- razmig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+67are we talking acute or obtuse?
- Partyworm, on 10/12/2007, -8/+48If you read the whole article he says clearly that the first bidder was desperately trying to coax others into outbidding him to 'save him from his impulse purchase' (paraphrased). When he bid he probably didn't expect to be the only bidder.
- Partyworm, on 10/12/2007, -12/+47Sony PR strikes again.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35Angles or.... what? Bread? Shovels? How are we supposed to guess the end of your question?
- 60effects, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35Is anyone else seeing stripes after reading that article? Not digging the yellow text & black background.
(oops - didn't mean to reply) - melkore, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33Right. It has to be right angles
- spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29It happened at the 2007 Marillion Weekend (2-5 February 2007). It wont have happened 6 months ago for another 4 months.
- SharinganBob, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28Damn, that site literally BURNED my eyes.
- spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28Sorry, but 'columnist for respected magazine' trumps 'some random dude in digg comments section' in the credibility stakes.
Provide some evidence or shut the ***** up - rfilsinger, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28I find it just as funny the magazine wouldn't run his article. What a bunch of pussies.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22I believe in shovels. Angles and Bread are flat out wrong. I mean, angles have degrees. Who wants to deal with numbers? And bread? Please, your recipe keeps trying to tell me what to do. I'm not down with that. I say NO flour!
Shovels dig, and move things. And they're good for hitting people with. That's why I'm a Shovels man. - Renton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17@formulaone
Do your parents know you're saying those kinds of things online? - sid0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Pre PS3 ENGLISH launch, ibeetle. He's a UK guy.
- spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Exactly, very well respected. Best head in the area thank you very much.
- aboyd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16What spudnic said. How can the story have been going around 6 months ago, if the event only happened 2 months ago? Sounds like the blog author is more credible than you are, ibeetle.
- imbatman05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Anyone else get nasty streaking yellow lines in their eyes after that?
- Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I'd like to know what Mr. Harrison was expecting to happen. By the sounds of things he was trying to auction a PS3 at an independent music festival. Maybe some of the people there are gamers, but they're probably there to listen to music not buy consoles.
- spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Nor is this some 'anonymous blogger', his name is Paul Rose and he writes a column for one of the UK's most respected games magazines
- beepsy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10@ibeetle
While it might have launched here 4 months ago there was a European/Australian launch just a couple of weeks ago. - sid0, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16@jacksons: RTFA. The guy writes for Edge, so, as someone said above, he has a lot more credibility than you do.
The PS3 isn't bad per se, but it's WAY ahead of its time. Sony should have waited three more years before releasing something this technologically advanced. It would have cost a lot less then too.
Remember: The most advanced technology usually does not succeed. We all know how the PS2 was the weakest of the three consoles released in its generation. - mayan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Just stop. You've made your choice, so has everyone else. Just be happy to be a gamer and don't drag everyone else down with you.
- dslemons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9My eyes are in so much pain now.... it's not 1983 any longer, you have more than 7 colors.... please... do it for my eyes.
- sid0, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Sony fanboys _still_ exist?
- TheXeno, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@formulaone
Buddy, pal, fellow PS3 gamer, try not to insult other gamers who have legitimately chosen their console of choice just as you have. You're giving those that love their PS3 a bad name and just adding fuel to a really really unneeded fire. - VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Could this blog entry have been any more long-winded?
- P5ycHo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13It's NOT 600 Euro in the UK. First of all, they are not a euro currency country, and they sell the PS3 there for much more.
- Lonecow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Phil is a jerk.
Fanboyness aside, he was on 1Up Show and one of the interviewers called "Little Big Planet," "Little Big World," and Phil acted like the guy had insulted his mother. Then when he said "Little Big Planet" himself he had to make sure he emphasised the word "PLANET" to really rub it in. And he wasn't giving the guy a hard time, he was just being a douche.
He needs to come back down to reality. - PDelahanty, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14VIDEO or it didn't happen!
- DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6this is why copy writers aren't editors or layout gurus.
