- l3reak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This was the first interview with a Sony exec that I've seen that he didn't make a complete fool out of himself, and act like his consumers are also complete fools. He actually handled himself pretty well and answered questions pretty honestly - he acted like he had a good handle on reality, unlike some of the other Sony stuff I've been reading lately. Good to see Sony hasn't gone COMPLETELY insane.
P.S. Don't think I'm some sony fanboy - I got a wii at launch and don't plan on getting a PS3 for a long time, if ever. Just sayin'... Sony finally gave a decent interview. - Daveydje, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd prefer the title to have been "Rumours of a PS3 Price Cut Greatly Exaggerated" ;)
1UP: Recently, Takao Yuhara indicated that price drops are a part of Sony's plan to expand the market when the timing is right. Is it damaging, this early in the console's lifecycle and just ahead of the system's launch in Europe to already be talking about price drops?
PH: Well, do you know what he said was, cost reduction, not price drop, and there's a big difference between cost reduction and price drop. So, that I believe is where the confusion came from. Obviously, we are investing our money in making PlayStation 3s cheaper to manufacture -- that's part of our business plan.
1UP: You're not going to pass the savings along?
PH: When we can, when there are savings to pass along to the consumer, we would obviously choose to do that. That's the business model.
1UP: Wait? You guys are doing this to make money? Really?
PH: That's videogame hardware 101. - MrFlesh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm sure this will get buried by the Wii60 fanboys, but I'll digg anyway.
