- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -23/+122What the hell Sony?? First you want us to buy all your proprietary software (Blu-ray, UMD) and now you want to REQUIRE all PSP owners ($200+ investment) that would like to play PSone games to have to have a PS3 ($500-600 investment).
Well, to that, I say ***** you. I'll keep my homebrew and screw you over by never buying a PSP game ever again... or even a PS3 for that matter. - Beelzebub, on 10/12/2007, -9/+62Sony? Screwing customers? NOOOOO.....unpossible!
- DTAL, on 10/12/2007, -6/+47Sony always tries to screw PSP gamers over, we just screw them right back.
- DesolataX, on 10/12/2007, -22/+48That is so dumb. It's all about money for $ony, trying to get as much cash as they can, nickel and diming us for everything they possible can.
I'm sorry sony, but I won't be buying a PS3 anytime soon, not even PS1 emulation can persuade me. - darkphan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy a PS1 if you wanted to play PS1 games??
- Zero2aHero, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23This was the only reason I wanted to keep my PSP. I did however sell it a few months ago to get a DS Lite and now I'm glad I did.
- thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21http://www.pcsx.net/
also kids, dont forget about xbins. - hcl40u, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18One of the interviews(IGN I believe) said that PS1 game downloads will require a PS3 INITIALLY and PC/PSP support sometime later.
- downlo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17What, you mean like this?
http://pspupdates.qj.net/PSX-P-PS1-Emulator-v2-Released-/pg/49/aid/73441 - triplehelix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15its a rumor based on a manual blurb. sony said that it will INITIALLY require a ps3 and will be capable via psp only later. here's another story to disprove the last FUD article that made the front page:
http://digg.com/gaming_news/PS3_can_display_720p_1080i_and_1080p_no_problem - danneyboey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Wrong. The whole point of the article is that the manual contradicts with the earlier statement from the Sony rep. Therefore this article is accurate.
- scootinger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I'm sure that someone in the PSP hacking community will figure out a way to install PSX ISOs from a PC and run it on this...
- soulscreme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I love this site. It really does suck to be at the top of your market like Sony is, because everybody wants to talk ish. I mean, they are releasing a feature to purchase PS1 games for $5 on their online store and play them on the PSP. But they are screwing the customers? Last time I checked that is something that users want. I mean, they are going out of their way to do something cool for PS3/PSP owners and people want to ***** on them. You don't see Nintendo letting you download Wii Virtual Console titles to the DS. And if they did I bet that nobody would be bitching that you need a Wii to do it. Honestly, you people are the worst type of internet *****. Trying pulling your head out of your ass and thinking for a second. Maybe, just maybe, Sony is actually trying to give users what they want, within the realm of reason.
- triplehelix, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13people don't want to hear that. they want to run with any shred of material they can bash sony with.
- cheztir, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16Wow saggy you're on a roll tonight. They're screwing us over (yes "us" i own a PSP, never plan to buy a PS3) because just a month ago they stated the PSP wont require the PS3 to play PS1 games. Now if thats not screwing than i dunno what is.
- AnotherBrian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The reason we are saying that Sony is screwing PSP owners is because there is NO actual technological reason to require the PS3 to transfer PS1 games to the PSP. In fact adding the PS3 to the equation just complicates things.
- ReCkLeSsX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I'm pretty sure they'll eventually work their way onto not needing the PS3. You're overacting a bit.
- triplehelix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8you are clueless to the ridiculous sums of money the gates have donated.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13...because MS has a portable game machine...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@Imthedarkcyde:
Yeah it'd be really horrible if someone stole PS1 games. Coz, you know, they're so fresh and recent and the developers have yet to recoup their costs.
Seriously, look around you. Can you even walk into any store and *find* a ps1 game these days? Probably not. So who cares if people are trading old PS1 games to play on a modern PSP? Sony should be *promoting* this feature and letting people download the games via a portal. - Stompp, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9@danneyboey
I hate to break it to you, but manuals aren't the most up to date source of information... just like the firmware that comes with a console isn't going to be the latest version when it's still being "tweaked".
As much as I love a good sony thrashing, the manual isn't a good source of "proof" to contradict them. - Harabeck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Uhh, theyre a business dude. Even Nintendo is in the market for money...
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Although accurate this is almost non-news! Why?...
PSX-P (for portable) also known as the PSP's PSX Emulator has been out already. It doesn't require a PS3, its free, and its homebrew!!!
