- sycotic, on 10/27/2007, -2/+61"One of the biggest if not THE BIGGEST development in the PSP hacking scene has just unfolded."
now THAT is a good opening sentence, if ever I saw one - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29Who wants to bet the PSP battery will be one of the top sellers on amazon this week?
- RDJ134, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30As you can see when hacker teams unite the sky is the limit, and i do have a bricked PSP of a mate here and guess what i am going to unbrick tommorow :) Tnx guys respect.
- farhanfarn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26if it wernt for the homebrew the psp would have been dead by now and yet sony STILL condemns it
i admit iso loaders suck for sony but homebrew opens up a whole new world on the psp - Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21The only bricks now are the ones Sony is going to be ***** when they hear of this.
- Daisuke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17If I were Dark_AleX, it wouldn't just be the spotlight I'd be most concerned about - it's the fact that everybody puts so much pressure on you, a single developer, to release a quality product, on time, and, on top of all that, for close to free (just how many people actually donated?) Even if you're a talented person, there's only so much you can do in an environment like that. He was important, yes, but there must have been a LOT of stress behind that moniker.
- Schrade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15This is awesome. Now you can downgrade your friends' PSPs that upgraded to official 3.51 or 3.52 firmware! Also never worrry about bricks again! Too awesome. Thanks Team N00bz!
- DropTheOxygen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14If anyone wants it....
http://rapidshare.com/files/50690213/pandora.zip - bigbadgoat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13I thought dark_alex was out of the scene. Myabe he just doesnt want to be in the spotkight anymore. This guy should be paid to do what he does.
I don't think anyone would object too much to a paypal donation link on his site - TaeBoX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12You can own a DS and not be a moron at the same time.
- bigslam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Well that was the plan. Unfortunately a leak caused the release to be earlier.
- Cyberbladewolf, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Actually, they can't make a firmware update that would be immune to this. The Jigkick doesn't rely on the firmware for flash writing; if it did, it wouldn't very well be able to fix a brick, would it? What they can do is change the hardware in various ways, such as changing the batteries or motherboard.
- federico69, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Massive, Massive News. All those outside the PSP Scene will never understand how big this really is .... no excuse now go buy a PSP and put custom firmware on it to your hearts content. My PSP is my best friend, if only my 1 hour train trip every morning was longer ... ;)
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Now would be the best time ever to buy bricked PSP's off of ebay.
Although that would be a super ***** move. - devilishinc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Greetings to all Team C+D members !!!
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9There's no way that they'd be able to patch it though. They might be able to modify future hardware to start up in a different manner, but the jigkick/memory stick combo work even in the absence of firmware so nothing that they do to the downloadable firmwares will be able to do anything about this development.
I just did it on a PSP totally devoid of functional firmware (full brick) and it worked like a charm. - FatherG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9More like Lazarus.
- DropTheOxygen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8And another if RS takes it down
http://rapidshare.com/files/50691093/pandora.zip - serpentor, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Crap, they should have held off on releasing this until after the PSP Slim was released. Now Sony can probably implement a fix to keep those babies un-downgrade-able for as long as possible...

Nice to see all the PSP devs coming together in Woodstock-like fashion - especially with all the ps3*.com ***** happening lately. - LtXenodite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7In other news, PSP battery retail sales and bricked PSP sales on eBay skyrocketed today by a whopping 150 thousand percent.
- ldbobby, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Who's got a bricked PSP for sale?
- Zettabyte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It's more happy publishers and developers. There has to be a balance.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It works! I just finished the flashing process and my PSP is as good as new. Holy crap their timing couldn't have been better.
- Holosoth, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Too bad I can't report a comment for being stupid.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It's not like every PSP owner knows about this yet.
- misshapes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7"Unfortunately something happened to shatter the idyll. Somehow, the unbricker was leaked into the wider world before it was ready to be released. Whether this was deliberate, by one of the team members, or accidental via a security breach is still unclear. The fact is that this unbricker appeared on the black market, being sold for huge prices. As far as we know, it is probably very close to the same software that appears in at least some of the 'magic unbricker'/'jigkick' videos.