- nickj6282, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Well, I only see a thumbs up and a thumbs down next to your name. If I COULD mark you inaccurate I would. Should I click this "no" symbol next to your name instead? Is that the right one?
- kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -9/+14Funny story, but I can't help but wonder if it's true. How can something so hilarious (and bad for SONY) stay off of Digg for so long--especially if witnessed by 2500 people.
I want this to be true, but it sounds just a bit fishy... - spudnic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7That's no figure of speech either, I'm literally seeing lines too
- CyrusG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow. So obnoxious...I'm still seeing lines. I thought my monitor was broken.
- sid0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@Yellow: Compared to the PS2, hell yes.
http://nintendo.about.com/od/editorials/a/systemcompare_2.htm - ZeroMP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@spudnic: "Exactly, very well respected. Best head in the area thank you very much."
I laughed until my eyes watered. - ZeroMP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Mostly during. After I just have a headache and fall asleep.
- aMammoth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Same, and yellow lines, I think I'm going to sue.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6It happens, Im not a Sony fan myself but what Edge does especially to protect their advertisers happens all the time.
Example: Video game news sites dont show certain news especially when it concerns their most biggest advertiser or sponsor. I worked for a company that has EA games as a big sponsor and they always keep the news clean about them. - pak314, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This quote from the sole bidder on the PS3 cracked me up:
“Somebody bid! It’s only a hundred quid per autograph! Please?! Why? Why? Why?”
I wish I could hear a recording of it. - PhoenixAvatar2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just stop talking before you embarrass yourself more, formulaone.
- raindog469, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We're not just talking about a concert, we're talking about a Marillion.... fan-club... WEEKEND. This is basically like a sci-fi convention, except instead of sci-fi it's prog-rock and instead of just signing autographs they do concerts.
Anyway, you already have to be kind of a nerd to be into Marillion, and to cross the threshold into "hang out with them for a weekend" territory you're perilously close to achieving anorak status. Most of them are probably into videogames as well. - kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"VIDEO or it didn't happen"
I hate SONY, but I still have to agree with you. 2500 people were there at a concert--but no one had a camera, camcorder, or even a damn cell phone? Not even this so-called journalist? I don't buy it. - Loonacy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4The guy writes for Edge, sure, but this is a blog post. When it's published in a magazine, then maybe i'll take it seriously. Maybe then they'd give it to an editor to do fact checking.
For one thing, they don't use euros in the UK. I know it happened in Holland, but still, this makes no sense:
"for the 600 euro starting price (“The price it’ll be in UK shops”, he kindly reminded everyone)"
And then they switch inexplicably to quid:
“Somebody bid! It’s only a hundred quid per autograph! Please?! Why? Why? Why?”
Also, a stupid t-shirt went for "in the region of 650 euros." Even if it was a pile of dog dung, it was for charity. I can't believe they'd give more money for a t-shirt than for a PS3. It's not THAT unpopular. - JimmyJJWalker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think there are more burried comments than not.
Digg bias FTL, this site is becoming a damn joke.... Fark FTW! - aldomatic, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Thats so sad
- bobbagoose, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@ ibeetle
FYI, he's been a video game journalist for the best part of 20 years. You're just a *****. - IHaveCrayons, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I think Phil is also a nice guy, didn't you see him at the Wii presentation?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Phil is actually a nice guy. Don't you think the person interviewing him should have known the name of the game? I mean, it was only mentioned at least 100 times that day and was the story of GDC 2007.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3What IF I don't want all those extras? Or even have an HD TV set? Or even want to bother with a new format??
It's choice. And I will give you this much, if you choose to "max" everything out, you will end up paying more than it's worth. But, it's choice none the less. - ecommando, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5$600 for PS3 is more value than $470 for XBOX 360 Elite.
I have all 3 next gen consoles.
My XBOX360 premium is the most expensive one of them. After adding everything, I ended up paying more for that than my PS3.
XBOX360 needs to come down in price. $180 for a 120 Gig drive? Come on! -
