I always trust news from sources that feel the necessity to specify when a news item is not partially fictitious. By the way, "incase" is not a word. - TheCheeks, on 10/12/2007, -9/+30ill believe it when they're selling it.
- usefulidiot, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25the same kind of person who wastes their time commenting on digg?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+27Great. Thankgod I haven't sold my PSP yet, I was hoping this would happen soon. Finally can get my homebrew going without all the work you have to do with the latter versions.
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Of all the console hacking sites Max Console has got to be the most reliable and reputable. The're good guys over there and have the best info in their forums. I get all my RSS feeds from them.
- wren, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14You cannot record own UMDs but you can use memory stick duo pro
- zachgc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16"ITS RIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER!"
- topbravo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16I think we should have never had to get to this point... Sony should have left it open and just counterattack the isoloader programs!
- StarCrusher, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14The PSP is an good example of an excellent piece of hardware, destroyed by small-minded suits with dreams of glory through greed. If Sony had released a UMD burner for PCs/MACs, they could have sold millions of PSPs, even ones in a ridiculous bundle with drivel games. Sure, there would be a ton of porn on PSPs but it's there now. Most of the PSP owners I know have multiple sticks loaded with porn. But, given a way to record what YOU want and not what Sony thinks they can make and arm and a leg on, most of us would have tons of movies, games. TV shows, and PSPs would be spreading virally among all of our friends. Sony had a great chance to stamp out Video Ipods and blew it. With some forward thinking engineers in charge, we'd have 60Gb hard drive based PSPs everywhere and Apple would be left to pair up with shoemakers. Combine this with fiascos like the DRM rootkit and you have to wonder if anyone is driving over at Sony. It's hard to believe that this is the company that made so many pioneering advances in the 60s and 70s. Now with new PS3s coming in at the cost of a decent first car, I'm putting all of my money into Ninentendo.
- Omega697, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9What games?
Sony's best defense against people copying games is to keep up what they've been doing: don't make any games worth copying. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10maybe you should just take a permanant vacation from this site, jaschwan..............
- stuffhappens, on 10/12/2007, -11/+19Ruled illegal in many countries in 5..4..3..2..
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Installing a modchip in the PSP sounds really difficult but it's good to see the scene stay one step ahead of Sony.
- DoctorNo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Being that decent sized Memorysticks are dirt cheap now, running emulators will be fantastic (NES, SNES, Genesis, Turbographic, N64, MAME, etc) are all available and playable on PSP. Also Homebrew alows to run Divx/Xvid etc.
1GB are going for around $35 (Last week Officedepot had 1GB Lexar MS for $15AR)
http://techbargains.pricegrabber.com/search_attrib.php?page_id=152&form_keyword=1GB+Memory+Stick&rd=1
2GB for around $60
http://techbargains.pricegrabber.com/search_attrib.php?page_id=152&form_keyword=2GB+Memory+Stick&rd=1 - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16I have to say, this comment system sucks very, very much. It seriously needs some reworking.
- dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I should add, before I'm modded into oblivion, that I did own a PSP, and I was very dissatisfied with the software collection, game prices and overall stranglehold Sony has had (and repeatedly lost) over their humble system. I guess I'm just bitter because I bought a game system that had too many crappy games, and few games that were good, and heavily overpriced.
- eradicator, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13But will the chip let me play RIDGE RACER?
- ross., on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Thats funny my dictionary has "incase" in it.
- sourcemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9It was fine until the last couple of months at which point it seems that its popularity has attracted idiots. It's not just the younger diggers that should be blamed either.
- GoMe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And then people would be complaining that the fully featured 60GB PSP costs $600, just like the PS3 with all that expensive stuff inside.
- khaostheory, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think the installation work worth nothing compares to what you can do once you have it, of course they will give us detail of how to do it if they wanna sell it :)
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'm not so sure about how well this thing will work. It's pretty well known that all of the components in the PSP are packed in there really tightly, and putting something as huge as this mod chip in could either mess up the form factor or just make the thing look dumb.
And, there's no way this thing can be a silver bullet. Sure, it may help things out, but Sony will just keep making "improvements" just as soon as the hackers make theirs - 9tendo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I've modded ps1s, ps2s, xboxs, saturns, and my first 360 this sun. Now a PSP chip? The fun never stops!
