- scottylist, on 10/12/2007, -4/+117PayPal is a piece of *****: http://www.paypalsucks.com
It's criminal how they keep your money for 180 days after THEY close your account.
The internet needs an alternative payment system. Google Checkout needs to wake the ***** up.
/done ranting. - darkixion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+76People would use Google Checkout for eBay auctions if eBay hadn't banned it as a method of payment: http://business.guardian.co.uk/story/0,,1815546,00.html
Doesn't this violate some anti-competitive law or something? - dBLiSS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+55Paypal screwed me once and debited my account $100 so I just didn't pay it. couple months later I got a notice from a collection agency in England. Again, I did nothing. That was 1 1/2 years ago. Haven't heard from them since. ***** you paypal.
- arniebuteft, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42I'm curious to hear exactly why selling a PS3 would be risky... I see thousands of PS3 auctions going on right now, and they aren't being closed left and right. What happened in this case that makes it so unique?
- Eastlygod, on 10/12/2007, -17/+52We are capable of clicking the link and reading ourselves you know....
- FearNLoathing, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34He must have forgotten to click the link in the "Your PayPal account has been suspended" email.
- DrPh0bius, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26Why would they need to ask YOU for information to access your account???
Are you sure this wasnt a request from a Nigerian business man who wanted you to transfer money from South Africa to your bank account? :P - Supernova36, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Anyone else find the line "After sending all of the information that they requested to get full access to my PayPal account" a little suspicious?
- geodescent, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21How about not buying one? It's cheaper.
- charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21You sure this isn't another scam email?
- Elias1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I'm in a similar situation right now.
I pre-ordered a PS3 from Toys-R-Us and sold it on eBay. The buyer paid with paypal. Paypal immediately shut down my account until I provided proof of shipment for the PS3.
On launch day, Toys-R-Us gave me the shaft and said they couldn't full fill my pre-order. I apologized to the buyer and issued a full refund. He was very polite and understanding. (probably also happy since current PS3 prices were half what he paid for my pre-ordered PS3)
Despite numerous emails, my account is still "limited" nearly a week after issuing the refund. - jdstorer2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Sounds like someone shouldn't open spam emails. It says specifically somewhere that they'll never ask for your information. Why should they? They have 100% access to your data and money!
- TimDub, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13yeah, something smells phishy.
- waz67, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13That's why you shouldn't sell stuff you don't have.
- rebrane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Hey, if someone wants to pay $1,051 for a Playstation, that's their prerogative. I don't see why PayPal isn't happy to take their cut of that wad.
This is the auction that the guy is complaining about:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-Playstation-3-Premium-System-60GB-PS3-OVERNIGHT_W0QQitemZ140054993722QQihZ004QQcategoryZ62054QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem - jdstorer2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13I'm pretty sure PayPal doesn't require any information from you, considering they have all that already.
Only a fraudulent 3rd party would need your information. - CMiYC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Exactly. What information did he send to who and why? Why would PayPal need his help for full access to his account? They already have it.
I think this guy got scammed, and scammed good. - MikeEnIke, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Nope. Paypal does this from time to time for all types of things, they limit your account and ask for all kinds of stuff.
- krewemaynard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11"After sending all of the information that they requested to get full access to my PayPal account..."
Sounds scam-ish to me. Maybe someone else can get his PIN while he's in a sharing mood. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11last year a man with a great rep and i believe a 3 year history as a seller of high priced items sold like 200k of ipods and such and didnt send anyone anything. I ruined many peoples christmases including the complaint dept at ebay. I am betting this is why.
- MisterWhippy, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15Smells like 'fear of Sony' to me in light of the Lik-Sang debacle perhaps?
Is it just me or are Sony acting like complete c*nts right now? - brettotte1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I know this to be true. I HATE Paypal's language they use...."we'd like to begin the process of parting ways". What the hell is that? I got closed b/c after many years of selling they deemed my Paypal account UNPROFITABLE since I had the same x.com acct that was 100% & a PERSONAL ACCT for over 7 years & 1500+ FB.
Once you get 6 complaints filed by you or by others in total your acct gets red flagged. Um, yeah, any seller knows that eventually you're gonna run into some screwball that CAN'T EVEN READ the auction description & are IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE. Yeah, 4 of those complaints were from ME for getting inaccurate items or nothing at all!
They review your profitability & if they don't like the numbers they suspend your paypal acct & then turn around and tell ebay which is one in the same now. Ebay then emails you stating they noticed that your PP acct is closed therefore you might not be a good person, so they indefinitely suspend your ebay acct too! - eswartz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yeah, google needed an auction site, like, by yesterday.
- nusblog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8direct print version (no ads)
http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?threadID=1000389454&print=true - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Damn those capitalists! Eh, comrads? EH?
- Arkonnan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Translation: You have a lot of money in your account and we want to collect interest on it. Screw you and have a nice day!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's simple. Never use Paypal for anything. I never do.
- gizmo490, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"'So I refunded the 2nd guy his money again, stating that I could not get to the funds, so I could not send him his PS3.'
I am not completely sure but that may be why [he] got [his] account pulled. Looks to me like contacting the bidder and canceling the auction violates the Seller Non-Performance clause even though [his] Pay Pal account was frozen (See: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/seller-non-performance.html). Still sucks though."
(quoting myself from ebay not just pasting someone else's reply if any of you notice) - jumanji69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6http://www.bidpay.com
E-bay users are being forced to find alternatives to paypal, BidPay is the current front runner.
