- EnterReality, on 10/02/2008, -0/+54I agree with this comic.
- dreesemonkey, on 10/02/2008, -3/+44Hey, a good comic on the front page for a change!
I, for one, welcome this new bizarro world. - ike0507, on 10/02/2008, -0/+36The best part about MM9, is not having to blow in the cartridge, push down on the game about an inch before entry, and/or blowing in the Nes to make the damn thing work correctly.
- spvn, on 10/02/2008, -1/+37I'll admit it, I've been spoiled by auto-regen hp and lousy AI. I don't want to get my hands on this game, I'd probably kill myself trying to play it.
Even Jeff knew when to let it go: http://www.giantbomb.com/news/mega-man-9-hates-me/ ... - gthyb, on 10/02/2008, -1/+28How badass would that be if they sold it as a NES cart?
- namelessXsilent, on 10/02/2008, -3/+24wrong choice
- sofaKing812, on 10/02/2008, -0/+20The only thing missing from the game is me trying to rush through it before mom takes it back to the video store. Good memories.
- veriix, on 10/02/2008, -1/+21Bless you, one of my enemies was born in bizarro world.
- Royish, on 10/02/2008, -0/+19It is old school+.
- It is all about memorizing.
- Tons of instant death pits., old school jumps and cheap enemy placement.
- 1 checkpoint per level, many times you will start form the beginning after making a considerabel amount of progress
It is fun though, but only if you are into old school hard gaming. Remember there is a good reason why they don't make games like this any more.
It is Pure fan service. - metapop, on 10/02/2008, -0/+162 is definitely my fav, but 9 sure comes close. i was hoping "the mega man 9 effect" meant that more developers are making 8-bit (or even 16-bit for that matter) games... I would love to see an old RPG be made.... Phantasy Star or Shining Force please. If the $$$ made by MM9 is any indication of what gamers want, I hope we're going to see many more releases like this.
- DolphinGL, on 10/02/2008, -6/+22Yahtzee is getting old. It's hard to take his reviews seriously when he hates almost everything. When Gabe or Tycho have either praise or disdain for a game you can usually take it to the bank.
- trademarkhero, on 10/02/2008, -0/+15Gabe made a wallpaper-sized one by request:

- veriix, on 10/02/2008, -4/+17buyers remorse in 3...2..1...
- krekc, on 10/02/2008, -3/+16Buried for inaccuracy. There's no controller smashing out of frustration.
- Triumvirate, on 10/02/2008, -0/+12The X series of games was separate from the original numbered set (there was an X2, X3, X4, etc.) X was not meant to be used as a roman numeral it was a sub-series with a different story than the originals.
- tombomb, on 10/02/2008, -1/+13No. They stopped at Mega Man 6 and started the Mega Man X series (Assume that X does NOT stand for ten). While the Mega Man X series was going on they did make 7 for the SNES and 8 for the PSone. Now that they made Mega Man 9 things have come full circle I guess.
- skyteria, on 10/02/2008, -0/+11I don't know if the Wii can handle the intense graphics.
- dafpoo, on 10/02/2008, -1/+11lol, Penny-Arcade made a comic about this exact same argument/confusion
http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/02/24/ - LoveWidescreen, on 10/02/2008, -1/+11Then get off my lawn, ya young whipper snapper!
- Demener, on 10/02/2008, -0/+8Best use of that meme in weeks.
- ncapone, on 10/02/2008, -2/+10I so want to play Mega Man 9 but I don't have a Wii, PS3 or XBox 360 :(
- goldfenix, on 10/02/2008, -2/+10The original Mega Man series mostly was on NES. The SNES had the X series, for the most part.
If you started with the X series, you are likely under 20. This comic, and the game, are aimed primarily at those about 25 and up.
Edit: Though your profile says 26. Odd that you started with the X series, as you are in the age group that seems like they would have had an NES. - dagnabbit, on 10/02/2008, -0/+8I had pen and paper all ready to write down the grid coordinates for my first save after beating a boss. Just being able to hit "save" and move on is kinda nice too.
- lcmatt, on 10/02/2008, -5/+12You bought a Wii over the 360 when the latter is cheaper and has a better library of games?
- Trifold, on 10/02/2008, -0/+6I don't think he has a 360 either. I think I inferred that when he wrote that he doesn't have a Wii, PS3 or XBox 360 :(
- pixelate, on 10/02/2008, -0/+6http://xorsyst.com/games/capcom-mega-man-9-cartrid ...
