A friend of mine who played cs 1.6 introduced me to the game, at first, I played a few minutes, then left, the next time I was over there I played more, then I bought the game. Within a month I had CS:CZ server, and now I have a clan with 40 members, multiple servers that people pay for by sending me donations. My g/f and 3 of my best friends play at least 1-2 days a week.
Now lets change a few words, for crack: (not true)
A friend of mine who smoked crack introduced me to crack, at first, tried a little, then left, the next time I was over I tried more, then I bought my own pipe. Within a month I had crack house, and now I have a crack crime ring with 40 members, multiple crack houses that people pay for by sending me stolen goods and money. My g/f and 3 of my best friends are now crack heads too. - naiou1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am a former drug addict (heroin) and I can definitely see the connection, all forms of substance abuse (any substance: drugs, food, money, video games, etc...) stems from a need to escape from reality and feel good. An addict just continues to pursue that goal despite the negative consequences associated with the continued behavior.
I can feel a little cracked out if I play any game for too long..... - sohlemac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is total BS. I will qualify that as soon as I finish this round of HL2DM... oh and maybe a couple of missions in GTA:LCS.
- boxlight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And in other news: Lemonade Is Refreshing and The Beatles Were Good!
- rabidmoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There has never been proven any connec...wait, matchmaking on Halo 2 found a game...later.
- Mond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well while this is interesting... identifying yet another activity we do as people as addictive... is really rather pedantic... what about television? I was dating this girl and she kept breaking off dates in-the middle to run and watch television. She would spend whole days watching television. I have a roommate who didn't leave his room for 8 hours straight because he was watching television... should someone do a study on how television is destructive and addictive like gambling/alcohol?
I really think people need to re-evaluate THINGS that are addictive... and tackle the REAL problem... WHY do people get addicted. It is a physiological process for sure...
oh well just my 2 cents - Turminator999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does this really surprise anybody?
- vctr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OMG colelt1 is right! Everything is like crack...
A friend of mine who played fantasy football introduced me to fantasy football, at first, tried a little, then left, the next time I was over I tried more, then I started my own account. Within a month I started my own fantasy football game, and now I have a fantasy football league with 40 members, multiple fantasy football tournament pools that people pay cash to join. My g/f and 3 of my best friends are now fantasy football players too. - bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is BS the only thing I care about are corners and looking up for snipers that's all.
- butlershouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and people whom take part in regular social activities... such as ... oh i dont know lets say football, squash, badmington, tennis, golf, drinking, driving, texting on a mobile phone or possibly ... just to be a little wild about this .. Breathing . There all drug users and have a wicked evil and vile habit that is disgusting and needs to be kicked .. and what's that? posting on Digg instead of posting on slashdot is not a suitable replacement !
Well I say screw you all ! my nickotine patches are all chewed out and this decaf coffee just aint cutting it no more.
Now gimme that Xbox controller and move over ... just one more go and im sure ill take a break - Tufriast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Former addict! Stay away from WoW. The ***** is crack. I lost a woman over it.

- paisley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone ever heard of EverCrack?
- 9enisP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Addiction experts say that almost any exciting activity can develop into a compulsion that disrupts daily activities, such as work, school, sleep, or time spent with the family."
GAMING IS A DAILY ACTIVITY! What if work, studying, or sleeping is disrupting my daily gaming? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0>how a smoker a lighter, and he or she will get the urge for a cigarette. The same physiological

show me a bowl of ice cream and i'll show you a guy who has the urge for a bowl of ice cream. just another way of confusing the difference between, addiction, syndrome, habit, preference thats different than the person judging you and disease. - Schmitty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh boy. I can put it next to my free iPod. Maybe then I can sell it to pay off some of the credit cards I signed up for to get it.
- ThomasAnderson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yah, so I admit it, I'm addicted to video games. But who the hell cares. I leave people alone, they leave me alone. I get so much crap from fags at school who think they have a life by loitering at the local movie theatre. I'm the one with amazing reflexes, I'm the one with expanded comprehension, I'm the one whos gonna own a multimillion dollar coorporation that will fire theyre asses and get their pregnant girlfriend out on the street in dead of winter while I laugh and spoon with my latest prostitute.
- Galaeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Possibly true depening on the person. I've played video games my whole life, I love em, Im not addicted
- lyricaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Three words: World of Warcraft
- Tufriast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I slept with a woman in order to play on her WoW account. I'm telling, like any other addiction, game playing IS ADDICTIVE. The woman wasn't all that hot...
- soccerob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is ridiculous, i don't know why anyone would... crap! sniper on the ledge!! banshee, help me out!!!
http://www.soccerob.com - chosenone-, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Show a smoker a lighter, and he or she will get the urge for a cigarette."
Erm, what smoker is this? Too much Pavlov literature for these people... - chosenone-, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And anyway, let's settle this addiction issue anyway:
They did a study involving monkeys and alcohol by introducing it to their community. Most would use it then and now, but 10% of the population became alcoholics.
I believe this is true in humans as well, there will always be a portion of people who ABUSE a substance (whether that be a narcotic like alcohol or virtual entertainment like games). So what? We need to deal with these people, help them out. Denying the entire conecpt because some are prone to abuse isn't realistic (when has prohibition worked on anything?) and not treating/acknowledging the people who need help is inhuman.
On a side note, stop sending addicts to prisons, it makes no sense! - bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It is called the world of warcrack syndrom. very old relitivly speaking. i cant beleve they did a study on this.
also ilove the comment
"And in other news: Lemonade Is Refreshing and The Beatles Were Good!" - capn_caveman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anybody ever suck dick for $50 bucks to go buy Halo 2? Fuggin hope not.
- fugitivALiEN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what a load of crap, video games are not an addictive substance or chemical like drugs are... diggin friggin retarded =/
- jwest84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0GA (gamers annonymous) coming to a town near you!