Its even out of alpha and the second version is out. You can try it out today. The future reiterations will be faster and it won't cost you a dime.
http://pspupdates.qj.net/PSX-P-PS1-Emulator-v2-Released-/pg/49/aid/73441 - user123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Apparently not working ->
http://duggmirror.com/gaming_news/PSP_users_screwed_by_Sony_PS1_gaming_requires_PS3 - se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Wow saggy you're on a roll tonight. They're screwing us over (yes "us" i own a PSP, never plan to buy a PS3) because just a month ago they stated the PSP wont require the PS3 to play PS1 games. Now if thats not screwing than i dunno what is."
Umm... i never saw a documented press release, or anything ont eh PSP site for that matter. Care to show me an exact quote from Sony (who is a corporation, not a single human). - pauleku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4wow that sucks. Glad i dont have a psp to bitch about this. Dont plan on getting a ps3 either.
- WickedDrag0oN, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Uhm duh... are you seriously thinking you would be able to legaly make ISOs of your games and play them on your PSP? DONT BE STUPID.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Did anyone read the actual link:
"To use the Memory Stick Duo™ media containing the PLAYSTATION®Network title on another PSP™ system, you must activate that PSP™ system. This operation is performed on the PS3™ system to which you downloaded the title. For details, see (Friends) > [PLAYSTATION®Network accounts] > [Checking / editing account information] of the PS3™ system software user's guide."
So basically it just means you can't pop out the mem stick and use it in another PSP - that doesn't mean you can't d/l games and put them on multiple PSPs. - AnotherBrian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Umm yes, if I have a PS1 game there is nothing wrong with playing this game on a PSP. This is well covered by fair use. However, the DMCA does make this illegal but the DMCA is wrong and I have no problem ignoring it.
plus what popfrogs said - triplehelix, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9because you can download old nintendo games and play them on your DS?
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not true. I remember the announcement. They said initially it WOULD require a PS3, that other methods would come later. So far, what they said seems to be accurate.
Marked as inaccurate. - Damion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Though I was looking forward to being able to Download and play some of the oldies from PS1 This doesn't disappoint me much.
An older PSP can do so much more then sony ever wanted. - triplehelix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4no i was being sarcastic about the original statement that he was glad he sold his psp because he couldn't download games, and got a DS which also can't download games.
- VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The PSP came out a long time ago, Sony was perceived as a much different company then.
- djdole, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@Nobi-Wan (and the others)
Ok. Get your facts straight people.
Because Blu-ray is a trademark of the Blu-ray Disc Association.
NOT OWNED PRIVATELY BY SONY.
Blue-ray is NOT Sony's proprietary format AT ALL.
FYI,
Blu-ray was JOINTLY developed by a consortium of MANY electronics and PC manufacturers.
Yes, this group (the Blu-ray Disc Association, or BDA) includes the Sony Corporation, but also includes companies MANY other companies. - shoeshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2***** that. They expect me to spend 600 bucks in order to play old games? ***** that.
- Xanadude, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Drive-by eggings, plaguing LA,
"Yo, they just got my little cousin, ese!" - tommybear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hold on just a sec. Wasn't there a story on digg that features this, except the response from Sony was that initially you would need the PS3 to get the PS1 games down, but they were working on a PSP version of the playstation store?
- idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@uroc
All because they pay license fees. - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think the difference is that downloading games would be the PSP's *only* redeeming feature.
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And it's also a misprint in the manual.
- cakestick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Haha.. Sell the PSP, get a DS.
- Phlag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For everyone who is saying that Sony only cares about money...that's really all any company cares about, and there's nothing wrong with that. Regardless, that doesn't mean that requiring a PS3 to take advantage of the PSP is a good idea. However, Sony may not even be doing that, as chriskzoo and hcl40u pointed out. So calm the ***** down.
- bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the goatse guy was a SONY fanboy.
- Riffz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Site is slow, but ultimately links to this:
http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/psp/current/index.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't help but be not surprised at this. I was really hoping they'd let us have this feature as a sort of online store thing, but they have to screw us yet again. I'm wondering if their next move will be to brick the PSPs that haven't been paired with PS3s until one breaks down and gets a PS3, then the PSP will work again. I wouldn't put it past them.
- ravedave, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4http://duggmirror.com
- DTAL, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Almost every company only cares about money and you can't judge a PS3 unless you own one.
- hadak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1makes me glad i sold my psp.
- a0me, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Except this is the LATEST manual and it's available ONLINE... Hard to make it more update than that.