So, although the time was not right to release this (it would have been wise to wait at least until the PSP Slim release), our hand has been forced. In order to prevent small fortunes being made by leeches, we are giving this unbricker away for free."
http://www.noobz.eu/joomla/news/pandoras-battery.html/ - theghoul, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Ya know the PS3 has firmware updates too :)
Media player with HD anyone? Anyone? - placidified, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6yeah i agree. Sony needs to embrace homebrew by releasing an SDK, which wont happen because Sony doesn't want happy customers, where is the fun in happy satisfied customers?
- dinopio, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9OMG!!!!!!!!
- h3llscaper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Is D_A Jesus? Because this is like the second coming of PSP Homebrew.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Sometimes when ***** goes wrong during downgrading or upgrading a firmware, you get a brick. Which means you can't do anything, it just has a green light when you turn on. With this, you can modify any battery and any memory stick to unbrick your psp. So its working again.
Also with this, you can downgrade any single firmware. 3.51/3.52, anything. Heres hoping for the 3.6 on the PSP slim too! - coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5My idiot ass bought another 1.5 PSP on ebay right when my first bricked (from the whole PS3news fiasco). Eh. At least my girlfriend has one now!
- ipen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5If I was this developer, I would have stocked up on Bricked PSPs on eBay, released the software, and then sold them all.
- h3llscaper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4So ***** true, all this week I've been telling someone at work to take the plunge and buy a PSP. He's been riding the fence about downgrading/custom firmwares and the risks associated, then I showed him that this dropped and now he is buying one tonight!
LONG LIVE THE PSP HOMEBREW SCENE, LONG LIVE TEAM C+D - PSP GODS - lolhax, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5blogspam? That's the link to the team which released the software you jackass.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Incorrect. You need a PSP with custom firmare to reprogram the battery an create the memory stick used in reflashing.
Once this is done you can use them on any psp currently out there. The PSP you use them on dosen't have to have custom firmware, or even working firmware. - Daisuke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4and, seriously, if this service mode was build into the hardware (which it looks like it is), you could probably downgrade every psp upgraded to even the latest firmware at any point in the future (though i guess you have to expect hardware revisions now, in both the psp and battery.)
- gamehunter101, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4great job to the crew who pulled this off
- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5On the other hand, how many more PSP will they sell now that it is a *really* attractive piece of kit?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Well, I don't think anyone is willing to sell it anymore if they do :P
Prices on ebay are going up by a lot too. - o0joshua0o, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No. It also doesn't unbrick PSPs that stopped working because they were literally smashed with a brick.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I tried it and it worked like a charm. Just reverted my battery back to normal on my second PSP and everything is perfect. Couldn't have been simpler.
I DID have one problem though, the msformat tool didn't work on my Vista box so I had to go over to XP. After that everything went smoothly. - demodawid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Why? the sites's up, and you can download it from respectable sites like pspupdates.qj.net
just saying. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4oh i am getting as many of these bricks as possible. gonna make a fortune with a revive PSP and part of the money will be donated to the whole PSP scene. without any one of those guys we would have never ever seen how awesome the PSP. Thank you PSP developers, your work is truly appreciated by us.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4 Cool. I'm still trying to confirm if that Toshiba 8gb memory works in the PSP.
- brolli33, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3This is great. But then again you still need to find a Homebrew Enabled PSP. If this worked with a Non-Homebrew'd PSP, this is would be the greatest thing. But you'll also need a spare battery and memory for the "JigKick Battery" and "Magic Memory Stick".
Buying a spare battery and stick aren't really the problems, but until I find a Homebrew'd PSP in my town, and got some spares, there's still some waiting to be done for me. - coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3You do not need a spare memory card to make the "magic memory stick" the only reason that it's magic is because it has some files in the root that boot straight off of the stick with the help of the JigKick battery.
The extra battery is needed though (but only for the first boot. It can be changed back to normal by switching the batteries out while plugged in and running the battery program again). - coheedcollapse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Just yesterday I saw a lot of two bricked PSP's go for $40 including shipping. Sucks to be the guy who sold those.
- smackhero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yea, it's retarded to run executables posted by some random forum poster. qj.net is unlikely to go down, and there are a ton of other safe reliable sources.