"People who socialize often are revealed to be as addicted to socializing as much as a crack addict is addicted to crack!" - SJspring90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Someone who enjoys gardening a lot, and is shown a flower will do the same thing, all they did was compare three things that people like to do and showed them something that they would all recognize as being something related to their hobby. This proves nothing.
- shawgo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would be a "binge" gamer then.
- ColfaxMingo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm going to find an old Nintendo Power, flip through it and relive that first high.
- nebbyfoshebby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i wonder if someone reads a magazine a lot or if someone hangs out with certain people a lot.. if they react the same as drug users when they do not get to see them... hmmmm this kinda seems pretty dumb.. if you like doing something then you will still want to do it... i don't know about you guys but.. i don't really feel like i have a chemical dependence on video games.. sometimes i will play a lot but other times i wont play for like a week.. and i don't feel like.. sick or anything like.. if someone didn't take crack for a while or something...
no digg :( - blistered, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If we all wore our aluminum foil helmets we could block the addictive mind control signals!-DUH!
- AbaraiRenji, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0'I dont like the games, but the games like me!'
- timro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think all of the comments above say it well.
GAMERS ARE UNIQUE PEOPLE!
One of my favorites from above, "I guess these people see a clipboard and a pencil and have the want to take a study!" - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmmm...being addicted to gaming is guilt free, cannot say the same for people who do drugs etc. unless of course you stay up for 7 days in a row in which your health is put in danger.
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OMFG. We are all crack addicts, that's what it comes down to. Worthless video game playing, football watching, socializing, crack addicts.
"Baby, you are so money and you don't even know it."
I have my gaming down to a "binge" habbit now. I don't play games all week cause I wouldn't have a wife and kid for long if I did. Instead I have gaming night (tonight in fact) where I will play Battlefield 2 from the time I get home, around 5:30pm until I come to the realization that im gonna hate myself for not sleeping for work. Usually about 1am.
Only difference between most gamers and "normal people" is that the normal people sit on their asses in front of the TV watching mind-numbing shows instead of gaming.
I also binge on weekend nights that my wife and I don't go out, after she's in bed, until the wee hours of the morning.
My name is MindTrigger, and I am an addict. Now hand me the controller and piss off. - jamez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0grodius multiple people have died from WOW binges
open your eyes - jamez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0s|t|r|e|e|t|l|a|m|p
-my lame-wannabe-fatal1ty-poser-buddy - Grodius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whoopty doo, addiction is everywhere in the world. People are addicted to food, smoking, not eating, etc. Yes- its similar to drug use, in that its ADDICTIVE, but untill I see a death from a Counter Strike overdose I dont think its nearly as dangerous.
- Sunking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I need the patch...or is there a gum I can chew?
- IraqManiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think they hired a pot-head and immediately forced him to write up things about piracy and drugs, because this makes no sense at all.
- modpancake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I first read that as "digg users"
- Vektuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how come I dont eventually get bored of smoking?
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0they call that trait happiness
- Kimera, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe life is just boring, did they think that one through? Get up, go to work/college/somewhere, come home, go to bed, get up DO THE SAME 365 days a year(give or take holidays, which are becoming more like normal days) for the rest of your LIVES.
yeah i think addictions are good, don't tell me its a waste of life, LIVING is a waste of life *rambling* anyway need to tell this **** to stop spawn camping me on de_dust. Brb - rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Rumor has it that this is just one of the symptoms of the recently discovered Sony Opium 3 virus that has been encoded on all Sony PS2 Cd's. The desired effect is that the victim would carve anything Sony and buy Sony TVs, Stereos and Cameras above and beyond their credit limit. Sony's CEO hailed the virus as a complete success but disagreed that it was a virus. He simply called this an undocumented feature that added value for the game playing public. He also noted that this feature will not be detected on the PS3 but Sony reserves it's right to enhance it's products if it benefits our bottom line. Noted social scientist say that Sony's action has left Sony's fanbois vulnerable to control by other multinational corporations and that they are ripe for manipulation. The Department of Homeland Defense refused to comment but several anonymous sources said that Sony, under presure, will the release the first PS3's to South West Asia with deployment to the US, Great Briton and Europe 3 to 4 months prior to national elections. Finally Sony stated that they will throw a huge sale of all their products offering big discounts to any one that owns a PS2, PSP or that had purchased any Sony Entertainment products in the past.
