- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -29/+84burn SONY burn
(you are evil sony, you put fake reviewers up on movie posters, you have paid payola to radio stations to play your pos boy bands and were found guilty, you loaded drm on pcs without telling people and the list could go on) - digitalgopher, on 10/12/2007, -25/+57So what was going to be their "Claim to Fame" (blu-ray) is actually their Achilles Heel. LOL!
I'll just enjoy my XBOX 360... - Maeser, on 10/12/2007, -6/+34$50 says the premiere title is Duke Nukem Forever
- vd0man, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27Remember: The November launch date is for Japan. Sony's never launched a console in the US less than two months after it's Japanese release. This means most likely no PS3 in America until 2007. Xbox360 would have a TWO Christmas lead on Sony in the US...
- Brutis, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22and im glad atleast I'm not the only one who hasn't forgotten
In all seriousness the Revolution comes out around this same time. And with the history of Sony, they have never released a console in the same time frame as a competitor. They'll just come up with some "delay" again, watch. I predict the PS3 will be released in Japan in Q1 of 2007, and maybe US late Q1 or early Q2 2007. There is no way in hell they will release in Japan in November with the Revolution around that time, Japan loves nintendo, even more so now because of the DS. - samdu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19One thing I would add to ponder is this... If, in fact, the story is accurate; If this comes from Sony directly; If the reasoning behind the delay is DRM on Blu-Ray - how is it that standalone Blu-Ray players will apparently be on shelves later this month/early next? Check Circuit City's web site under DVD players and you'll see a link to a big full page spread about Blu-Ray and specifically a Samsung stand-alone Blu-Ray player that CC claims they'll have available soon. They even have a price for it. So, how could it possibly be that BR DRM specs are holding up the PS3 when those same DRM specs have to be applied to all BR players and there are BR players set to launch within a month? It means one of a few things. Either the story is inaccurate - there was no confirmation of a delay. Or, the delay was confirmed, but the reasoning was misinterpreted. Or the delay was confirmed and Sony is being less than honest about the reasoning (MS fanboy floodgate alert). Whatever the case, the "event" tomorrow should be interesting.
- stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I would honestly put a lot of faith in Nintendo to come out the winner in this whole "next gen" battle. Sony always uses lies and vaporware to hold off the competition (PS, PS2), but it looks like that just can't work this time. Xbox 360 is already out, and Nintendo is coming out with something so different that touting better technical numbers won't actually do any good for Sony. They are trying to put too many "features", at the expense of time-to-market and cost to the customer.
Call me a Nintendo fanboy, but I'm betting on the Revolution. Nintendo is keeping it simple, and what I want to do is play fun games, so that works for me. - norick, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18I rather wait for the official announcement tomorrow. But it doesn't surprise me at all, Sony had lied from the beginning, they knew they won't be able to launch the PS3 in spring 2006, but they say so to avoid that everyone buy the xbox360.
Anyway, I am french, so I won't see the PS3 until spring or summer 2007, so I don't care, I am waiting for the Revolution. - joel2600, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20you know what this needs?

The writing has been on the wall for a while now. It's fun to look at those old threads and see how lots of retarded flaming apologist fanboys are conspicuously absent from this one. :-) - Zipp425, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15you know, its sad, but its so true...
Sony's actions this past year have made me lose respect for them. - xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14yea, who would've thought the blu-ray drive would've been such an obstacle to their launch date?
at least the developers will have more time to work on the games. until then, i'll play my 360 and the upcoming revolution - NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11"The unsourced story"
Interesting... - Mullinator, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15I was thinking of getting a PS3. Sony lost me though, I'm just going to upgrade my PC for my immediate gaming fix and get a Revolution once it's released.
- volcomjerk, on 10/12/2007, -17/+24It's not just the Blu-Ray drive, it's their 8 core processor. It's difficult to program for it and to find someone who can program at that level is rare. Thus, making development slower.
See here: http://www.digg.com/gaming/IBM_s_Octopiler,_or,_why_the_PS3_is_running_late - WickedDrag0oN, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Explain to me how this is official... Im all for watching Sony burn in hell yadda yadda but this is yet again just he said she said babble... I havent seen any "official" press releases. Which as it states in the stupid article
"When asked for a comment, a Sony Computer Entertainment America spokesperson only went on record saying that SCEI has not issued any official statement itself yet."
It may have been said... by a supposed exec FINALLY, I for sure think theres no way for them to get it out by the end of this month or even next, however it is in no way official. More miss labled drivel posted on theses game sites trying to make up content to post. - levi, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13Sony didn't have to lie to keep people for buying the 360. Microsoft did a good enough job of that on their own. First the Japanese were never going to buy an American console and there weren't any in America if you wanted to buy one.