- Spaz007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes they already have a Linux running on PSP.
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Sony could have marketed the PSP as a "mini computer" which can run tons of third party software. They would have made a killing on consumers' money. Instead, they do everything in their power to stop homebrew? I think someone was being stupid when they finalized the details of the PSP.
- JimmyDushku, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I can't wait for this. I wonder how difficult installation will be. Anyone know what all you have to remove to add this?
- Paintwiz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8( I hope this is a good comment) Is this the end result or is it still being worked on? It would be nice to add on some other stuff to it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4how is it gonna help you for games that are too big?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5come on man, iso loaders are the whole point. emulators are and all but they get boring after a while. I know its immoral but...
- joshuba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the psp could be fitted with a new case to accommodate the mod chip similar to how this works,
http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3723&lsaid=219793
but IMO this ruins the look of the psp. - bootleg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5This should be pretty sweet. I heard about this a long time ago, now it's almost reality.
- Spaz007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have a 1.5 FW PSP and homebrew is has more going for it then the games Sony has. But being able to install 2.7 and still play homebrew is well worth the time and work.
- Crazy_8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"psp is for bitches"
I woulden't really call that an opinion. More like a insult. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5how the hell does that fit into the UMD slot? I really don't think you know what you're talking about. If you put the chip into the UMD slot, it would do nothing, seeing that the UMDs don't connect with the firmware in a physical way.
- howser2007, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Whew, about time! Can't wait for this to come out!
- CaptainWow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2UMD has it's obvious cons but I thought the resolution was really good. The mp3 functionality is decent but I wish it had a few more options. Watching movies off a memory stick isn't bad either, I just wish it didn't take so long to encode them.
I'm pretty happy with the PSP. It's a decent system but could definitely use some tweaking. - Seidoger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Woa burrying party going on here!
The only consoles i had modded where the ones i could easily burn media to (ie CD-ROM or DVD-ROM). Although i agree i didnt RTFA, it's stil cool hehe! - TBob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Heh. The funny part about this is half of the comments are buried.
- Cameljock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn, what sux is that it wont really give that much added functionality besides bypassing the firmware. Even more so, this will cause more problems for PSP owners who'll panic as soon as the PSP starts acting funny after they install them incorrectly or because of incompatibility. You guys were right by saying that Sony messed up, and that they should have been more popular than iPods by now. Maybe the next generation of PSPs will get back up to the same standards that Apple would expect from their next generation of iPods?
- ps2koder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I follow maxconsole daily, and so far, if something is fake, they say it's fake, and only post something as "real news" once they themselves have confirmed it.
There are 5 or 6 sites already showing it on their website, and one site has it for pre-order directly.
www.MrModchips.com - pre-orders, but no price
www.ps2cover.com - pre-orders, with price and $5.00 rebate from the retail price
www.discoazul.co - looks like they will have it for pre-order too. - oringo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Dude you have no imaginations. It fits neatly in the UMD drive! Of course you won't be able to use the UMD drive, but those who get the mod chip most likely won't be using the UMD drive any way...
- johnny23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I would assume that Sony keeps the PSP closed because they don't make much money on the hardware...they make money on the software running on it. If they opened up to the modding community it would take a huge bite out of potential software sales.
- themacx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3fellas I'm gonna have such a laugh reading your comment after PS3 arrived and you all will NOT be able to use your psp with it. Lovely... please do mod fools.. please do, just for my pleasure...
- Spaz007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is a PSP version of RR and the PSX version is going to be downloadable on Sonys PSP site.
- Spaz007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2LOL not a surprising answer.
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4^^ this now includes Lumines and GTA: LCS
- Spaz007, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3OK DS FANBOY
- djboogie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0you guys know of maxconsole and dont know how to run 2.71 firmware psp games, from a 1.50?
either from mem stick or UMD?
try doing a search for devhook
(firmware emulator)
can run all the psp games out there, no problem, on a 1.50 psp - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Wow, you guys are idiots. I said I own a PSP and I get modded down. I have to say I also own a DS and I like a ton better.
Stop the fanboyism. Jesus christ it's annoying how stupid the internet bandwagon can get. - jaschwan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3OK STUPID *****

What is Digg?
