- Drewskey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+106You are kidding abour the Wii being hard right? RIGHT? The first time I booted up the VC list i dazzed out and later awoke to me accepting charges for 20 bucks from my credit card account from within the store. They made it *TOO* easy.
- Snowy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+95Have you heard of a coin?
Seriously gray crap on your finger nails is a valid concern of yours? - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -10/+84That's funny. I just add points through my Gamercard account on Xbox.com. It takes about 3 seconds and I can do it from anywhere. You can also update your Live account the same way.
- bjkrautk, on 10/12/2007, -14/+82Penny Arcade = Automatic Digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+65You rich bastard....
- Harabeck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+56Its a satire site, of course its a little exagerrated. Just laugh and move on.
- augmental, on 10/12/2007, -7/+39Edit - Nobi-Wan beat me to it..meh!
"I've got all three systems - none of them are super-simple."
WTF? Are you serious? The 360 is sooooo simple and intuitive. You can even add points via Xbox.com. It is almost too easy to purchase things through my 360. - BarryChuckle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+36maybe you should have spent the money on buying a new ass instead?
- yournamehere, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32timdorr:
because this isn't the only country where xbox live exists. in order to make it easy you use points instead. this way the cost scales with the value of the dollar in different parts of the world.
so a game in england is just as much as the same game here in terms of point values however the dollar amount per point is adjusted for the value of the dollar per country.
think global market - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30PS3 Bashing = Front Page
- vampiro852002, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30I am a happy PS3/Wii/360 owner, and that is the funnest thing I have seen in a while. Penny arcade nailed it.
- vampiro852002, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22The sad thing is that I am reading digg, and posting this while at the job that pays me enough to have those toys. Life is good.
PS I worked my ass off to get to this point. - Akaji, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18It's an existential comic. It doesn't need "finished colors".
- Exhaust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17@cJw314
Get a job you hippy!
If you have a fairly decent job and don't spend all your money or whores and crack you could probably buy all three systems too. - Hipple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Interesting... Nobi-Wan is the first one to respond to threepio. Something tells me they've crossed paths before...
- Exhaust, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16@vampiro852002
Hahaha I'm right with you man. I got all three too and I'm sitting at work right now reading Digg.
BTW: I thought the comic was pretty funny. The Sony online experience is super redundant. Why is it every time you download an update you have to agree to freakin license agreement? EVERY FREAKIN TIME. Come on couldn't it say at the bottom.... "Accepting this agreement gives your consent to all future updates WHEN YOU SELECT YES TO DOWNLOAD THEM" Jeebus!
The comic should have added to the end... "Would you like to now install the game you spent an hour downloading?" No i downloaded it so it could sit on my hard drive. - Harabeck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15 It's not supposed to be serious or anything, its a web-comic ffs.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Either that or there just happen to be a lot of geeks on Digg. Who would've thought?
Pretty funny to notice that, though. - r00t3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Don't digg him down, he's transmitting RAGE.
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9yeah, the playstation bashing has been held off until after GDC. depending on the announcements, it may get better or actually get worse, if possible.
- NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"Will Sony give you money?"
PS3 does take PSCards. It's right in the main menu. In japan it even takes a form of debit card - asurroca, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Exactly! I've got the Xbox 360 and Wii, and I could buy a PS3 if I wanted to. In fact, every time I go to a store to buy an Xbox or Wii game or accessory, I see a stack of PS3s LOL ... oh wait, we've stopped making fun of that fact here, haven't we?
- vampiro852002, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I have to agree. As screwed up as the PS3 store is at least they use real money. I think that the Wii has the best of both worlds. They use points, but the scale makes sense.
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13PA is great- but I bet 99.9% of digg users already read it. Are we going to start digging every PA comic? It seems that way, recently.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I dugg it as a conversation piece, because I wanted to see what other people thought of the consoles' online stores. I only have a Wii, so I don't really know what XBLA and Sony's store are like. And it's interesting to see how people respond to the different approaches the console makers take to things.
- gDubz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5***** Digg effect! Leave PA alone :(
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9xbox live is simple at first, but try to change credit cards, cancel a card or cancel service altogether... then let me know your opinion. =)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@marvin:
"Will Sony give you money? No only credit cards? Sucks if you want to give a gift card to a younger relative isn't?"
They are implementing the Playstation card, already use it in Japan and a card reader is rumored as well. After the March update we should be able to purchase these things online or in retail outlets in other countries.
BTW what's so hard about using a Visa gift card? You hand a teller $25 and they hand you back a Visa with only $25 on it. AMEX and Mastercard have been doing this for years. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3>> Trust me.
No. - Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't own a PS3, nor do I plan to purchase one anytime soon due to it's price and no games that currently interest me, but I do own a Wii and Xbox360. From what ive heard about the PS3's store however, it sounds like Sony did a great job on their online store (not their online service as a whole, just the store). You can see the actual amount in your currency the item costs, you can buy just exactly that. Simple as that. Not to mention that I heard that so far the PS1 games on there are $6 each. No doubt multi-disk or very popular games will cost more in the future, but $6 for a full large ps1 game compared to what Nintendo or MS are charging (especially Nintendo, at least the 360's prices are somewhat reasonable) thats a very good price.
With the Wii I need to buy a pre-set amount of points. If I want to buy something thats 500 points, I neeed to buy either a 1000 point set or 2000 point set. And what happens if I buy something thats say.... 600 points? Now since I was forced to buy the 1000 point set at a minimum, id have 400 points left over that I cannot use...... unless I buy ANOTHER set of points in order to buy more VC stuff and probably again end up with an amount that I cannot use. See where I am going here? Sure sure "nobody is forcing you to spend that other 400 points" but thats now $4 I have in my account that I cannot convert back to cash, what am I supposed to do with it? I wanted that other $6 item after all, if I could buy exactly $6 worth of points instead of $10 or $20 this wouldent be a problem..... and don't even get me started on VC prices. The cards being a pre-set value I understand, but why online?
Xbox360 does this too, you need to buy preset amounts of points, but unlike the Wii the points arent even based on an exact dollar amount. At least it also has some very small (albet usually kinda useless) transactions of below 100 points that I can spend the remaining amount on. And I feel for what you get, the prices on Xbox360's stores are more reasonable than the Wii. - mrRB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Their point was that Sony increasingly seems to be trying to shoot their image in the foot. Tycho observed that they had a perfect chance for some much-needed good PR, and they screwed it up.
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I like the idea that at least the Sony store deals in money and not a ridiculous point system. I'll give them credit for that, but yeah your first transaction with them is about the same as this comic. After that it's a few seconds an item.
- jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11I like the pricing in the Sony store most games are very reasonably priced. It makes my Wii Virtual Console look like a total rip off.
edit: Sorry guys wrong thread. - darushin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@cJw314
I guess it was too hard asking mommy and daddy to raise your allowance to allow you to afford them? - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just bought fl0w last night. Except for panel 3, it's exactly the same process as on Xbox 360. Why Sony doesn't start downloading automatically though, I don't get.
It's a funny comic. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I've done that multiple times, actually. I subscribed to Xbox Live using one debit card that I no longer use, then bought some Microsoft points using another card. I didn't encounter any problems.
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3did you know that if you stood outside a restaurant that gave you bad service [once] and started ranting like this and called for the destruction of the building and company, they would call you a raving madman and call the police on you? =)
- rufo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3True, that is annoying. Still, if you want more points, you click on the button and you have more points before you can blink. It's almost too easy.
- mlvassallo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I dugg for Penny Arcade, but the quote from the news post has NOTHING to do with the comic.
The quote is in reference to Kotaku's recent out with Sony over a published rumor. - rufo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hey, why did I get dugg down? I am the submitter, you know... ;-)
- timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9But they do have a point: Why do you have to put your money into a "points" system in the first place? Can't you just say "this game is $5, enter your CC details here"? I understand there's marketing reasons and it does drive people to overspend, but it's just confusing as crap for no apparent reason.
If anything, they should do it like the iTunes store. You put your credit card info on your account and it's used whenever you make a purchase. Then you can get gift cards and add stored value to the account at any point in time. In fact, they could make the points valued more than straight up cash to keep people buying them, but still offer the once-off purchase option for people that want the convenience. In fact, they'd make *more* money that way! - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1makes since =? makes sense
- nattybohman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like to use the best buy gamer gift card and get $5 off every time you buy a Wii or 360 points card.
- tsuki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What the hell was that?
- freetyme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wii store: That will be 1000 points
Customer: So how much is each point worth
Wii store: one cent, your game will be 10 dollars
Customer: Well at least that makes since, I just don't like buying points in increments of 1000 all the time..
Wii store: Well you never complained about money being left over on your iTunes card
Customer: Well..I can just use that money later...
Wii store: and your point? - AvalonDrew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A bit late.
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ popfrogs:
see... the publicity stunt worked. lol. - GrantTheGr8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@tiraid: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mooninites#Mooninites
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1only because they dont have queued downloads. you can buy several items at once, and download when you want. once they allow you to queue downloads this should go away.
- FcukDt7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@yournamehere
You're half right... the system means you'd imagine all the prices to be the same worldwide, but I worked it out, and here in England we're still getting ripped off. I still prefer this method though. -