- RyGiL, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Not that I support either of the 3 next-gen consoles, but this news pisses me off. I hate having only 1 choice for a console (XBox 360). Yet another year of watching my XBox and PS2 collect dust except for every 5th month when a worthwhile game comes out. As expensive as PC Gaming is, it has been much more enjoyable than console gaming over the past 2 years.
- ineedunderscore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yup. "SCEI has not issued any official statement itself yet. " and the japanese article was an editorial. this is all still speculation. super old news. I would, however, like to hear from sony soon. just for a change.
- converge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The PlayStation 3 will install a rootkit on to your TV.
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No. No one did. We were just waiting for Sony to admit it.
Karma is a bitch, isn't it? - synae, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Did anyone really think it was going to be shipped in the next 3 months? I've only been following the PS3 peripherally (no, not the controllers or hard drives) and I had no expectations of that. Aren't there huge production problems with the processor(s), and isn't it the case that the graphics card/processor does not exist yet?
I'll believe a release date when I know someone (a person or even just a store) who has one. until then I expect nothing. - LeFrenzy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6here's today's article about the topic on CNET News.com

- vanlandw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3all the people saying 2007 for ps3 I agree with 120%.
- irate, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7If this is Official, why am I seeing so many question marks and uncertainty!?
- innerspirit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Revolution FTW.
- Bistromaths, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm just thinking that if Nintendo is released in the summer, as has been constantly said, then the length of time before the ps3 is released could be enough time for scalability to be such that there could be a sharp price cut, maybe somewhere in the region of £50 or so, assuming that it sells for ~£200.
This would be a shrewd move by Nintendo and would certainly put the wind up Sony. Anyone's thoughts on this? I mean, Nintendo is I think doing something similar re: launch date of Zelda though can't remember what it will be clashing with. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4SONY is talking tomorrow.
The DOW Jones got wind of this and stocks have traded accordingly. When the DOW JONES reprots this, I take it as real.
Just a matter of time for tommorrow SONY press conference. Watch the complete ignore all talk of PS3. - jus10case, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ever see that movie "Disclosure" with Demi Moore, that was a disk drive problem too :)
- Julz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My opinion is that the revolution will bring Nintendo back into the console market, i think every gamer will have two consoles, a 360 or PS3 and the revolution, because its soo cheap and the Nintendo games are soo classic! i think Microsoft will grab more market share because of the late release of the PS3, even tho i love my xbox, PS3 will have some wicked games!
- Prophet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If I remember right (and I might not), the Rev release is late 2006, and they are releasing it everywhere within a month of it's first release. So if the PS3 release in November, in Japan, then it won't get to the US for 2-3 months, or the rest of the world for 3-4 months. Given that the Rev will be everywhere by 2007, giving it a huge head start, and a nice price tag, I think it has a good chance.
If they can get developers to make good use of the new control system, and a little more 3rd party support (though Zelda and Mario will probably still carry the brand), then they're golden. - Swampthing, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7"Time for me to go buy my X360..."
GOOD LUCK... 360s are still pretty scarce on the shelves five months after "launch" date. - thenorwegian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5sony has disgusted me lately, as well as many other people i'm sure. You have to take into account marketing schemes too, although I'm not sure how delaying the launch would benefit them in any way. They're really going downhill lately.
- RiotActing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Put the crack pipe down buddy and stop sucking Sony's you know what...
- cusoman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7The thing is... those of us who grew up with those systems make up the majority of the gaming market now. Halo worshipping kiddies aside, the Revolution will attract the true masses.

PS3 Delayed to November?
Blu-ray copy protection problems may delay the system's release by six months.
by Chris Roper
March 14, 2006 - Though Sony has been steadfast in sticking with its "Spring 2006" launch timeframe for the PlayStation 3, the morning edition of Japanese business paper Nihon Keizai Shimbun is reporting that the system will see its release pushed back until early November of this year.
Citing problems with finalizing the copy protection scheme for Blu-ray, which the PlayStation 3 will employ as its removable media, Nihon Keizai Shimbun believes that the system will hit store shelves some six months later than expected. According to the paper, the Blu-ray copy protection problem is the only thing holding back the release of the console as its other core parts, including the cutting edge Cell processor, are all on schedule.
IGN contacted Sony US representatives who unsurprisingly told us, "Sony Computer Entertainment does not comment on speculation stories."
