yes, because we've all been waiting 25+ years to see pacman in HD - icepick314, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13it doesn't feel the same without a joystick....
gamepad just doesn't do right in XBLive Arcade games....need to bring out simple arcade joystick...
and here are list of the acheivements...
1. All Ghosts - Eat all ghosts in succession after eating a Power Pellet.
2. Clear Round 5 - Beat the first five rounds.
3. Perfect - Eat all ghosts four times within a stage.
4. Clear Round 21 - Clear round 21.
5. Cherry - Eat a Cherry, Round 1.
6. Strawberry - Eat a Strawberry, Round 2.
7. Orange - Eat a Orange, Round 3 or 4.
8. Apple - Eat a Apple, round 5 or 6.
9. Melon - Eat a Melon, Round 7 or 8.
10. Galboss - Eat a Galboss, Round 9 or 10.
11. Bell - Eat a Bell, Round 11 or 12.
12. Key - Eat a Key, Round 13. - Rayonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I wonder if you'll get an achievement for crashing the game with the split-screen level:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacman#Split-screen_level - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Last I checked (about a week after it was released) Uno had over 60,000 people buy it. That's $300,000 in revenue for a small, easy to make game.
People do buy live arcade games. It's been insanely popular.
If anything, they tested if people would pay money for gamer pictures. They did, and now they're cashing in.
Bethesda tried to see if anyone would spend $5 on a skin (which they actually took out of the game, so they could sell it individually). They did, and now they're cashing in.
It works. There's no arguement. - scottauth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6...but playing on the web isn't nearly as fun as sitting around the living room with your friends and wasting time playing games on a huge hd-tv while putting a few beers back.
- newevilmind, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9it's $5 dude. what's the big deal?
- sleepyness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This happens with FF. -.-
- Zoltak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I thought that this was the end of the originally announced titles, but that the actual program was going to continue for a while.
- Pitfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4People still pay for pacman? I like pacman as much as the next person, but there's plenty of free versions on the web.
- ubergmr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i do agree that these classic games are a rip off, a lot of the indie titles are great. I have probably spent more time playing UNO, geometry wars, marble blast, and cloning clyde, then i have spent with actually 360 games. In addition all these games only cost me $30.
- Ocelot13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yea, me and one other person i play with were up waiting for pacman to come out, we were checking every couple minutes to see if it was added. we figured 3 a.m on the east coast since that will put washington at midnight (i think...), it ended up coming out at like 4:10, we got it and played. its worth 400 points in my opinion when you look at how much cell phone companies charge for games...
- hoowahman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3they are taking advantage now of not many games on XBLA, if there were a list of 100 to choose from and this came out im sure it would be less to buy.
- ubergmr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would hardly call these classic games HD, all they do is add a nice HD backdrop behind the game, the actual play area looks exactly the same.
- roadies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Live Wednesdays are not quite dead yet:
09 August: Pac-Man
16 August: Texas Hold 'Em
23 August: Time Pilot
30 August: Scramble
06 September: Lumines Live!
http://kotaku.com/gaming/tag/lumines-live-dated-192552.php - josegutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I love to play Cloning Clyde... It's Soooo much FUUN!
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4if you don't like apple stories, turn off the apple section.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This game should cost 100 points at most, or if anything they should pack this game with at least 4-5 others for as much as it costs.
- nattybohman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Just stick to the Gaming section of DIGG.
At least you know you won't run into any Apple stories there! - SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2MAME itself isn't technically illegal. The ROM files that it needs to play are (unless you bought them from someone licensed to sell them)
- thrustbucket, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6I would much rather see digg loaded up with mundane Xbox 360 stories than all the Apple/Mac crap I have to trudge through.
My hell, I swear if an employee at Apple farts, we have to see it on digg. If Steve Jobs successfully extricated the puss from the pimple on his behind, I'm sure it would be a top story on digg. - Measure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was using the T-bar Trick last night... then when i wanted to show it off to someone, it failed.
I think you have to wait for 30 seconds or so before you go into the T-bar corner for it to work properly - kilodelta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1speaking of being able to turn things off, i wish we could turn Nintendo stories off.
seriously, do we all need the dozen new wii stories every day? - LocalH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or dumped them yourself.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That's the point: it's $5 for PAC-MAN! A game that's been around almost as long as Pong!
And to compare it to other games like Bejeweled and other arcade games just makes my point more valid. $10 for a game I get for free on my phone? At least UNO cost less than a standard UNO deck...that purchase at least makes some sort of sense. This game should have been sold with Galaga, Joust, and Frogger for maybe 600 points.
When Nintendo re-released a bunch of its old games on the GBA at least the rehashes came with 3 or more ports along with it. - YoHowdy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The controls don't work very well...you get stuck making turns so I wouldn't buy it until they fix that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I doubt they're charging so that they'll make money. I think they're charging for these games for the sake of markest research, mostly. To see what percentage of people are willing to pay for content over xbox live, how much they're willing to pay...and so on.
Microsoft would probably be happy to break even with the xbox 360. They're probably still in the mindset of "kill off the competition and make tons of cash in 3rd - 4th generation".
Seems like they look way down the road when entering markets. /shrug. - ka0tic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The A.I on Pac-Man sucks. I mean i can stay in one corner for a good 30 seconds without the ghosts even noticing me :/.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Compared to other XLA games, this is a decent price...
Try $10 for bejeweled!
Or $10 for a game that to this day is so broken you can't get all the achievements (Outpost Kaloki X)
Yes, it's a game you can play anywhere for free... But for the convience of being able to play it on a HD console, it's worth it to some. - SnyperVash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ka0tic
And would that happen to be the infamous T Bar Corner ? No.. it isnt..i downloaded PacMan for Live Arcade and I tried that T Bar trick, it doesnt work. Its not the original Pacman Code. - lomis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Any idea if this was kept in the 360 version?
- dsjr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The "technically" part is the fun part :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I would get Namco classics on my Xbox if I didn't have Namco museum for Gamecube. Tell me when they get Rally x or Bosconian.
- thrustbucket, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Well for one, M.A.M.E is technically illegal.
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1xbox + XBMC - $500 cost for a 360 - $5 cost to get pacman = enough beer money to make pacman look like he's being beamed right into your visual cortex, no HDTV neeeded.
- McNubbins, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Nice. I picked up SF2 last week for eight hundred points (zoinks) and I'm considering this now. I wish they would come out with more 400 point games or maybe change the point scheme to 200/400/600/800 or at least 400/600.
Paying 800 points for Street Fighter was kind of harsh, they usually drop their "classic" games down to 400. - ReCkLeSsX, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2For some other arcade games on Live, buying them is somewhat worth it.
But Pacman...? Come on... - dsjr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Why waste your time with this (unless you're a points whore), when you can do this for free with M.A.M.E.?
- pumacub, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Except for Cloning Clyde, all the recently released games suck (including SFII, I want Cammy!).
- newevilmind, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2a lot less than $5? how inexpensive do you want it to be?
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4Man, I hear this pacman game is amazing. Watch out its gonna be the game of the year. I hear the game gameplay, graphic, and level design is amazing.
- McMultiverse, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Are we going to see this for every XBox Live Arcade game? I mean, certain 360 events are most definitely news. A standard game release is not. Please stop turning the front page into advertisement space.
