It's like they've played every amazing RPG dating back to Final Fantasy 1, and put all of the best elements of them into one game, and made yourself (a customizable PA character) in a party with Gabe and Tycho. It's an episodic game, so after you beat episode one, the second episode will be released and your character stats, items, etc. will all transfer over to the new episode. The game is honestly one of the most fun RPGs I've played in a long, long time and is definitely worth picking up. - duggtodeath, on 05/22/2008, -10/+45After reading some of the flamers comments, I kind of feel sorry for him. He is clearly some overweight, aging loser who woke up one day and realized that he hadn't accomplished anything. I mean, who flames for 3 years straight? And so much so that he shows up in Google searches? He's not even clever or profane like the AVGN or Yahtzee, irrespectively. He's mad at himself for the poor choices he's made and takes it out in a passive-aggressive manner by posting on the Internet where he can choose to ignore negative responses. It's the lamest form of being a loud-mouth.

- snareguy17, on 05/22/2008, -0/+18Major Nelson actually had an interview with the developers of the game and actually brought up the cost as one of the points. They did in fact say it was the largest download for an arcade game and the most expensive yet, and the reasons behind it are that it's going to be an ever expanding episodic game as I mentioned (that is, until the last episode). I imagine the new episodes may be less expensive, but I'm definitely getting my money's worth by playing this game, and am enjoying every minute of it. :)

I had to buy a 2800 point card to get it as I used the last of my points on Rock Band. THE GOOD: Excellent use of cut scenes, the character you create is actually drawn into them so you can see your guy (or girl) interacting with the action. Funny and witty dialog, but that's a given with Penny Arcade, and I expected as much. But my expectations were met and exceeded! I was smiling through most of it, and I even LOL'd a couple times!
The Graphics are quite nice, cartoony, and clean, if you've seen the screenshots or videos you know what I mean. No hardware problems here, I think you could get away with a pretty budget or older system. Pentium 4, a GeForce 6000 class GFX card, and a GIG of RAM should be plenty.
The fighting is real time and quite enjoyable, the animations were sharp, and the ability to block and pull off super moves with the space bar is a nice touch. Special items are plentiful and logically named, so you know what it is you've got.
THE BAD: The special items are plentiful... a little too plentiful. And also if you go back to an area you've already been you can re-smash boxes and garbage cans and re-get the stuff you got the first time around. I found myself getting way more items then I knew what to do with. Hopefully there is somewhere you can sell them.
The cinematic quality could be a bit better, especially the movement/fighting animations, it looks like a really well produced flash animation (Jib Jab or something similar).
It isn't really clear when you should try and block with some of the attacks (I'm looking at you Robo-Pissing move)... I also didn't like how the inventory usage was linked to your attacking. So you could use your inventory item, but that would reset your attacks to nothing, so you would have to wait again for the inventory to power up, then your attacks after that. I would like it better if inventory was separate from the attacks and if each character had their own inventory and it wasn't shared.
Overall though I am very impressed with what I saw, I would say at least 8.5/10 if not more. - estvir, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4No one cares about your generic blog.