Stay tuned for more information, which may be sooner than later as the PlayStation Business Briefing 2006 is set to begin in Japan at roughly midnight PST tonight.

ok that's the last one. Poor 1up.com, they'll be down for a few hours. - ccann702, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well, that seals it. I think the Target by my house has 360's in stock. Excuse me, be back soon...
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I think what separates Nintendo is the style of games they make. So maybe they're not as "hardcore" as PS and Xbox games, but there are many gamers who play precisely those types of accessible games. There is also the casual market to exploit.
The PS and Xbox are turning out to be practically identical in the types of games that are made for both. In many cases, the same game is ported to both and the PC. One hardware platform is going to win if the content is identical, and that will be the Xbox360, along with its PC counterpart.
Sony dropped the ball with this Blu-Ray and DRM nonsense and has been unable to get the hardware done. MS is selling Xbox360s at a loss, but it has the PC and console market in mind, as well as related services like Live. MS's strategy is more far-reaching than what Sony is doing, and they've been able to pull it off.
I don't really feel any pity for Sony. They've already shown numerous times that they can be even more heavy-handed and corrupt than MS.
So there you go. I think Nintendo and MS will survive, Sony is going to need a "killer app" to compete. Hardware alone isn't going to do it. Oh, and Blu-Ray sucks! - digitarius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Working in the games dept of a major retailer, I'm unfortunate enough to witness plenty of deluded fanboyism when it comes to the PS3. People come into my department talking about how the 360 is for sheep, how the PS3 is not only going to have better graphics, but will also do your laundry and help the kids with their homework. I usually shake my head and try in vain to point out a probable Q1 '07 US release and a probable $700 price tag. And, of course, as fanboys do, they never hear a word I say.
Sony's turned their backs on the consumer. And they'll lie to you at every turn. The PS3, if it ever actually launches, will just drive home that point. - ditoa, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I agree. I have a GC, PS2 and XBOX but the only next gen system I am interested in is the Revolution. Why? Because I don't really care much for better graphics anymore. I want fun games to play in a group (online as well, which is the only negative thing I have to say about the GC). Stick XBox Live on a GC and you have the perfect console for me. If this is what Nintendo will do with the Revoluion I will only be buying one of the next gen systems. While the X360 is nice, its just prettier graphics on the same games. The Revolutions controller interests me as I had loads of fun with all the games with different controllers on the current gen systems such as the dance games and donkey konga, etc.
- msipes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2More like Spring 2007! Hello!
- MartinBob, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5"JUST LIKE NOW WITH THE X-BOX AND GAMECUBE, get those two and there is almost NO game I would want to play that I cant get with those two and a PC."
That's great for YOU. But there are countless titles that gamers love on the PS2.
"Anyone getting this anyway?"
Wow, have you not noticed how PS2 outsold Xbox and GCN combined? - maczealot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I hear ya, but I like this one a bit better for this situation:
http://www.digitpress.com/dpsoundz/pacdies.wav - nitroskanker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Will I get to play all my Atrac3 files on the PS3???? Will it have a mini-disc slot? Maybe a Betamax player too? Aw Sony, you just look pretty on the outside.
- MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe is Sony wasn't so proprietary. Why can't they accept the standards? Or are they too good for that?
- digitarius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The real irony here is that Blu-Ray is so unneccesary. Though it features higher capacities, the transfer speeds for the PS3's drives will be noticeably slower than the DVD drives on the 360. Given the low market penetration for HD sets, nobody is really that excited about the HD movie aspect, anyway. Who really wants to pay two, three times the price for a marginally better product?
Not to mention Microsoft will release an HD-DVD OR Blu-Ray drive for the 360. Games are still easily fitting on a dual layer DVD, and nobody really cares that much about switching discs if it came to that. But the expense of blu-ray (in both $$ and time) may be exactly what costs Sony this round. - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I don't buy the BluRay delay claim... I think Sony is holding the system back on puprose due to expensive hardware and a weak software lineup. Sony can't afford a weak PS3 launch.. they need their own Halo effect. I guess the good news for Sony fanboys today is Microsoft made the same mistake --- there's no exclusive 360 games worth buying the console for.
- Crockpot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually Bill Gates took that back what he said about Halo 3 launching at the same time of the PS3. Bungie says "When its done" release date. Still It would be possible to get it out before PS3. If that happens it would really hurt sony for those who are waiting for halo.
- Bistromaths, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1playing devil's advocate here maladon, (even though Ninty are great) to say that Sony are proprietary in a console discussion is a bit silly. Compare ps2 discs with gamecube discs and report back at oh-seven hundred hours!
