titles will eventually find a way onto competing systems. Sonic is proof of that. - cal01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hmm. This article went up by 150 diggs since the last time I posted (an hour ago). Is anyone actually reading the comments or the article before digging?
That's it, I'm switching most of my 'net reading to reddit (but I still - joelmole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Marked as inaccurate. The quote from Kutaragi from the original article specifically references missing shipping targets in terms of quantity, not date.
For the record, I'm an unabashed Sony hater, but a lack of accuracy is just that, no matter the bias. - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Why is digg so overrun with Wii-tarded liberals?
- saudama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11-The PS3 is the most expensive console to buy out there, and their overconfidence is devastating.
2-The PS3 is losing some exclusive titles which are going to appear on the 360 and possibly the Wii.
And now...
3-The PS3 may not be able to make the deadline they had set for themselves.
Forgive me, Sony fanboys, when I say that Sony has messed up even worse than I had expected. I'm afraid this is where they should step down and wait another 2-3 months before announcing a release date, so they can iron out their problems and bring a system that is halfway worth its price. By then, however, every gamer would have gotten a Wii and/or a 360, and it would be a bit too late to compete. - djwins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Marked inaccurate, they are talking about the number of units, not thte ship date...
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7TROLL NEWS ALERT
TROLL NEWS ALERT
MARKED INNACURATE - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4so you'd rather wait for a delayed piece of ***** that is built on a media platform that hasn't proven itself in the slightest bit? May I remind you of the UMD, the MiniDisk and the Beta tape.
- EbowUK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, the sense of humour police have been out in force.
I'm off to pre-order my Wii.
::rolleyes:: -