Man I wish google would open up an auction site. - carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8what karma? what did he do wrong?
edit: right, price whoring. forgot about that. - krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -1/+5the issue is not people with great rep scamming. it's people with great rep getting their account stolen (from under their nose) and then scammers using those accounts to rip people off. that's why they probably wanted to send him multiple letters - to verify that it really was him.
- AlexMax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I used paypal for a couple of years until they froze SomethingAwful donations made to the Red Cross durring the Hurricane Katrina fiasco. I promptly canceled my account and haven't bothered to reopen it since.
Glad to see they haven't changed at all. - federalstreet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4paypal sucks. and this is just one more reason why! stay away from payapl! use bidpay if you're an auction seller/bidder, or google checkout/base for everything else.
- Black2lip, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Someone should stop Sony in their raid with their PS3, it already costs us Lik-Sang :-(
I truly hope the PS3 will be a huge flop, so far I haven't heard much positive words on the PS3.
Now lets see how many Sony fan-boys will bury this post ;-) - wbradney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3>>Ya, tell that to Wall Street
You do realize there's a difference between commodities and stock, right? - Hurricane, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3eBay has been bastards for a while and every since they bought PayPal that company has gone to hell too.
I remember the old days when eBay gave a damned about people instead of just the bottom line and PayPal was a separate company that was actually very nice to deal with.
The two definitely have a monopoly on the auction and electronic payments business, nobody else can even get their foot in the door to try to offer consumers a better solution. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The guy opened a website with all of the details and proof: http://web.tampabay.rr.com/miahzshiznitz/eBay-PayPal-Dispute/
- BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't get me started on eBay and PayPal. They just ***** me in the ass, big time. It's a long story... They are a very evil, monopolistic corporation and I hope someone burns down their ***** headquarters. These guys are simply outrageous when it comes to what they get away with. Customers are garbage to them. I guess this is what happens when you have 99% of the online auction market share. Try to work something out or reason with them sometimes. All you will get are Indian drones who can barely put two English sentences together cutting and pasting standard responses and then disconnecting you when you tell them what you think about their evil practices. :(
BTW, what would happens if I close my accounts and refuse to pay? Will they turn it over to a collection agency? Can that ruin my good credit standing? - v00doo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3lol selling ps3 'broke' his account, but selling a wii didn't. sony get at you in ways you cant even imagine!
- Fotograffiti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It doesn't sound suspicious at all. Paypal is doing this right now to me and I am logging directly into there site. They locked my account and when I provided all the information they asked for, they said they needed delivery confirmation. I sent them tracking numbers showing successful delivery and signature confirmation, and then they refuse once again to take limitations off my account. Now they want invoices and names and numbers of suppliers to prove that I didn't steal the PS3 that I sold. I have been with Paypal and Ebay for years without anyone complaining about me and now they act like I am a common criminal. It sounds like the buyer is enjoying the PS3 that I bought for her (according) to the Ebay feedback she left, so that is nice to hear. Paypal and Ebay have no trouble taking their fees from what they think could be a suspicious sale, but nobody else will see any money from it.
- CMiYC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He's whining because he got scammed. Only now he realized why it sucks so much.
- MikeEnIke, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Not if they decide to limit your account and make you jump through a ton of loops just to get access back. It's currently happening to me in fact.
- dBLiSS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@flameboy
It hasn't yet anyway. My bank just called a couple weeks ago to offer me a line of credit. So they still seem to think my credit is fine. (I must note, I'm In Canada so maybe the English credit agency had little recourse). - brunobf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If you read the story more carefully, you will see that he was trying to sell a pre-order for the Playstation 3. Ebay banned his account because they were trying to reduce the amount of scams involving pre-orders. It does make some sense since the amount of hardware available initially is very low.
But I still dislike Ebay / Paypall politics.... for example, banning Google Checkout as a payment method. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ibeetle "and if you look at his account his account has been previously suspended for possible fraud; to the point that he had to change is eBay account information and name."
Where do you come up with this crap, the fact that he changed his user ID is no indication of fraud you idiot. If that were true he would have simple closed the account and opened a new one, it's just as easy to do in fact.
If he was trying to hide the fact that he changed his ID, it didn't work, and you are an idiot as mentioned.
@ibeetle Idiot #2, the pre-order auction was very clear, as was the non pre-sale auction. - jbizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I used paypal for years. They shut me down and said they wanted to "part ways." They kept over $1,000 for 6 f***ing months!!! They don't care about thier users at all.
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Futures, anyone?
- rebrane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It sounds like it's because PayPal doesn't want to be a party to any scams. The first sale doctrine says pretty clearly that if you buy a PS3, Sony can't limit your right to sell it. Unless it has a shrinkwrap license?
- aristoworks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Paypal sucks! They've screwed me for NO REASON. Now I can't send/receive NOR use my credit cards to purchase virtually anything. Should be outlawed.
- slpmep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm no fan off of large corporations but I believe the simple issue here is that Paypal and Ebay guarantee their end customers in some way, and when sellers/companies take monies for things that they don't actually have [ i.e. presell ] and then default, then Paypal and Ebay are on the hook to refind real dollars back to the buyers....
While I assume most sellers are honest, there are in fact [because it's not the ideal world we all believe it should be ] some % of sellers who are fake.
So the question is, how many fake sellers can Paypal 'subsidize' before they have to start acting/closing businesses ?
I do believe their actions however seem extreme, and there could have been better way so to handle this type of situation... -