- reaper527, on 10/02/2008, -0/+6it did not suck, it was a psx game, and had great graphics for a psx game.
there, fixed your comment for you. - phaseblue, on 10/02/2008, -0/+5I *really* hope this kicks off a huge wave of new 8-bit games. Right down to the old NES music synths, it felt like going home =D
- Royish, on 10/02/2008, -2/+7Hell no, unless you like old school tough games.
Try "I wanna be the guy" for an extreme game of this type. It's free too. - laserdog, on 10/02/2008, -0/+5Ugh, do *not* follow that guy's boss list advice.
Hornet Man is not the place to start if you don't want to smash your controller.
Go after splash woman, she's far easier to beat with the vanilla blaster. - Flatlineskillz, on 10/02/2008, -0/+5Nice to see Penny arcade getting some digg love. XKCD and Zero Punctuation are great but I look forward to Penny Arcade is the original gamer webcomic.
- CLShortFuse, on 10/02/2008, -1/+6Seriously, I thought the game was too hard but you really need to get used to it. We've been pampered with out E-Tank, Charged Shots, and Dashing.
The game is fun, even if it's hard. If you exploit weaknesses, some bosses can be somewhat easy. It's like the old Mega Man games. You need to memorize some stuff and layouts. Sometimes Capcom is just downright mean though, but it's all in good fun.
But I still have to say, if you find Mega Man 9 hard, try the Mega Man Zero games where you can't safely attack from 20 feet away.
Zero > X - KenSPT, on 10/02/2008, -0/+5Yeah, I'm 26, I just never played the Mega Man games for the NES. I was more into Mario and whatnot, but even then I wasn't extremely big into video games at all; I was a casual player at best.
Thanks for the clarification though, I was curious about this ... - ringworm, on 10/02/2008, -0/+5The dpad on the wiimote feels MUCH better than the one on the 360 controller. I'd opt for the Wii.
- inactive, on 10/02/2008, -0/+5Well ya different story, but same world, just takes place in the future, with a newer model Mega Man. Capcom never did explain what happened to the original Mega Man, obviously he died at some point. Haven't played 9 yet, maybe it explains in it.
Figure i'd pimp a link while i'm at it, for the Mega Man game i used to work on :P
http://www.moddb.com/mods/x-buster - error2k2, on 10/02/2008, -0/+5I was 5 when I played Megaman 2. Never finished it but I vowed to one day.
10 years later I downloaded the rom and finished it! The 5 year old me rejoiced! - jon02129, on 10/02/2008, -1/+6lcmatt said:

Come one, tastes = what's better. You can't play all the oldschool classics or Nintendo style games on the 360. - daschupa, on 10/02/2008, -0/+4Ahhh, the series that taught me to curse profusely. So many damned password grids...
- chadsterrr, on 10/02/2008, -0/+4Is it really that therapeutic?
- TheDreadDiggerD, on 10/02/2008, -1/+5Yeah, liek teh spriet tearing n *****
- MaynardJK, on 10/02/2008, -0/+4It sucked.
- kinseyincanada, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4This happened to me but there was a lot more swearing.
- KenSPT, on 10/02/2008, -1/+5This may be a stupid question, but I'm not a huge gamer, so forgive me. But wasn't there already a Mega Man 9, because I remember playing various Mega Man X games as a kid ...
- metaliq, on 10/02/2008, -0/+4I haven't picked this up yet. Trying to decide between the Wii and the 360 version.
Input? - inactive, on 10/02/2008, -0/+4Sorry, no, your comment sadly isn't funny.
- circa1015, on 10/02/2008, -1/+5It did suck, the controls were terrible compared to the NES games, and good level design was replaced by graphical gimmicks.
- JollyDumple, on 10/02/2008, -0/+4Best use of that meme ever.
- Guspaz, on 10/02/2008, -0/+4Mega Man X came out 14 years ago. If he's 26, it's entirely possible that he started with X; he'd have been 12 at the time.
By contrast, Mega Man 3 came out 18 years ago, so somebody my age (23) could still have played it as a kid a year or two after it came out and be a vaguely similar age.
As a kid, I played both, starting with the original before X. And boy, did I suck at it. I can't even get halfway through the first stage in 9. - Demener, on 10/02/2008, -0/+4Wrap it in a shirt before blowing was my ghetto solution. Worked like a charm.
